This week on the Niche Cast we update the kiwis involved in Australian NBL finals and preview the opening phase of New Zealand NBL which starts this week. Then we break down the Blackcaps Champions Trophy campaign and how they rank in the global cricket landscape, as well as New Zealand's sporting landscape where the only comparable team is the All Blacks. We chat plenty more kiwi cricket stuff with reactions to the Blackcaps T20I squad named to play against Pakistan and White Ferns beating Sri Lanka in their two ODIs, which now flows into a massive few weeks for New Zealand cricket. Oh and Tom Bruce is the Underground King but don't let that overshadow the impressive youngsters who scored runs in the latest round of Plunket Shield. Chris Wood is cruising with Nottingham Forest along with Marko Stamenic and Tyler Bindon who could soon join him, while Auckland FC are still at the top of the A-League ladder after a 1-1 draw with Newcastle. Wellington Phoenix women held it down with a win while the men suffered a stink loss and we also react to the All Whites squad named during recording. We finish with Kiwi-NRL notes for Salesi Foketi and Xavier Willison, as well as chatting through a NZ Warriors win in NSW Cup and their game vs Manly Sea Eagles this Friday night. Adolf Thornton Jr., PKA Young Dolph was a true American success story. Starting with humble beginnings as a barber and trapper, he defied the odds and became one of the biggest stars in rap while also maintaining his status as an Underground King. In the wake of Dolph's death the city of Memphis (and others) have been flipped upside and rocked with brazen incidents of extreme violence usually leading to death. As the body count continues to rise, the trial for Dolph's killers has begun and captivated world news. Today we gather to discuss the timeline of events and the senseless nature of how all of this tragedy has unfolded. He may draw “The Worst Dudes,” but Tony Gregori is actually one of the best dudes! It's been a cosmic-second since we've checked in with Tony to see what he's been up to and he's been busy.Still proclaimed as “the Underground King” amongst many of his peers, Gregori has been lending his brush-work-storytelling since we last saw him to the Big Five. Welcome to the 6th Round Retro Post-Fight Show. This is the show that digs into the archives and gives you a comprehensive review of classic MMA events, that span as far back as UFC 1. Join Eddie Mercado & Victor Rodriguez as they relive the Bellator 58: ‘Chandler vs. Alvarez’ event this week, complete with results, analysis, and of course a few laughs. As mentioned, this week we feature the Nov 19th, 2011, Bellator 58: ‘Iron' MIchael Chandler vs. Eddie ‘The Underground King’ Alvarez’ event. This event we’re covering today was a jam-packed nine-bout card, which was a mixed bag with a couple subs, a couple KO's, and a few decisions, along with one DQ. The show went down on SPIKE.tv from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL. The main event that night showcased a battle for the Bellator MMA Lightweight Championship with MMA icon Eddie Alvarez facing then up-and-comer Michael Chandler. Battling it out for the title that night, no one expected them to go the entire five rounds, but what they really weren't expecting was a 4th Round Sub from the young undefeated 'Iron Mike'. Chandler was able to secure the ‘W’ via a wicked Rear Naked Choke to the talented Alvarez. Chandler entered the bout with a 9-0 record at this point in his fledgling career, including his recent victory over Patricky Pitbull. ‘The Underground King’ was entering the octagon after a six and a half month break, on a seven-fight win streak, with a record at that point of 22-2. In the co-main event, we watched Hector ‘Showeather’ Lombard quickly put an end to Trevor Prangley, via Punches at 1:06 of the second round. To refresh your memory, at this point #Lombard had a 31-1 fight record, while this was Prangley's Bellator debut, despite a professional fight record of 24-8 at the time... he never fought in Bellator again after this loss. The rest of the card was pretty decent, with a women's bout between Jessica Aguilar and Lisa Ellis, which was preceded by a sub, a KO, a few decisions and that DQ -- which was due to an illegal kick between Herbert Goodman and Jonas Billstein. The venue consisted of Sean Wheelock & Jimmy Smith at the announcers table, Michael C. Williams as the Ring Announcer, with around 269,000 average viewers on Spike TV. Let’s check it out! If you wanna take a look at the card, complete with fight results, it;s right here: MAIN CARD PPV: 9. MAIN EVENT Lightweight Championship: Michael Chandler DEF. In this episode of “The UnBreakables Podcast” we deep dive into the powerful imagination of World-Renowned UnderGround King, Eddie Navas. In this VICTIM to VICTOR interview, Eddie expresses true strength within vulnerability- sharing his journey of being abandoned by his mother at the age of 5 years old in Central America. He was left to fend for himself and experience life on the streets; isolated by 15ft walls, chained, beaten and assaulted. By the grace of God, he was able to migrate to the US at the age of 7. Humble individual embodies the humility and passion of a true UNBREAKABLE. You Can Follow Us:
