Performing the misadventures of her semi-autobiographical alter ego, artist Shana Moulton has drawn attention in the field of new media studies. Over two decades, Moulton, a professor of time-based arts at UC Santa Barbara, has used physical comedy to interpret her artistic creation, “Cynthia,” a wide-eyed ingénue. In Moulton's performance, video and sculpture series, "Whispering Pines" — named after the trailer park in Central California where Moulton grew up — Cynthia often sports a housecoat or spandex and seeks enlightenment through exercise and shopping. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” 8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”9 Jesus answered: “Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father'? 10 Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.Alan's Soaps https://www.alansartisansoaps.comUse coupon code ‘TODD' to save an additional 10% off the bundle price.Bioptimizers https://bioptimizers.com/toddStart your journey to better health with MassZymes. Aurora police have identified the Tren de Aragua gangsters arrested in connection to their reported violent takeover of several apartment complexes in the city. The Aurora Police department had previously denied that the criminal group from Venezuela was operating in properties in the Denver suburb, even after shocking security footage showed armed men breaking into the units of one complex. Many of the arrests stem from violent activity at the properties, particularly the Whispering Pines apartments, whose landlord has claimed the gang overtook the property late last year and began charging 'rent' from tenants.
This conversation between Shana Moulton and e-flux Film curator Lukas Brašiškis was recorded live at e-flux following a screening on Thursday, April 4, 2024. Weaving feminist undertones with surrealist imagery and sound, Shana Moulton's work explores the nuances of the contemporary psyche. Her Whispering Pines series, in particular, delves into the intricacies of self-help culture, the quest for spiritual meaning, and the often comedic absurdity of personal wellness rituals. In her performances, videos, and installations, Moulton, through the experiences of her alter ego, Cynthia, writes a narrative that is both personal and universally resonant, probing the boundaries between the mundane and the mystical in the time of global digital capitalism. The screening featured a selection of Shana Moulton's works: Whispering Pines Zero (2002, 6 minutes, a collaboration with Jacob Ciocci), Whispering Pines 1 (2002, 2 minutes), Whispering Pines 2 (2003, 4 minutes), Whispering Pines 5 (2005, 6 minutes), Repetitive Stress Injuries (2008, 12 minutes), The Galactic Pot Healer (2010, 8 minutes), Every Angle is an Angel (2016, 6 minutes), and the film-opera Whispering Pines 10 (2018, 35 minutes, a collaboration with Nick Hallett). Moulton has had solo exhibitions at international institutions including Palais De Tokyo in Paris, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, Kunsthaus Glarus in Switzerland, the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Her work has been featured in Artforum, the New York Times, Art in America, Flash Art, BOMB, and Frieze, among others. Her work has been featured on Art21 and her single-channel videos are distributed by Electronic Arts Intermix. An edited version of this conversation was published on e-flux Film Notes. Film Notes, launched in June, features conversations with artists and filmmakers, scripts, and experimental writing on the moving image.

Hope - is that the light at the end of tunnel? Please join us next Sunday in welcoming Scott and Laura Brookins as they share with us and update us on their mission work in Uganda. God has blessed this ministry for many years and Whispering Pines has had the privilege of seeing God working in their Voices of Love School, the Farming Project, the Women's Business Shop and the Bible Project. Jesus has clearly and repeatedly instructed us to spread the Good News not only in our own communities but throughout the world. “Go into the world and preach the Gospel to all creation.”” John 6:45. Most of us will never have the opportunity to disciple in foreign countries but we can none the less, through prayer and financial support impact the lives of others worldwide so that they too can know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Thank you, Sue Shelton/Missions

What happens to us after we die? Can love transcend physical death? Are time and space mere illusions? Existential and philosophical questions are at the heart of the music produced by Lord Huron, an indie band based in Los Angeles. Fans have given them the nickname of "Cosmic Cowboys" due to the nature of the subjects addressed in their songs and albums. Ghost - both literal and figurative - make frequent appearances in their lyrics, along with ancient legends, malevolent spirits, cosmological lore, and a smattering of broken hearts and lost loves. Ben Schneider, the founder of the Lord Huron, is also its lead singer and principal songwriter. Schneider grew up in the shadow of the Great Lakes where he absorbed much of the rich history of the region and the Native Americans who've lived there for centuries. His music combines elements of folk, rock, country, punk, Asian, and even surf influences. The sound is lush and multi-layered, and the songs address complicated ideas not usually found in popular music. Music critics have struggled to find a specific niche for Lord Huron, but the fan base has no such problem. In this episode. Jeremy and George ask Ben Schneider about the inspiration for his songs, pay a visit to the hidden Whispering Pines recording studio, and share video clips from Lord Huron concerts, including the current tour. We grabbed #84 Tanner Ward to talk about heading into his first year as a 450 rider in the Canadian Triple Crown Series MX Nationals set to start June 5th at Whispering Pines in Kamloops, BC. Tanner is the 450 rider on the Thor Kawasaki Pro Circuit team based out of Ontario.
