Katie Turner is a well known psychic and medium who has the ability to tap into timelines providing glimpses into the past, present and future. She is also a Paranormal Expert and Paranormal Investigator with the Canadian Supernatural Research Society, and you can also check out her show Paranormal Investigator on Netflix to watch some paranormal investigations in some haunted places right here in the Ottawa Valley! But how does someone know they're actually psychic? Are they really able to see and correctly predict someone's future? What about talking to loved ones that have passed, not to mention ghosts and spirits. And why should those who haven't been properly trained in dealing with ghosts really mind their own business before opening up portals that they might not be able to close themselves? Katie Turner explains it all to Holly and her co-host, Katie Hyska, Pure Country 96.7's afternoon show radio personality!
The Nightly Rant: Exploring the Quirks of Korean Barbecue and a Trip to the Great White NorthTheme 1: The Quirks of Korean BarbecueMike and Torya share their experiences at a Korean barbecue restaurant and discuss the peculiarities they encountered. They start by highlighting the way they were treated differently as white customers. Torya humorously remarks, "They treat you like you're some dumb white person who's come into their place and has no idea how to deal with their culture or way of cooking."One particular quirk they discuss is the restaurant staff's constant adjustment of the grill temperature. Torya explains, "They walk by, and everyone who works there that walks by looks down at the grill and lowers it." This behavior frustrates Mike and Torya, leading them to turn the grill temperature back up continuously. Torya even confronts one of the staff members, politely asking her not to touch the temperature. However, the staff member holds a grudge and continues to lower the temperature whenever she passes by.Mike speculates that the staff may assume that the white customers are burning their food and want to prevent it. Torya agrees, saying, "They assume that our food is burning, and they just want to adjust it to ensure it doesn't burn." However, they agreed it would be easier if the staff asked about the grill temperature instead of assuming.Theme 2: A Week in the Great White NorthMike and Torya then discuss their recent trip to the Great White North. They describe the smooth travel experience, except for a long line at the car rental center. Torya highlights the pleasant interactions with the car rental staff, emphasizing their friendliness.During their trip, they visited various places and enjoyed the company of their children. Torya mentions how she observed her children's reactions to the sights they visited, capturing their genuine interest on video. She is satisfied with their behavior, stating, "It was quite a pleasure to travel with them this time."They also recount their visits to different waterfalls, including the Lumbrick Falls, which they humorously call "southern Alberta's miniature Niagara Falls." They discuss the hikes they took to explore these falls, with Torya comparing one of the paths to a hike they did in Pasadena. They note that the paths in Canada are less maintained, possibly due to a lower fear of lawsuits compared to the United States.Theme 3: Culinary Delights and MisadventuresMike and Torya share their culinary experiences during their trip. They mention their son, Mitchell, choosing a Japanese curry katsu place for lunch, which they found to be delicious. Torya also recalls enjoying nachos at a pub and the unique experience of being in a dog-friendly establishment. They also discuss their search for the team store in Calgary, which proved challenging due to misleading directions. Despite the confusion, they found the store and explored the various sports teams represented there, including the Calgary Flames and the Calgary Hitmen.Theme 4: The Allure of Korean BarbecueReturning to Korean barbecue, Mike and Torya express their love for the Hanu Korean barbecue restaurant in Las Vegas. They praise the quality of the meat and the exceptional service, particularly the staff's continuous offers of more meat. Torya notes, "They're continually coming back and saying, 'Would you like more brisket? Would you like more of this? Would you like more of that?'"They compare this experience to other Korean barbecue places with a time limit but do not actively offer more food. Torya finds it interesting that Hanu Korean barbecue breaks this norm by continuously offering additional servings. They both agree that the restaurant provides a unique and enjoyable dining experience.Implications and Potential ImpactThe discussion on Korean barbecue and the trip to the Great White North highlights the quirks and delights of different cultural experiences. It sheds light on how customers are sometimes treated differently based on their ethnicity and the assumptions about their preferences. The continuous adjustment of the grill temperature at the Korean barbecue restaurant raises questions about communication and cultural understanding. The trip to the Great White North showcases the beauty of Canadian landscapes