As California looks forward (!) to the beginning of a new Presidential Administration, there is growing trepidation about what it might mean for the state. Is it time to secede and join with other West Coast states to create a new country? Fifty years ago, Ernest Callenbach published Ecotopia, a vision of a new country dedicated to protecting people and the environment. In 2015, on the 40th anniversary of Ecotopia, UCSC held a conference called “Utopian Dreaming: 50 years of imagined futures in California and at UCSC.” Speakers included a number of academics, critics and dreamers. None of us, of course, imagined that Donald Trump might be the next President of the United States. Listen to three talks from the conference: a keynote by Kim Stanley Robinson, best-known today for The Ministry of the Future; a critique by UC San Diego Professor of Latin American Literature and Chicano Literature Rosaura Sanchez; and an account of how Silicon Valley has become the generator of utopian and dystopian futures, by Fred Turner, Harry and Norman Chandler Professor of Communication at Stanford University. You can find videos of the complete conference at https://www.youtube.com/@ronnielipschutz8900. Million Kids has been combating human trafficking here in the Inland Empire and across the nation for nearly 15 years. We have seen many changes as pimps, predators, and pedophiles use technology and sophisticated grooming and recruiting tactics to access, groom, seduce and recruit our children. However, much of this has changed over the past four years as our nation's leadership has encouraged open borders. The result has been the migration of literally millions of individuals from all over the world. Many are fine individuals who are looking for a better life. Some are criminals and coyotes who prey on those individuals as well as holding their families back home hostage to blackmail/ransom payments. Some are criminals and gang members who are part of organized crime. No one knows for sure what the future will bring. We do know that when a country or a state overlooks the rule of law, criminals will see that as a major opportunity to exploit innocent individuals. The challenge will be separating the victims from the perpetrators and being able to support the needs of the victims. The Million Kids team remains committed to helping victims of trafficking and do what we can to keep kids safe from predators. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/million-kids/support

Today we had the pleasure of hosting the team from Cornerstone Government Affairs for an engaging discussion on energy policy and the upcoming US Presidential Election with Jack Belcher, Principal, John Sandell, Principal, and Sarah Venuto, Principal and Counsel. Cornerstone is an independent bipartisan consulting firm specializing in federal and state government relations, public affairs, political and grant consulting, and business advisory services. Jack, John and Sarah are seasoned experts in navigating the complexities of Washington DC. Jack has over 30 years of experience in energy and energy policy and previously held roles as Manager of Regulatory Affairs and Policy at Shell and Staff Director for the US House Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources. John is an expert in tax policy and formerly served the members of the US House Committee on Ways and Means. Sarah previously served as Director of the Office of External Affairs at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Senior Advisor and Chief Counsel to Senator Joe Manchin, and Democratic Staff Director for the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. We were thrilled to connect with the Cornerstone team to explore this timely and important topic. Our conversation centered on a report Cornerstone published entitled “A Guide to Forecasting Energy Policy In The Next White House: Trump V. Harris” (linked here). Jack first provides background on Cornerstone's history and growth into the largest independent government relations firm in DC. We touch on the implications of the Chevron Deference case on regulatory agencies, its significance for future energy policy and regulation, and how it will impact Congress and the need for additional technical expertise there. We cover the complexities of Presidential Administration changes and challenges of transitioning political appointments, the future of the Inflation Reduction Act under different administrations, and efforts to streamline permitting and infrastructure development. Jack, John and Sarah offer their insights on how a Trump or Harris administration might approach energy policy and rising energy prices for businesses and consumers. We discuss areas of bipartisan support including nuclear energy, tariffs, alternative fuels, and competition with China, how the next administration might balance state-level initiatives with national policy, the upcoming 2025 Tax Debate led by the Ways and Means Committee, and much more. It was an insightful discussion and we want to thank Jack, John and Sarah for sharing their perspectives and time with us on a busy day in DC. Mike Bradley opened the conversation by highlighting that broader equity markets were down Tuesday driven by JPMorgan Chase's cautious comments. In the bond market, the 10-year U.S. bond yield traded at ~3.65, down 20-30bps in recent weeks. The U.S. 2yr/10yr yield bond spread flipped back to positive after two years of inversion, this type of flip after a lengthy period of backwardation tends to precede recessions. He noted the importance of this week's economic reports with August CPI & PPI and Initial Jobless Claims reporting over the next couple of days. On crude oil, he also shared a chart of the WTI crude oil curve and noted that the curve structure had flattened out through 2035, primarily due to concerns over global/China oil demand after being in steep backwardation over the prior 3mo, 6mo & 12mo periods. He concluded by mentioning that crude oil prices were technically oversold, with traders remaining bearish but waiting for significant changes in global oil demand to unwind net short bets. Jeff Tillery built on Mike's comments and noted the demand concerns and OPEC's spare capacity reducing upside optionality for long-term investors. Brett Rampal highlighted a significant