BONUS EPISODE PEOPLE!!! The guys are "out of the office" for Monday, May 9th, so in lieu of a usual weekly "recap pod" (shout-out to Max Homa for getting it done this weekend), we've got a special one-on-one interview by our man, JT, with OU freshman phenom (and hometown boy), Drew Goodman! JT and Drew talk about the Sooners' recent Big 12 Championship win down at Whispering Pines, the "pressure" of being a freshman on the #1 ranked squad in the country, and the guys talk about the upcoming NCAA Regionals, which will be a "home game" for the Sooners down at Jimmie Austin in Norman, May 16 - 18! You won't want to miss this great interview pod!!! @ysogolf @sports_prose @chalkokc @ScottyG21 @DirtyBirdiesDFS @drewgoodman02 https://fantasysportsprose.com/ https://chalkokc.com/ https://soonersports.com/sports/mens-golf/roster/drew-goodman/14802 https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0d45a8a92eabf49-2022
The inmates are running the asylum this week, as Keith (the "third leg", LOL) is out tending to personal matters so it's J-Teal and Scooter running the boards! The guys do a deep-dive into a full weekend of golf for themselves, as J-Teal and Scoots recap their 90+ holes of golf from Enid, Boiling Springs in Woodward, and then back to OKC in a whirlwind 72-hour tour! Our boys joined the Golfers Journal crew in Woodward for the weekend and enjoyed watching them take in all the good stuff that is Boiling Springs, a/k/a, the "House that Jeff Wagner built!" The guys then recap Coach Hybl and the OU Sooners' big win down at a wet/windy Whispering Pines to clinch the men's Big 12 Championship! There's some Mexico Open talk with Jon Rahm back in the winner's circle, as well as a quick preview of this weekend's Wells Fargo Championship, and J-Teal's favorite defending champion, Rory McIlroy!! Plus don't forget about the second installment of the guys' new "Miles of Maxwell" series dropping this Wednesday (5/4/2022), which highlights Hillcrest Country Club in Bartlesville, Oklahoma! All that, and so much more on this week's YSO podcast!!! https://fantasysportsprose.com/ https://chalkokc.com/ @ysogolf @sports_prose @chalkokc @DirtyBirdiesDFS @ScottyG21
MAJOR NEWS! Tiger Woods plays a practice round at Southern Hills in Tulsa! We were there when his flight touched down, and have complete coverage of his play at the golf course. Plus, the Sooners win the Big 12 Championship down in Texas! We visit with head coach Ryan Hybl and senior captain Logan McAllister after the thrilling win at Whispering Pines.
Welcome to yet another episode of the "bell horse of the ball" of golf podcasts! All three amigos are back in studio this week and we're really (no, really) excited about the "other" Mexico Open this weekend! But first, J-Teal gives one last "tease" of the guys' upcoming mini-pod series titled "Miles of Maxwell" as the first episode drops this week (4/27/2022)! The guys then recap the Zurich where alligators--fittingly enough--were prominently displayed down in SEC country, but it was two California kids hoisting the trophy on Sunday as Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele held off the duo of Billy Horschel and Sam Burns. The guys then talk up the Big 12 Women's Golf Championship from the weekend down at Houston Oaks which, fittingly enough, is not in the city of Houston (suburb of Hockley, TX). It was the lady Longhorns who won the team title over Baylor and OSU (T2), but it was the Cowgirls' Lianna Bailey who earned top medalist with a score of +2 in tough conditions all weekend long! The men got started today at Whispering Pines in nearby (relatively) Trinity, TX, but play was called due to stormy weather so they'll have to jam in more golf over the remaining two days of the event! The guys then talk up DJ and Paulina's wedding (finally!), the "Shark", Steph Curry, and plenty of "Fairway Files" from the past week's play. All that, plus picks for the Mexico Open, and so much more on this week's YSO podcast! https://fantasysportsprose.com/ https://chalkokc.com/ @ysogolf @sports_prose @DirtyBirdiesDFS @ScottyG21 @chalkokc

Tyler Medaglia talks about his win at the 2022 Big Kahuna Hare Scrambles race at Whispering Pines in Kamloops, BC.
