You know why the story of the woman at the well in John 4 is so good?  It's because Jesus knew exactly who this woman was before he ever met her.  He knew all the things she had done.  All the husbands (and not husbands) this woman had had.  And he talked to her anyway.  I argue that he passed through Samaria just to speak to this woman.  This might even be more significant than all the other morally questionable people he associated with.  Why?  Because she was not a Jew. There wasn't a lot of talk about the environment in Tuesday's presidential debate, except for one hot topic: fracking. We fact check the candidates' claims about the issue. Some people who live along Indian Creek in West Virginia had pristine well water, but that's changed they say, due to mining. Researchers in western Pennsylvania are soliciting help to learn more about invasive spotted lanternflies. Plus, a new analysis finds state laws do not protect students from lead in school drinking water, and the Altoona school district responds to its failing grade on lead. Meanwhile, more than a hundred school districts across Pennsylvania will receive state funding for environmental repairs. Support our journalism. This work doesn't happen without you. Together, we dissect the intricate workings of well construction, the mechanics behind pumps and pressure tanks, and the external factors that can leave your taps dry or your water pressure wanting. You'll hear a tale of how a mining operation once swallowed up a family well, underscoring the vital importance of regular well maintenance and the often-overlooked limitations of home inspections when it comes to these hidden water sources.Navigating well pump malfunctions can feel like a journey through uncharted territory, but fear not—we're mapping out the troubleshooting process with stories from the trenches. Learn the unmistakable red flags of pump failure and gain practical strategies for restoring flow to your faucets, all while weighing the true costs of repair versus replacement. As we reminisce about the switch from Lauras tumultuous well water past to the tranquil shores of municipal water reliability, you'll find yourself grateful for the simple luxury of consistent water pressure and ready to conquer any well system woes that come your way.Support the Show.To learn more about Habitation Investigation, the Two-time Winner of the Best Home Inspection Company in the Midwest visit Home Inspection Columbus Ohio - Habitation Investigation (homeinspectionsinohio.com) Schedule online if you need a home inspection or related services. Today we have the great pleasure of talking with Ned Hall, a philosophy professor and generally “wicked smart” guy who helps us think about quality. Ned teaches us how to think like philosophers as we address questions about the quality of objects such as watches, and confront questions like: how do we assess quality? Should this be through a single question, or set of questions? What are the things that make a watch or another object high quality? What is the role of direct human attention and connection with an object and experience in understanding quality? The conversation with Ned grows out of some of the conversations we have had on the podcast about Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. Last spring, after talking with Mark Richardson, I set out to find the pump at the rest stop where, in 1968, Robert Pirsig and his son took a water break on Highway 55 just outside of Minneapolis. The stop is still there, but the pump is not, and after some research with the relevant municipalities, it seems reasonable to conclude that the pump was removed due to the health concerns from natural wells, and it was melted down for scrap. Given this fate, we recognize the pump and its place in philosophical history with the poem “Well Water” by Randall Jarrell, read by writer, educator, and friend of the Dogwatch Jim Mahoney.