and the enjoyment of exploring new places with loved ones. It emphasizes the importance of creating lasting memories and appreciating the genuine reactions of family members. The culinary experiences during the trip demonstrate the diversity of food choices and the pleasure of trying new dishes. It also highlights the impact of good service and its role in enhancing the overall dining experience. Conclusion and Future OutlookIn conclusion, Mike and Torya's discussion on Korean barbecue and their trip to the Great White North provides a humorous and insightful perspective on cultural experiences and culinary delights. Their experiences shed light on the quirks of Korean barbecue restaurants and the joys of exploring new places with loved ones.Looking ahead, it is important to continue embracing cultural diversity and fostering understanding between different communities. We can create a more inclusive and enriching society by appreciating and respecting each other's traditions and cuisines. So, next time you're in Las Vegas, don't forget to visit Hanu Korean barbecue for a unique and delicious dining experience. And if you ever find yourself in the Great White North, explore the breathtaking landscapes and indulge in the diverse culinary offerings.Hasta live and goodbye for now!TimestampSummary0:00:15Introduction to the nightly rant podcast0:01:29Discussion about the lack of Korean barbecue in Canada0:04:12Frustration with the Korean barbecue restaurant's constant grill temperature adjustment0:06:16Speculation on why the restaurant adjusts the grill temperature0:07:25Recap of the trip to the Great White North0:09:13Visiting various waterfalls during the trip0:09:47Hiking to different falls0:09:52Hiking a treacherous path with rewarding views0:09:45Hiking on miners path and another treacherous path0:10:56Difficulty finding the team store in Calgary0:11:25Team store represented five different sports0:11:38Discussing the CFL team and other sports teams0:12:21Mitchell picked Japanese curry katsu place for lunch0:13:04Nachos at Pure Country saloon and Tap House place0:13:49Calgary's bad pizza and good nachos0:15:25All-you-can-eat Korean barbecue at Hanu in Vegas0:16:33Grill touching incident at Korean barbecue0:17:31Exhausted from the entire trip, need a vacation0:17:56Signing off and saying goodnight

To truly know where your meat comes from you need to actually VISIT the farm. And that's just what we did! We traveled 2.5 hours away to Moses Lake WA and visited Pure Country Farms, where we get 90+% of our meat from. This hog and cattle farm is family owned and operated and large enough to supply us with consistent cuts for a few restaurants, butcher shops and stores in WA, but small enough to where they can have their hands on every step of the process. We are proud to serve their meat and trust their philosophy and process. This is what we learned... Welcome to The Lady Jaye Meat Dudes! Katie Turner explains it all to Holly and her co-host, Katie Hyska, Pure Country 96.7's newest afternoon show radio personality!

Hey all - as discussed in the intro to this, we're taking a one-week hiatus, partly for Justin's birthday, partly due to some necessary & unavoidable schedule shuffling on our back end. We'll be back next week with a split episode between Bec & Justin on Elvis as Producer/Arranger and Gurdip & Justin on Songs of the Week. This week, rather than dropping an old Songs of the Week compilation as we would have done in the past, we're giving a sampler of some Patreon content from 2021, two episodes packed into one! First up is the first episode of our "TCBCast Jukebox" spin-off where Justin and Gurdip review albums & singles from Elvis's contemporaries or influences, starting with Jackie Wilson's 1958 debut solo LP "He's So Fine." Then, on our general pop culture project, TCBCast Now, alongside some movie/game/TV/music time capsule news from June 2021 (with surprisingly lots of Elvis talk!!), Gurdip gets put to the challenge of reacting to 8 country music songs Justin grew up with from the 80s-00s, then both guys continue the country theme by spotlighting a country song apiece in "Song of the Month." Gurdip tackles Canadian entertainer Colter Wall's rootsy "The Devil Wears a Suit & Tie" while Justin, tying in an interesting Colonel Parker connection, chooses "Heartland" from the 1992 film "Pure Country" starring George Strait. Hopefully you enjoy hearing the type of content that's been available as bonuses to qualifying Patreon backers through what's now coming up on two years! We always weave a vein of Elvis through our bonus content, while also showcasing more of our broader interests beyond him. We also feature unofficial commentaries and bonus movie reviews on both Elvis - & early rock-n-roll-related films. If you're interesting in hearing more of what's in the TCBCast bonuses archive alongside new monthly material and help support the main show's production, we hope you'll considering supporting us with a donation at Patreon.com/TCBCast. If you are unable to support us via Patreon, but want to support us another way, please make sure to leave a positive review or mention our show to another like-minded music history and movie enthusiast.

