Additionally each year, groups of Nordstrom stores compete to win the coveted Presidents Cup. This is an award given to the stores that drove the highest percentage increase in sales volume within their goal group. For 2023 our teams at Hillsdale, Walnut Creek, Palo Alto, Corte Madera, and Valley Fair brought home the win in their goal group, which was markets with 4+ Nordstrom stores. You'll hear excerpts from my visit to three of those stores: Hillsdale, Walnut Creek, and Palo Alto. David Grann, whose latest book is “The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder,” in conversation with Richard Wolinsky, recorded June 14, 2023 at Book Passage bookstore in Corte Madera, California. David Grann is a long-time staff writer for The New Yorker. Earlier books include Killers of the Flower Moon, soon to be a film directed by Martin Scorsese, The Devil and Sherlock Holmes, a collection of essays, and The Lost City of Z. The Wager tells the story of the HMS Wager, one of a handful of British ships sent around Cape Horn to harass the Spanish fleet in the Pacific, which went aground near the Strait of Magellan, and of the crew members who survived (and didn't) during the following year, and of the aftermath back in England. In the interview, David Grann also discusses the origins of Killers of the Flower Moon, and the relationship between all three of his books. Photos: Richard Wolinsky. Sadly, another longtime retailer will depart from Union Square.Anthropologie will close the doors of its 880 Market St. store on May 13. As first reported by SF Gate, the closure leaves the lifestyle retailer without an outlet in the city. Its website points shoppers to its Berkeley and Corte Madera locations. The departure is another blow to the city's famed shopping district, which has lost a total of 17 retailers in the past three years, according to an analysis by The Standard. Companies that cited a reason for closing a Union Square location attributed the move to a reevaluation of real estate portfolios or a shift in business priorities.Support the showSign Up For Exclusive Episodes At: https://reasonabletv.com/LIKE & SUBSCRIBE for new videos every day. https://www.youtube.com/c/NewsForReasonablePeople

How does one go about finding a therapist? Today we talk with Anicia Williams LMFT and Dylan Kersh LMFT and discuss the various pitfalls and strategies behind locating, interviewing and ultimately choosing the perfect therapist for YOU.     Anicia Williams LMFT is a psychotherapist in Marin County, specializing in multicultural issues, trauma, addictions and the relationships that suffer as a result. Licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Anicia received her undergraduate degrees in psychology and sociology from the University of Colorado at Boulder and her graduate degree, a Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology, from Dominican University of California. While at Dominican University, Anicia was honored to receive the Dr. Robert Shukraft Award for Inspirational Leadership. Anicia is an active member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) for the state and local levels. Anicia currently has a Private Practice in San Rafael and has held various titles and positions in the Greater Bay Area, including Program Director, Clinical Director of Outpatient Services, Primary Therapist, Coordinator and Assessment Specialist, and Clinical Residential Care Manager.  Anicia is certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) utilizing Laurel Parnell's Attachment-Focused EMDR, ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), Mindfulness, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and Sensorimotor techniques.  Anicia is determined to help reduce the stigma associated with alcohol and drug addiction and increase awareness around trauma, depression, anxiety and other mental health issues that contribute to addiction. She is committed to helping those afflicted with mental health and addiction issues, as well bringing healing, acceptance and compassion to those who love them. As a Marin native, she is dedicated to increasing local awareness around mental health, restorative justice, and multicultural issues in the community. She has been on the Marin Mental Health Board's Youth Committee and has served as a commissioner on the court-appointed Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission. Anicia currently works with underserved Transitional Aged Youth via Wise Choices for Girls in Marin CIty and as well as bringing Mental Health Awareness to the Hannah Project's Freedom School, located in Marin City as well.  