“Out of the sources of Halakhah, a new world view awaits formulation”—so concludes Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik's Halakhic Mind, an essay penned in 1944 but only published in 1986. It is the Rav's most philosophically dense work. As such, it is the least understood and least studied even among the Rav’s main constituency—people such as yourself who are readers of TRADITION. Many have found it to be rather opaque. This is unfortunate, given that it is the work in which he sets out his method for “doing” Jewish philosophy; the subtitle is “An essay on Jewish tradition and modern thought.” That's why it was significant that at the recent annual convention of TRADITION's publisher, the Rabbinical Council of America, Daniel Rynhold presented a session to the assembled rabbis and educators offering an overview and “primer” to Halakhic Mind. This brief introduction to the book presents its key claims with the minimum of jargon so as to allow those without any philosophical background to understand what the Rav means when speaks of epistemological pluralism and scientific method, and how these ideas build to the conclusion that “there is only a single source from which a Jewish philosophical Weltanschauung could emerge; the objective order—the Halakhah.” Watch a video of this conversation on YouTube. Professor Daniel Rynhold is Dean at the Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies at Yeshiva University. The conversation was recorded by TorahAnytime at the RCA Convention in Suffern, NY, on May 11, 2026. The post Halakhic Mind appeared first on Tradition Online.

The recent annual convention of TRADITON's publisher, the Rabbinical Council of America, was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the work of our journal of Orthodox Jewish Thought. Our editor Jeffrey Saks had a chance to conduct a session with Itamar Rosensweig, whose “Reconceiving Conceptualism” opens our recently released Spring 2026 issue. The essay is an argument for method in Torah study as part of the pursuit of knowledge. Rosensweig asks if and why the so-called conceptual method (a.k.a. Lomdus) is typically favored in our own learning and teaching because it's somehow more “authentic” and “true”? Saks inquired what Rosensweig set out to do in the essay and touched on pedagogical and practical suggestions for ways to more effectively implement Lomdus and utilize its tools in our shuls and schools. This was of particular relevance to the rabbis and educators in attendance, many of whom raised questions and offered gentle pushback throughout the discussion. In fact, the essay has already generated a healthy amount of response and we hope to be publishing some of that in the near future. Watch a video of this discussion on YouTube. Rabbi Dr. Itamar Rosensweig is a Rosh Yeshiva and associate professor of philosophy at Yeshiva University, a dayyan at the Beth Din of America, and rabbi of the Merion Shtiebel. The conversation was recorded by TorahAnytime at the RCA Convention in Suffern, NY, on May 11, 2026. The post Reconceiving Conceptualism appeared first on Tradition Online.
Speaks in Rockland County to boost Rep. Lawler President Donald Trump, while visiting Rockland County on Friday (May 22) to appear with Rep. Mike Lawler, began testing his midterm message that was ostensibly on the economy. Lawler's district, which includes Philipstown, will be one of the most closely watched House races this November. The event at Rockland Community College in Suffern was meant to promote the tax law Trump signed last year, particularly the quadrupling of the deduction for state and local taxes, which is critical in a high-tax state like New York. Trump called Lawler "fantastic" and mused about how the congressman was a "pain in the ass" as he badgered the administration on expanding the deduction. He pulled Lawler onstage during the event, and the congressman thanked the president "for working with me to deliver a big win" for the people in his district. He said that more than 90 percent of the people in District 17 were able to fully deduct their state and local taxes. During his remarks, the president veered away from the economy from the start, going off on tangents about voter identification, crime in cities, transgender women in sports and "Dumocrats," his new chosen moniker for the opposition party. He complained that toiletries are locked up in pharmacies, making them harder to buy, and polled the audience on what he should call his predecessor, former President Joe Biden. Eventually, he landed on the topic of the speech, telling the crowd that he and his party worked to slash taxes and increase take-home pay, while Democrats opposed the effort at every turn. "I cut your taxes, cut the taxes on workers, families, small business, who are the soul of this state," Trump said. Listing off the provisions of the tax law, the president said: "These are all Republican tax cuts. The Democrats voted against every one of these tax cuts." Also appearing with the president at the event Friday was Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, the Trump-backed Republican candidate