Chad Lewis - Director of Technology at Tampa Preparatory School: VR, AR, Spatial Computing, and Technology in Kids' Lives. This is episode 564 of Teaching Learning Leading K12, an audio podcast. Chad Lewis has been the Director of Technology at Tampa Preparatory School in Tampa, Florida since August 2010.  He oversees all facets of technology at the school, from network infrastructure and security to educational technology and training.  Lewis was also responsible for the school's 1:1 iPad initiative; he designed and supervised the implementation of Tampa Prep's Active Learning Environment (ALEs) classroom design; and he created the IDEA (Innovate, Design, Explore, Apply) Lab, which was one of the first secondary VR creation labs in the nation.  In 2016, Lewis won the Tampa Bay Business Journal's Nonprofit CIO of the Year Award and the Tampa Bay Technology Forum's Industry Achievement Award for Technologist of the Year. Technology advancements have drastically transformed how we live, communicate, and conduct business globally. Northeast Mississippi Community College president Dr. Ricky G. Glaucia Rosas is an education technology leader and innovation catalyst who works in digital learning projects and in the school management field. She is a qualified teacher and holds a Business Management and Finance degree. She received her Masters degree from Johns Hopkins School of Education on Digital Age Learning and Educational Technology. During her career, she has specialised in School Management, School Leadership and Financial Management. Glaucia is a Microsoft Educator, an Apple Teacher and is in the process of being certified as an ISTE Educator (International Society of Technology in Education). As the former Head of Digital Learning at St. Paul's School, the prestigious British international school in Sao Paulo, Brazil, she designed and implemented the school's Digital Learning strategy, for which it received the Microsoft Showcase School and Apple Distinguished School awards for their innovative and creative use of technology in education. Aware of the challenges that the rest of the education sector was facing with technology, in 2020, Glaucia got together with James Wilkinson to found The EduTec Alliance. James was the school board member who had sponsored all her projects, for that he had spent 35 years travelling the world designing and implementing advanced technology solutions for major corporations. Their primary objective was to allow wider access to the winning strategies that they have applied at St. Paul's, and to provide the knowledgeable and affordable advice that has been lacking until now for schools. In episode 99, host Will Kollmeyer helps the college celebrate being named an Apple Distinguished School by welcoming vice president of instruction Dr. Michelle Baragona, chemistry teacher Jason Miller and Leigh Ann Stewart, who is in the Office of Disability Accommodations, to the podcast to talk about the ways that technology, especially the iPad, has changed the culture at Northeast. During her interview, Baragona talks about the process that started back in the Fall of 2015 with the oNE Northeast approach that helped lead up to the Apple Distinguished School award and how faculty have bought into the idea of having technology in the classroom. Not only has technology changed the way faculty teach, but it has also changed the way students learn in the classroom. In addition to changing the culture, it has also helped save students nearly $6 million in textbook costs as the college embraced Open Educational Resources. Chemistry instructor Jason Miller presents the faculty side of the technology revolution at Northeast and talks about how it has changed the way students take notes in his classroom and how it has helped them succeed in difficult subjects such as Chemistry. Leigh Ann Stewart gives the iPad a new dimension when she discusses how the iPad has allowed those with disabilities to get their college degrees. Stewart talks about two students, who just finished in the last year and if it was not for the iPad, neither would have been able to finish their degrees as fast as they did. Between the segments, Kollmeyer gives a rundown of events that are happening in the next 10 days and also mentions a few events to be on the lookout for later in the month.
