Finalement, il a supervisé la capitulation totale de l'Allemagne le 8 mai 1945, mettant fin à la Seconde Guerre mondiale en Europe.Procès et CondamnationAprès la guerre, Dönitz a été arrêté et jugé lors des procès de Nuremberg. Il a été accusé de crimes de guerre et de crimes contre la paix. Dönitz a été condamné à 10 ans de prison, qu'il a purgés à la prison de Spandau.
