Register for the 3rd Annual Psilocybin Summit: https://psilocybinsummit.comToday on the pod we are humbled to hostA beloved stalwart of the psychedelic renaissance who is the founder and director of Tam Integration, as well as the upcoming Psilocybin Summit, which is a global online event running September 16th to 20th that features a phenomenal fungi-centric congress of mycopreneurs doing big things in the global village, an event not to be missed.Daniel and I have been running in concentric circles for some time now and several of our previous guests here on the pod have implored me to host him, going way back to our very first episode of the pod - I was not disappointed in the least and I truly feel that this is probably the best episode we've ever done here at Mycopreneur - it seems like I say that a lot these days but the funny thing is it's always, always true!Today we're exploring the cultural importance of memes in relation to advancing the psychedelic narrative and also their potential to convey a ton of information in a non-linear, all at once capacity - we're of course covering the psilocybin summit, which I was serendipitously invited to be a part of during this episode, fuck yeah, you're gonna get the 411 on who is presenting at the summit and what some of the topics are, luminaries like Dennis McKenna and Vandana Shiva, in addition to dozens of other presenters who are more concerned with decolonization, equity, and planetary wholeness and vitality than graphs and charts pump and dump monetary schemes... We're dipping into music as a vehicle for transportation across dimensions and you're also going to get the backstory on both of our first ever psilocybin mushroom journeys, and quite a bit more. Buckle in everybody, we're in this together and I have full confidence in you and in our collective ability to heal and thrive in community and to tap into the infinite power of mushrooms to solve problems big and small. Carey Thompson has his roots from the east coast in Virginia and North Carolina. Eventually, he ventured westward, and he found himself in New Mexico. This is where he sought to establish a profound connection with Nature, along with the backdrop of the American southwest. With his new connection to the world, Thompson continued to explore other parts of the Earth, knowing that each place has much to offer. He embarked on a four-year journey to Central America, and he became familiar with the “winds of synchronicity.” He started his art journey in his late teens, with oil paints and he admits that these works were inspired by his “psychedelic forays in nature”. Nature does play a central theme in his works, as he also has sculptural installations in festivals like Burning Man. These initial forays led to arcs and backdrops that reflect a seamless interplay of the life-giving essence of nature and the depths of human creativity. The process of creation is different for Carey. He does not take sole credit for the product that comes out. He acknowledges how entheogens allowed him to open the doorways to enter with his art. The creative process is a journey in itself, and Thompson encourages the viewers of his art to take their own journeys as well, in order to see the creations in their “full glory.” Thompson notes that he experiences a fusion between himself and his creation. A total immersion that transcends art as a skill or craft. He becomes inseparable from this object which he considers as something that “came through him.” His creations are not his own, but he is only the medium so that these works would come forth. Thompson’s “Galactivation” art permeates with abstract renditions, emanating from a central figure. They are visually psychedelic and most would say, trippy, but it sets the stage for a unique experience for the viewer. Galactivation does not seek to draw certain emotions as most paintings do. It seeks to connect with the viewers and lead them to a journey where the destination is unique to each individual. Today, Thompson uses different mediums like paint for glass, LED lights, and modern technology for his paintings and installations.

She has written for several publications including DoubleBlind, OUT Magazine, Flaunt, Lucid News and Lenny Letter.
Holy Sons is a one-man solo band built around Portland songwriter and drummer Emil Amos. Amos is notable for releasing "genre-bending" albums, according to LA Weekly music reviewer Chris Martins, and for being a prolific songwriter; one account in Spike Magazine suggests he has written over a thousand songs. Amos is also a multi-instrumentalist for groups such as Grails and Om and Lilacs & Champagne. Amos was born of the lo-fi home recording movement of the '80s and early '90s. Amos described the mission of his music as "facing your personal reality." Amos said in an interview that, beginning at age sixteen, he used drugs every single day and didn't let up for years. A music critic for The Guardian described him as a prolific songwriter and as having a "great voice". Reviewer Rob Cullivan of the Portland Tribune described Holy Sons' album Survivalist Tales to be an "ode to the dime novels in the early 1900s that peddled the stories of wilderness explorers," and described the music as "sonic wanderings" with "strange song structures." A review in the Portland Mercury described his music as "dark, languid psychedelia" and commented how Amos has "habitually been kept underground" with few live performances up until the last few years. His vocals have been compared to Neil Young but change personalities quite often. Willamette Week described the album Decline of the West as "a varied, meticulously constructed piece of avant-folk that stands.
