We purchased a 2025 Kia K4 LXS for CR's test program. At $24,320, the K4 is priced surprisingly low for a new car. Does it deliver value for money? We break down the Kia K4's features, tech, and performance, and compare it to compact rivals like the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, and the outgoing Kia Forte. What safety and convenience features are included—or left out? We also answer a question about EVs and cargo capacity and help a viewer choose a reliable, fuel-efficient new car, with a hitch for a bike rack, for under $28,000. In this special edition of The Healey Brothers Show, we're on the ground at the 2025 New York International Auto Show with James Bell, Head of Corporate Communications for Kia America. We talk about Kia's massive brand transformation over the past decade, from the game-changing introduction of the Stinger to the strategic logo rebrand that elevated the company from a “used car alternative” to a top-tier automotive brand. James shares his personal journey with Kia, the brand's electrification strategy, and why the rebranding effort helped reshape public perception. We also get his take on the excitement surrounding the all-new EV4, the K4 hatchback, and the EV3's big win as 2025 World Car of the Year—even before its U.S. release. If you're into branding, EV innovation, or just want a behind-the-scenes look at Kia's evolution, this one's for you.
The hosts opened the show by discussion Rivian's “micromobility” operation, which was recently spun off from the parent company. "ALSO," as the new concern is called, is headquartered in California, and will focus on designing and building e-bikes, scooters, and other small electric vehicles. Tom also briefly addressed the tariff situation, which is likely to become much bigger news in the next day or so. The hosts also lamented the violence being wrought upon Tesla cars and showrooms. Tom expressed his surprise regarding the general excellence of the new-for-2025 Kia K4 small sedan. A replacement for the brand's Forte model, the K4 is efficient, fun to drive, and also surprisingly affordable. Jill reviewed the 2025 Lexus NX 450h+, a plug-in hybrid version of the Japanese luxury carmaker's compact crossover. Though Jill balked at the price, her impressions were mostly positive. Listen in for her full review. In the second segment, Jill and Tom welcome Derek Kravitz of Consumer Reports to the show. Derek shared research conducted by Consumer Reports regarding car data privacy, and what consumers can do to protect themselves from makers sharing their personal information. In the last segment, Jill is subjected to Tom's “Fake Paint” quiz.

The 2025 Kia K4 compact sedan takes center stage in this episode as Host Jack Nerad gives its two key versions thorough test drives and sits down with its chief product planner, Kia America's Young Kim, in an exclusive interview to unpack its bold features and market potential. A finalist for North American Car of the Year, the 2025 Kia K4 offers a bold exterior design and feature-rich interior. As the successor to the Kia Forte, the K4 blends fastback-inspired styling with a wide, confident stance. The K4 is powered by a choice of two engines: a 147-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) or a 190-horsepower 1.6-liter turbocharged engine paired with a conventional eight-speed automatic transmission. Key exterior elements include vertically oriented LED headlights, a sleek roofline with hidden rear door handles, and an available GT-Line Turbo trim featuring sporty gloss black accents and 18-inch alloy wheels. Its larger dimensions contribute to its class-leading interior space, including a remarkable 38 inches of rear legroom. Inside, the K4 leads the segment with cutting-edge technology, including a segment-first 30-inch digital display that integrates the instrument cluster and infotainment screen. In this week's road tests, Jack Nerad takes us behind the wheel of the eminently likable 2025 Volvo S60 T8 AWD Plug-In Hybrid Ultra. Combining luxury, cutting-edge technology, and sustainable performance, the S60 T8 features a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined 455 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque. With an 18.8 kWh battery, it offers an impressive 41-mile all-electric range and achieves a 74 MPGe efficiency rating. Across the country, Co-Host Chris Teague sums up his lengthy stint in the 2025 Honda Odyssey, a vehicle that continues to set a benchmark for family-friendly minivans. With its refreshed exterior design and spacious interior, the Odyssey provides seating for up to eight passengers and exceptional cargo space, making it ideal for families like Chris's as Christmas looms. Under the hood, its time-tested 3.5-liter V6 engine delivers smooth performance and reasonable fuel efficiency. Special features include Honda's Magic Slide second-row seats for flexibility, a rear entertainment system with built-in streaming apps, and CabinWatch and CabinTalk technology. Teague will have more in his full report. Driving News In the news this week, Honda is reigniting excitement among enthusiasts with the revival of its iconic Prelude nameplate. This time, the legendary coupe returns as a hybrid-electric sports car, blending Honda's celebrated performance heritage with forward-looking electrification. But will it win the hearts of longtime Prelude enthusiasts? Chris and Jack will offer their thoughts. Porsche is celebrating 50 years of turbocharging innovation with a special