On My Way To Home”, A Story of Light - The Dawn, Stellar Transitions, 2020.Romain FX, “結合 Ben Luke talks to Marguerite Humeau about her influences—from writers to film-makers, musicians and, of course, other artists—and the cultural experiences that have shaped her life and work.Humeau was born in 1986 in the French city of Cholet, near Nantes, and lives in London. She creates extraordinary sculptural environments in which the scientific and the speculative are fused. She acknowledges the perilous present state of the planet and the future of humanity while exploring histories of life on earth across millennia, drawing on mainstream and fringe scientific theory, science fiction and various cultural phenomena, to create dramatic tableaux that are hugely distinctive in their visual language and subject matter. She asks fundamental questions about the world we inhabit and the meaning of human existence. She discusses her early love of the painting of Marlene Dumas, her awe at the work of Pierre Huyghe and how Nina Simone is an ongoing role model. She also reflects on her fascination with Leonora Carrington and the musicians Angel Bat Dawid and Bendik Giske. Plus, she gives insight into her studio life and answers our usual questions, including the ultimate: “What is art for?”Marguerite Humeau: meys, White Cube Bermondsey, London, until 14 May; Orisons, Black Cube, San Luis Valley, Colorado, 24 June-June 2025. Ben Luke talks to Pierre Huyghe about his influences—including writers, musicians and, of course, other artists—and the cultural experiences that have shaped his life and work. Huyghe was born in 1962 in Paris and today lives and works between Santiago in Chile and New York. He has experimented over more than 30 years with the form of exhibitions and the very nature of art. His works are complex systems involving a host of elements, from lifeforms including plants, animals and microorganisms, to inanimate objects and technologies. He pays particular attention to the spaces in which these disparate factors come together and bleed into each other, leading to constantly evolving, strange and often spellbinding experiences. He discusses his early interest in the “multiplicity of things” in Yves Tanguy and Hieronymus Bosch; his admiration for artists today, including Daniel Buren and three previous guests on A brush with…, Mark Leckey, Philippe Parreno and Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster; his response to the musical works of John Cage; and his 1990s projects exploring the cinema of Pasolini and Hitchcock, among others. Plus, he gives insights into his daily studio life and answers the ultimate question: what is art for?Pierre Huyghe's permanent work Variants is at Kistefos, Jevnaker, Norway. The Fault In Our Stars, starring Shailene Woodley, is the screen adaptation of John Green's best selling young adult novel of the same name about a pair of love struck teenagers both of whom are terminally ill with cancer. Brought together at a cancer support group the pair embark on a pilgrimage to Holland to meet the author of a book on dying. Green himself was a hospital chaplain and the story is based on an actual encounter with a dying 16 year old girl. Following on from the huge success of The Cuckoo's Calling a second novel from Robert Galbraith - aka JK Rowling. Featuring private investigator Cormoran Strike it merges an old fashioned detective story with Jacobean tragedy, whilst providing insight into literary London, a grisly murder and a page turning plot. Comedian and actor David Schneider's new play Making Stalin Laugh - at the JW3 Community Centre in London - tells the story of the Moscow State Yiddish Theatre which in the 1920s was one of the most respected in the world. Chagall designed for them, Prokofiev, Stanislavski and Eugene O'Neill all saluted them. By 1952 the surviving members of the troupe had all been purged - executed by Stalin on the same day in August. Making Stalin Laugh tells their story, with at its centre the most celebrated Yiddish actor of his generation, Solomon Mikhoels. Making Colour at London's National Gallery is the first ever exhibition of its kind in the UK and was developed from the National Gallery's own internationally recognised Scientific Department's work into how artists historically overcame the technical challenges in creating colour. As well as paintings it includes objects such as early textiles, mineral samples and ceramics and shows the huge impact the development of synthetic paint had on major art movements such as Impressionism. And The Human Factor: The Figure in Contemporary Sculpture brings together major works by 25 leading international artists who have fashioned new ways of using the human form in sculpture over the past 25 years. Featuring work from Jeff Koons, Mark Wallinger and Yinka Shonibare, exhibits include two re-imaginings of Edgar Degas's famous Little Dancer Aged Fourteen and in a work by French artist Pierre Huyghe a live beehive adorns a cast in concrete of a beautiful reclining nude woman.

Extracts from a conversation between the French artist Pierre Huyghe (born 1962) and Curators Richard Julin and Tessa Praun. The experience of seeing Pierre Huyghe’s work Untilled at Documenta 13 in 2012, has been the key source of inspiration in the making of the exhibition On the Tip of My Tongue. In this conversation, amongst many things, Pierre Huyghe and the curators talk about cutting out the spectator and reflect on the implications that this idea may have on exhibition making. Pierre Huyghe’s work, which includes film, installation and public interventions, often take the form of constructed systems that are as unscripted as living organisms. Through his work, Huyghe is able to conjure up quite otherworldly realms in which his artworks appear freed from the constraints of accepted reality.