"The Band's first album, Music from Big Pink, seemed to come out of nowhere, with its ramshackle musical blend and songs of rural tragedy. The Band, the group's second album, was a more deliberate and even more accomplished effort, partially because the players had become a more cohesive unit, and partially because guitarist Robbie Robertson had taken over the songwriting, writing or co-writing all 12 songs. Though a Canadian, Robertson focused on a series of American archetypes from the union worker in "King Harvest (Has Surely Come)" and the retired sailor in "Rockin' Chair" to, most famously, the Confederate Civil War observer Virgil Cane in "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down." The album effectively mixed the kind of mournful songs that had dominated Music from Big Pink, here including "Whispering Pines" and "When You Awake" (both co-written by Richard Manuel), with rollicking up-tempo numbers like "Rag Mama Rag" and "Up on Cripple Creek" (both sung by Levon Helm and released as singles, with "Up on Cripple Creek" making the Top 40). As had been true of the first album, it was The Band's sound that stood out the most, from Helm's (and occasionally Manuel's) propulsive drumming to Robertson's distinctive guitar fills and the endlessly inventive keyboard textures of Garth Hudson, all topped by the rough, expressive singing of Manuel, Helm, and Rick Danko that mixed leads with harmonies. The arrangements were simultaneously loose and assured, giving the songs a timeless appeal, while the lyrics continued to paint portraits of 19th century rural life (especially Southern life, as references to Tennessee and Virginia made clear), its sometimes less savory aspects treated with warmth and humor." - William Ruhlmann, All MusicSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/polyphonic-press1229/donations

For a band that has had such a large impact on pop culture for the last decade, Lord Huron has remained under-the-radar of many music listeners. Starting out in Michigan as the brainchild of Ben Schneider, a multi-talented artist, Lord Huron has become a hugely influential indie rock band whose music has appeared in numerous films, commercials, television shows, and in series for NBC, The CW, Netflix, HBO, and Showtime. Their songs have also appeared on music charts worldwide. Based out of their own Whispering Pines studio in Los Angeles, California, Lord Huron – now composed of Schneider and his former high school bandmates – continue to generate wonderfully inventive music. Accompanied by Ben Schneider's artwork and multimedia creations such as the collection of live-streamed shows called Alive from Whispering Pines, the band takes us on a fictional journey into the storied past of Whispering Pines studio and music from a bygone era. In this Derringer Discoveries episode, the Derringer Brothers – Alton and Paul – explore Lord Huron's latest album, Long Lost, and share their favorite album tracks. They'll also share their thoughts on whether Lord Huron has taken their latest concept album too far. Did they Jump the Shark? Did they Cross the Rubicon? You'll have to listen to find out. Be sure to stick around for the Post-Episode Bonus where Paul and Alton introduce you to a talented singer-songwriter named Katie Tich (pronounced “tish”) out of Baltimore, Maryland. Katie was kind enough to join the Derringer Brothers for an exclusive interview where she shares how she got her start in music and provided insight into her heartfelt and emotional lyrics. Katie's songs have appeared on the Derringer Discoveries curated playlist, the Turnip Music Radio (TMR) - Top 25. Anna Katharine Green (1846-1935) was an American poet and novelist. She was one of the first writers of detective fiction in America and distinguished herself by writing well plotted, legally accurate stories. Born in Brooklyn, New York, her early ambition was to write romantic verse, and she corresponded with Ralph Waldo Emerson. When her poetry failed to gain recognition, she produced her first and best known novel, The Leavenworth Case (1878). She became a bestselling author, eventually publishing about 40 books. She was in some ways a progressive woman for her time-succeeding in a genre dominated by male writers-but she did not approve of many of her feminist contemporaries, and she was opposed to women's suffrage. Her other works include A Strange Disappearance (1880), The Affair Next Door (1897), The Circular Study (1902), The Filigree Ball (1903), The Millionaire Baby (1905), The House in the Mist (1905), The Woman in the Alcove (1906), The House of the Whispering Pines (1910), Initials Only (1912), and The Mystery of the Hasty Arrow (1917). --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/chau-kian-nam/message

