In tribute to Quebec, Unibroue named this fantastic Tripel after the land encountered by 16th-century French explorers who thought they'd reached the end of the world. To date, it has won 55 medals and honors from top international competitions, including 13 platinum distinctions and 29 golds at prestigious events such as the Chicago Beverage Testing Institute's World Beer Championships and the World Beer Awards. La Fin du Monde is definitely a beer worth drinking!
Welcome to we are beer people, a podcast all about the many different people who help us enjoy beer.Today we're taking a leap from what is – if we're honest – the perfectly stable ground beneath our feet and taking the risk and opportunity of the high seas.In some ways that's the journey that today's guest has takenI'm speaking with Sonja Mitchell, the Managing Director or Beer Admiral of Jump Ship Brewing, an alcohol-free beer brand that started when Sonja – an avid sailor - had had enough of low alcohol beers not coming close to the Scottish beers she enjoyed. And so Sonja quite literally jumped ship from her day job to brew her ownAnd after much work and many brews, their lager, Yardarm, achieved best no and low alcohol lager in the World Beer Awards.Fast forward to today and Jump Ship's a small crew of shipmates with a brewery under construction in Midlothian with its sights set on making the world a little better along the way.Follow us to stay updated: Website: www.wearebeerpeople.co.ukSocial media: @wearebeerpeople on X (Twitter) and InstagramGet in touch on email: wearebeerpeoplepod@gmail.comJump Ship Brewing:Website - LinkSocials - Twitter/X, Instagram, FacebookIntro/outro music: That One Time by Midnight Daydream Hosted on Acast.

Join me as I sit down with Mitch for an insightful discussion on his entrepreneurial journey in building Libra from scratch. We explored some thought-provoking questions such as the fundamental differences between being an entrepreneur versus considering oneself a business person, and why the skill of selling is often overlooked in formal education settings. Mitch gave us plenty of insight into some of the challenges, triumphs and pivotal moments that have shaped Libra's success, securing funding and staying true to one's vision. ________________________________________ Libra, a division of Upstreet Craft Brewing (located in Charlottetown, PEI) is on a mission to provide a refreshing and balanced alternative in the beverage industry. It's the second of our three episodes featuring interviews from the Williamstown Beer and Cider Festival and again a big thanks to Shane and the team for bringing us along that day! Davydd chats with Jacqui from Coconspirators about the brewery's birthday plans and the new core range beers before Clint from Pocket Beagles predictably crashes the party and starts talking can designs and the time that he had his shorts ripped off him at a beer festival. Urban Alley introduce their brewery and a fun line up of beers including the highest ranked Australian Aussie Pale Ale from the World Beer Awards - the first 2 Aussie Pales weren't even from Australia - prompting Davydd to threaten a letter writing campaign. We hear all about the roll out of their venues before getting sidetracked with trombone talk. And then we chat with the Clifton Hill Brewpub about the long and storied history of the venue and what it's like to transition from the world of home brewing into being a professional brewer!
Chris Hannaway founded Infinite Session with his brother Tom in 2018. They set out with a goal of creating an alcohol-free beer that actually tastes like beer, just like you'd find in your local craft brewery. Infinite beers sell worldwide, predominantly in UK and US supermarkets and have won several World Beer Awards, including when judged against alcoholic beers!Unlike alcohol-free beers of the past, Infinite Session is unrestrained. Infinite Session stands for more when alcohol-free beer has always been defined by restriction. They believe that beer is bigger than booze: no more covering labels or whispering orders at the bar. Drinking should be on your terms because the flavour is more important than ABV. In this episode, Simon and Chris discuss how to go about starting a business you love, working with family and much more.TopicsChris' background and how Infinite Session was bornHow to get into entrepreneurshipThe importance of market researchWorking with familyIf you had to start again, what would you do differently?Chris Hannaway: https://infinite.beer/Powered by GoDaddy UK:40% off: https://bit.ly/3IZ0Ibc Tailor Brands: Pep for 40% off https://tailorbrands.go2cloud.org/SH5U FOR MORE HELP START HERE: purposefulproject.com

Adrain Tierney-Jones specialises in beer, pubs, food and travel and how they all go together. His work has appeared in the likes of the Daily Telegraph, Sunday Times Travel Magazine, Daily Mail, All About Beer (USA), Imbibe, Original Gravity and Beer Magazine amongst many others. He is the editor of 1001 Beers to Enjoy Before You Die and has written at least 10 other books on beer and pubs. He is an experienced speaker on beer, talking and tasting at a variety of events including the odd literary festival. He is also a long-standing beer judge in the UK, Belgium and Italy and chairman of judges for the World Beer Awards. Finally, he has crossed over onto the brewing floor and produced collaboration beers with Brains, Sharp's, Otley and BrewDog. He started as a rock journalist and was in a band once upon a time, guitarist and singer, trying to be Ian Curtis, Jim Morrison and Joe Strummer all at the same time. In Biertalk we talk about his history and the current state of the British beer world, but also about the everyday life of a beer maniac...