for governor. Trump said, "Guys like Mike Lawler, guys like Bruce Blakeman, you put them in, they'll turn it around." The White House has been looking for more opportunities to highlight Trump's economic accomplishments as his approval rating on the economy has slumped. About one-third of U.S. adults approve of how Trump is handling the economy, according to a new AP-NORC poll, down slightly from 40 percent at the start of his second term. Trump had promised to bring prices down, but gas prices have surged this year due to the war in Iran. Lawler is just one of three House Republicans who represent a district won by Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris in 2024. Unlike the other two — retiring Nebraska Rep. Don Bacon and Pennsylvania Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, who's been a critic of Trump policies — Lawler has chosen to embrace the polarizing president in hopes of not alienating Republican voters who support the party's leader. "Look, the people who hate the president — and that's their sole basis for their vote — are likely never voting for me, and you know, obviously, you need to turn out your base, and you need people energized," Lawler told The Associated Press in an interview on the sidelines of the White House congressional picnic earlier this week. "Moreover, I have a record in my district that is one I'm very proud of, and a record that appeals to a broad middle." Lawler, wearing a red ball cap emblazoned with "Mr. SALT," the acronym for the state and local tax deduction he fought to include in the bill, added, "I am confident that I will be reelected on my own merits and my own record." Trump established a SALT cap in 2017 through his Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Last year's law expanded the SALT deduction to $40,000 from $10,000 after arduous negotiations with Republicans, including Lawler, whose district has high local taxes. The law also raised the average tax refund for New Yorkers to more than $3,800, according to data provi...

#419 In this podcast episode, Guy talked with Dana Kippel about plasma as a moldable, "invisible Play-Doh" substance underlying reality that consciousness can imprint, linking it to ideas like the Akashic Field and collective unconscious. Dana traced a brief history of plasma in science from early "radiant matter/ether" concepts to its modern definition as an ionized gas, while arguing plasma was stripped of mystical dimensions and often studied in secrecy. They connected plasma to manifestation and healing, emphasizing that nervous system regulation and belief-system work were necessary for sustaining abundance and changing repeated life patterns. Dana shared her personal catalyst of heartbreak, her meditation "download," and years of trauma-focused therapies, describing how unprocessed trauma could show up physically (e.g., a rash) and resolve when felt through. They also discussed balance between masculine and feminine energies, the reflective nature of experiences and "beings," and practical approaches like neutrality, play, qigong, and meditation, along with Dana's book and classes. About Dana: Dana Kippel was adopted and raised in Suffern, NY. As a child and teen, she overcome bullying, addiction, and sexual abuse. Slowly, she realized she was worthy of trusting and healthy relationships, self-love, and going after her dreams. Dana is a polymath, author, filmmaker, and advocate for mental health and neurodivergence, pioneering the study of Plasma Intelligence and Consciousness. Her visionary work positions plasma as a bridge between dimensions and timelines, reshaping our understanding of perception, potential, and the nature of reality. Her debut book, A New Force: Plasma, Consciousness, and the New Human Potential explores plasma-consciousness synergy—and its implications for the future of humanity. Dana wrote and directed the metaphysical film Reflect, writes metaphysical poetry, and her second science fiction feature is currently in development. Useful for plans and lessons, local educators say When Ryan McConville wanted a fun project for his ninth grade Global History class at Haldane High School, he turned to Gemini, Google's artificial intelligence tool. "I used it as a thought partner," said McConville, a 2003 Haldane graduate who has taught in the district since 2012. "I needed some fresh ideas." He said he asked Gemini for five ideas for how his students could explore Diocletian's decision in 286 C.E. to divide the Roman Empire. One idea was to have students write a newspaper-style investigation of the emperor. "I had them pretend to expose the crisis of the third century and choose whether Diocletian was a hero or a traitor for splitting up ancient Rome," he said. McConville is one of many teachers in the Highlands using artificial intelligence, or AI, for a wide range of tasks, including generating lesson ideas, reducing busywork, creating student worksheets and customizing teaching materials. That reflects a national trend: Last year, 60 percent of 2,232 public school teachers surveyed for a Gallup Poll reported using AI, with a third using it at least