The work of Jake Kobrin is psychedelic, unusual, dark, beautiful, and elegant. His work seeks to illuminate experiences which Jake has had that are outside of the realm of normal waking consciousness, moving into numinous and visionary realms with natural ease. His work explores the interplay of shadow and light, both in the delicate modeling of the forms of his pictures but also in the character of the subjects he portrays, his work showing a willingness to embrace all aspects of emotion from revelation and peace, to fear and disharmony.

Xavi Panneton approaches his craft with a unique perspective delivered by his history of creating work across many genres. First immersed in the Washington D.C. graffiti and skateboarding scene of the early 90s, Xavi was later a foundational member of the West Coast world of Visionary Art and continues to expand minds as he traverses an evolving aesthetic where design meets the uncharted territory of our collective consciousness. Working primarily in acrylics and aerosol, Xavi wrangles a variety of influences into a single, cohesive whole. His mesmerizing pattern work and alternating use of hard and soft lines evoke meditative states, keeping the viewer grounded in a world of simple beauty. The concept of vibration is seen throughout Xavi’s work. Through masterfully executed compositions of novel shapes, patterns, and symmetries inspired by nature, Xavi aims to connect with viewers by way of harmonic frequencies. Ancestral influences of indigenous cultures are pervasive in Xavi’s work. Here again we find a dynamic tension in his art: Using formal design techniques, Xavi incorporates the old and the new–the seen and the unseen–in order to build a unique visual language which straddles multiple cultures and historical epochs. While committed to the lasting tenets of design theory, Xavi also brings a certain playfulness to his practice and while his work remains sophisticated, there also exists a refreshing accessibility to everything he produces. Xavi is an internationally recognized artist, who has created murals and installations across the world and has painted live alongside of some of the most well-known electronic artists and psychedelic acts on the planet, leaving a transformational mark on every space and community into which he has been welcomed. The entrepreneurial spirit has driven Johnathan Singer from an early age. By 24, he began a career in publishing when he created the socially conscious lifestyle magazine “West Side Life” in Southern California. The experience expanded his connections with a wide range of artists, musicians, presenters and live performance personnel. Today on Mushroom Hour we are graced by the presence of Daniel “Sitaram Das” Shankin. Daniel is the founder of Mt. Tam Psychedelic Integration, which supports individuals who are exploring their consciousness for spiritual growth and transformational healing. He is the proud host of the Mt. Tam Psilocybin Summit which brings together leaders in the field of psychedelic science in a virtual summit for "Four Days Celebrating the Myth, Magic, Science, and Culture of the Sacred Mushroom". The Mt. Tam Psilocybin Summit takes place 9/17/20 - 9/20/20. Mushroom Hour listeners can get discounted tickets here: https://summit.psilocybinsummit.com/tickets/?coupon=hithereI will be moderating a speaker session and will be absorbing all the amazing material being shared!Daniel's path began working at a yoga bookstore, pursuing gnosis from Eastern spiritual traditions like Buddhism and Hinduism. Books like "Be Here Now" were incredibly influential in his own psychedelic explorations and spiritual pursuits. Why do psychedelic experiences and Eastern mysticism seem to blend well together? Do both pursuits aim to take us to the same transcendental plane?Through his work at Mt. Tam Integration, Daniel has extensive experience when it comes to preparing individuals for a psychedelic experience and helping them integrate back into sober consciousness after such an experience. He'll explain the preparatory importance of set and setting (including preparing one's own emotional state) and some of the tools he uses with clients like somatic anchoring. When it comes to integration, we learn how revelatory urges can be acted upon safely and effectively without hurting the people around us.In the noble pursuit of shifting our current culture towards an enlightenment society, Daniel was called to create the Mt. Tam Psilocybin Summit. This conference brings together incredible speakers from around the world and of all different backgrounds. He thought this was one of the best ways he could contribute to the creation of a society based around positive values like love, grace and humility. As psychedelics suffuse into the mainstream, we look at the impacts of forces like capitalism and politics on the integrity of utopian psychedelic ideals. What is the future of psychedelic culture and will the current psychedelic renaissance help bring about an enlightenment society? A childhood playing the clarinet in school orchestras gave Gans a basic music education and an ear for melody. Things started togetinteresting in 1969.“My brother playedguitar, and he set a couple of my tortured teenage poems to music and taught me thechords,” Gans recalls. Thus, “I became a songwriter at the exact same moment I became a guitarist.I think that’s significant: even as I was filling my head with the music that was all around us at the time, I was focusing primarily on developing my own style.”Gansconsiders himself a musical child of, first among many, the Grateful Dead. “To me, that means drawing from a great variety of sources but telling the story in my own unique voice.” After several decades of composing, recording, and performing, he’s become a master at delivering musical moments straight from the heart, soul, and fingertips. “What we make is not just rock & roll,” he sings in “Life is a Jam,” Drop the Bone’s anthemic leadoff track and statement of artistic intent. “We’re teaming up for spiritual entrainment.”Onstage, he conjures a special brand of magic that draws upon the symbiotic relationship between singer and listener. “The best performances,” he asserts, “happen in front of the best audiences.”