By now, you might be familiar with Troy Casey and his beer career. After graduating from the University of California at Davis he took a job with the company then known as MillerCoors, working in their Colorado brewery in the A.C. Coors division. It was a research and development facility where they would test out various recipes, noodle around with new ones and see if anything stuck that could eventually be scaled up to the big production brewery. It's a brewer's dream. Great equipment, access to ingredients, and some of the smartest beer science minds at arm's length. It also allowed for some creative license. While there he got the idea to brew a lambic-style ale and assembled it, barrels it and let it sit, testing it compulsively, until it was ready. It lit a fire in him and soon enough he and his wife Emily decided to open their own brewery where he could embrace sour and wood, play with fruits and let the style of beer that had captured his heart thrive and grow. The response was immediate with fans coming from around the country to visit the brewery in Western Colorado and lining up by the hundreds at beer festivals. As you'll hear, the brewery has since grown and new styles have joined the mix, but there is still a twinkle in his voice when he talks about the style that started this part of his career. Amato is a Master Cicerone, as well as a Doemens Bier Sommelier. She the also the author of Beerology: Everything You Need to Know to Enjoy Beer…Even More, which is available where books are sold. Recently the sensory and craft beer consultant launched a new online course through her website, Beerology. It's called Mastering Beer and Food Pairing, and on this episode we talk about the course along with opera, current trends and tastes, and finding the right beer to match a mood. Globally, alcohol consumption is thought to have declined by 6% in 2020. And between 2020 and 2024 the “low and no” market is expected to balloon by 31%. But what's next for the sector? What will we all be drinking in ten years' time? And how can "low and no" overcome some of the challenges it faces? In this episode of the Table Talk podcast, Stefan Gates is joined by three experts to help answer some of those questions. They discuss why developments in alcohol-free wine have been slower than in alcohol-free beer, why a trace amount of alcohol means a drink is less likely to go to waste, and they tackle the big question: What should the low and no alcohol sector actually be called? They also try to predict what the alcohol-free trends will be in 2022 and beyond. Future-gazing is a fool's game - but let's do it anyway! Laura Willoughby MBE, Founder of Club Soda and the Mindful Drinking Festival The inspiration for Club Soda comes from Laura's experience of giving up drinking ten years ago. A campaigner at heart with a background in movement building and politics, she realised that one of the big sticking points was a way to support people to take a self-guided journey to change their drinking. Club Soda has over 70,000 individual members and nearly 80 brand members who they support through research and collaborative projects. They have built a drinks guide and they run the UK's only Mindful Drinking Festival which is now in its 8th edition. Rob Fink, Co Founder, Big Drop Brew In 2016 Rob Fink founded the world's first company to focus entirely on brewing alcohol-free beer – Big Drop Brewing Co. As a lawyer with zero brewing experience, he teamed-up with an experimental brewer (Johnny Clayton from Wild Beer) and the creative mind of school-friend and entrepreneur James Kindred. Together they applied left-field fermenting techniques that meant no alcohol needed to be extracted from the end product to meet the required maximum 0.5% ABV. Five years later he is selling over 4 million bottles of 0.5% ABV beer annually around the world and his beers have won over 85 international beer awards Between them, including 7 times ‘World's Best' at the World Beer Awards and beating full-strength rivals in blind-tastings. Thorsten Hartmann, Head of Custom Analytics, IWSR Thorsten leads the IWSR's custom analytics team, providing clients with data, insights and strategic advice to help them define, refine and build their global business strategies. Thorsten has an extensive background in FMCG consultancy and beverage industry market research. Previous roles include director of consulting for GlobalData (formerly Canadean), as well as consulting roles at IMES Consulting/ManSci.