The presidential election is in November, of course, but conservative advocacy groups and think tanks are already preparing to transition to a new administration. That's if a Republican wins. It's called Project 2025 and is being led by the Heritage Foundation. Project 2025 offers a potential conservative president a blueprint for reforming administrative agencies and it recruits, trains, and suggests conservatives to serve in a new administration. GlossaryEuromaidan and the Revolution of Dignity(05:36 or p.2 in the transcript)On November 21, 2013, one and a half thousand people rallied through social networks. They took to the Independence Square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti) to express their protest against pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych's refusal to sign the association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union. At the same time, people in different cities of Ukraine gathered every day and organized events in support of European integration. On the night of November 29-30, about 400 activists, mostly students, remained on the streets of Kyiv. Armed fighters of the former police unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine called “Berkut” forced people out of the square. They used explosive packages, beating people with batons and stomping them with their feet. Hundreds of thousands of people gathered in the center of Kyiv on December 1, 2013, to protest the forceful dispersal of peaceful protesters. Due to the European integration slogans, the events were called Euromaidan. This turned into a struggle for the renewal of the state system, the defense of democratic ideas, and the refusal to submit to the pro-Russian regime. The struggle became known as the Revolution of Dignity. Protesters occupied the building of the Kyiv City State Administration (KMDA) and the House of Trade Unions, where the Headquarters of the National Resistance were located. Independence Square and nearby streets were filled with protesters. Euromaidan activists began to set up tent cities, surrounded by barricades and several roadblocks. On December 8, 2013, the “March of Millions” took place in Kyiv, a public event with over a million participants. Activists decided to block the Presidential Administration and Government buildings. On the night of December 10-11, “Berkut” and units of internal forces launched an assault to disperse peaceful protesters. The impetus for the escalation of the confrontation was the adoption of “dictatorship laws” by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on January 16, 2014. They limited the rights of citizens and expanded the powers of special officers to punish participants in protest actions. On January 19, Euromaidan started a move to prepare an open-ended picket of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The march met with units of internal troops and special units of “Berkut” on Hrushevsky Street — clashes began that lasted all night. Armed security forces used stun grenades and rubber bullets, as well as a water cannon, against the demonstrators. Euromaidan activists wore construction helmets, and they threw cobblestones and Molotov cocktails at the police. On January 22, 2014, another illegal decision was made to extend the powers of the security forces that acted against Euromaidan participants. They were allowed to use light noise and smoke grenades delivered from the Russian Federation. On this day, for the first time during the Revolution of Dignity, two activists – Armenian Serhii Nigoyan and Belarusian Mykhailo Zhiznevskyi – died from gunshot wounds on Hrushevsky Street in Kyiv. Hundreds were injured by rubber bullets, debris, and chemical burns. At the end of January, the uprising spread to other regions of Ukraine. Protesters occupied administrative buildings, and they removed pro-Russian heads of state administrations from their positions. On February 18, 2014, activists marched to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, where deputies were supposed to consider changes to the Constitution of Ukraine. Activists called on the parliament to return the Constitution of 2004, according to which the political system of Ukraine was supposed to become parliamentary-presidential again, which reduced the possibilities for usurpation of power. The peaceful offensive turned into mass clashes between the Euromaidan and security forces. The Berkut police special unit dispersed the demonstrators on the approaches to the parliament and began an assault on the Maidan. On this day, more than 20 Euromaidans were killed with firearms. The events of February 20, 2014, on Instytutska Street in Kyiv entered the modern history of Ukraine as “Bloody Thursday”. On this day, snipers killed 48 Euromaidans. On the same day in 2014, Russia began the occupation of Crimea, and in the spring they invaded Eastern Ukraine. Eight years later, in 2022, the Russian Federation launched a full-scale invasion. source
Today we wanted to share an episode from a little while back. We believe that it provides immense value and there are some new listeners, so we wanted to re-post it. On today's episode, Dennis speaks with former Force Recon Marine, DoD Contractor with eight deployments to Afghanistan, Author and Founder of Mighty Oaks Foundation, Chad Robichaux. Chad is a former Force Recon Marine and DoD Contractor with eight deployments to Afghanistan as part of a Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) Task Force. After overcoming his personal battles with PTSd and nearly becoming a veteran suicide statistic, Chad founded the Mighty Oaks Foundation, a leading non-profit, serving the active duty, military veteran and first responder communities around the world with highly successful faith-based combat trauma and resiliency programs. Having spoken to over 400,000 active-duty troops and led life-saving programs for over 4,500 active military and veterans at four Mighty Oaks Ranches around the Nation, Chad has become a go-to resource and is considered a subject matter expert on faith-based solutions to PTSd, having advised the former Presidential Administration, Congress, the VA, the DoD, and was appointed to serve as the Chairman of a White House Veterans Coalition. Chad is also the Co-Founder of Save Our Allies, a non-profit that's mission is focused on the evacuation and recovery of Americans, our allies and vulnerable people trapped in Afghanistan. Save Our Allies began as a personal quest for Chad, as he set out to rescue his long-time friend and Afghanistan interpreter, but the mission quickly evolved because of Chad's compassion for people and his servant heart. Since its inception, Save Our Allies has safely evacuated over 17,000 people that were trapped in Afghanistan and is now helping in Ukraine. This week, Clay Jenkinson's conversation with guest host David Horton about three remarkable moments in American history between administrations. First, the tragedy of Meriwether Lewis, who got caught between the outgoing administration of his mentor Thomas Jefferson and the incoming administration of President James Madison, who was no admirer of Lewis. This gap contributed to the nervous collapse of Lewis and probably his suicide in 1809. Then the burden that fell on the shoulders of Vice President Harry S. Truman in April 1945 when FDR died at Warm Springs and Truman learned about the existence of the atomic bomb and the Manhattan Project for the first time that day. And finally, the assassination of John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963, and Vice President Lyndon Johnson's attempts to fulfill JFK's agenda on Vietnam, civil rights, and the space program.