Contact: aniciawilliamsmft.com   Born and raised in the Bay Area, Dylan Kersh LMFT spent over a decade teaching middle and high school students in Oakland, Maui, and Marin County. Although he found this career rewarding, he eventually realized that his greatest asset was the ability to connect with young people and inspire them to do positive things in their lives. This realization led him to go back to school to pursue his lifelong aspiration to become a psychotherapist. After graduating from The Wright Institute in Berkeley with a Master's in Counseling Psychology, he began his career at FamilyWorks in San Rafael, California. While at FamilyWorks, he worked with individuals, teens, families, and couples from a diverse spectrum of backgrounds. He found that with an open heart, a sincere desire to connect, and clinical integrity, he could affect real change in his clients' lives. Concurrently, Dylan has started his own tutoring and mentoring business in Marin County. He has spent the last four years working with students ages 9-18 over a broad range of subject matter from 4th grade math to SAT/ACT prep. In addition, in 2015 he opened my own after school program, West America After Care, in Mill Valley to provide tutoring and enrichment activities to students grades K-8. After completing his training at FamilyWorks and becoming a licensed intern, Dylan moved to the Mind Therapy Clinic in Corte Madera to work with individuals struggling with both severe mental illness and addiction. He also began working at A New Path Marin, a transitional program for men with substance abuse disorders which focused on recovery coaching as well as therapy. There, he cultivated his talent to connect with men and help them to identify and deepen their emotional experience. Dylan then accepted a position as Program Director at Shine a Light Addiction Specialists in San Rafael. While at Shine a Light, He developed a strengths-based coaching program that teaches the tools and provides the support and motivation to help clients build the life they've always dreamed of. In addition, he coordinated and managed the treatment of up to twenty clients dealing with addiction and severe mental illness. He has also worked at the Muir Wood Adolescent Outpatient Program, and is currently running groups at the Foundations Recovery Network Outpatient Program in San Francisco.  As a result of this wide range of professional experience and training, Dylan has created a private practice that offers a unique variety of services: psychotherapy, tutoring, and recovery coaching! This was truly an honor to be able to talk to the founders of Amy's Kitchen , a company born (1987) in our backyards and possibly the largest employer in Sonoma County. Both Brian and I are huge fans of the pioneers in the organic and vegetarian frozen foods market, and we stayed on our best behavior. Waving my Amy's vegetable lasagna box, as a symbol of my loyalty, we talked about everything from how they met, how they started, how they have grown to a $500 million company and what their daughter Amy thinks about the company being named after her. It was extremely interesting (but not surprising) to learn about their commitment to their company's culture and how they have had many offers to sell but are determined to keep the company private. Believing in business rituals, it was fun to hear how they have kept some of their practices exactly the same as they did when they started including continuing to taste every new item developed on the very same table that they started with. We jam packed this show with so much information and could have gone on for hours. Their story is truly fascinating. You can find them just about everywhere in the freezer section of your grocery store. Their newest part of the business, their drive thru can be found in Rohnert Park, Corte Madera and the SF Airport. Pali Boucher had what many would consider a wild childhood. In this podcast, the Rocket Dog Rescue founder takes us on a colorful journey through her early years. Let's just say that her parents liked to party. Pali spent her first 10 years with her mom, moving all around the greater Bay Area (and even Mexico). After her mom died, she and her brother were separated when she went to live with her dad in Corte Madera. It was there that Pali started to realize her love of animals ... and especially, dogs. She ends this episode talking about a short stint in LA, where she discovered punk rock and it saved her life. Check back Thursday for Part 2, when Pali will talk about the nascent punk scene in San Francisco in the 1970s and starting her dog rescue non-profit. She also earned a master's degree from Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars. Her debut novel, The Second Life of Samuel Tyne, was published in 2004 and was shortlisted for the Hurston-Wright Legacy Award in 2005. Despite favorable reviews for her first novel, Edugyan had difficulty securing a publisher for her second fiction manuscript. She spent some time as a writer-in-residence in Stuttgart, Germany. This period inspired her to drop her unsold manuscript and write another novel, Half-Blood Blues, about a mixed-race jazz musician in World War II-era Europe who is abducted by the Nazis as a “Rhineland Bastard“.  Published in 2011, Half-Blood Blues was announced as a shortlisted nominee for that year's Man Booker Prize.> Washington Black tells the story of a young slave in Barbados in the 1840s who is taken under the wing of the abolitionist brother of his master. The novel follows his adventures as he wends his way through the world. Recorded at Book Passage bookstore in Corte Madera, California. Special thanks to Elaine Petrocelli. Many of Wade's interviewees have said that the moment they saw a Bruce Lee movie, it inspired them to go down the path to become a martial artist — and his guest today is no exception. Practical Martial Arts (or PMA for short) is a mixed martial arts dojo, having taught mixed martial arts in a traditional setting since 1993.   In this episode, Mike talks all about how he got started in the martial arts; his training from childhood through college; his life-changing experience attending a Rickson Gracie seminar; his unique dojo, PMA, and the various programs they offer; his upcoming book; and how he has incorporated his training in the martial arts into his personal and professional life.   Key Takeaways: [:44] About Wade's guest, Mike Valentine. EV News Daily - Electric Car Podcast