BEERS: Will tries a very unique beer...so unique, it's been named “America's Best Light Lager” at this year's World Beer Awards. Chair 2 is a Sons of Liberty creation, established in South Kingstown, but distributed nationally under its own brand...very similar to what SOL has done with Loyal Lemonade (which is DELICIOUS). Will has high praises for this new beer. Jake reviews a North Shore selection from “Lynn, Lynn, the city of sin...you don't come out the way you came in.” Bent Water Brewing Company, a hidden gem in a warehouse right off the Lynnway, hits a home run with Sluice Juice, a New England IPA that has more hops than you knew existed. BUSINESS: The iPhone 13 is coming!! Along with new Apple Watches and AirPods, Apple will release products at its world release events this week. When does phone technology hit its limit? Are we ever going to get the hologram keyboard that was promised to us like 10 years ago?! How will the releases affect Apple stock; is now a good time to buy, or should you wait until after the event? Also, COVID tests are coming to brick and mortar stores; they'll be in stores at around a 35% discount off what you can normally buy them for. We debate; would you buy a covid test in a store if you were in a pinch? BALLS: A long overdue show, but our “Writers' Room” makes its debut! We have our in-house writers James Mas, Sam Basel, Jordan Laube, and Eddy Szalan on the show to discuss their NFL teams' performance in Week 1. We break down the Eagles & Cardinals wins over the Falcons and Titans, and then discuss the losses...there was much sadness to go around between the Giants, Pats, and Jets. We recap Sam Darnold's revenge game with the Panthers, Corey Davis' new addition to the Jets receiving core, and predictions for Mac Jones's second game. We finish with giving our locks of the week, and the top fantasy performer for next week. Thanks for listening! Remember to hit the follow button on Spotify, and leave us a review on Apple Podcasts. This week on the Kondrat Podcast: a “Let’s Meet For A Beer” edition with Partake Brewing’s Founder and CEO Ted Fleming, who shares how a Crohn’s disease diagnosis led to him discovering a non-alcoholic beer landscape that didn’t satisfy his tastebuds, and how he’s solving that problem.Like many Albertans, Ted was a growing craft beer enthusiast in the early 2000s as a number of craft brewers throughout the US and BC started shipping their brews into the province. However in 2005 he received a Crohn’s disease diagnosis which meant that he would need to avoid beer because of the alcohol content. Ted admits that at first he didn’t take this too seriously, a decision that caught up with him while on a trip to Greece after the birth of his daughter - playing fast and loose with his consumption habits landed him a week in the hospital. After this he got into non alcoholic beer as a consumer, but discovered that the category was very boring. Wanting to enjoy some more variety, particularly while the variety of craft beer in the market was exploding, Ted started an online store for non alcoholic beer, brining in products from Europe with a larger variety. Running this store have him some exposure to the world of consumer packaged goods… and a foot in the door of the beer industry. Before long his customers started asking if he could get non alcoholic craft beer, so he began approaching brewers to ask if that was something they’d like to make and was largely laughed at.With craft brewers not taking the idea seriously Ted rolled up his sleeves and got ready to find other solutions to this problem. A college in Ontario had recently started up a brewing program, and while he admits that Partake probably wasn’t the initial client that the college would have expected, it has worked out very well for both of them, allowing them to secure a government grant for R&D funds, and to bring in a microbiology PhD and a former head brewer from Labatt, which gave them a level of credibility they wouldn’t have had with a traditional contract brewer.Once Partake was up and running in 2017 one of the big hurdles to overcome was the consumer perception of non alcoholic beer, which was made brutally obvious to Ted when he was told at a trade show that his product was “the dumbest idea ever.” And with the state of the non alcoholic category at the time, this wasn’t surprising. After all, Ted says that early on he was kind of solving his own problem of wanting a tastier non alcoholic beer. Today Partake is available in a number of grocery and liquor stores across Canada including Sobey's, Safeway, Loblaw’s, and Superstore, has a small team in both Calgary and Toronto, and is preparing to expand into the US after having just raised $4,000,000USD in funding. It has become much more than just a non alcoholic beer that satisfies Ted’s tastebuds, and with a 2018 World Beer Awards win for best non alcoholic beer, Partake Brewing is changing the landscape of non alcoholic beer and bringing craft beer to a whole new group of people who can socialize the way they want to while still being true to the health and wellness goals.— The Kondrat Podcast: website | facebookAlberta Beer Festivals: website | twitter | instagramTed Fleming - Partake Brewing: website | twitter | instagram | facebook

A perfect pint of an episode! Tess joins Warren to talk about a magical machine called a Kegerator. This wonder of the beer world brought Tess, her partner and a dear friend the coldest of comforts fresh from a keg during the lockdown. Imagine 568 milliliters of beautiful TAP Social brew, freshly poured at home while all the pubs are shut. This Kegerator has also brought us yet another evening of wonderful conversation spanning Oxford bands, The World Beer Awards, foxes in the night and an education into a drink first brewed 5,000 years ago in the grasslands of southern Babylonia.

