The Esplin family tragically lost their oldest child, Mason (he was 17 at the time), on March 13, 2020, due to injuries he sustained in a dirt bike accident. The grief of losing Mason has, at times, been all-consuming. Derrick has learned through Mason's passing that there are things that people can say that are helpful to a grieving parent, as well as things that should not be said. Suffering through the loss of a child is something that no parent is equipped to deal with and Derrick has learned that "it's ok to not be ok". He hopes to be able to provide some perspective for the grief and longing that accompanies child loss, as well as share some tips on what other people can say and do when they have family or friends that lose a child.
Jason Sisneros grew up being raised by an abusive criminal. At the age of 7, he was trying to protect his own mother from physical abuse. While recovering from physical abuse alone in his room, he decided what kind of man he would be when he was a father. Throughout his life, he has taken the experiences that could be seen as insurmountable and instead recognized that these experiences have made him exactly who he needs to be today. Jason's business and philanthropic endeavors all have their root in standing up for those who have had choice ripped unjustly from their lives. Through faith, mentorship and love for others, Jason has blessed the lives of thousands. Jason is involved with many organizations helping to eliminate food insecurity, child trafficking, domestic abuse and is an advocate for Veteran causes.
Erik Thompson is a beloved coach, mentor, father, son and husband. His impact on his community as head coach of the Ogden High Tigers has been immeasurable. Over the coarse of 27 years of coaching, his impact on the youth has been enormous. Erik has been diagnosed with ALS. While the effects of the disease have placed some physical limits on what he can do, his grit and determination to leave his mark on his family and his team has never been stronger. Brad Barton owns multiple world records in Masters Track and Field.
