On the Time Lash: The College Years opens with a discussion of 2017's The Pilot and the unfinished 1980 serial Shada. In other words, it's Joy Division and cheap lager v.s bicycles and acapella choo-choos. Is The Pilot really a fresh start? Who or what influenced Steven Moffat's re-imagining of the 12th Doctor as an educator? What happens when you add orange juice to Vodka and Coke? Just what is the definitive version of Shada and what the bloody hell does Kylie Minogue have to do with all of this? Also: The Degsestial Funmaker pays a long overdue visit to launch a new series of Degsey's Where Did it Come? Game, Ben and Mark ponder when Doctor Who last excited them and Ben shares quite a moving story about the personal connections he has to Douglas Adams' great unfinished work. The Snake Brothers hang out with Seriah Azkath, from the Where Did the Road Go podcast, to talk about an idea he's been working on for a while now. The boys discuss poltergeist activity, bigfoot, UFOs, time loops, ghosts, EVP, Point Pleasant and the Mothman, Men in Black, Near Death Experiences, parapsychology and ESP abilities, and retrocausality, and how all of these might in some way be either part of the same phenomena, or be multiple phenomena resulting from the same underlying cause. A big part of this is Seriah's point that many of these seemingly disparate types of events have similar features; for example, the kinds of things that people call "poltergeists" when they happen in a house, are attributed to sasquatch when they happen in the wilderness. A glowing light floating around in an abandoned building is a "ghost", while a glowing light in the sky is a "UFO". Retrocausality is a big part of the function of the Mechanism that Seriah is proposing....that events in the future can have an effect on the present, through the medium of consciousness. We discuss how this has been demonstrated multiple times in different studies, and how this might tie together a lot of incidents that are attributed to different types of experiences.

Ben and Mark are joined by rival Scottish Doctor Who podcast The Polis Box to discuss 'The Zygon Invasion/Inversion'. Will the Lash Lads put aside their differences with Lee, Dave and Cameron as they sit down and talk? Well, yes, quite easily actually. Under discussion: The slightly queasy messaging of integration, the T word, whether or not the Zygons are more than just a one-shot villain, repeated public alien incursions, the dubious Doctor Disco, 'heeling it up' and some snark about spin-off media. Also: A Fatal Five Way Degsey's Where Did it Come? Game and a skip full of pubes.

Ben and Mark begin a two part episode all about the price of immortality with a discussion of 'The Girl Who Died' and 'The Woman Who Lived'. Did the Doctor know Ashildr would die? Isn't it fine to just sometimes cast the same actors again in larger roles and never refer to it? Is Maisie Williams any better in 'Game of Thrones'? We've never watched it. Is the Me character nothing more than an obfuscating Hybrid red herring? Also: Gallows humour, living through the violent establishment of European society, comedy and flippancy in Doctor Who and two exciting rounds of Degsey's Where Did it Come? Game. WARNING: MAY CONTAIN STAR TREK

