There are fixed taxi rates to the airport, so uber and lyft weren't as present for port transportion after they got off the Viking Jupiter.  They enjoyed the priority pass lounge at the airport before flying to Ibiza. They went to the hippy market which had great people watching. They met Maggie Steffens, an olympic water polo player and she recommended a family-owned restuarant that was fantastic: https://en.welcometoibiza.com/restaurants/Bar-anita-ca-nanneta/ More restaurants we loved! https://www.bambuddha.com/ https://www.restauranteesventall.com/index_en.html https://restaurantcanrafalet.com/en/home https://nakedground.coffee/ Viking Jupiter  Tip of the day: Do your research on airbnb hosts to make sure it is not a shared space if you don't want to share a bathroom. Also, rounding up is the customary tip style in Spain. Ken recommends using the app Global tips: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/globetips-travel-tips/id462719356  Ken and Gisele Fowle retired several years ago to pursue their lifelong love of travel. They've been to Barcelona a lot, so this tour was good to see a lot in a short amount of time. The Viking stop in Barcelona was a little odd because they landed there and THEN departed the next day. They visited restaurants that were open and discussed some great must-see spots such as the Sagrada Familia (get tickets obvioulsy!). Think about when you go as there are cool things to consider in terms of sunlight coming in through the windows at different times of the day. Viking Jupiter  Tip of the day: Ken's tip is that since 70% of flights are booked for summer 2023, you ought to book flights sooner rather than later - prices are not likely to come down folks! Gisele's tip is to pay attention to your credit card perks when you travel. Ken and Gisele Fowle retired several years ago to pursue their lifelong love of travel. It was a beautful city with some Dutch and Portuguese influences, so was very interesting (lots of historical brothels!).  They are recording on the second of four days at sea traversing the Atlantic en route to Africa. They crossed the equator and made a big deal about pollywags (those that have not yet crossed the equator).  Viking Jupiter  Tip of the day: Rainjackets and water pants are a must. CNN recently released a ranking of products that we recommend reviewing if you are in the market. Also, always bring some over the counter drugs for allergies, stomach aches, cough syrup, etc. Ken and Gisele Fowle retired several years ago to pursue their lifelong love of travel. If you needed encouragement to travel more in your 50's and 60's then you might be emboldened to know that senior travel is to become a post-pandemic trend with travel agents now promoting ‘Age-Friendly Tourism' as more older people than ever before are looking to prioritise travel in their lives. In this first episode, Janice Horton - otherwise known as The Backpacking Housewife - discusses these new trends being reported in the media and considers the subject of over 50's taking a work sabbatical to work remotely or even early retirement in order to travel. She also considered the merits of 'revenge travel' being all the rage due to the pandemic and the boom in boomer and empty nest travel and the 'selling it all to travel the world' method of the over 50's and 60's achieving long term travel. Bravely, she broaches the seldom-discussed subject of Travel Fear amongst people in their midlife and older who yearn to travel but feel worried or unsure and explains why you should never ever let that stop you from pursuing your dreams and planning for your New Future.  Janice concludes this episode by giving you 10 good reasons to embrace your golden years of travel!

“A healthy habit is a great habit in general, but it’s even better when you can use it in your work.”—Tracey Minkin Great Escape Radio Host, Jody Maberry brings Tracey Minkin, the Senior Travel and Features Editor for Coastal Living back to the podcast broadcasting live from the Ultimate Travel Writer’s Workshop in Austin, Texas. You can listen to the previous episode with her here. This week, Jody and Tracy are talking about some of the daily practices for travel writing. Jody asks Tracy to share some of the things new writers can do to change their mindset and begin thinking like a travel writer. “The thing I need to do the most hour after hour…place after place…morning, noon and night is harvest really good details. I need to be on constant prowl for specifics… about landscapes… people… how things sound… the smells… the color of the sea—a really big deal for us at Coastal Living!” The key to bringing those details to your writing is to note them while you’re in the moment. Days… even hours later, you won’t easily recall specific details of a place or experience. Tracy shares with us five easy mental exercises to employ in our daily lives. Following these exercises will help us build habits that will be effective in making our notes…and subsequently, our articles really strong. If you’re interested in getting started with travel writing, you can sign up for a free video with more details here: https://www.greatescapepublishing.com/start/travelwriting/.

Tracy’s a great conversationalist, which was proven when she won a conversation competition in high school—a title that came with a $1,000 prize! Her inherent conversation skills have served her well… “Loving to chit chat, hangout with locals and hear their stories is what makes travel writing better…and it makes it super fun!” By nature, most journalists are curious and anxious to talk to people. As Tracy says, “We’re nosey!” But what if you’re shy about opening up a conversation with a stranger? Tracy suggests hiring a local guide. “When you hire a local guide, you not only gain unique insights into a place, you also support the local economy.” Listen in as Tracy and Jody discuss some of the interesting stories they’ve gathered from starting conversations with strangers. You’ll also get more tips on how to use these conversations in your writing.
