"A wealthy and devout woman, she lived on the island of Aegina, but, when the Arabs over-ran the island, she moved to Salonica. There, she gave her only daughter to a monastery, where she received the monastic name Theopista. Her husband Theodorinus died very soon, and then Theodora became a nun. She was a great ascetic. She often heard angelic singing, and would say to her sisters: 'Don't you hear how wonderfully the angels are singing in heavenly light?' She entered into rest in 879, and a healing myrrh flowed from her body, which gave healing to many.

Clemson's first brewery has been a long time coming, and a long time working for the two co-owners who continue to juggle demanding full-time jobs in addition to getting Kite Hill Brewing Company off the ground after opening their doors in early July. The Clemson Dubcast goes on-site to interview the key players, including master brewer Mike Fuller. An avid Clemson fan and longtime Tigerillustrated.com subscriber, Fuller spent time out west and then the better part of nine years in Asheville. As he worked his way up the brewing ranks, he had a dream to return to Clemson and give the city its first brewery. Last December he answered an ad posted by co-owners Bobby Congdon and Bryon Leggett. Congdon is the assistant director of Clemson's Sonoco Institute of Packaging Design and Graphics. He's also married with two children. "I'm making it work now, working through some annual leave," Congdon said. "And I have a forgiving boss that likes beer. So that helps." Leggett has a background in chemical engineering and works in business development for a Wisconsin-based contract manufacturer, a job that consumes 50 hours a week by itself. He said he's worked 90 to 100 hours a week the last few months. He's married with a 9-month-old infant at home. Leggett and Congdon met as students while working for Clemson's student radio station. They both graduated in 1998. "Our vision is to have a community gathering space with something for everybody," Leggett said. "So it's not just about the beer." Congdon started home-brewing in 2005 inside an apartment not far from Kite Hill's present location in Patrick Square. "By the third batch we started talking about how cool it would be to open a brewery in Clemson," Congdon said. "That persisted for years and years, but common sense said 'Don't do that. That's insane.' But about four years ago I sent an e-mail to Bryon. I had been drinking beer, and I got the idea: 'We should actually do this!'"

We love Giannis, but he's dead wrong on this one. Staying in your comfort zone in a city where you are adored is easy; Joining a Super Team and accepting the ridicule and pressure that comes along with it is hard. Not everybody can handle the instant hatred and constant scrutiny that comes along when you take your career into your own hands and leave to greener pastures. Do you remember what LeBron James had to go through when he left the Cavaliers and took his talents to South Beach? Did you forget how quickly Kevin Durant became the most hated man in the NBA when he jumped ship to the Warriors? Later, Jason shares a quick thought on Oklahoma and Texas' plan to leave the Big-12 and join the SEC. We're not expecting it to happen, but the fact that they're trying to do it shouldn't come as a surprise. We saw something similar happen in European soccer a few months ago. Daily Emunah Podcast - Daily Emunah By Rabbi David Ashear

We always hope and pray for the outcome that we want in any given situation, but things don't always turn out the way we hoped. We may then feel that Hashem was not there for us during the time we needed him the most. If we only knew what was going on behind the scenes, we would never think like that. Rabbi Elimelech Biederman quoted the Netivot Shalom, who wrote- the love that a father has for his son becomes apparent during three different times in ascending order. The first and lowest is when the father is playing together with his son and he gives him a gift in his great love for him. The second is when the child is away and the father's heart is melting with love to be able to see him and hug him. The third and highest level is when a doctor needs to perform an emergency surgery on the child to save his life. The boy is trying to escape from fear of the pain. His loving father has to hold him tight with all of his might to keep him in place, or the father himself has to do the surgery, which causes his son so much pain. At that moment, the love the father has for his son is indescribable. His heart is burning on the inside with an eternal love, even though from the outside, it looks like he's doing an act of cruelty. When a person goes through a time of suffering in this world, that is when Hashem kavyachol is holding him the tightest. The love Hashem has for him at that time is indescribable, although from the outside it may appear otherwise. With the right perspective, a person can get through the hardest of times. Rabbi Mordechai Pogramansky was in the Kovno Ghetto during the Holocaust, and one day, he was walking in the street and saw a group of Jews broken spirited to the depths of their souls. He asked them why they were so down. Two of the men replied, "Isn't it obvious why?" The Rabbi then said, "Please allow me to ask you two questions. Number one, not too far from us, there are Nazi soldiers who want to kill Jews. Is that correct?" "Yes," they replied. "Number two, if those soldiers would kill Jews without being specifically commanded to, would they get into any kind of trouble for it?" The men replied, "No, they would most probably be praised for it." The Rabbi continued, "If the soldiers want to kill us and nobody is stopping them, then why aren't they? Must be because Hashem is in charge and at this time He is saying, 'Don't kill.' Those soldiers have absolutely no control whatsoever over our lives. If Hashem wants death, He will be the one to carry out, if that's what He deems as best. We have nobody to fear. We are always in Hashem's hands, the best possible place to be." Those two men ended up surviving the war and they would later relate that those words of the Rabbi gave them chizuk every moment they were there, up until they were finally freed. When a person comes to the realization that Hashem is always with him, he'll be able to remain at peace, even in the most difficult of times.

