Psychedelic therapies are a revolutionary approach to resolving numerous issues most commonly delegated to the mental health arena. The realm of sex therapy is one of those realms where ketamine and other psychedelic therapies can shed a new light for hope and healing of common sexual issues such as erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, challenges with reaching orgasm, communication, and other common relationship challenges couples face. In today's episode I interview Dr. Stephen Radowitz, Chief Medical Officer, Co-Founder, Nushama, a psychedelic wellness center located in Manhattan, NY. Starting his career in New York during the peak of the opioid and AIDS crises, Dr. Steven Radowitz has a wealth of experience seeing the effects trauma and addiction can have on our physical health. Dr. Radowitz joined Nushama, at the intersection of science and spirituality, to oversee and develop treatment modalities. He believes psychedelic medicine's framework of neuroscience, mystical experience, and integration therapy is the future of mental wellness, and current solutions often fall short, treating symptoms without addressing underlying issues. Tune in to our juicy conversation to discover: *Why ketamine is a groundbreaking psychedelic therapy. *How ketamine works and how to know if you or a loved one qualifies for this kind of therapy. *Why psychedelic medicine's is the antidote to current solutions that often fall short. *The problem with treating symptoms instead of root causes. *How our relationships with ourselves can develop and grow through psychedelic therapy. *The most common sexual wellness issues that ketamine therapy has been shown to alleviate. Somatic Sex Educator and Certified Sexological Bodyworker Alyssa Morin joins us on this episode to explore cutting edge frameworks for improving intimacy and connection. Alyssa outlines practices to facilitate healing and get into deeper contact with what feels good. Plus, we look at how this branch of “parts work” can positively impact other areas of life outside the bedroom.Alyssa guides individuals, couples, and groups on how they can better navigate intimacy with themselves and the people around them. So much of her work centers on helping folks break out of the unconscious narratives or expectations they have about pleasure, sex, intimacy, and connection. Many of those scripts result in nervous system dysregulation, and in our conversation, We explore opportunities that arise when we or our partners can identify your fight, flight, freeze or appease response in an intimate situation. This week, Natashia Fuksman, MFT, CST, joins me to discuss paying homage to our bodies and our sense of self in relation to others, holding space and normalizing the differences in our bodies after pregnancy and giving birth, and steps to begin healing relationally. Natashia is genuinely the boss of metaphors and providing different vantage points to look at and consider significant issues in a new way. This episode includes relating postpartum to puberty, toddlers learning what their yeses and no's are and how that relates to sexual encounters postpartum, a way for non-birthing people to contemplate how a birthing person's relationship with their own body can change, and generally, how to reconceptualize sexuality in its different forms. As the sexual beings that we are, we can choose to embrace our sexuality throughout our lifespan, treating it like a "work in progress" and keep seeking pleasure al-ways. There is a part of sexuality that is not talked about often, sexuality and cancer or any other long-term medical diagnosis, so this week's guest, Faith Laux, comes to share her experience with pleasure as an added healing modality, and shed some light on this very important topic. Faith Laux is a Somatic Sex, Love and Relationships coach. Her transformational coaching helps her clients reconnect to the wisdom, intuition and enchantment of their body so that they are empowered to thrive sexually. She helps her clients prioritize their pleasure and delight in their sexual energy. In May of 2022 she was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Since then, she has been adding pleasure as a healing modality alongside her treatments to help her thrive and enjoy life on an otherwise grueling journey. She has additional experience with shamanic healing and emotional empowerment which she weaves into her offerings. Mother, artist, wife, teacher and adventurer Faith seeks to normalize the conversation around sexuality, cancer and desire. If you start thinking about healing as an integrative work, you can approach cancer and any other long-term diagnosis as a part of your life that can be welcomed, understood, nourished and even loved. Moving with it as opposed to rejecting it and desperately attempt to purge it, bringing in an opportunity to connect with a part of yourself that calls for your attention. This smooth dive into a different stage of life, allows you to integrate all your parts, including your sexuality, and pursue true wholeness. In many cases, an unresolved sexual issue can be, not only the source of emotional distress and a dimmed sexual life, but also of disease, and there lies the importance of integration. Being honest, we know much of our lives revolve around sexuality! So this episode is an invitation to work on yourself, embrace your