Well good morning, good afternoon and good evening, wherever you are in the world, hello and welcome to the Sunday 8th July edition of EV News Daily. It’s Martyn Lee here with the news you need to know about electric cars and the move towards sustainable transport.   SWISS CHARGERS BY EVTEC PLUGGED INTO 60KWH NISSAN LEAF   EVTEC (@EVTECfastcharge) - First attempt successful: The #NISSAN LEAF charges with 102 kW. #EVTEC #CHAdeMO #Fastcharging #Electromobility   So it looks like what we talked about yesterday was true, a fast charging rate of 102 kW at the SoC (State-of-Charge) of 32 %. So that would be almost certain that it's the new Nissan LEAF unless they've worked out a way to charge the current 40Kwh battery at twice the speed it's rated at. And considering some owners of the new LEAF are getting 20-30kW on their second rapid charge due to temps, it would be surprising if this wasn't the 2019 model year LEAF. So a recap on the leaked specs, and none of this is official yet. 160kW motor will replace the current 110kW motor. 0-60mph or 0-100kmh will be between 6-7 seconds. The battery capacity will be 64kWh with 60kWh usable. And that should give you a range at least 225 miles, which the Thermal Management System will help with as well as helping with charge rates. The DC Fast Charger will be rated at 100kW and if it's in line with others you’ll be charging at 11kW at home. However, and here it comes, the price is one of the best things about the Nissan LEAF, and it won't be cheap. My prediction is £30,000 before any incentives, that's 34,000 Euro, $52,000 CAD or $40,000 USD.   @philroberts - That looks like a rebranded Delta Ultra charger that we offer, looks strange though as can’t see the Chademo holder in the centre and those units I’m pretty sure are only rated for 62.5kW at the moment on Chademo, I’ll ask the question. To be clear it will do 150kW on CCS just not sure it will do that on Chademo as the specs say 125A @500v (62.5kW) although I know the new Chademo spec is out for upto 400kW. That unit is 300A capable but think that’s only for two chargers at same time eg CCS & Chademo together.   WILL TESLA MODEL 3 DOUBLE THE SPEED OF MODEL S? "There’s a very interesting thread going on right now over at Tesla Motors Club Forum. It’s along the same lines as a recent article InsideEVs published about Model 3 Supercharging rates" reports George Bower: "based on a Tesla EPA document it looks like the Model 3 could be capable of a maximum charging current of 525 amps. as TMC member Zoomit points out, 116 kW is basically the limit of Gen 2 Superchargers. Perhaps we are seeing a charger limit and not a car limit. Maybe the Model 3 is actually capable of charging at HIGHER than 116 kW. If the Tesla Model 3 could hold this charge rate to 50% state of charge, it would imply 180 kW of charging power."   https://insideevs.com/tesla-shipping-model-3-with-2x-model-s-p100d-supercharging-c-rate/   TESLA OFFERS MODEL 3 TEST DRIVES FOR FIRST TIME Tesla started offering test drives of the Model 3 at four Bay Area locations: Dublin-Amador Plaza, Corte Madera, Sunnyvale and Palo Alto. Yesterday Tesla stareted offering Model 3 test drives at four more locations in the region: San Jose, Burlingame, San Francisco and Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto. "The test drives are offered to people who have put down $1,000 deposits on the Model 3. A Tesla staffer will accompany drivers." says The Mercury News.   NEXT PEUGEOT 208 GTI TO GO ELECTRIC? Here's a story I first saw in AutoExpress and now it's in Evo.co.uk where Jordan Katsianis says: "The next Peugeot 208 GTi is likely to feature a pure electric drivetrain when it arrives in showrooms next year. As for the next 208 GTi, while the electric version may not immediately strike us as ideal hot hatch material, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t curious about what an all-electric Peugeot GTi might be like to drive."   UK EV SALES EXCEED 6,000 IN LAST MONTH Here in the UK it's still Plug In Hybrids which are surging ahead of pure BEVs. 1,519 BEVs (up 4% year-over-year) 4,753 PHEVs (up 54% year-over-year) Diesel sales were down -30% in the first half of the year   SEE VOLKSWAGEN'S I.D. R PIKES PEAK RUN FROM A HELICOPTER "This year Volkswagen took its all-electric I.D. R to Pikes Peak and took home the overall record. With Romain Dumas behind the wheel of this 671-hp all-electric race car, the VW managed to run the 12.42-mile circuit in only seven minutes and 57.148 seconds, which was 16 seconds faster than Sebastien Loeb’s 2013 record" according to Autoweek.com: "If you wanted to see what that run looked like, here’s your chance to take a bird’s-eye view. While this isn’t as mind-bending as watching Porsche’s 919 Evo shave a minute off the Nurburgring record, watching Dumas conquer Pikes Peak with only the whirr of electric motors is definitely a different experience."   