Having spoken to over 400,000 active-duty troops and led life-saving programs for over 4,500 active military and veterans at four Mighty Oaks Ranches around the Nation, Chad has become a go-to resource and is considered a subject matter expert on faith-based solutions to PTSd, having advised the former Presidential Administration, Congress, the VA, the DoD, and was appointed to serve as the Chairman of a White House Veterans Coalition. ew leadership is needed in America, says Spencer Chretien, associate director of the 2025 Presidential Transition Project, also known as Project 2025."We see every day the effects of the current administration, whether it's the open southern border, rampant inflation, a woke and weaponized government, foreign policy disaster," he says. "And we need new leadership in this country.""And so, while that is true, it's also important that we get ready for what happens after Jan. 20, 2025, when the new president takes office," Chretien says, adding:So, Project 2025 is now more than 70 conservative organizations. It's organized here at Heritage, but it includes really a 'who's who' of the conservative movement. We have groups involved that are more establishment-friendly, more populist-friendly, more libertarian, social conservative.Chretien joins today's episode of "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss how presidential candidates have been responding to the project, what the administrative state is and what dismantling it would look like, and his response to criticism of the project.Enjoy the show! Hello & Welcome to the Imagine Belonging at Work Podcast brought to you by Rhodes Perry Consulting…I'm your host, Rhodes Perry. Since the start of the Pandemic, anti-Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) hate has surged at an unprecedented rate in the U.S. The previous Presidential Administration's racist and divisive language linked COVID-19 to AAPI communities, further exacerbating this surge. DEI leaders like us play a critical role in raising awareness and taking workplace specific actions to support our AAPI colleagues. Yet, 3 years into the pandemic, far too many workplaces still remain silent. Today, we will explore meaningful actions that we can take using our relative power privilege, along with actions our peers can take, to support our AAPI colleagues. As you listen to this episode, I invite you to take a look back over the past 12 months and ask yourselves the following questions: What can I do to learn more about anti-AAPI hate, bias, and discrimination – particularly with how it shows up at work? How can I unlearn misconceptions and biases I may have about AAPI people and communities? "How can I support AAPI communities near me? Donations? Pro bono work? Attending community events?...in other words, what's available to me? And lastly, "What will I do if I witness an act of hate, bias, or discrimination in my workplace, my community, or my family? Seeking answers to these questions is an action you are uniquely situated to take – you are uniquely positioned to take this action even if it feels clumsy, imperfect, or incomplete. As you work to answer these questions, engaging in trusted conversations with those you have proximity to are perhaps some of the best ways to show up and support AAPI people right now. To build up your knowledge, skills, and confidence, I am honored to share this conversation the Belonging Membership Community had with Lillian Tsai last May. If you're not familiar with Lillian's work, here's a bit about her impressive background: Lillian was born and raised in Malaysian Borneo to a former Davis Cup tennis player and a superintendent of Chinese schools. She is an award-winning consultant, facilitator, trainer, coach, and keynote speaker on cross-cultural fluency, intercultural communications, and diversity, equity and inclusion. She works with C level executives, DEI committees, conducts organizational assessments, team interventions, and specializes in coaching women, people of color, and leaders of diverse teams. Prior to starting her own company, TsaiComms LLC, in 2002, she spent 25 years in global high-tech marketing and communications which culminated in an expatriate assignment in Germany. As some of you know, Lillian is a friend of our Belonging Membership Community and is a seasoned DEI thought leader. Savor this insightful talk, and if you're looking for ways to connect with inspiring leaders like Lillian, be sure to join the Belonging Membership Community – a community of leaders committed to advancing their DEI goals while practicing community care. Members have the unique opportunity to engage with our guests 1:1 after our podcast recordings where they can participate in a private Q&A session with our guest. To learn more about the Belonging Membership Community, please visit: www.belongingmembershipcommunity.com Everyday actions offered to the Belonging at Work Community: 1. Inform yourself about what anti-AAPI hatred is & why it is occurring. 2. Share safety tips to support your AAPI colleagues. 3. Issue a workplace statement denouncing anti-AAPI racism. 4. Support AAPI-owned businesses through supplier diversity efforts. 5. Donate to help respond to the surge in AAPI racism & xenophobia Now, let's jump into the conversation!

Two-thirds of those deaths are tied to fentanyl, but the federal government has been slow to recognize the rise of the highly-potent drug.