It was the 5th of July and all round the house, not a creature was stirring except for Ben and Mark as they discussed the seasonal special 'Last Christmas' and the Season 20 story 'Snakedance'. Under discussion: Ordering VHS's in Boots the Chemist, cribbing on old movies, an incendiary and 25 year old interview with Steven Moffat, How good 80s Doctor Who can be when it plays to the strengths of it's leading man, pub toilets and sexual harassment as a character quirk. And it's the grand finale of Degsey's Where Did it Come? Game S8! Who will win the coveted star prize?
Great NT Profiles Part 12Homework Tips Checklist for ParentsPHARISEES AND NICODEMUSIntroductionØ Related Scriptures:Ø Pharisees (Matt. 3:7; 5:20; 12:38; 15:12; 16:1-6; 19:3; 23:13-39; Luke 7:36-50; 15:1-9; Acts 15:5; 23:6)Ø Nicodemus (John 3:1-21; 7:45-52; 19:38-42)• Most definitions are (unfortunately) based on New Testament portraits: “Pharisee: strict in doctrine and ritual, without the spirit of piety, laying stress on the outward show of religion and morality, and assuming superiority on that account; hypocritical, formal, self-righteous.”• The name (probably) comes from P-R-Sh, a root meaning, “to separate”.• The movement was not an inherited one (like priest or village elder) and therefore, cut across class status to some extent.Popular Pharisees• Paul (Philippians 3:5-6)• Josephus• Hillel and Shammai• NicodemusPharisee Politics• According to Josephus, they were heavily involved in Hasmonean politics.• Some scholars suggest that Jesus opposed the Pharisees because the party was agitating for revolt against. There is little evidence for this position.• The Pharisees of the first century show little political interest. Jesus chose not to condemn the Pharisees for militarism.• However at the time of the revolt against Rome, the Pharisee Simon ben Gamaliel, along with several colleagues supported the rebels.Pharisee Orthodoxy• Pharisees may be characterized by a distinctive way of living, a strong concern for orthopraxy and orthodoxy, and thus social involvement that promoted revival and reform.• Matthew 23 connects them to Scribes and are the “correct” interpreters of Torah.• Josephus says the Pharisees are considered the most accurate interpreters of the laws.• Rabbinic sources suggest that the Pharisees were interested in extending the sanctity of the Temple to the home.• How laws and beliefs were to be implemented differed among Pharisaic groups. There were divisions in the movement, the most famous being between Hillel and Shammai.Pharisee Motive• Pharisees may be characterized by a distinctive way of living, a strong concern for orthopraxy and orthodoxy, and thus social involvement that promoted revival and reform.• A new world was kept at bay by the sinfulness of their contemporaries, so the Pharisees cherished their elite spiritual status and treated “sinners” with shame, exclusion, and contempt.Where Did the Pharisees Go Wrong?• Jesus’ had the strongest words for the Pharisees (cf. Matthew 23:1-39)• The Pharisees had become obsessed with the Old Testament Law as a means of controlling the masses.• The Pharisees were controlled by fear. How Religious Fear Works• Belligerence in theological discussions is a reaction to a deep fear—typically unperceived—that one’s metanarrative is under threat.• People fight about their views of God because they are afraid of the consequences of being wrong. Being wrong about God destabilizes their way of looking at the universe and their place in it.• When engaged in potentially theological dialogue, rather than fear we need to trust that God is bigger than our arguments, our intellects, and sacrosanct theological systems.Nicodemus• Mentioned only in the Gospel of John, Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a member of the Jewish ruling council.• His encounter with Jesus is recorded in detail in John 3:1-21.• Clearly interested in what he heard about Jesus, Nicodemus decided he should talk to him alone and came to see him under the cover of dark, probably for fear of the comments from his colleagues were he to come openly.Born Again• It’s an expression that means born from above or born from the top.• It means to start over from the beginning.Eternal Life• Ainious zoe is used 17 times in the Gospel. An aion refers to a period without a definitive end.Though the term “eternal life” remains somewhat mysterious, it probably means to know and experience the life of God (see 17:3) which death cannot destroy. It can also refer to the life of the age to come.Additional References: John 7:50-51; 19:39

