The programs will continue to be available online, so please share them with your acquaintances, friends, and family to continue to spread the knowledge of how many of the giant food manufacturers have hijacked the American food system and robbed many people of healthy lives. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: None In this second episode that reviews toxic additives that wind up in our food supply, I look at three more examples. In California, these additives were banned in 2023 as part of the California Food Safety Act since the federal government was dragging its feet. Since then, the FDA has acted on several petitions to extend the bans nationally. Other toxic additives that have not been banned are briefly reviewed to expose the extent of the problems. Most of these dangerous additives have been utilized in the American food system for many years. Many of us have been exposed to them since birth. Lastly, I make a significant announcement about the Food Labels Revealed podcast. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: None Throughout both modern and ancient human history harmful ingredients, intentionally or unintentionally, have wound up in commercial foods. On the intentional side, that practice is called swindling or introducing improvements to make products better. Either way, the object is to make more money. On the unintentional side, the addition of poisons to foods is accidental. In this episode, a few examples of the former are examined taken from the early 20th century. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: None Since the beginning of the FLR podcast in 2016, I have focused my attention on the ingredients of industrialized foods and also reported on the nutritional content of those foods. A great deal of time was spent on examining and critiquing ingredient and nutrition facts labels as regards health implications. Although that job could never be completed given the continual release by food companies of new products with novel food additives, I have chosen to take a break from that podcast content and pivot towards historical developments that have led to the current state of our food system. How did we get to such an unhealthy food system that most Americans rely upon today? This episode introduces the pivot which will officially begin in the following episode. Welcome back to ParaPower Mapping. The Boston Brahmin Watch Bus is on the road again today—it's a surprise double header. Support the show & access the Premium Feed by subscribing: patreon.com/ParaPowerMapping ! We first unpack the mythic & historical antecedents of Bryan Johnson's alchemical vampirism & elite pursuit of the Elixir of Life, including an examination of the Rosicrucian Royal Society & Robert Boyle's involvement in the very first blood transfusions, the Epic of Gilgamesh, & examples from Ancient China, Hindu scriptures, etc.; from there, we discuss Richard & Isabella Ingalese, a husband-wife duo of New Thought gurus (as well as a corporate mining lawyer & psychic) who authored numerous Kybalion-esque self-help texts and then relocated to Southern California to attempt the Great Work, eventually attesting in an interview w/ the Occult Review that they'd succeeded in attaining the Red & White Stones of the Philosophers, also claiming that they personally knew alchemists living in SoCal that were 600, 400, & 200 years old; the Ingalese's pyramid scheme "Renewal Club"—which may have been a coven of alchemical vampires—that mirrors AMORC & future New Age-y California cults; we continue exploring Stavish's history of American alchemy, which serves as an introduction to AMORC & AMORC's non-accredited Rose + Croix University; we discuss founder H. Spencer Lewis's publicity stunt where he performed the "transmutation" of zinc into gold in front of an audience of AMORC grandmasters & newspaper journalists, which supposedly gave him 2nd & 3rd degree burns on his hands; we mention the California magus Frater Albertus, an AMORC lab alchemy graduate who would go on to proselytize the "life-enriching" aspects of alchemy, briefly playing a clip of a presentation he gave at UC Davis on alchemy at the exact same time that Timothy Leary was signing autographs in another hall on campus; from there, we transition to working our way through the first few chapters in Richard Spence's Secret Agent 666, investigating the evidence of Crowley's espionage work, his early recruitment through the Primrose League & a "gunners" cadet corps in Worcestershire, spying interpretations of his varied & globetrotting travels in the late 1890s & early 1900s, his involvement in securing oil in Mexico & initiation into a Mexican Scottish Rite Masonic order, the possibility that Crowley met Rasputin (and may have been in Russia at the same time as Gurdjieff), the likelihood that sexpionage & sexual blackmailing may have made up a significant part of Crowley's toolkit, the strong possibility that Crowley was assigned to infiltrate both the Golden Dawn & OTO to surveil enemy elements of the Crown & British Empire establishment in both orders, the fact that German agent Theodore Reuss was likely trying to turn Crowley by recruiting him into the OTO, the numerous intelligence officers that were members in Crowley's own order Astrum Argenteum, and finally, the cover & motives of Crowley's arrival in NYC aboard the Lusitania at the onset of World War I (a British armament or finance business deal, surveillance of German occultists, and the tracking of Irish republican Sir Roger Casement). Pt. I of II. The second is dropping momentarily. Songs: | Randy Newman - "Spies" | | Henry Mancini - "Peter Gunn Theme" OST |

INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: none Since 2018, like a string of firecrackers, plant-based burgers have been exploding in the fast food industry as one drive-thru after another adds some version to their menu. McDonald's held back probably waiting to see how the market would respond. Although McD's was testing a product in Europe, they waited a long time to bring it to the USA. Now they're playing catchup (not ‘catsup') with their new product called the McPlant burger based on a Beyond Meat product. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: None Since this episode comes at the end of 2021, I decided to put together a retrospective program which has highlights from the first 20 episodes, including such topics as GRAS, nutrition facts labels, Lunchables, gum, ice cream, and bread. So, if you're a recent listener, who never tuned into the early days of the podcast, or a listener who would like to review some useful educational information and history about the processed food industry, then I hope you'll enjoy this episode. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: Apocarotenal When I begin to entertain the thought that fast food couldn't get much worse than it already is, some restaurant chain comes up with some new, ultraprocessed concoction that greatly exceeds the norm. A little over a year ago Wendy's introduced the “Big Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger Triple,” apparently part of the "Made to Crave" menu, i.e., sandwiches designed to satisfy food addictions. In this episode I explore the nutritional profile and the ingredient composition of this health-threatening sandwich. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: None The Nutrition Facts Labels on packaged foods have been with us for over 30 years. In 2018, the Food & Drug Administration issued a minor overhaul which has been slowly implemented by the food industry since that time. What changes occurred? What was lost? What was gained? What is still missing? This show is dedicated to re-exploring the Nutrition Facts Label. If you're a bit rusty on how to use it or never really got up to speed with it, this episode of FLR will give you an educational boost. Be prepared for some facts and figures! About a two minute episode to test a new pair of bone conducting earphones. They make it easier to play a guitar then using the wired earphones for the episodes. The Peter Gunn theme is also used in the Blues Brothers movie and that is what you hear in this short episode. Catch me on a Monday for the regular episodes. Cheers Jack

INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: None Some of you, maybe most of you, have gotten wind of the relatively new technology of bio-engineering that can create novel foods or old foods in new clothing. Maybe you heard about the $415,000 hamburger that was debuted in a restaurant in 2013. Maybe you heard about the new ice cream prepared using bio-synthesized dairy protein. And, less likely, maybe you read about egg whites derived by fermentation. That's the stuff of this program. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: None Today, I’ve decided to do a news show. Every so often I report on significant news stories from the world of processed foods. The four stories reviewed in today’s program all came from recent posts on the FLR Facebook page, but, as usual, I’m not just going to read these articles, but I’ll summarize and provide commentary when necessary. These kinds of news stories often don’t get covered by the major news outlets or, in the print media, they may get pushed to the back of an issue. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: None There is increasing, although indirect evidence, that the American diet is linked to the severity of the pandemic in the United States. So, with some reservations, given that this topic ranges far afield from my area of expertise, I will attempt to connect the dots between catching the virus and suffering from its complications by looking at the immune system, pre-existing conditions, the standard American diet, and ultra-processed foods. This will be a challenge, but let’s go for it. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: None This is another show dedicated to news stories about processed foods and trends. The food industry never stays static, so you and I have to stay on our toes to be aware of the changes constantly happening. In this episode, I go international to discuss the following topics: (1) how a neighboring country is trying to protect its kids from junk food; (2) England’s obesity drive; (3) the misleading nature of the word “natural” on food labels; and (4) why French women compared to others are successful at keeping the pounds off. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: Tallow, Hydrogenated Tallow, Magnesium Stearate, This episode is about kids and junk food. The content of the program will consist of 3 parts: (1) kid’s health in America and the world; (2) marketing bad food to kids; and (3) examining 5 commercial products that target kids as consumers. Along the way, you’ll learn about the Convention on the Rights of the Child … a Bill of Rights for kids. Of course, this episode would not be complete without the usual, brain-numbing analyses of food ingredients in processed foods. So foodeaters, I think you’ll find this information interesting. Even I was surprised at some of the items I dug up during the research for the show. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: allulose, MCT, monk fruit extract, inulin In this episode I continue the examination of alternative foods, i.e. foods that are manufactured to cater to specific diets or health conditions. In the previous episode, #47, I reviewed the gluten free diet and a number of processed foods designed for gluten sensitive consumers. The focus of this episode is the keto diet. Topics will include a description of the diet, its history, my personal bias, and a short list of processed foods manufactured for people on this diet. Along the way, I make a few interesting discoveries. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: fructooligosaccharides, psyllium, and potassium bitartrate In today’s show I examine alternative foods, i.e. foods that are manufactured for consumers with specific health conditions. That category includes foods to avoid allergies or food sensitivities (e.g. lactose intolerance, gluten sensitivity) or foods for special diets like vegetarian, vegan, keto, paleo, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, and a host of others. The focus for this episode is gluten-free foods. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: None This is another show dedicated to news stories about processed foods and trends. The food industry never stays static, so you and I have to stay on our toes to be aware of the changes constantly happening. In this episode I’ll discuss the following: (1) the evolution of a very old product that your great grandma probably used; (2) how scientists can observe the effects of junk food at the cellular level; (3) the missing nutrient from our diet that undermines our health; and (4) how fast food can get even more unhealthier than it is. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: Cultured Wheat Flour, Ferrous Gluconate, Alum, Calcium Silicate Today, I return to investigating a fast food restaurant. The target is Subway, long heralded as a healthy choice for those consumers seeking convenience food that’s a cut above the rest. But, here’s the question, does Subway live up to its self-promoted reputation. Is its menu really good for you or is it just another well-disguised example of ultra-professed food? Join me for a deep dive into a Subway meal to answer that question. Along the way, I’ll look at Subway’s history and talk about some new food ingredients. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: none How do we defend ourselves against the unhealthy, ultra-processed foods filling the shelves of grocery stores, convenience stores, and big box stores, and populating the meals in fast food restaurants? Education, education, and education! We need to become informed. The FLR podcast certainly helps, but there are other great resources out there. In today’s episode, I review some of my favorite books that helped to educate me about the dangers of highly processed foods and the standard American diet. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: fructooligosaccharides and invert sugar In this episode, I address the most dangerous store in America. Most every one of you has been in one. They are all over the place in nearly every town and city. They lure you in with one thing, then appeal to your vices, habits, and appetites, to open your wallets further. Only the strongest will power is successful against their overwhelming influence. INGREDIENT OF THE DAY: Dipotassium Phosphate Today, once again, I focus my attention on fast food restaurants and the prevalence of industrial ingredients in their products. I evaluate two of the most iconic American restaurants: Kentucky Fried Chicken and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen. Along the way, we’ll look at some history, some nutritional facts, and some truly astounding findings about the ingredients in a basic fried chicken meal. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: None This program is another in the irregular series called hidden ingredients in food where I talk about substances that will never show up on a food label. The subject today is chicken. What kinds of hidden ingredients could wind up in chicken, you ask? Well, unfortunately, there is a lot to talk about, from cradle to grave, so to speak. By the end, you may be a bit surprised, even a little astonished, or possibly a bit alarmed. We’ll see. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: None This is another show devoted to news stories popping up in early 2019. A recurrent theme in this podcast is the terrible impact that highly processed foods have on our health. I think, in the next 10 years, that topic will become front-and-center in the national discourse as the health crises in this country and others reach epic proportions. Even now, I’m seeing some significant early signs, which I’ll talk about later. Plus, at the end you’ll get a fascinatingly gross story about the fast food industry. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: Leghemoglobin and Isolated Pea Protein What’s all this buzz about fake meat lately? It’s not fake news about real meat, but it’s real news about fake meat. Got that? The Impossible Burger and the Beyond Burger are taking some giant bites out of the burger business. What’s the scoop? Why are these burgers becoming so popular and what’s really in them? Are they healthy to eat? Should we be eating them? Those are the questions for today’s podcast. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: Cane Sugar Fiber In this episode, I return to fast foods and continue to ask the question, “Is fast food the same as processed food?” This month I examine products from Pizza Hut, Domino’s, and Papa Murphy’s, some of the most popular pizza chains in the United States. How do they measure up against each other and how do they measure up in general in terms of their ingredients and nutritional values? INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: soluble corn fiber The program for today explores an old subject: breakfast cereals. I reminisce a little about the start of the podcast and will play you a never-heard-before clip. Then I tackle the sugary realm of breakfast cereals trying to answer the question: Is there a difference between eating cereal for breakfast and just downing cookies? INGREDIENT OF THE DAY: none This program is another in the irregular series called "Hidden Ingredients in Food" where I talk about chemicals that will likely never show up on a food label. The subject today is beef. Sounds simple enough, right? What kinds of hidden ingredients could wind up in a natural product like beef, you ask? Well, there’s a lot to talk about, from cradle to grave, so to speak. By the end, you may be a bit surprised, even a little astonished, or possibly a bit alarmed. We’ll see. INGREDIENT OF THE DAY: none Today's show is a re-cast. I talk about merchandising. Long before you get to the label on a food package to evaluate whether the food is good for you or not, there are various influences at play that may be unconsciously directing you to a particular product. Some of those influences are need, desire, habit, coupon incentives, advertising, marketing, product placement, and merchandising. That latter influence, merchandising, is probably the one influence that people are least familiar with. Come with me on a tour of your local grocery store and learn about merchandising practices. INGREDIENT OF THE DAY: none This is another show devoted to recent news stories popping up all over the internet. Today, I will showcase “clean food,” a new trend in the food industry just getting its feet wet. I’ll explore the “whats” and “whys” of “clean food,” a phrase that we’ll be hearing lots about in the near future, particularly as regards the meat industry. Then, for story #2, it’s finally almost here … the long-promised revision to the Nutrition Facts Label and the launching of the restaurant mandate. I’ll be getting into the weeds concerning both of those upcoming changes. INGREDIENT OF THE DAY: propylene glycol alginate In this show, I’ll examine in detail the ingredient compositions and nutritional breakdowns of two similar meals from two fast food restaurants to answer such questions as: (1) Is there really a difference between fast food and the types of highly processed foods found in the typical grocery store?; (2) Are the rumors true that fast food is intrinsically unhealthy?; and (3) In terms of ingredients and nutrients, how similar are fast food meals in different restaurants? Hang onto your seats; this is going to be a data driven ride!
