And, West Coast audience were a little more chill, like  “we don't get carried away.” I mean, wherever you come from, if you're a deadhead, you love the music. -Jeff MatsonListen Now:

For the “Did you Know” Dr. Leah shares what loneliness has to do with addiction and how it relates to the Phellowship's mission. Taraleigh gives fans ways to engage their own way through the “Daily Jam.” Paige's passion for people, music and service has led her to hold a variety of roles in music including a 5-year stint as Marketing Director for High Sierra Music and volunteer positions with The Grammy Foundation/MusiCares. She has donated her time and talents to organizing and/or performing in multiple musical benefits and silent auctions to support the arts, artists, and art-supporters. She is most proud of the vital role she played in creating and establishing The Phellowship, a now 25-year-old organization with over 8000 members that provides a safe space for clean and sober live music lovers at concerts. One of the 4Ls of the JFS is Lineage. The idea of a family tree, where unique sounds originated from and where the sound spectrum lives in today's electronica world. The father of Bluegrass was Bill Monroe, John Lee Hooker Champion Jack Dupree, Howlin Wolf and Muddy Waters, Michael Bloomfield, Nick Gravenites were fathers and sons somewhere in that mix. Sam Cooke and Ray Charles slow cooked soul music was real rhythm and blues along with Chuck Berry who could play in 7/4 it didn't bother him. My guest today is someone who continues the legacy left by Jerry Garcia, Lowell George, Duane Allman and Jimi Hendrix. In unique sound yes, a sound he procured from hours of practice and understanding the rudiments. Once you do that you can play music where you can leave your physical body and feel that love. A love that Wayne Shorter describes as going to the store to get your grandma some milk. My guest came out of the deluge of psychedelia and improvisational live music. From the Both And to the Keystone Korner to modern day Terrapin Crossroads my guest marinates in a sea of live improvisation. It is all the more impressive that he is able to continue to tour in a climate such as this. There are no Bill Graham's or Ralph Gleasons today. How to keep a band together and hone your sound? How to trust and get that feeling that Wayne's talking about when your Grandma asks you to go to the store to get you some milk. My guest will be performing shows at Sweetwater Dec 5th-8th. Thanks for tuning in! Hope you enjoy, and have a great day!Shannon LaBrie on Past, Present, Future, Live! This week, I got to sit down with singer, songwriter and excellent musician Shannon LaBrie. She's made her way from Nebraska to Nashville, with a lot of stops in between. Her unique voice has led to comparisons to Norah Jones, Jeff Buckley, and many others. Her songwriting style has evolved, and her current album, which was all recorded live to tape, has themes of emerging from struggle to a new place of redemption and clarity. As always, she plays a few exclusive tracks, and we share one of them on this episode! Phil and Grahame Lesh on Eric Krasno Plus One. In this episode of Plus One, Eric welcomes Phil and Grahame Lesh. Phil talks about switching from violin to bass when Jerry asked him to join The Dead, and how he continued to find inspiration in the classical bass lines of Brahms and Bach. They also discuss the origin of Phil's truly special music venue Terrapin Crossroads which opened in 2012—its origin, its legacy, and how it birthed The Terrapin Family Band with his son Grahame and others. Dick's Picks 13 on 36 From the Vault. This new episode features Steve and Rob going into Dick's Picks Vol. 13, from Nassau Coliseum on 5/6/81. A glorious return to the Brent era, this is a puzzling installment in the larger volume that features a lot of repeated tracks, before showcasing some stellar jamming in a bonus segment late in the show. Colonel & the Mermaids is a project from Alex Koford, a Bay area native who has been toiling for the most part at Phil Lesh's Terrapin Crossroads the last seven years and has been a part of The Terrapin Family Band amongst other side projects. Colonel & the Mermaids is Alex's chance to create his own music, shape his own band's future and create his own future in the industry and community. That is no small task, but as you'll hear, it's one that he isn't taking lightly and one that he is prepared to invest a lot of time, energy and money. We sat down with Alex who is about to come east for a small tour and our conversation started when I asked what the sonic aim of the band is. If the effort, and indeed the music is any indication, I suspect we will be hearing from Colonel & the Mermaids for quite some time. We spend some time talking with Tim from The Mother Hips about his new solo album “Sorta Surviving’, the accident and how its affected his music and his life, playing at Terrapin Crossroads, coming to grips with one’s mortality, and a whole lot more. This is one of those conversations that’ll make you think.Tim Bluhm began his musical journey while studying at Chico State, where he co-founded the now-iconic Mother Hips, a group the San Francisco Chronicle has hailed as “one of the Bay Area’s most beloved live outfits.” Performing at frat parties quickly gave way to club shows, regional touring, and national buzz, and before they’d graduated from school, Bluhm and his bandmates were signed to Rick Rubin’s American Recordings on the strength of their debut album, ‘Back To The Grotto.’ Over the ensuing two-and-a-half decades, Bluhm would release eight more studio albums with the band as they cemented their status as architects of a new breed of California soul and earned a reputation as festival and critical favorites, sharing bills with everyone from Johnny Cash and Wilco to Lucinda Williams and The Black Crowes along the way. Rolling Stone called them “divinely inspired,” while Pitchfork praised their “rootsy mix of 70s rock and power pop," and The New Yorker lauded their ability to “sing it sweet and play it dirty.”Check out the new single, "Where I Parked My Mind" from Tim's solo album "Sorta Surviving' on Apple Music or anywhere you stream your tunes!***THIS EPISODE IS SPONSORED BY THE AMAZING AND INCREDIBLE SHOP TOUR BUS & DEFYNE PREMIUM CANNABIS!!!!*SHOP TOUR BUS:* Visit shoptourbus.com or @shoptourbus on IG and pick up some wonderfully creative and beautiful Grateful Dead inspired shirts/hoodies.
