I had an upbeat conversation with the native of New York City, Ryan Lane. Ryan Lane is a singer, songwriter, and dancer. He is one of the most inspiring and empowering people I have met. He is very passionate and loves what he does when it comes to entertainment. Ryan loves to give back to people. Ryan Lane is inspired by numerous styles of music. Ryan Lane hoped that one day, he'd share more of his talents with the world. As a pre-teen, starting his professional music career as a member of the Harlem Boys Choir, he began to develop his own style of vocal range and had the opportunity to travel the world sharing the stage with the likes of Stevie Wonder and The Backstreet Boys, just to name a few. Ryan has had many incredible performances throughout the years, from sharing the VMA Stage with Wyclef Jean and Queen Latifah, television appearances with reggae icon Shaggy and legendary superstar Sting, singing the National Anthem at Met-Life Stadium for an audience of 60,000 people at the Jets Game as well as choreographing for inner city kids from New York City and working with award winning producers, Lady And A Tramp ( Pink, Babyface, Disney, NKOTB) and KayGee Of Naughty By Nature ( Janet Jackson, Aaliyah, Jaheim, Notorious B.I.G, Zhane) plus, having music featured on the BET Christmas film "Hip Hop Holiday." Ryan has been working closely with KayGee and Lady And A Tramp writing and vocal producing for various artists. Ryan is currently just coming off a tour with NKOTB for the MixTape Tour with IlltownSluggaz (label owned by Kay Gee and Vinnie from Naughty By Nature). They opened the show as a dj set along with a few performances, including their summer single "FIESTA." Illtown Sluggaz - Fiesta ft. Ryan Lane [Official Video] - YouTube During the start of the pandemic, Ryan not only released his single “FOREVER”, he filmed the music video for it in the empty streets of NYC. Not knowing what the future held, Ryan stayed true to who he is, writing, recording, and still dancing, all while being stuck in the house. Little did he know at the time that in 2022, he would then hit the Road for 56 dates with Illtown Sluggaz on the MixTape Tour with NKOTB, Rick Astley, En Vogue and Salt N Pepa. Since then Ryan has released his version of Phil Collin's “Against All Odds”, in November 2022, “The Right Song” with Illtown Sluggaz and is getting set to release “MIND” on March 21st. His music can be heard on Dj Coco Chanel Radio Show “The Block” 94.7 NYC as well as Miss Jonesy in the Morning. Ryans single FOREVER was released, and the video shot smack in the middle of the pandemic. Illtown Sluggaz x Ryan Lane - Forever [Official Video] - YouTube Ryan is currently working on new music with numerous artists, movies, and television shows. 2023 is looking bright for this talent. There is no stopping Ryan. He is on his way to becoming a household name. If you would like to follow Ryan Lane on his social media, go to IamRyanLane. In this week's episode I'm joined by Kenton Hall as we listen to songs from his former band - ist - and his solo project Kenton Hall & The Necessary Measures. We talk about the highs and lows of being a touring musician, filmmaker and human being. We explore songwriting; processing grief; bipolar; hitting rock bottom and finding a way through. Oh, and how the right song can save someone's life one night - so it's worth putting the effort in. Art matters. Now living and working without the highs, Kenton challenges the myth of the necessarily tormented creative genius and talks about how he's finding a sense of balance.Songs featured in this episode:The Boy's Not Right: https://istianity.bandcamp.com/track/the-boys-not-rightFom Toothpick Bridge, by istKenton Hall John McCourt Brett Richardson Flash Produced and Engineered by Jay Burnett ****Apologia: https://istianity.bandcamp.com/track/apologiaFrom King Martha, by istKenton Hall - Guitars, Keyboards, Vocals John McCourt - Bass, Vocals Flash - Drums, Vocals Brett Richardson - Bassoon, Conductor, String Arrangements, Vocals Jack Bomb - Guitar, Vocals Paul Swannell - Piano, Organ Kevin Hewick - Vocals Gaz Birtles - Sax John Barrow - Sax Drew Stansall - Sax Jon Read - Trumpet James Lindsay - Trombone Anna Jordan - Piano, Organ The Filthmongers' Choir - Vocals Na'im Cortazzi - Vocals Liam Dullaghan - Guitar, Vocals Sophia Marshall - Vocals Sarah Louise Collins - Clarinet Jody Moore - French Horn Strung Out Sisters - String Trio Howard Smith - Lap Steel***Careful How You Go: https://kentonhallthenecessarymeasures.bandcamp.com/track/careful-how-you-goBy Kenton Hall & The Necessary MeasuresKenton Hall - Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Glockenspiel, Percussion, Digital ErhuScarlet Hall - Backing Vocals John McCourt - Bass Brett Richardson - Guitars, Production, Kenton-fixing Alan Jenkins - Organ, Backing Vocals Chris Ilett - Late night advice and additional vocal arrangementsSong produced by Brett Richardson and Kenton Hall Hear more from Kenton Hall:Twitter: https://twitter.com/kentonhallFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/kentonhallauthor Blog: https://kentonhall.wordpress.com Bisection - A more or less accurate account of bipolar parenting and twin wrangling: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bisection-accurate-account-parenting-wrangling/dp/1913256065 A Dozen Summers: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3533254/ Kenton Hall & The Necessary Measures: https://kentonhallthenecessarymeasures.bandcamp.com/Find out more about Rai:Website: https://www.behindthelabel.co.uk

In this episode, I talk about finding the right songs for your voice. There are a few ways of looking at this. 1. What do you love to sing 2. What is your range 3. What styles are you most comfortable with 4. Don't limit yourself & sing what you are passionate about. I cover ways to discover your range, what keys will work for you, how to find what styles feel most comfortable and how to experiment with singing in a more acoustic style or with a full band and back line. Songs of victory sung AFTER victory are not true songs of faith. What we need; what the WORLD needs, are Christians who will sing the Right Song, on the Wrong Side no matter how bleak the situation is. This is when perfect peace comes, and it is only supplied by the Lord Himself. Isaiah 26:3
Have you ever selected a song for a time of worship that was the right song, but in the wrong place? By the way, it’s just a short episode this week, because my daughter is getting married on Saturday! Let me report on something which happened at church today. I asked one of our worship team to select the songs this week (it’s always good to get different people to select from time to time, but that’s for another episode). On this occasion it was Wale. One of the songs he picked was, “sanctuary”. A reflective, devotional song. He placed it just before the sermon - the part of the service when we normally get people to sing more energetically before they sit down to listen for 30 minutes or so. I asked him why he had selected a more reflective song and he said that it was in hopes that it would help the congregation to prepare their hearts to receive the Word of God. I really liked his thinking. I suggested that he explain this to the congregation when we sing the song. He did this on Sunday saying something along the lines of, “We normally sing a more upbeat song before the sermon, but today I thought we would sing this song because it’s about having the right heart with God, and we want to have the right heart as we listen to Ian preach in a few minutes.” The congregation responded wholeheartedly, and I consider he made a brave and correct choice. It was the right song in the 'wrong’ place. Have you ever selected an upbeat song where you would normally have a reflective song or vice versa? How did it go? What was your thinking, and, on reflection, did it work? Please let us know when you have defied expectation or tradition to good effect. We'd all love to try your ideas. Please add your comments on this week’s topic. We learn best when we learn in community. Do you have a question about teaching the Bible? Is it theological, technical, practical?