The mission of the Cassie Hines Shoes Cancer Foundation is to support young adults with cancer from the beginning of their battle to life beyond cancer. Engaging in support groups involving peer interaction, especially young adult cancer camps, can provide them with tools that will help them manage the emotional side of their battle and allow them to feel like they are back in charge of their own life."In January of 2012, Cassie was told by her oncologist, “There is nothing more that we can do.” The cancer had attacked her liver along with other vital organs and she was beginning liver failure. She went home in the care of hospice. The final 42 days of Cassie's life family and friends surrounded her. We told stories, asked questions, shared our fears, laughed and cried. Cassie wanted every young adult diagnosed with cancer to be able to experience it with the same peer support and sense of adventure she did. We knew it would be our job to make her dream a reality. We walked Cassie up to heaven's gate and she entered on March 1, 2012. Cassie's work here was done but ours was just beginning. While Cassie was at First Descents Camp she wrote a letter to herself that was mailed to her six months after the camp finished. She was at home in hospice care when it arrived. We read the letter together; in it she described the week and then gave herself some advice. She reminded herself to “Stay active, eat healthy but enjoy junk food every so often. Never stop dreaming, when you feel good and even when you feel crappy, make life an adventure.” The advice I liked the best was 'Don't take the easy road, take risks'."Learn more at the Cassie Hines Shoes Cancer website

'Don't be afraid for it is me who is knocking on the door' - Shila Nieves Burney (she/her/hers) In this episode, - Shila Nieves Burney (she/her/hers) shares her journey to step into a leader with a mission to empower underrepresented founders, and making a positive impact. We discussed: -How to move forward in presence of fear & failure - Her big 'why' to start Zane Venture Fund - How to be successful entrepreneurs See Shila's Bio here: Shila Nieves Burney (she/her/hers) an instigator and a catalyst who instigates critical changes in the capital universe and speeds it up with my drive, focus, connections, and mentoring. Shila Nieves Burney (she/her/hers) was compelled to create Zane Venture Fund because I'm committed to provide the platform that supports underrepresented founders in their quest to create thriving sustainable businesses that provide generational wealth opportunities for their families and their communities. Her mission to champion underrepresented founders rests on the foundations I've built throughout my career. It's a career that includes everything from leading organizations that foment change, including the Black Women's Health Initiative, to working with inner-city schools in the public education sector and their students to make sure those students had access to the programs and materials (including food and clothing) to be successful at school. This experience participating in and leading organizations that champion the human rights of people of color has given her an unequaled view into what it is to be overlooked. It has also accorded me a unique understanding of the importance of investing in human capital. All of this underlies my absolute determination to deliver solutions that address those disparities. To that end, in addition to Zane Venture Fund, she created Zane Access, the programmatic vehicle that delivers the access underrepresented founders need to build sustainable businesses and generational wealth. This includes access to peers, business experts, mentors, and investors, She has served as an Entrepreneur in Residence at Harvard Ventures, completed entrepreneurial programs at the University of California, Berkeley, speaking to women and student entrepreneurs at Cornell, MIT, and Georgia Tech.

We have a very fine second set this week from the Grateful Dead's performance at the Hartford Civic Center on April 18, 1982. While the show is known for the famous 'Earthquake Space' that Phil creates following drums, the interplay throughout is wonderful from all the members of the band and this fine recording captures that fun and joy completely. I would draw your attention in particular to the wonderful 'Samson and Delilah' here. Bob and Jerry really spice this one up wonderfully. It's a fine set list in its entirety including a nice 'Playin' In the Band' and 'Eyes of the World', the later a bit faster than its 70s versions but still having the capacity to make our spirts soar.  The post-drums setlist is no snoozer either, with 'The Other One' leading into a fine 'Black Peter'. 'Sugar Mag' leads into a nice 'Playin' reprise, and they end with a spirited 'Sugar Magnolia'. After all this I think they can be excused for the 'Don't Ease' encore ;)      Grateful Dead Hartford Civic Center Hartford, CT 4/18/82 - Sunday   Two     Cold Rain And Snow > Samson And Delilah ; Ship Of Fools ; Playing In The Band > Eyes Of The World > Drums > Space (1) > The Other One > Black Peter > Sugar Magnolia > Playing In The Band > Sunshine Daydream Encore     Don't Ease Me In Comments     (1) Earthquake Space  You can listen to this week's Deadpod here:  https://bit.ly/3dkRkB9 I hope this finds everyone doing well and feeling the warmth of Spring.  thank you for your kind support!