Hop Forward: Getting You Ahead in the Brewing and Beer Business
It's no secret that the hospitality industry, in places, has a problematic consumption of alcohol. Day for some are casually accompanied by beer from dawn till dusk, and excessive consumption of alcohol for those who work in brewing or hospitality is just one Imperial Stout away at the end of a long shift packaging or dispensing beer. But how does being around and working in beer and hospitality work when it comes to self-discipline and moderating your consumption? What’s an ‘appropriate’ level of weekly alcohol intake? Obviously, there are official medical guidelines issued, which you will find on packaged beer and - if you’re in the UK at drinkaware.co.uk - but also, without living in a totalitarian state, questions like these are up to each individual to answer for themselves. This is a subject that many brewers, bar-staff, and those in the business of beer sometimes shrug off. But deep down, we've all had darker moments when confronted by the reality that perhaps we are drinking too much. In today's episode of the Hop Forward Podcast - recorded during Dry January - I sat down with then-brewer for John Harvard's Brewery in Framingham MA, USA, Mike Souza, to have a frank and open conversation about alcoholism in the craft beer sector, and how some of the labels, which evoke powerful if somewhat negative images, are unhelpful when dealing with excessive consumption. If you are effected by today's episode and feel you need help, take a moment to visit The Drinks Trust; a charity that provides care and support to the people who form the drinks industry workforce. In light of our mindful drinking topic, today's brewery shoutouts go to two breweries who we believe are creating some of the best low-to-no ABV beers around: --- BIG DROP BREWING COMPANY Founded In 2016, Big Drop was the world’s first company to focus entirely on brewing Alcohol-Free craft beer. It’s all 0.5% ABV and they are now selling over 1 million bottles annually worldwide. Big Drop has so far picked up 26 international beer awards, including twice being judged the ‘World’s Best’ at the World Beer Awards, winning Gold at the US Open Beer Championship and, the ‘Holy Grail’ of any non-alcoholic drink, winning medals against full-strength rivals in blind tastings. The Core Range (Lager, Stout, IPA and Pale Ale) are now available in 330ml cans as well as bottles but they are also about to launch (1st June) two Summer Specials in 440ml cans – Poolside DDH IPA and Kodama IPA. Check out their website www.bigdropbrew.com for more or you can go straight to their webstore by visiting https://shop.bigdropbrew.com where you can enjoy an exclusive 10% discount for our listeners by using the code HopForward10 NIRVANA BREWING Nirvana Brewery was launched in 2017 by a family of beer lovers with a simple mission; to dedicate itself entirely to the creation of quality alcohol-free craft beers.
This weeks episode, is all about Goin' out West. Galway, is a city on the west coast of Ireland, that is world famous for a few things, it's Oyster Festival, it's Arts Festival, and of course the week of the Galway Races each July. Horses, Craic, and Gambling. It's home also to the Galway Bay Brewery, who recently, like many Irish sports teams, athletes, and food producers, have been punching above their weight on an international stage over the years. So much so they took home Bronze for their Sweet Milk Stout, Buried at Sea at the recent World Beer Cup. Those who fancied a flutter before hand could have even got the inside line if they found this article in time! It seems that every year when the Galway Bay Brewery bus tour was on, Janice & I would always be away. So it was just our luck this year when we were able to go on this years trip. So in this podcast, we're going to taste this award winning beer, and chat about the latest news in the Irish Beer Scene, and our most recent #Hopical topic. Aproveite!
