“ We don't choose what turns us on… but we get to play with it.”Too often, women move into adulthood (and even marriage) without a real roadmap for understanding their own desires, let alone the conversations that bring intimacy to life. In this episode, we're exploring how putting yourself at the center of your erotic life can transform not just your sex life, but your confidence, creativity, and sense of empowerment in every area. Our guests, Danielle Harel and Celeste Hirschman, are co-founders of the Somatica Institute, known for their pioneering, hands-on approach to sex and relationship coaching. They don't just teach theory—they teach the real-world skills we all wish we'd learned in school, like tolerating awkwardness, negotiating desires without guilt, and sitting with the sometimes-uncomfortable tension of wanting different things to create deeply fulfilling relationships. In this candid, powerful episode, Erin, Danielle, and Celeste unpack:Why so many people enter adult relationships without the tools to express feelings, ask for what they need, support a partner, or handle emotional tensionThe importance of women learning to re-center themselves (over others!) in sex, relationships, and lifeHow to sit with discomfort and why it's essential for creating healthy, lasting relationshipsWhy most of us are taught to downplay our own pleasure and how to finally unlearn itCreating a “pleasure menu”: how getting specific about your unique turn-ons and needs can transform sex and relationshipsWhy a wide range of sexual fantasies can be a healthy part of your erotic life when explored consciously and consensuallyWhy we don't get to choose what turns us on, but we can choose how we play and interact with those feelings in the bedroom, with agency and empowermentHow building a “village” of emotional support (friends, therapists, community) can take the pressure off your romantic relationshipsOUR GUESTS: Danielle Harel, Ph.D., and Celeste Hirschman, M.A., are pioneers in intimacy, sexuality, and relationship coaching. If you're a person with a penis or partnered with someone with one, this episode will help you understand and solve some very common orgasm challenges for male-bodied people during partner sex: having orgasms sooner than you'd like ("premature ejaculation" or PE) or not at all. It will help you stop trying to extend your time to orgasm by thinking about something awful and checking out (pro tip: that is horrible advice), and I'll walk you through what actually works instead. If you have trouble orgasming with a partner, or you'd just like to try some new approaches to orgasm, this episode will also help you with the most common reason for that and how to overcome it. Childbirth is not just a physical act; it's the ultimate confluence of sensuality, power, and transformation! Join Dr. Danielle Harel as she redefines the concept of the intersection of sexuality and childbirth. Emphasizing the transformative power of breath and mindful movement, she reveals how the pelvic floor is the nexus of empowerment. Challenging societal norms, Dr. Harel paints birth as an orgasmic, sensual experience. Tune in, reconnect with your body, and explore the potent blend of sexuality in motherhood. Don't miss this enlightening journey! Dr. Danielle Harel is the co-creator of the Somatica Method and the co-founder of the Somatica Institute. She has a Ph.D. in Human Sexuality (DHS), a graduate degree in Clinical Social Work (MSW), and a Bachelors (BA) degree in Psychology and Educational Counseling. As a somatic sexologist, professor, and author, Danielle has devoted the last 20 years to resolving her client's sexual challenges, training sex & relationship coaches, and empowering people. In this episode: Introduction of Dr. Danielle Harel, co-creator of the Somatica Method, who has done extensive research on orgasmic birth, discussing the role of sexual empowerment in women's empowerment Danielle's personal journey of her not-so-empowered birthing experiences and her realization about the lack of embodiment in traditional birth education Her research reveals two main groups of people regarding orgasmic birth: those who proactively use sexuality during childbirth for empowerment and connection and those who unexpectedly experience orgasms during childbirth Dr. Harel introduces a practice focusing on deep inhalation, extending breath awareness down to the pelvic floor, with this, individuals can cultivate heightened sensations and an intensified connection with their sexual energy Through her training sessions, she assists individuals in reconnecting with their bodies, advocating for people to actively acknowledge and reclaim different parts of their bodies As individuals become more sexually empowered, they often experience a renewed sense of aliveness Addressing the societal dichotomy between motherhood and sexuality, Dr. Harel underscores that birth is an inherent part of the life cycle and is closely linked to sexuality Dr. Danielle offers training for professionals to become sex coaches and a workshop called In Love to help people learn tools of relating and sexuality Key Takeaways: Understanding and harnessing sexual energy can transform your life and your birth Sexuality and