EP42: In this episode of Not Your Average Lives, I'm chatting for a second time with my friend, Kimberly Diede who I first met when she sent me a sweet email about one of my episodes that inspired her. Since that first episode, Kim has published TWO more books, while still working her full time banking job. Her midlife transformational story is sure to inspire anyone who has ever had an inkling to write a book. I love her example that your passion can be a side gig. Life is so much better and more fulfilling, as long as you find what you love to do and are able to spend a lot of time doing it.. I'm about to start the 3rd book in her "Celia's Gifts" series. I'm a big fan, after she got me hooked when she sent me "Whispering Pines," the first book in the series, right after our first interview!!! You can learn more about Kim and her books at her website: http://www.kimberlydiedeauthor.com/ I'm always looking for interesting guests so if you have a great midlife transformation to share or know of someone who does, let's connect! Country music comes from the heart of the south in our country. It speaks to the prairies and bogs and swamps and hoe downs that keep communities alive and full of life. Popular country music of today is represented by Cowboys who might look handsome and play the role but aren't really cowboys. The mavericks full of brass and spur and cattle end arounds came from Appalachia and the bluegrass Pickers and fiddlers like Red Allen, Tex Logan and Bill Monroe. Entertainers who would wear suits on stage on a sweltering hot Alabama day because they knew that's what the farmers wore to Church on Sundays. My guest today hails from Wilmington, NC which was bubbling with its own regional music clustered inside the black mountains where there might have been a shady grove to cool off rosin up your bow and do some fiddlin and singing. My guest today is a multi instrumentalist who plays the mandolin, fiddle, guitar and bass. What is fascinating to this host is the idea that my guest was a prolific session player for the likes of Al Kooper, Gary Scruggs, Ringo Starr, Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan. His showmanship and songwriting soon led to a career as a leader with Te John and Joel "Taz" Digregorio. Back then he was talking Armageddon all the while willing to wake up and try again tomorrow. His albums have been played under a full moon in South Carolina and in the Whispering Pines of upstate New York where as a camper the images of Chicken in Bread Pans and Fire on The Mountain permeated the minds of so many kids who dream of painting a masterpiece. 1/2 a mile from Tucson by the morning light Charlie Daniels welcome to the JFS. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jake-feinberg/support

While The Band had critical success on their first studio effort 1968's "Music From Big Pink" they didn't waste anytime before getting back into the studio to make their follow up. The Band was now respected in their own right apart from Ronnie Hawkins and Bob Dylan. They had the support of a growing fanbase, critics and most importantly musicians like George Harrison and Eric Clapton. However, while The Band were enjoying the frills of a now more luxurious lifestyle that didn't impede on their music making. Their self-titled second album, later referred to as "The Brown Album" pushed them even further in the music cultural zeitgeist. The approach similar to what they had done with their first album. This time holing themselves up into a homemade studio in the Hollywood Hills as opposed to the mountain wilderness of the Catskills in upstate New York. The Brown album went on to produce some of The Band's most well known songs like "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", "Rag Mamma Rag", "Whispering Pines" and "King Harvest (Has Surely Come" and further cemented their influence in the creation of the Americana genre of back to basics. Their sophomore album was also their own unique commentary on America from the perspective of the now increasingly forgotten peoples: the farmers, the truck drivers and even the drunkards! Moreover, The Band began to play live again for the first time in years, taking part in some of the most important festivals in music history like: the Toronto Pop Festival, Woodstock and Isle of Wight all in 1969. While also playing historic stints at Bill Graham's Winterland in San Fransisco and Fillmore East in New York. The Band was nearing the peak, their reach was growing, their influence looming large and they were able to make the music they had yearned to create for over a decade. When the band released their first 2 albums in 1968 & 1969, they set off a musical revolution; the psychedelic sounds of