once a week. The most frequent AI users estimated that the technology saved them nearly six hours a week. At the Garrison School, math teacher Michael Roman uses the tools in an online service called Goblins, which markets itself as a "math teacher cloning device." His middle school students log into the software on their school-issued Chromebooks, and a virtual teacher provides problems like: "Zoe ran 28 miles this week. Next week, she plans to run 15 percent more miles. If she does, how many miles will she run in total over the two weeks?" When a reporter tried to answer, the virtual teacher said, "I see a 5 on the board. Where did that come from?" The virtual teacher then taught a brief lesson on percentages. Roman, whose said his class sizes range from nine to 17 students, said he likes Goblins because it provides "real-time adaptive feedback" to each student. He reserves the tool for the end of class, after he's explained the lesson, demonstrated practice problems and done small-group work. "It's like an exit ticket: They open up their laptops and try a few problems before they go," said Roman, who has been using the program for two years and will often use it to assign extra study. He said the students like the AI teacher that speaks in Gen Z lingo. "They either think it's fun or cringy," he said. "Either way, they're engaged." At Haldane, Ashley Linda uses AI with students who want additional academic support. She said that she can feed a reading assignment into an AI assistant such as Brisk, a tool designed for teachers, and ask it to modify the text to match a student's reading level. She said that when she is helping a student with a subject outside her expertise, she sometimes relies on AI to get up to speed. But Linda is wary about using AI for her 10th- and 12th-grade English students. "I'm not going to use it to generate a lesson plan or to grade student work," she said. "I don't think AI can make a better lesson than I can." She said she is also wary of relying on a tool she wants her students to avoid. "If I want my students to answer questions, think critically and learn how to write an essay without using AI, I'm also not going to use it," said Linda, who worries about allowing young people to become even more hooked on technology. "A generation of young people has been negatively impacted by screens," she said. Those concerns prompted at least one state lawmaker to propose regulations. Assembly Member Robert Carroll, a Democrat from Brooklyn who chairs the Committee on Libraries and Education Technology, introduced legislation in November to ban the use of AI in elementary and middle schools except for diagnostic purposes, instructional interventions for students with disabilities and administrative and planning purposes. In Rockland County, the Suffern school district requires teachers ...

In this episode I speak with Psychic, Medium, and Animal Communicator... Natalie Lucia Anderson. Natalie and I talk about her previous appearance on this show and analyze the incredible predictions she made for 2023. We then take a dive into predictions for 2024! Natalie shares with us her predictions for 2024, and all that may be in store for our planet.. Listen In!www.natalieluciamedium.comNatalie Lucia Anderson Bio:Natalie Lucia is a Certified and Advanced Psychic Medium, residing in Suffern, NY. She is certified through the "Lisa Williams International School of Spiritual Development."Natalie enjoys her time with her family, including her lovable dogs and cats. Yes, you cannot leave her home without some type of animal hair as a parting gift!Natalie loves to laugh and smile as much as possible as she believes that laughter truly is the best medicine. When spending time with Natalie you will see how she truly finds spirituality and mediumship an honor and vocation. Her goal is to help those experiencing grief and loss, to find happiness and laughter again. Why did Natalie choose mediumship? While she believes that anyone can tune into the spirit world, she says that through life experiences, loss, tragedy, and miracles, she could no longer deny what she was experiencing. At a point in Natalie's life, she was so riddled with grief that she just couldn't make sense of anything. Over time, she realized that she was seeing things, hearing things, and just knowing things. With this, she took her first mediumship course. After, her teacher told her she has so much faith in her and in her ability so she put it out there that now she needed a mentor. Not only did she find her first mentor, not her last, but she found her extended family. With that said, her soul purpose is to give you the gift of knowing there is so more to life than just living. In this episode I speak with Psychic, Medium, and Animal Communicator... Natalie Lucia Anderson. Natalie and I talk about her previous appearance on this show and analyze the incredible predictions she made for 2022. We then take a dive into predictions for 2023! Natalie shares with us her predictions for 2023, and all that may be in store for our planet.. “Your story is as powerful as your antagonist”Today and in preparation for