Y'all -- guess what! By the end of THIS YEAR, I'll be a published author! You may already know that I'm signed on with a speaking agency (Greek University) and through it, several other female speakers from the team are working together to co-author Greek University's newest book titled From Letters to Leaders: The Ladies Edition. And I've been able to write two chapters of the book! The process was a super cool experience because writing a book is something I can maaaaaybe see myself doing one day? Who knows! So it was definitely neat to be able to dip my toe in and get this experience. Now I won't give away too many details about the book's content, but I did get approval to share a little excerpt from one of my chapters titled "Can I Have It All? How to Balance Academics, Work, and Sorority Life." I chose this chapter because I knew I had a lot of experience to pull from, and insight to offer on the topic. And on this episode, I'm going to read part of the chapter to you! If you're into it, be sure to follow me on Instagram or sign up for my email list for more details on when the book is available for purchase. The mission of Latino fraternal organizations is a critical one when we consider the recruitment and retention of Latino students on college campuses in terms of love and belonging. We sat down with Dr. Cristina Luna, Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life at the University of Miami, as well as NALFO (National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations, Inc.) President. NALFO is an “umbrella” coalition established in 1998 to promote and foster positive interfraternal relations, communication, and development of all Latino fraternal organizations through mutual respect, leadership, honesty, professionalism and education. In episode 500 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast, we find out why Dr. Luna chose Baylor University for her undergraduate experience, what made her want to join Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc., what she is most proud of after serving as their National President and VP of Risk Management for a total of 6 years, what it's like to be the Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life at the University of Miami, what makes UIFI so special for those undergraduates that have never been a part of it, why the mission of NALFO is so important, what hazing typically looks like in Latine Greek Organizations, what about the culture in Latina-based sororities allows a level of tolerance for hazing in the new member process, and advice for council leaders to be sure they hit the ground running this semester. Enjoy!
Having worked for both a fraternity HQ and professionally on campuses for over a decade, Cory Bosco has worked with communities of all sizes across most of the US and Canada. While currently working as the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life at Bradley University, Cory has also helped create large-scale learning strategies having served as the Conference Chair and on the Conference Leadership Team for the Northeast Greek Leadership Association's Annual Conference. Cory's drive is to help fraternity and sorority members recognize the potential that they have to be transformative leaders, change thinkers, and tone setters for their own campus and beyond. He believes that fraternities and sororities serve an ever more pivotal role in our changing society and the college experience. Cory is dedicated toward providing skills development and practice for our fraternity and sorority members so that they may excel as leaders within their own chapters, councils, and communities. Whether you are looking to build up a chapter or strengthen a whole community, Cory has the experience, passion, and vision to help see your community grow and succeed. In episode 452 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast, Cory tells us why he chose SIUE for his undergraduate experience, what was special about Sigma Pi that made him want to join, what it was like working for the Sigma Pi headquarters as an Educational Leadership Consultant, what his advice is for choosing a Student Affairs Program, what he is most proud of from working with NGLA, what he learned by working with the Fraternity and Sorority community at UMBC, how the community is different at Bradley University, why other campuses should work with Cory on leadership workshops, and what a membership review looks like in your chapter (perhaps we should be doing them on a regular basis - proactively). Enjoy!

Book Synopsis: Rush: Memoir of a Gay Sorority Girl is an emotional roller coaster of a story about a shy girl from Texas who, in her quest for love and belonging, struggles with her sexual orientation and gender expression within the confines of sorority life at a Midwestern university. This memoir offers an exclusive peek into sorority and fraternity culture: rushing, pledging, initiation, partying, drinking, hooking up—and homophobia. Kristin lets us intimately witness her coming-out journey: drama with guys, fumbles with girls, romance with a female teacher; angst from keeping secrets; coming out in the student newspaper; the confidence of being out, along with the pain of being rejected for it. It's about falling down and standing tall, as we figure out who we are, and who we want to be.
Today we speak to Caitlin Roberts, Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life and Leo Serrato, Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life.

Former sorority member and Ice Cold Case podcast host Madison McGhee shares how she always dreamed of joining a sorority, which one she chose after growing up Christian, what the process of joining was like, being the only person of color in the sorority, how she was punished for not straightening her curly hair and prevented from holding a leadership position, feeling ostracized to the point that it harmed her mental health, and why it's so hard to create healthy group culture in Greek Life. LEXINGTON, Ky. (February 15, 2023) – The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) was founded May 10, 1930 on Howard University's campus in Washington, DC. Its signature program is the annual Homecoming Step Show, which has become a tradition on campus. She talks about leading her chapter's bible study as well as how she has found so much joy in life with Jesus. Diner Talks with James this week is with my dear friend, Sexual Violence Awareness and Healthy Relationships Speaker, Bonny Shade. We first kicked it off talking about buffalo wings with proper “wingo” and diner orders. She then told me about growing up with less than enough in Lake Worth, Florida, and what decisions her family made to set her up for success and make ends meet. From that time, Bonny developed a fascinating and, at times, debilitating relationship with money and finances. She then flipped the script on me and asked me to talk about my insecurities that I am still working on from high school. We talked about the desire to be relevant and fear of being irrelevant. We then discussed the Enneagram. Bonny is a type 3, “the achiever,” so that launched us into a important convo about being perfectionists in work, our marriages, and as parents. One of the most powerful moments was when Bonny told the story about how she never wanted to be a mom and her journey to being proud to be a mother. This was a beautiful episode, y'all. Hope you enjoy it! About the Guest: Bonny Shade helps student leaders and professionals learn how to prevent sexual violence, build healthy relationships, and empower each other to feel like they belong. As a professional speaker and curriculum designer with her own company, Bonny Shade Speaks, she travels and speaks to over 10,000 students annually. She also serves as the Associate Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life at UNC Charlotte. When she's not working, Bonny enjoys spending time with her family - her partner Chris and their 2 tiny humans. She loves chicken wings (bone- in only), bourbon, and a good pun. Here's a somewhat stuffy bio of me: I am an author, professional speaker, coach, host, and entrepreneur. My first book, Leading Imperfectly: The value of being authentic for leaders, professionals, and human beings, is available wherever people buy books. I speak internationally to willing and unwilling attendees about authenticity, vulnerability, and leadership. My clients include American Express, General Electric (GE), Accenture, Yale University, The Ohio State University, and many others. As a speaker, I am doing the two things I loves the most: making people think and making people laugh! I host my own events multiple times a year. They are 2-day events called Living Imperfectly Live (and sometimes they are 1-day virtual events). They are a space where humans from every walk of life can come together to be part of a community on the pursuit of badassery. The goal is to help attendees start living the life we say we want to live. Alas, you're here because of an idea I had a number of years ago and didn't think I was good enough to pull it off. I finally acted on it and alas Diner Talks with James was born! As you can see from what I do in my professional life, Diner Talks is alligned with everything I believe in and teach.