Singer/Songwriter/Actor John Doe tells terrific tales: hanging with Dennis Quaid and Winona Ryder in Memphis, gigging with Nick Lowe in London and hearing his voice come out of Christian Bale's mouth in Todd Haynes's Dylan biopic I'm Not There.Did John's appearance with LA punk band X on the Letterman Show in 1983 inspire Dylan's wild 1984 set with The Plugz? What did he say when he suddenly found himself face-to-face with Bruce Springsteen at that Grammy thing? Did Jerry Lee Lewis actually call him a "fucking asshole" the first time they met? John raves about Tulsa's new Bob Dylan Center and answers all the above questions, as he presses on…John Doe and his bandmates in X made 6 studio recordings from 1978-1993. "I'm gonna be a singer! I'm gonna take Michael Jacksons Place!" Connor Christian, front man and main songwriter of the Nashville based band The Southern Gothic talks about childhood dreams & the bands new EP "Burnin' Moonlight" www.thesoutherngothicmusic.com - For Connor Christian, frontman & principal songwriter of The Southern Gothic, life has always been about the journey. The son of an American serviceman & diplomat, that journey started at 6 months old, when his family moved from Los Angeles to Jakarta, Indonesia and from there on to places such as Singapore, South Korea, and Belgium, as well as stints all over the US. “I never lived anywhere long enough to think of it as a hometown, to make those lifelong memories and associations, so I learned to take little pieces from every stop and make them part of my story” That story led Connor to Atlanta GA as a young adult. Stints in several other bands led to the formation of The Southern Gothic with former Truckadelic drummer Shawn Thacker. What started as a high energy, house cover band at venerated Atlanta dive bar, Dixie Tavern, grew along with Connor's writing to become the band that Billboard Magazine called it's ‘Band on the Verge'. Ten months later, the band's second album, ‘New Hometown' debuted #1 on Billboard's Heatseeker chart and #17 on it's country albums chart. The same month, the first single from the record, “Sheets Down” reached #1 on CMT's Pure Country 12-Pack Countdown, a spot it held for 4 weeks. The album, a 20-song semi-autobiographical opus, equal parts Tennessee Williams & Homer, “Tumbleweed Connection” era Elton John, Guns n Roses and Chris Stapleton - tells the story of a man looking for a home, and artist searching for his muse, and a band finding its own way. People surprised by the band's ‘overnight' chart success hadn't been paying attention to the way the band built that excitement. Averaging almost 200 shows per year for the previous 4 years, the band built a chemistry with each other and a reputation for an electric live show – even the acoustic ones. Sharing stages with bands as diverse as Willie Nelson, ZZ Top, Uncle Kracker, Styx, Zac Brown Band, and Heart, SoGo's honest lyrics, heartfelt melodies, and stellar musicianship cut through to appeal to fans across the world without regard to genre, age, or locale. With the 2020 release of the Southern Gothic's New EP, Burnin' Moonlight, Connor, Thacker and the band prove again that they will continue to evolve, unbound and unafraid to explore new territory every time out. Working with Grammy-winning producer Jonathan Roye (Kelsey Ballerini) and Grammy-nominated producer Keith Hetrick (Charlie Wilson) SoGo explores the intersection of Americana, Pop, and Rock n' Roll to create something uniquely now and undeniably, The Southern Gothic. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/groovelab/support