Halloween, The Mexican Celebration of “The Day of the Dead”, and the Celtic New Year of Samhain. we have a UNIQUE podcast episode, as we have Shiva Baum & Radha Baum, a mother and son talking about:- The Presence of the Muse- The spiritual background that supported the muse to exist- An almost fatal car accident- The Power of a worthy opponent- The co-authoring of the book ISABELLA CASTASPELLA, given by spirit that came through - - - Radha Baum and written brilliantly by her friend for over 50 years, Parvati Markus.Parvati Markus has been midwifing spiritually-oriented books ever since she helped edit Ram Dass' classic "Be Here Now.". She is the author of "Whisper in the Heart: The Ongoing Presence of Neem Karoli Baba" (Mandala Publishing, 2022) and "Love Everyone: The Transcendent Wisdom of Neem Karoli Baba Told Through the Stories of the Westerners Whose Lives He Transformed" (HarperOne, 2015). And now she is the co-author, with Radha Baum, of "Isabella Castaspella: The Happy Little Witch and Her Friends." Books she has edited have been published by Hay House, Inner Traditions, Simon & Schuster, Contemporary/McGraw Hill, Lotus Press, and others. She has helped with spiritual organizations (as past President of the Board of the Neem Karoli Baba Ashram and Hanuman Temple in Taos, NM) and events (as a development consultant for the Global Peace Initiative of Women). She is on the Board of Advisors for the Love Serve Remember Foundation. Parvati has an M.A. in Creative Writing from The McGregor School of Antioch University. Her three granddaughters all delight in Isabella Castaspella!Radha Baum: RADHA BAUM has a degree in Early Childhood Education from NYU and worked as a nursery school teacher. She is a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and a Registered Nurse (RN), as well as a licensed acupuncturist and practitioner of various complementary healing techniques. She is D.A.N.-certified (Defeat Autism Now) and has worked with autistic children at the Exceptional Health and Wellness Center/Central Speech, in Hartsdale, NY, in family education, nutritional guidance, and ABA training for children. She has lectured on Childhood Disorders, and Allergies and Nutrition for Children at Exceptional Health and Wellness Center as well as at the Schachter Center for Complementary Medicine in Suffern, NY, where she also lectured on Woman's Health Issues and Chinese Herbal Medicine. Like Parvati, she has studied “story” with Robert McKee. Radha broke her neck (C-2 vertebrae, the one that paralyzed Christopher Reeves) in a severe car accident in early March. She also suffered a broken wrist, deep bruising, and PTSD from the trauma. She is still in constant pain. Both Parvati & Radha knew they had to birth this book into the world to serve all the children ( of all ages) in humanity.ISABELLA CASTASPELLA is a unique book of ten chapters, all in verse. It tells the story of Izzy's struggles with Lavinia LaMeanie, a nasty witch who is always trying to make life miserable for Izzy and her friends. Each of Izzy's friends expresses a particular aspect or behavior of childhood. Messy Tessy has trouble finding her crystal ball because she doesn't pick up after herself; MoonTune doubts his abilities as a musician; Daizy Dew is an artist who tends to be “scatter-brained”; Angel Cruz, the soccer champ, has trouble reading. Then there are the animals: Myron, a super-smart frog, becomes Izzy's pet; Maxine is a very particular cat; and Messy Tessy's pet Bruno, the lovable, ever-hungry bulldog, runs into trouble with mean old Lavinia LaMeanie. And let's not forget Witchie the Wise; even magical little witches need a mentor. Many children face problems like Daizy Dew's ADHD or Angel Cruz's dyslexia, but here they are never labeled as such. Their different ethnicities are also never mentioned. Each is accepted as is and treated with kindness. The friends find their strengths and coalesce into a team that wards off Lavinia's efforts, utilizing more heart than magic. The only one using her magical powers in a mean way is Lavinia LaMeanie, the bully seeking revenge, who in the end is defeated by the power of love. You can find the book here: https://amzn.to/3rQlG50- Follow Radha Baum on IG: https://www.instagram.com/radhabaum/- Follow Radha on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/radhab108/- To Support the Go Fund Me for the healing of Radha visit this link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/mfenb-radha-baum-needs-your-loving-supportVisit https://delaflorteachings.com/faith to receive the “21 Days of Faith in Action Course” as our gift to you.Podcast sponsored by Delaflor Teachings International and produced by Asynd Media.

They realized they had a passion for comedy writing and decided to put on their Circuit Break Comedy Variety Show. After the success of that show, they looked for a new venue to put on a Wednesday night comedy show. The working title for the show that never was was Late Night Hump, and although the show never happened in its original form, Reena, Brendan and Jordan have been creating and producing together under the moniker @latenighthump ever since.
