Everyone wanted to talk about the laptop.Jonathan Tamayo wanted to talk about mahjong.Because before the 2024 WSOP Main Event title, the $10,000,000 score, and the most debated rail in poker, Tamayo was a kid in Houston playing games with his grandparents, getting bankroll money from his grandpa, trying to figure out PartyPoker, and learning the hard way like everyone else.He had the early online poker growing pains, the college poker games, the PartyPoker bad beat jackpot, the Sunday Million score, the first WSOP summer, the 2009 Main Event heartbreak, Black Friday, daily fantasy, backing, a cash game stable, and years of being very good without quite becoming that guy. Then 2024 happened. And somehow the guy who had already been deep in the Main Event before found himself back in the exact spot every poker player dreams about.Only this time, he won the whole thing. In this episode of The Table 1 Podcast, Jonathan Tamayo joins Art Parmann and Justin Young to tell the full story.Topics include: ♠️ Growing up in Houston with NASA parents and mahjong games ♥️ Grandpa casually funding the early gambling years ♦️ PartyPoker, online mistakes, and the bad beat jackpot ♣️ His first WSOP summer and $1,500 runner-up finish ♠️ The wildest $1/$3 game at the Rio ♥️ The 2009 Main Event run and Billy Kopp hand ♦️ Black Friday and falling behind the European solver wave ♣️ Daily fantasy swings, including a $900K football sweat ♠️ The 2015 Main Event and Joe McKeehen rail ♥️ Building a cash game stable ♦️ The 2024 Main Event run ♣️ LaptopGate, final table prep, and what actually happened ♠️ The heads-up live tell that helped swing the match ♥️ Winning the Main Event and what changes after $10M We also get into why the Main Event still matters, the truth about final table preparation, what people misunderstood about the rail, how poker strategy has changed, why the player pool is aging, and what poker's future problem might really be.This one is part origin story, part Main Event breakdown, and part answer to the controversy everyone had an opinion on.What's your honest take on final table rails using laptops?Timestamps 00:00 — Intro + 2024 Main Event Champ 01:43 — Houston Roots, Mahjong & NASA Parents 05:22 — Humble High School + Lazy-Good Student Life 07:56 — Cornell, Hotel School & Golf 11:02 — First Poker Games in High School 15:18 — Grandpa Bankrolls the Gambling 18:02 — PartyPoker, Western Union & Online Growing Pains 19:15 — The PartyPoker Bad Beat Jackpot 21:39 — Sunday Million Score + Bad 2008 Job Market 23:19 — First WSOP Summer + $1,500 Runner-Up Finish 25:00 — The Wildest $1/$3 Game at the Rio 34:08 — Turning Stone, Brian Hastings & Cornell Private Games 36:21 — 2009 Main Event Run Begins 38:16 — Day 3 Heater + Jenga Chip Explosion 42:44 — Billy Kopp Hand + 21st Place Finish 45:20 — Backing, Supernova Elite & Old-School 10Ks 50:30 — Black Friday + Falling Behind the Europeans 52:23 — Daily Fantasy Grind + DraftKings Hockey Championship 58:23 — The $900K Fantasy Football Sweat 59:13 — 2015 Main Event Run + Joe McKeehen's Year 1:02:23 — McKeehen Final Table Rail + Early “Laptop” System 1:04:54 — Cash Game Stable + Long-Term Backing Setup 1:06:58 — 2024 Main Event Begins 1:09:47 — Day 2 Heater + First All-In Risk 1:10:21 — “The Hand” That Changed Everything 1:12:09 — Day 5–8 Main Event Grind 1:13:29 — Final 18 + Dom Starts Coaching From the Rail 1:16:35 — From 15 of 18 to the Final Table 1:18:06 — 10 Left + The Queens Fold 1:23:25 — LaptopGate + Final Table Prep 1:29:02 — Heads-Up Live Tell Breakthrough 1:33:00 — Winning the Main Event 1:35:37 — What's Next + Staying in His Lane 1:37:53 — What He Did With the Money 1:38:30 — Poker's Future Problem Jonathan's Links X: https://x.com/driverseati Instagram: https://instagram.com/driverseati Table 1 Links Play with us in Vegas: https://table1.vegas

This is the thing in my mind, that dream and goal that's kept me going. Once I put that into perspective, it was a lot easier to ride that wave of momentum into Worlds.”Our guest today is Angelina Napoleon — the 20-year-old NC State steeplechaser who just capped off a super impressive and long outdoor track season. In Tokyo, Angelina made her World Championships debut, ran 9:18 in the heats to advance, and then came back with a 9:17 in the final to finish ninth overall — and as the top American in the women's steeplechase. That finish crowns a year where she lowered her PB from the 9:50s all the way down to 9:10, finished third at NCAAs, and proved she belongs on the global stage. What stands out about Angelina isn't just the times, it's her perspective: she left Tokyo proud, grateful, and already hungry for more. She talked about staying calm in the chaos, adapting to challenges, and soaking up the love from her family and friends as she raced halfway across the world. Now, as she heads back to grass and cross country season, we're hoping this makes you a fan of her going forward.