The group released two albums before disbanding in 2012, and after a stint performing backup vocals for Iron & Wine, Warren self-released her debut solo album, Fates, in 2013. The album prompted her to tour nationally under her own name, and since then, she’s led a nomadic existence, calling cities across the United States home for short periods of time. Over the past few years, Warren has toured alongside Mitski, Julie Byrne, and Marissa Nadler, but a life on the road hasn’t slowed her output. In 2015, she released her sophomore album nūmūn to acclaim, propelling her to the forefront of artists to watch in the second half of the decade. Warren dedicated the spellbinding collection of acoustically-driven songs to the phases of the moon and to the divine feminine -- forces of great power and consequence that are all-too often overlooked. The following year, Warren announced a twin set of albums released on her own label Spirit House, which promoted a radically inclusive, artist-friendly ethos. Each of the songs on Gemini I corresponds with a song on Gemini II, which debuted later, in 2018. The two albums are in conversation with one another, offering up a character sketch of dueling personalities vying for acceptance. To contrast nūmūn, which was rendered using a simple palate of acoustic instruments, the arrangements on Gemini I and II integrated a wide array of instrumentation and more palpable percussion, furnished with help from a small cohort of Warren’s longtime collaborators. Following the release of Gemini II, Warren embarked on her extensive Plant Medicine Tour, during which she invited local herbalists, farmers, and activists to come and share resources with attendees about alternative remedies. In the spare moments between tour stops, Warren recorded her latest album in studios across the United States. Entirely self-produced, Chaotic Good is Warren’s first album for Wax Nine/Carpark and it is her boldest to date, finding her in a state of transition as she introduces listeners to a new phase of her artistry.

Although someone originally translated the meaning to be something like “the lens that sees many things not usually seen” Scheurman believes the name moreso signifies “magnifying glass." In this way, Scheurman seems certain that the name was bestowed upon him to indicate he was the gringo with big glasses, not some sort of special seer. Santiparro’s first EP of bedroom recordings, Get Well Soon, on FM Dust, was influenced by his early experiences taking part in peyote and ayahuasca ceremonies. After its release, Scheurman relocated from Detroit to Brooklyn, where he helped form a spiritual community whose initiatic rituals informed the concepts explored on his debut full length. Scheurman was also one half of the duo Ka, whose Good Morning Every One caught the attention of Will Oldham who later encouraged Scheurman to release more music. In 2015, Gnome Life released Santiparro's self-produced True Prayer LP, featuring contributions by Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Kyp Malone, and others. Its release was a significant part of Scheurman's escape plan from what had become a classic cult. He moved to Joshua Tree, CA, occasionally touring in unique & intimate settings. Spending 3 months each year in the Peruvian Amazon studying within the Shipibo-Konibo tradition, he wrote the majority of 2018’s The Talon - exploring new sonic territory with the help of producer and collaborator J Ashley Miller. http://folkmed.org http://Santiparro.bandcamp.com

Download In this episode, Kyle interviews Daniel Shankin, Founder of Tam Integration. They cover topics including the Psilocybin Summit, child rearing, and integration practice. 3 Key Points: The Psilocybin Summit is an online conference on the myth, magic and science of psychedelic mushrooms. Psychedelic Integration is really a form of reparenting ourselves. We need to learn to ask ourselves how we can connect deeply without becoming codependent. Child rearing is an important topic. Nurturing a child with care and love is similar to the way we use psychedelics, meditation and yoga for healing. Navigating Psychedelics Trip Journal Integration Workbook Show Notes About Daniel Daniel came up in the psychedelic space in the 90’s Recreational use turned into therapeutic use He explains that as enlightenment called to him, it also called him to do shadow work He said the transformational work began in his 20’s He said there was no community so he used Ram Dass books to help with integration Daniel says that psychedelics made him feel a deeper sense of life, more responsibility in his role on earth, feel more connected, etc. His calling from these feelings led him to practice yoga, open a studio, provide trainings and more “People gain so much by being heard” - Daniel Child Rearing Daniel mentions talking to his wife about conscious child raising The conversation is about how to heal, not just talking about how to raise ourselves so we need less healing “How do I raise a baby with as little trauma