Valentina Shevchenko returns to recap her incredible performance at UFC 238 against Jessica Eye. With what many consider a front-runner for KO of the Year, the “Bullet” further cemented her place as one of the pound-for-pound best. We’ll discuss the victory in depth, hear Valentina’s reaction to receiving a congratulatory phone call from the president of her native Kyrgyzstan, and discuss the possibility of Shevchenko bringing the UFC to her home country. With rumblings that the UFC wants to book Valentina against Liz Carmouche for July 20th in San Antonio, Texas, we’ll also get Shevchenko’s thoughts on the potential matchup and the likelihood of the bout coming to fruition. Jorge Masvidal is back to give us another classic “Gamebred” interview. Have your lunch trays ready as Masvidal serves up a fantastic combo meal for all our listeners. We’ll review all the drama backstage in London with Leon Edwards, recap Jorge’s sensational KO win against Darren Till, and discuss all the popularity he’s gained since then. The grappling match against Anthony Pettis to benefit a charity close to Masvidal’s heart, and the looming showdown against Ben Askren at UFC 239 on July 6th, “Gamebred” pulls no punches and breaks it all down for us before he “glides up on out of here.” Eddie Alvarez joins us to preview his upcoming scrap against former champion Eduard Foloyang on August 2nd in Manila. “The Underground King” is no stranger to setbacks and overcoming the odds both in and out of competition, and Alvarez views this opportunity against Foloyang as a chance to prove his doubters wrong yet again. We’ll get the inside scoop on the horrific eye injury Eddie sustained back in March for his ONE Championship debut, and why he believes the loss is just a typical pattern on his path to another title. Alexander Volkanovski closes out this episode with a recap of his performance against legendary featherweight Jose Aldo last month and detail the scary blood infection that almost led to an amputation. With that near-tragedy behind him, Alex is now solely focused on the being next in line for the 145 pound title. We’ll get his thoughts on being snubbed for the title shot in favor of Frankie Edgar, and how Alex expects Edgar to do against Max Holloway. Volkanovski also plans to be ready should either Edgar or Holloway succumb to injury before the fight, and the UFC has officially put him on standby. All that and much more! Now that the Cardinals have hired new head coach Kliff Kingsbury, Paul Calvisi, Darren Urban and Kyle Odegard consider what Kingsbury might do to the offense, how it could impact QB Josh Rosen and why in a world of insta-reaction, patience is a virtue.
I’m dana blouin and today we are talking about The debuts of Mighty Mouse and The Underground King in ONE Championship. By now just about everyone knows that ONE Championship has announced the first matchups for Demetrious Johnson and Eddie Alverez which are both slated to fight on their first ever show in Japan, entitled “A New Era” on March 31st next year. Which was already a stacked card before they added DJ and Eddie to it. Let’s kick it off with Eddie Alvarez whos last fight had him suffer a KO defeat to Dustin Poirier and he’s only tasted victory in a single outing in his last four fights. That being said he is a former UFC champ and has been fighting exceptional talent for years. His first opponent in ONE will be 12 and 4 Timofey Nastyukhin, who is coming off a first-round KO loss to Saygid Arsianaliev earlier this year. I wouldn’t call Timofey a top tier fighter just yet in his career, he has notable wins over Rob Lisita and Eduard Folayng, but he hasn’t put together a body of work that would make me think he is ready for Eddie Alvarez at this juncture. That doesn’t mean he’s hands down outmatched here, he’s at a point where this could be the win that shoots him into that top tier. He’s got all the tools, we just need to see if he can execute against someone of Eddie's caliper. We’ll find out in March. Now, that brings us to DJ. And this is where we have to jump into a much more detailed conversation. Now Demetrious Johnson might be coming off a loss to Henry Cejudo, But he is still considered by many, myself included, to be one of the greatest fighters to ever strap on 4oz gloves. The things he accomplished at 125lbs in the UFC, against the best in the sport are amazing. So no matter who he faces first it’s going to seem like an unfair fight. But when I see he is facing 10 