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Angelina Napoleon | @angelinanapoleon on InstagramProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr on Instagram____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSASICS: The Megablast is the Mega Man of the Blast lineup. In this episode of Trail Society, join hosts Keely and Corrine as they dive into an inspiring conversation with Hannah Allgood, who secured second place at her first 100-mile race, Javalina Jundred. Hannah shares insights into her season, which included so many different races like the Chuckanut 50k, Gorge 30k, Transvulcania, and Istria 101k, detailing her preparation and the strategic choices behind each race. She discusses her journey leading up to Javelina, emphasizing the importance of running her own race, maintaining mental resilience, and her fueling plan—complete with the decision to shove gels into her bra to keep them cool. Finally, we touch on her coaching and work as a PT and how she combines them to develop trail-running specific strength programs for her athletes. Additionally, Keely and Corrine explore a new study on NCAA D1 cross country athletes, highlighting concerns about body weight, energy balance, and the often-overlooked experiences of male athletes. Lucy Gossage has been around on the long distance triathlon scene for a long time, and she's instantly recognisable with her blue Erdinger kit and infectious smile. If you don't know Lucy, she has 14 Ironman victories to her name including IMUK, IM Wales, IM Lanzarote and Patagonman (basically all the toughest ones). In 2019 she stepped back from IM racing to focus more on her work as an Oncologist in Nottingham. You'll get a sense of how Lucy likes to challenge herself with that race resume, and today's conversation is all about another of those challenges. And they don't really come much bigger than The Winter Spine Challenge - 268 miles on the Pennine Way in the depths of winter.   It's a non-stop event requiring participants to be self sufficient. The temperature barely gets above 0ºC, with knee deep snow and blizzards at times, and as if that's not enough the sleep deprivation can literally be a nightmare. We chat about:   Weekly power strength yoga - "I just knew that I had to get as strong as I could"   The benefits of commuting to work and keeping it fun Walking poles in ultra racing - "As soon as I got them, I was like, oh my god, these are a game changer." Sleep walking - "The most terrifying discombobulating experience I've ever had." Shoe selection - "I went with Hoka Speedgoats, which many say is crazy for that terrain. But they were so comfortable." Sleep deprivation and cognitive function - "I could see the red lines on my Garmin where I'd gone off the course and I was like bloody hell I am actually sleepwalking."   To find out more about Lucy please use these channels: Twitter @lucygoss Insta @lucygossage     Link to topics we covered in the show NHS Blog posts Lucy and I talked for quite a bit at the start about the NHS and she mentioned some blog posts she had written. A month later he ran a fantastic race to finish second at the USATF Indoor Championships over 3,000 meters, earning a spot on Team USA at the World Indoor Championships. At Worlds, he ran valiantly over the final two laps…eventually finishing in fifth place. Olin ran for the University of Wisconsin, where he earned an undergraduate degree in biology and a graduate degree in kinesiology while achieving notable personal bests in the mile (3:56.66), 3,000 meters (7:45.73), and 5,000 meters (13:19.34). His crowning achievement came in his senior year with a dramatic victory in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Championships. In 2022, he turned professional and joined HOKA NAZ Elite.  In today's conversation, Olin takes me through his past few months of running and racing, his takes on Nico Young, Jakob vs. Josh, why college kids are running so fast, his plans for the outdoor season, and much more! Today I sit down with my friend Monte Taylor! Monte and I met about a year ago in Austin TX at a fitness coaching mastermind. Funny enough we actually ended up rooming together last minute as we headed to the mastermind and ended up hitting it off over the weekend and kept in contact since!A couple months after the mastermind Monte starred on CBS' Big Brother Season 24 and took home 2nd place! This was a huge achievement considering a couple years ago Monty was working at a corporate job as a mechanical engineer not really sure where he was going to take his career next. As he was trying to figure out if he wanted to stay in the corporate space, the world changed....COIVD hit!Because of this Monte was forced to work from home in a sales capacity and was feeling unfulfilled. This is when his fitness journey began.Monte would go to put on about 20lbs of weight and as a result he was approached by others in the gym and took on a side job as a personal trainer for a little bit before transitioning fully into the fitness industry. Monte credits a lot of his growth in and outside of the gym with how much work he's put in Mindset Wise! Monte uses what he's learned through books, coaches and mentors to help his own clients believe they can achieve their fitness goals as well. He speaks about the importance of gratitude, habits, affirmations, and breath work to help keep him grounded when emotions pop up and get a little bit too overwhelming. This was especially important when he was on Big Brother and the house started to get empty towards the end! Monte has a podcast himself on the way to be on the lookout for! If you want to connect with Monte or apply for coaching with him you can follow him @taylord_fit _ And if you want to apply for coaching with Monte you can hit this link!