orgasms can help the body relax, feel safe, and expand during childbirth Sexual empowerment is about feeling alive and connected to our erotic energy Taking deep breaths and squeezing the pelvic floor can help us become more sensitized to our bodies Bringing awareness to the pelvic floor and breathing into it can help sexual empowerment Holding hands on the belly and saying "this is mine" can be powerful Feeling alive, joy, pleasure, and being able to say yes/no more clearly are benefits of connecting with erotic energy Integrating sexuality in birth can be challenging but beneficial Tweetable Quotes: "So when people embody and connect with the erotic energy, their accessibility to the turn ons is much higher. They feel more joy, they feel more pleasure walking day in and day out in the world. They are just more alive." - Danielle Harel "We're not just like walking heads. There's so much more of us than our brains, and living fully in our body is such a much more expended way of living." - Danielle Harel Connect with Danielle! Connect with the coaches!Dori MeltonAs a Sex and Relationship Coach, my mission is to help people prioritize their pleasure as a way to deepen connection in their relationships. I'm a big fan of LOVE but I learned through my own personal experience that it isn't always enough. A few years ago my marriage of almost 30 years exploded and I was forced to go through the most difficult transition of my life. It was through that experience that I came to Somatica Sex & Relationship coaching. Although it was, at times, incredibly painful, I came away transformed and am currently living the life of my dreams, full of passion and more love than I imagined possible. I learned how to access and pursue my own desire and follow where that leads me. Today it has led me to help others like myself to go through similar transformations. A few of the areas that I specialize in are guiding individuals and couples in the journey of consensual non-monogamy and other alternative relationship paradigms and helping individuals explore their sexuality whether that is kink, BDSM, role play or the many other vast sex positive alternatives. I am open to all sexual orientations and identify as queer. I have a MA in Clinical Psychology and worked for 10 years with children and families. That experience has given me a firm foundation in understanding attachment theory and the ability to explore difficult topics in a non-judgmental, non-shaming, compassionate way. For over a decade she has supported people of all kinds so they can experience greater connection, peace, and freedom in their bodies, relationships, and communities. She believes that cultivating a sense of belonging and pleasure is essential resilience practice for navigating these uncertain times. Some of her specialties and interests include supporting folks through significant life transitions, illness and trauma, unwinding body shame, and sexual challenges (particularly around performance, low libido and pain). Although she welcomes people of all identities, cultures, gender expressions, orientations, abilities and bodies, she is especially passionate about supporting those who want to be lovingly and fiercely held as they step more fully and authentically onto their lifepaths and missions, folks who are Asian/POC , and those who want to engage in Chinese/Asian cultural reclamation work. Her work is rooted in somatics, science, the erotic and the sacred. It can sometimes be hands-on. It is always trauma-informed, loving, and compassionate. I had the pleasure of interviewing Amy Baldwin of the highly successful podcast, Shameless Sex. The Shameless Sex Podcast was birthed by two badass b*thces, Amy Baldwin, "who is a Somatic Sex and Relationship Coach (trained in the Somatica® Method), Certified Sex Educator, sales trainer and educator for Uberlube, as well as co-owner of a mother-daughter owned pleasure boutique called Pure Pleasure Shop." Along with April Lampert, "who has been educating people about sexual pleasure, health and wellness at a global scale for the past 9 years. She travels internationally as VP of Hot Octopuss, an innovative pleasure product company. April was voted Woman of the Year in the adult industry, and continues to climb to new heights as the Boss Queen that she is." My interview with Amy Baldwin, was informative, highly enlightening and funny as hell. We talked about why Oral Sex is still taboo; and why? How Oral Sex, still lives in the same vein as Anal Sex...meaning in that some states rule both as being illegal. (Pure insanity). Is sex just sex...? The great news is that I also, had the pleasure of meeting both Amy and April at the 2018 Sex Expo; and what a pure delight it was. I did discussed with Amy, how my favorite Realty Show Big Brother House on CBS disrespected the words: Oral Sex. Which inpsired me to do this episode..."Shut Your Mouth". CBS censored one of their house guest, Scottie of the Big Brother House Season 20 for "inferring" that Oral Sex was very alive and present in the house this season...allegedly. He told his house guest during the "eviction vote", that if they don't vote for him to stay...go Suck it! Haha,ha! ;o)Support the show (https://oralicious.com/podcast/)