and 3 Pancrase veteran Yuya Wakamatsu I have to scratch my head. I understand that ONE probably doesn’t want DJ to jump right into the title picture, but he has to be in that top tier right off the bat. I was a bit surprised that he wasn’t matched with Danny Kingad who actually handed Wakamatsu his most recent loss. Or the fight I really want to see would be against former Flyweight champ Karait Akhmetov. Who is an absolute beast. Now that is the fight I think everyone who follows Asian MMA wants to see in ONE Championship. Unfortunately, I have to bring this up, but one of the things that will always be a concern with DJ fighting in ONE Championship until it’s addressed is that his coach, Matt Hume is also the matchmaker and VP of Operations for ONE Championship, that is a clear conflict of interest. I’ve yet to hear anything form ONE on if they will be putting a system in place to ensure that Matt Hume isn’t involved in any of DJs matchmaking or any other aspect of his fights, and I reached out to ask that question to several people at ONE and they basically told me it’s not something they are addressing at this point. To be clear, I’ve never observed anything from Matt Hume that would make me think there is something underhanded going on or that there would be. The few times I’ve met him he’s been great, and all the people I know who work with him on a regular basis at ONE have nothing but positive things to say about him. But that conflict of interest is still a reality that ONE
Eddie Alvarez joins us for an in-depth conversation regarding his recent move to ONE Championship. “The Underground King” discusses his reasoning for parting ways with the UFC, his goal of capturing every major title in MMA, and how moving to a company with the values of ONE Championship is like a breath of fresh air. We'll also get Eddie's thoughts on potential matchups, the upcoming lightweight tournament, moving up in weight under the company's hydration protocol, breaking into new markets, and all that means for expanding his already well-known brand. STREAM or DOWNLOAD On this prelude to the Halloween Special Mista Montana and Menace do this: The world famous DJ-JS-1 sat down to discuss his new album and the lack of authenticity artists of today claim to have using social media. "It Is What It Isn't" boasts an impressive line up of over 45 artists and a total of 21 songs, many of which become the subject of discussion in a revealing interview. Hear the making of such tracks as "It Is What It Isn't", "Whatever It Takes", "Soo Real" among others and find out why a planned song with Akrobatik and Jeru The Damaja didn't make the album. Will JS-1 and OC collaborate for a full length project one day? Listen and find out. Author Brian Coleman shares his technique of putting together "Check The Technique Volume 2", his third book in a series, with a detailed history of classic Hip Hop LP's coupled by track-by-track break down of the songs by the artists themselves. In an attempt to get closer to the fly on the wall experience of documenting some of these albums we talk the process of exploring albums such as "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper", " A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing", "Funcrusher Plus", "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx" and much more! Apollo Brown takes to Conspiracy Worldwide Radio to discuss and promote his new collaborative LP with Ras Kass "Blasphemy", breaking down the making behind several of the LP's tracks and inspiration for them. We also touch on his many upcoming projects, which will include a compilation, a "surprise" EP with a Mello-Music artist, a track with KA and more. Viper Records' Hasan Salaam joins us to celebrate the final chapter in his trilogy, namely, "Life In Black And White" and explains why it reflects a feeling of a life as opposed to a moment like his other projects. We also touch upon the inspiration behind the Immortal Technique assisted lead single "Jericho", politics, working with producers in the UK including CWR affiliate Cross-Bone-T, the future of Viper Records and more. Genesis Elijah joins us to publicly detail the until now largely private process behind his quadruple EP "Private Moments In Public". We talk and explore the conception behind the project, which he reveals was initiated by an argument with his girlfriend, the power of social media, experimentation, working with Fliptrix for the track "The Return", recording "Underground King" remix and more, including a forthcoming project with Brown Bag All-Stars producer The Audible Doctor. The ever quirky Busdriver makes his debut appearance on the show and walk's us through the creation of his latest opus "Perfect Hair" and speaks of ambitions of working with Matt Groening. We also talk working with Open Mic Eagle, Danny Brown, Hellfyre Club and more. AND THAT'S NOT ALL!