sexuality and never settle for the idea that the best sex of your life is behind you. And if you or a beloved one are going through cancer, Faith's story will be truly beneficial. Tune in! In this episode: Cancer as an entity that is part of a person's life The transition from diagnosis to treatment The importance of a support network How trauma could manifest in physical form Why your sexuality deserves the front row in your life Healing work: mind, heart and body Let's connect! Rachel Overvoll is a Somatic Sex and Intimacy Coach and published author of Finding Feminism. Using her credentials from the Somatica Institute and Kinsey Institute, she works through the mediums of embodiment and self-attunement to help clients step into the power of an authentic and pleasure-centered life. The term “purity culture” is generally associated with the white, American, Evangelical Christian Purity Movement. However, evangelicals don't have a monopoly on the ethics of purity culture. The specifics vary by religion and culture, but gender and sexual control upon which purity culture stands is global, cross-religious, and cross-cultural. Rachel and Dr. Kate talk about the Purity Culture that conflates women's worth with their virginity.Couples don't even hold hands til engaged. Any distractions to man's path to God are a sin.But actually, men keep control over women's bodies in the form of sexual oppression. Some see it as positive…but in the Purity Culture, it is embedded so deeply and really is oppression. Rachel talks about how Purity culture instills in women a deep hatred of their bodies and mistrust of their bodies because they are taught it causes evil.Women in this culture cannot enjoy their bodies as it causes themselves and men to sin.The process of women trying to leave the Purity culture is also part of the conversation: Regaining love of your body, and knowing you deserve pleasure.Dr. Kate and Rachel talk about:1. what purity culture is and some of the lessons it teaches children growing up in it 2. How did Rachel begin to unpack purity culture messaging? 3. How does purity culture impact how someone shows up for themselves? For a partner? 4. How can someone recovering from purity culture begin to explore what is pleasurable for them? 5. How can someone deal with the shame that's rooted in purity culture as they begin their exploration of pleasure? And so much more. Ever wished sex were easier? As in, that you could feel totally comfortable in your body, fearless in your sexuality, easily ask for what you want, and facilitate hot sexy experiences with women you feel attracted to?Maybe you contend with premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction, or porn addiction. Maybe you're ashamed of how much you want sex or don't even go after women you really want because you're unsure you'll be able to perform sexually. Maybe you're with a partner but feel like you two could have a way better sex life.If any of this feels familiar, questions can come up like, "Why am I this way?" And, "How do I grow beyond this?"A lot of the men we work with are survivors of developmental trauma, aka little-T trauma. Big-T trauma tends to be more "obvious" (domestic violence, sexual abuse, war, etc.). But little-T trauma (developmental trauma) can have equally as big an impact on your nervous system and mind. And it affects not only how you feel about yourself, but how you operate sexually. One thing that can help these kinds of patterns dramatically is sexological bodywork — a modality that specifically helps with sexuality and overcoming trauma. Here we outline what sexological bodywork is and isn't, as well as somatic sex education.Yep, we're talking about how to overcome erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, or delayed ejaculation. We're talking about how to stop feeling ashamed of wanting sex, or of feeling like a bad man for even thinking about it. Want to overcome childhood trauma and thrive sexually? This week's episode of Messy Truths is a sensual one, because the ladies talk all things somatic sex with very special guest Chiara who joined us from Italy. Chiara is the founder of www.IntimaSeeCoaching.com which is a somatic sex and intimacy practice based in the Netherlands, and she gets candid about dirty talk, touch and igniting senses to create an enhanced sexual experience. In episode 42, Chiara begins by explaining the definition of somatic sex and how she became an educator (1:56). She reveals how women and men react differently to her practice (14:50). She also talks about the importance of knowing your body intimately for pleasure points and how resentment can be a major intimacy killer (18:32). Then, Chiara discusses the importance of safe spaces so people feel less shame and more empowerment about kinks and overall sexual desires (30:36). She believes the ultimate goal of sex should be pleasure and not just orgasms. The ladies discuss nudity and how the language we use about ourselves affect our sexual experience (47:08). The ladies also get into how senses like taste and smell can affect sexual experience (01:12:00). This episode is NSFW, so the ladies encourage you to listen alone or with your partner from beginning to end to learn about somatic sex. ********** If you're enjoying the Messy Truths Podcast, please leave a review and rate the show on your streaming platform.