four-part YouTube series that explores the legacy of its groundbreaking engineering. From motorsport dominance to iconic series production models, the series delves into the history and evolution of Porsche's Turbo technology, and we'll have the details on where and when to watch. As we close in on Christmas, Ford injects a dose of holiday cheer with the whimsical Ranger Raptor North Edition, a concept explicitly designed for Santa Claus. Packed with creative features like a heated hot chocolate holder and an infinity load box for presents, this playful (and fictional) concept blends humor with Ford's signature engineering prowess. Toyota has decided to make its 2025 bZ4X electric SUV more enticing with significant updates, including a reduced list price. We'll tell you more. An Interview with Anthony McHenry, Chief Executive Officer, Milwaukee Academy of Science When it comes to urban education, the news is almost always negative. Poor academic performance, abysmal graduation rates and unruly classrooms have become the norm. Students have suffered because of these failures, often falling through the cracks. One of those schools is Milwaukee Academy of Science (MAS). Our guest on this episode of Voices of Freedom is Anthony McHenry, CEO of MAS, a STEM-focused, K4-12 charter school whose mission is to graduate urban students prepared to compete at the post-secondary level. McHenry discusses what's behind MAS's success and how to offer more opportunities for students to get ahead. Topics Discussed on this Episode: McHenry's story and how it drives him to be a leader Why society has failed kids, and the opportunities squandered because of it The circumstances causing students to be in volatile situations How MAS addresses the challenges its students face, particularly when it comes to transportation How MAS encourages students to imagine the possibilities for their lives How to get kids excited about and engaged in science MAS's efforts to keep high quality teachers and administrators What MAS's new addition will allow it to do and what will it mean for the families it serves What needs to be done so that there are more opportunities for kids to succeed Anthony McHenry has been CEO of MAS since 2016. Under his leadership, MAS has increased enrollment, entered into new partnerships and improved academic outcomes. MAS has also developed one of the area's top school athletic programs. Prior to joining MAS, McHenry served for nearly 20 years as executive director of the Silver Spring Neighborhood Center in Milwaukee's Westlawn neighborhood.

In episode 94 of the BaT Podcast, Alex, Randy and Zac shoot the breeze (but not the fish) about: Corona vs Cordoba, a rosier view of the current state of the market, Carrera RS colors, the dread question: "Is it real?", anti-stripe contrarianism, and searching by Lot Number, capping things off with a rambling exploration through our leaders' highly eclectic watchlists. They move on to display their collective, uncanny ability for remembering specific details from a huge list of movie cars (both stars and extras), dissect "ground effects," point out flawed car casting, and intentionally leave Eleanor out in the cold. The Hyundai Santa Fe midsize crossover has been successful for multiple generations in the United States, but it is expected to leap to an even higher level with the imminent introduction of the all-new 2024 version. Host Jack Nerad drove the vehicle on and off the road at a recent introductory event outside Nashville, and he got the opportunity for a detailed sit-down interview with Hyundai product planner Mike Evanoff. In many ways, the new Santa Fe is a breakthrough that we expect will find a very receptive audience here in the United States. Hyundai's Evanoff describes the meticulous efforts the Hyundai designers made to prepare the new vehicle, and he'll detail his own camping trip in it as well. We'll have the exclusive interview for you in this edition of America on the Road. In the road test segment, Co-Host Chris Teague will outline his recent week-long stint at the wheel of the 2024 Subaru Ascent. That crossover is the largest in the Subaru lineup, and Teague compares and contrasts it with his family's Volvo XC90. The vehicles have some striking similarities. Also, in our road tests, Jack Nerad will describe his lengthy driving experience with the extremely pleasant 2024 Genesis G70. The midsize sedan isn't the sportiest in the segment, but it might well be the best value, and Nerad will tell you why. Leading the news this week, Jeep has pulled the wraps off four fascinating concept vehicles in Moab, and we'll tell you all about them. Volkswagen is on the verge of launching an all-new battery-electric vehicle brand in the United States, and if you think the timing might be a little suspect, well, perhaps we do, too. We'll tell you more. One thing about which there is no question is auto dealers' ire at the new Environmental Protection Agency regs that will require them to sell more EVs. One very prominent dealer says the regulations leave consumers out of the equation, and we'll have details. Kia just introduced an all-new vehicle—the K4—at the New York Auto Show. We'll tell you what it is, what it replaces, and give you our reaction soon. So we have a whale of a show this Easter weekend. Thanks for joining us. America on the Road is brought to you by Driving Today.com, Mercury Insurance, and EMLandsea.com , the publisher of Nerad's latest book, Dance in the Dark, which is available HERE on Amazon.com