RELAX, YOUR ELECTRIC CAR WON’T SHORT-CIRCUIT YOUR PACEMAKER This will make you smile. You know we were talking about EV myths, here's one i hadn't heard. "Thanks to a recent study by German scientists, one other question appears to have been answered: Electric cars, they found, won’t interfere with a person’s pacemaker" says UF Health Podcasts: "The team found the electromagnetic strength was highest when the cars were being charged, but there was no pacemaker inhibition, no shocks and no devices needed to be reprogrammed. Electric cars are equipped with shielding to prevent electromagnetic interference with on-board computer systems, which the researchers said could explain the low electromagnetic strength inside the cars. This shielding may also be what protected the heart devices from any interference."     COMMUNITY   @SveinMedhus - Not a single #BEV spoted in Mallorca this week, not even at this charger at Lluc.  We have seen one real donkey and plenty of diesel-donkeys. Our donkey driver did not believe in the new 500 chargers to be paid by the ecotax by 2020 as reported by @EVNewsDaily . I miss #Norway

After adopting an Irish sight hound, her dog Lily, Laura Schenone discovers a remarkable and little-known fight to gain justice for dogs and for all animals. Greyhounds, bred to be the fastest dogs on earth, are beautiful, gentle, and astonishing creatures. Yet for decades, countless numbers of them have been abandoned and destroyed every year once they can no longer compete and win. The Dogs of Avalon introduces us to the strong-willed Marion Fitzgibbon, born in rural Ireland, where animals are valued for their utility. But Fitzgibbon believes suffering is felt by all creatures and champions the cause of strays, baffling those around her—including her family—as she, and a group of local women rescue any animal in need, taking on increasingly risky missions. Kazuo Ishiguro, winner of the 2017 Nobel Prize in Literature, in conversation with Richard Wolinsky, recorded April 1, 2015 at Book Passage Bookstore in Corte Madera, California, while he was on tour for his latest novel, “The Buried Giant.” Over the past two decades, Kazuo Ishiguro has come to be regarded as one of the titans of modern literature. Author of such novels as “Remains of the Day” and “Never Let Me Go,” he was born in Japan but grew up in Britain, and his sensibility as an author lies somewhere between the two cultures. On winning the Nobel, he said, “It's a magnificent honour, mainly because it means that I'm in the footsteps of the greatest authors that have lived, so that's a terrific commendation. The world is in a very uncertain moment and I would hope all the Nobel Prizes would be a force for something positive in the world as it is at the moment. I'll be deeply moved if I could in some way be part of some sort of climate this year in contributing to some sort of positive atmosphere at a very uncertain time.” While the tour was for “The Buried Giant,” in this interview Ish also discusses “Never Let Me Go” and his notions of character, plot and relationship in his works. One and Only: The Untold Story of On the Road (Viva Editions) In celebration of what would have been Jack Kerouac's 90th birthday, we're presenting biographer Gerald Nicosia (Memory Babe), who will be discussing and signing his new book One and Only, about the woman who started Jack Kerouac and Neal Cassady on the journey that inspired On the Road. "This is the missing back-story of the back-story of "On the Road," the mysterious missing woman a lot of us sensed was there but invisible and silent. Until now. Nicosia has given her voice and made her visible, and she's extraordinary. No wonder both Kerouac and Cassady loved her." —Russell Banks, author of Cloudsplitter "One and Only is essential reading for anyone wishing to get the full picture of the Beat Generation. Lu Anne Henderson was Neal Cassady's life-long love and was responsible for the friendship with Kerouac that gave us On The Road. Gerald Nicosia was always a loyal advocate of the women of the Beat Generation, and his remarkable interview with Lu Anne fills in an enormous gap in the story. It shows the vulnerability and insecurities of the main characters, and reveals the chaos of their emotional lives so that Kerouac and company finally emerge as real people! A great book." —Barry Miles, author of Ginsberg: A Biography; Jack Kerouac: King of the Beats; and the forthcoming authorized biography of William S. Burroughs, Call Me Burroughs Gerald Nicosia is a biographer, historian, poet, playwright and novelist. His biography of Jack Kerouac, Memory Babe, won the Distinguished Young Writer Award from the National Society of Arts and Letters and was called a “great book” by Allen Ginsberg and “by far the best of the many books published about Jack Kerouac's life and work” by William Burroughs. It is still widely regarded as the definitive work on Kerouac.  His book Home to War: A History of the Vietnam Veterans' Movement won numerous honors and was named one of the Los Angeles Times “Best Books of the Year” in 2001.  He is currently at work on a biography of Ntozake Shange. Nicosia lives in Corte Madera, California.
