George A. Romero shaped modern horror, invented zombies as we know them, and is just an overall legend. Resident Evil is one of the most well-known horror franchises in the world. What would have happened if the two ever came together? We also talk about the Cape Fear series that is coming to Apple TV.Tony Todd is a horror icon. We wanted to cover one of his lesser known movies. It was not important if the film was “good” or not. We just wanted something that conveyed the essence of Todd. When we saw Hellblazers, we figured it was the perfect choice.Even forgetting whether it is good (spoiler alert: it isn't), it was a horrible choice. Todd is only given a pair of scenes; the sum total does not even equal five minutes. This is Hellblazers in a nutshell. There are lots of hints at a perfectly acceptable horror movie that instead leave the audience with lots of questions. Why is it set during Christmas? Why spend so much time discussing a dog that never shows up? Why show chicken fat? While we admit 1987's Street Trash is a cult classic filled with great special effects, we do not like it. Which is why we want into its remake with some skepticism. As it turns out, director Ryan Kruger surpasses everything the original did. It is raunchy, silly, and very very gory. This week on Friday Night Frightfest, we're delving into the grotesque and disturbing world of body horror. We'll be comparing two films that explore the horrifying consequences of medical experimentation gone awry: The Substance (2024) and Body Melt (1993). The Substance (2024) Elisabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore), renowned for an aerobics show and long career in Hollywood, faces a devastating blow on her 50th birthday as her boss fires her. Amid her distress, a laboratory offers her a substance which promises to transform her into an enhanced version of herself. Body Melt (1993) In this film directed by Philip Brophy and written by Brophy and Rod Bishop, the residents of Pebbles Court in the suburb of Homesville in Melbourne, Australia are the unknowing test subjects for a new variety of dietary supplement pills that arrive for free in their mailboxes. The pills are designed to produce the ultimate healthy human, but have unexpected side effects, including hallucinations and mutations. Join us as we explore the unsettling themes of body horror, experimentation, and the dangers of scientific advancement in these two disturbing films.

Splinter (2008), Thanatomorphose (2012), and Contracted (2013) When discussing films that deal with body horror, David Cronenberg and his work usually come up in the conversation. How can he not, when so many of his earlier films all dealt with some sort of body horror, mutations, and transformations? But there are plenty of films that go above and beyond (and even below) Cronenberg's impressive genre efforts... sometimes even making us wonder why we're watching them in the first place! Could it be that we just want to see how much grossness we can stomach? Or is there more to it? Body horror is one of the most horrific of horror's subgenres, tossing heaping handfuls of disgust into the usual bag of scares. And maybe it's the hangover from the recent global pandemic, maybe it's the fact that by a certain age all of us have watched someone close to us fight a serious illness, or maybe it's just built into us by Mother Nature, but there's something especially horrific about body horror from infection.  But what do we get from watching it? Disgust, discomfort, and maybe a deeper understanding of human experience and anxieties? We can for sure guarantee the first two- so let's dig in! Disclaimer: by the end of the episode, you will be forgiven if you catch yourself looking at your body in a full-length mirror thinking "well, at least no maggots fell out of there." Movies mentioned in this episode: Abigail (2024), Beyond the Darkness (1979), Body Melt (1993), Carcinoma (2014), Contracted (2013), Creepshow (1982), The Fly (1986), Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024), The Grudge 3 (2009), House of Wax (2005), Immaculate (2024), The Machinist (2004), Slime City (1988), Splinter (2008), Street Trash (1987), Thanatomorphose (2012), The Thing (1982), Toxic Avenger (1984)

In this week's episode, the FM3, get the hell out of Canada and find themselves in sunny Australia, the land of big bugs, jacked studs and ugly mugs! Well only ugly and jacked if you were one of the "actors" in the 1993 ozploitation film "Body Melt". For years the Forever Midnight Crew held high hopes that this movie would bring them a treasure trove of the grossest and goriest deaths to ever grace the silver screen. The holy grail if you will of juicy, slippery bodies turning into kangaroo stew movies.  But once again, Jef, Josh and Brian learn some hard lessons when it comes to getting their hopes up and how quickly their hopes can split open and turn to shit like an overcooked hot dog. Enjoy!