the '60's were out and a return to the roots was back in style. "Whispering Pines" is their most haunting, beautiful ballad, with a lead vocal from Richard Manuel that's so vulnerable it makes you ache to hear it. The Band were at their peak during this time, with every member writing & performing at their best. Let me know what you think -- write a review, leave a comment, and share with your friends! Mixed Up Confusion is our vehicle to discuss the culture that surrounds our weekly conversation about Bob Dylan. And because you're here on Patreon, you're getting this early! This is the second episode of November's Band Month! On this night, Night 2, The Band features 1977's ISLANDS and closes with 1969's The Band. Right as rain, the show begins with Islands, described by Kelly as akin to "sci-fi merry-go-rounds," "Community hold music," and "half Randy Newman, half SNL theme song," to say nothing of the organ that "turns it into a clown nightmare" and "porny" synths. - "Right As Rain" (4:30) - "Street Walker" (6:00) - "Let the Night Fall" (7:50) - "Ain't That A Lot of Love" (8:45) - "Christmas Must Be Tonight" (10:00) - "Islands" (12:20) - "The Saga of Pepote Rogue" (14:00) - "Georgia on My Mind" (16:30) - "Knockin' Last John" (17:30) - "Livin' in a Dream." Final Thoughts on Islands (19:00) before the showcase of showcases, THE BAND (22:45): - "Across the Great Divide" (25:30) - "Rag Mama Rag" (29:00) - "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" (31:30) - "When You Awake" (40:30) - "Up on Cripple Creek" (42:30) - "Whispering Pines" (46:30) - "Jemima Surrender" (50:00) - "Rockin' Chair" (54:30) - "Look Out, Cleveland" (56:15) - "Jawbone" (57:30) - "Unfaithful Servant" (59:40) - "King Harvest (Will Surely Come)" (1:02:45) After insightful final thought (1:07:00), we turn ourselves to Night Three which will feature the Band's third record, Stage Fright from 1970, and the underrated Northern Lights – Southern Cross from 1975. The McLins and the Sealys are south Louisiana’s version of the Hatfields and the McCoys. Stevie Sealy left Louisiana for college and didn’t return except for holiday visits with her family. After a breakup with her boyfriend, she decides to move back to the town of Sealy temporarily. She never really understood or wanted to be involved in the family feud with the McLins, but she finds herself right in the middle of it when Kellen McLin walks into her life and changes everything. In this romantic comedy, Robin Alexander weaves a tale about how fast love can happen and how inconvenient it can be. John is very glad to have him back in the area, and the show becomes a great conversation about losing your way, and the help needed from friends, this show, and the Facebook groups to find your way home. On today's show I talk to musician Katie Eastburn. Katie grew up mostly in Nashville (with stints in Hawaii and Colorado), before migrating to San Francisco to choreograph dance and produce musicals. There she met guitarist Jeff Rosenberg of the notorious, now-defunct West Coast noise-rock duo Pink and Brown, and they eventually formed the indie rock band Young People, who released albums on 5RC and Dim Mak. Since then, she's been part of the groups Whispering Pines, Dionne Werewolf, Gigi and most recently has been recording under the name KATIEE. In fact, her first single was just released on the Selfish Agenda label, and so was her first album. And they're wonderful! This is the website for Beginnings, subscribe on iTunes, follow me on Twitter.

Once upon a time, before the universe was digitized, people made and listened to music using analog technology. On one end, artists, producers and engineers recorded on analog tape and they incorporated the medium's limitations into their process. Tape is hissy, but it is forgiving - and it can make music sound dynamic and close to the listener. And on the other end, long before people could put their entire music collection on a device smaller than a pack of cigarettes, music fans listened to their favorite albums by placing black vinyl discs on a turntable and setting a needle in a groove. Vinyl is scratchy, but it is an experience. The vinyl devotees in Los Angeles' Whispering Pines know their way around this archaic but romantic analog technology and they aren't afraid to use it. Their eponymous sophomore record was recorded on glorious 2-inch analog tape and will be released in the autumn of 2012. The record is replete with carefully crafted songs that hearken back to the days of classic rock guitars, whirring Hammond organs, rattling drums and slapback echo. And if you close your eyes and listen, you can easily envision their name spinning around the middle of that black vinyl disc at 33 1/3 revolutions per minute.
