On this episode of the Family Business Voice, Joseph W Reilly talks about inheritance — the often-overlooked problems associated with wealth, strategies for young inheritors to cultivate a healthy relationship with wealth, and tools, including the family office, that enable inheritors to generate positive outcomes with their wealth. Joseph W Reilly is a family office advisor and Director of the Inheritance Project, a platform that allows inheritors to explore the emotional and social impact of wealth through the experiences of others. – That wealth can be burdensome in some ways is often surprising to people. The stigma associated with talking about these problems and wealth in general, can exacerbate the isolation some inheritors feel. – There’s no hiding affluence from next-gens in the digital age. Instead, healthy relationships with wealth are rooted in open communication — talking about where it comes from and the responsibility that comes with it. – For next-gens, finding a way to apply themselves to a project they are passionate about is key. Rather than feeling burdened by their wealth, they can utilise it to create the change they wish to see in the world.
Welcome back to all of our friends from far and wide. We have finally made it to the second season. It's playoff time for high school football in the state of Georgia and we have a big show this week. We are excited to teams playing this week, but we also have three interviews as Coach Williams, Coach Shaw and Coach Maloof of Norcross join us to talk high school football. Our prayers go out to the Norcross community and to the family of Isaiah Banks, a member of the Norcross football team who sadly passed away earlier this week. Of course there are the normal segments as we catch you up on the Pick'em final standings, recap our Tropical Smoothie Player of the Week honors, talk GHSA realignment, preview the two playoff games involving county teams and of course a few laughs in between. On this episode of The Family Business Voice, we spoke to Genette Gregson, CEO of All States Trailer Spares (ASTS), about open communication, next-generation structuring and the characteristic family business work ethic. Since ASTS was founded by Genette’s father, Peter Hilton, in 1997, it’s become one of the industry leaders as a distributor of spare parts for trailers to the automotive, industrial and OEM markets in Australia and New Zealand. Genette now works closely with her sister, Sheree Robartson, who helps steer the business as a director. – Genette and Sheree came into the business on a permanent basis after establishing successful careers elsewhere. Both credit these experiences with helping them transition to leadership roles in a male-dominated industry. – For Genette, working with family means a level of support that non-family businesses simply can’t offer. Because they know each other so well, Genette and Sheree can step in to help one other when needed, often without verbalising the need to do so. – ASTS has benefitted from the formalisation Genette and Sheree have implemented since taking over from their father. Gone are the days of stock paper, which for a company with over 5000 SKUs has been a gamechanger.

Private label wine sales have evolved dramatically in the past 25 years along with market conditions, distribution channels, consumer awareness and interest in wine, and the industry at large, resulting in an environment where control brands will not only thrive, but will grow remarkably in importance and scale in the US. In this talk, we will review a 5 step “RAPID” approach to building a control brand that achieves escape velocity. ***About Jim Kopp*** A graduate of the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration, Jim Kopp successfully operated an array of restaurant concepts before entering the wine business where he spent five years with McDowell Valley Vineyards becoming their National Sales and Marketing Director. From here he opened Rumpus, a fine dining restaurant in downtown San Francisco that earned significant acclaim in both local and national press for high quality food, service, and an innovative beverage program. He also built and opened Bliss Bar in San Francisco, which was named one of the City’s top cocktail lounges by 7 x 7 and In Style Magazines in 2001. Mr. Kopp formed a consulting business in 2000 to assist restaurant, retail, and winery operators in improving their sales, marketing and operations results. His client list included Constellation Concepts, Ritz Carlton Hotels, Kendall Jackson Estates, and Hospice du Rhône. This firm became ACME Wine Marketing in 2002 focused on increasing sales and revenues for quality driven producers of wines and spirits. In 2007, he was hired by Jackson Family Wines to oversee marketing for a variety of wineries and to form, train, and manage a field marketing team focused on the sale of the company’s ultra-premium wines. ***Know more about Jim Kopp*** https://ibwsshow.com/en/speakers/2018... Your import and distribution business, as it exists in a largely capitalist economic environment will exert pressures on you, causing you to react and develop. How you cope and change with those pressures will determine how well you succeed. It’s helpful to start out by looking at the environment you currently occupy and how those pressures become primary motivators to how you run your business. In this session, Bill will make you the MDB (Master of Distribution Business) and cover important touch points of your business and how to tackle one problem at a time ***About Bill Sciambi*** Bill is the Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board, Verity Wine Partners. Born in Philadelphia, he has resided in multiple locations, including New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Nicaragua, Texas and Colombia. He joined that company at its infancy in 1984, helping it grow to a $125M+ annual revenue organization. In 2009 he left Lauber Imports as VP of Sales & Marketing, to start Verity Wine Partners with three other industry professionals and served as president and CEO for the first four years. Verity is now one of the top ten ranked (by sales revenue) wine distributors in New York with more than 50 employees. He is currently Chairman at Verity. They've been giving free coffee refills since 1955 because of Walt and to keep Walt's tradition alive they still continue it. Purchase a cup of coffee (regular, decaf, vanilla or hazelnut) and save your receipt. At other food venues, you can get free refills only as long as you're continuing to dine at the location. You can't come back later for free refills. That's a unique deal at Market House only. Ashley says: We make sure every time we go to Disneyland to get the coffee and it now has become a tradition. I am surprised how many people do not know about it so we love this tip. Keep up the great work on the podcast!!! twitter.com/disgeekpodcast. Check us out on Stictcher!