Ben and Mark are joined by friend, regular contributor and host of 'I Hate Doctor Who' - Richie Morgan, as they discuss to Egyptian themed stories - 'Mummy on the Orient Express' and 'Pyramids of Mars'. The conversation takes in ageing, death, and health....and that's just in the introductory preamble! Under discussion: Balancing sterile science with atmospheric period detail, the magic of Tom Baker and Lis Sladen, the enduring horror of the Mummy, the real-world horror fun you can have with 'Mummy on the Orient Express' and how one scene in 1975 sets the rules for the show going forward. Meanwhile, Ben takes the pulse of youthful music. Also: Jagger Facts! A controversial round of Degsey's Where Did it Come? Game! The nephew of Sutekh! On this episode of Expanded Perspectives the guys start the show off talking about Cam's recent remodel of his bathrooms in his house and the return of baseball up in Oklahoma. Then, they get into some news about an unknown green eyed bided in Kentucky, another Glimmer Man sighting from North Carolina and a sparsely furred humanoid in Kentucky. After the break we speak with Joshua Cutchin and Timothy Renner about their new book "Where the Footprints End: High Strangeness and the Bigfoot Phenomenon, Volume I: Folklore". Our forests seem to be hiding something much more complex than an undiscovered gorilla. Bigfoot may be howling from a lonely mountaintop, but the bigfoot phenomenon is whispering secrets... if we will only listen. Eyewitnesses, investigators, and cryptozoologists worldwide contend ample evidence exists supporting the survival of large, hairy, apelike creatures alongside mankind today, lurking in the wilderness. By all appearances, these beings seem wholly natural, interacting with their surroundings and leaving behind hair, blood, droppings, and, of course, footprints. Yet despite their apparently physical nature, bigfoot and its hairy hominid kin consistently appear mired in High Strangeness—the peculiar, ineffable, and nonsensical absurdities so often encountered in paranormal phenomena. Some sightings seem more consistent with mythology than biology. Bigfoot often present supernatual attributes, like luminescent eyes or the ability to pass, ghostlike, through structures. Anomalous lights are regulalry seen in areas of frequent sasquatch activity. Footprints persistently, if rarely, display odd numbered toes, and—most bafflingly—bigfoot trackways suddenly terminate in the middle of open, untouched terrain. In Volume 1 of Where the Footprints End: High Strangeness and the Bigfoot Phenomenon, authors Joshua Cutchin and Timothy Renner carefully examine not only the intersection of hairy apemen with global folklore—of poltergeists, faeries, extraterrestrials, magic, witches, ghosts, and archetypal women-in-white—but also question the fundamental assumptions underlying contemporary cryptozoological beliefs surrounding bigfoot. Joshua Cutchin: Is a North Carolina native with a longstanding interest in Forteana. He holds a Masters in Music Literature and a Masters in Journalism from the University of Georgia, and currently resides in Roswell, Georgia. He is the author of three books: 2015's "A Trojan Feast: The Food and Drink Offerings of Aliens, Faeries, and Sasquatch" (translated into Spanish as "Banquete Troyano"); 2016's "The Brimstone Deceit: An In-Depth Examination of Supernatural Scents, Otherworldly Odors, & Monstrous Miasmas"; and 2018's "Thieves in the Night: A Brief History of Supernatural Child Abductions." All are published by Anomalist Books. Joshua is also a contributor to Robbie Graham's 2017 collection of ufological essays "UFOs: Reframing the Debate," as well as David Weatherly's 2018 Sasquatch collection "Wood Knocks: Vol. 3." Cutchin is also a published composer and maintains an active performing schedule as a jazz and rock tuba player, having appeared on eight albums and live concert DVDs. Joshua has appeared on a variety of paranormal programs discussing his work, including Coast to Coast AM, Mysterious Universe, Binnall of America, and The Gralien Report. He can be heard on the weekly podcast Where Did the Road Go? and maintains an online presence at JoshuaCutchin.com. Timothy Renner: Is an illustrator, author, and folk musician living in Pennsylvania. His illustrations have appeared in the pages of various books, magazines, fanzines and comics as well as on many record and CD covers. Since 1995, Timothy has been making music both solo and with his band, Stone Breath. Timothy is the creator of "Strange Familiars", a podcast concerning the paranormal, weird history, folklore and the occult. He makes regular appearances on the paranormal radio show, "Where Did the Road Go?",

INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: None Have you ever wondered how our modern commercial food system got to be so chock full of additives in the first place? There’s something like 10,000 chemicals approved for food use. And how does a new food additive get approved for use? The answers to those questions are both historical and complicated, and I will attempt to tackle them in this episode. Fort Dearborn at the beginning of the War of 1812 . . . is it a Battle or a Massacre? How should we, in the twenty-first century, talk about the events that occurred on Chicago's lakefront on August 15, 1812 -- a month-and-a-half after the declaration of war? How do we describe what happened to the column of approximately 100 soldiers, farmers, women and children in Indian Country that abandoned Fort Dearborn, mostly on foot, for Fort Wayne when they are attacked by approximately 500 Native Americans? Join us in this episode of the Windy City Historians Podcast for the second half of our interview with history professor Ann Durkin Keating, Ph.D. and The First Star -- a reference to the first star on the Flag of Chicago. Does William Wells actually get his heart carved out to be eaten by the victors? Find out about this and much more as we discuss the final events, implications, art and language surrounding Chicago and aftermath of this infamous attack in Chicago in 1812. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we have putting it together! Engraving of the Battle of Fort Dearborn by S.C. Ben and Mark go back to where it all began, with the very first multi-Doctor story 'The Three Doctors'. After a very special edition of Degsey's Where Did it Come Game, they try to define the indefinable magic of Doctor Who by looking at this most comforting slice of nostalgia. Under discussion: Trying to understand the reverance with which each later Doctor holds the earliest incarnation, John Levene's finest hour, Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee's hugely entertaining rivalry and an appreciation for those fabulous Bristol boys - Bob Baker and Dave Martin.