as possible?” - Daniel Grof talks about the birth process in his books but kind of stops talking about trauma after the baby is out The baby is designed to be held by the mother, and to put that child in a box with other children in boxes without parents, in a cold and sterile environment is a horrible idea We project our own anti-social tendencies onto babies A baby is meant to have constant connection and attention, and when we give a baby neglect, we wonder why they have addiction, depression, etc. Psychedelic Integration is really a form of reparenting ourselves “How much deep connection can you offer and can you stand? How can I connect deeply without becoming codependent?” - Daniel Attachment and Healing As a yoga teacher for 20 years, he has found that there is a type of reparenting, that it is helping people to learn to help themselves “Caring for people is a good thing to practice, one of our greatest problems is self-centeredness” - Daniel Money isn't the problem, "my money" is the problem Samskara is a subtle tendency of the mind (like an eroded river) The tendency to prove that we exist, or to prove that we are right, is something that the ego promotes It takes energy to tame the ego and recondition ourselves “Am I trying to prove that I exist in order to feel loved?” If our needs are met and we feel safe and loved, we don't need to prove ourselves We tend to look for the quickest and easiest way possible for the least amount of suffering, we look for the quick fix, but there is a lot of work to be done typically It's important to introduce a meditation practice into a psychedelic practice Babies will cry into an endless void because they don't understand time, just like in breathwork or psychedelic sessions, where time is distorted Mindfulness of Enthusiasm Enthusiastic consent is where you can press someone into giving you consent Are they enthusiastic about engaging with you? If not, then don't Learn how to gauge enthusiasm Psilocybin Summit September 19-22, 2019 The 920 Coalition is doing for psilocybin what 420 is doing for cannabis There has never been a conference that is just psilocybin, and never fully online and live It allows people to attend a conference from home There is no venue to pay for, no tickets for travel, making it more accessible The goal is to get as much traditional information as possible Daniel says he's not advocating psychedelics, he is advocating meditation for those who use psychedelics Daniel hopes that with this conference, that he didn't choose the speakers to just spit facts, hopefully this is heart and mind education that helps people feel like there is something possible in their lives that makes them feel greater, and that may or may not include psilocybin Coaching vs. Therapy Some people do not need therapy, they need coaching and accountability We live in a world where our context does not always work to serve us How do we change our context to better serve us? Join immersive journalist Rak Razam and Daniel Sitaram Das Shankin, an integration coach with Tam Integration and Sitting for Psychonauts for a playful dinner discussion in which they discuss the cultural phenomenon known as “psychedelic integration” and the state of mainstreaming psychedelics. Is there a new wave of everyday people switching on to the medical use of psychedelics and if so, how can this wave be culturally integrated? How can modalities like Buddhist Meditation, shamanism, somatic and Jungian Psychology support discussion, guided meditation and psychedelic support services in the community? How can intentions and goals be used in psychedelic journeywork? How can yoga, breath and energetic work be used in preparation, initiation and integration? What recovery practices can be utilized and how can we make sense of our peak experiences and not just return to normal, but raise our baseline? How can we be the better people than psychedelics can give us glimpses of? And can we use the group work of integration circles to establish a true sense of psychedelic community? “First there is a mountain, then there is no mountain, then there is.” For more information see: https://tamintegration.com And please support this podcast and the emergence of new paradigm media by contributing to: https://www.patreon.com/rakrazam , gracias! Psychedelic integration is the process that takes place after a psychedelic journey and is the opportunity to come to terms with the experience as well as apply the insights learned to one's daily life. It's an essential process but is often overlooked by many people who explore the shamanic realms. Too often we go straight back to our lives or ignore the insights that we've gained from the experience. Today I'm joined by Daniel Shankin from Mt. Tam Integration to talk about the integration process and why it's important, as well as the importance and benefit of ceremony and intention around the use of these substances.Learn more about the 6 week online integration intensive at tamintegration.comUse the code "Finch" for $50 off.
