Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals. As the final innings of a ESPN-broadcast pounding take place, Daniel (@C70) and David (@iPopEditor) take a look at some of the real concerning things that have taken place recently. How concerning is Ryan Helsley's meltdown against the BoSox? Should we expect anything from Miles Mikolas? What happens now that Ivan Herrera is heading to the IL? There's been some positives as well, but they are harder to find when the staff gives up double digits twice in three games. Come listen and see if they are in there!

Trouble in Boston between Rafael Devers and Alex Bregman.
The Mets and Yankees are already dealing with injuries. Gio is nervous about the high expectations for the Mets and doesn't like their new spring training hats. He also finds the Mrs. Met costume curvy and Rosie Red 'sexy'. A Delta plane flipped in Toronto, but no one died. Devers refuses to switch positions for Bregman. Gio was affected by the new Netflix docuseries on Gabby Petito.
On this week's episode, we begin by discussing the Red Sox making a huge splash by signing Alex Bregman to a three-year, $120 million contract. From there, we discuss Nick Pivetta heading to the Padres, Clayton Kershaw's return to the Dodgers, extensions for Mark Kotsay, J.J. Picollo, Cole Ragans, and Geraldo Pedromo, new homes for Justin Turner, Ty France, Paul DeJong, Joey Gallo, John Means, Jacob Junis, Kendell Graveman and Cal Quantrill, and the latest in the long-list of injuries for Anthony Rendon.
Jose Iglesias is leaving the Mets, and Luisangel Acuna may become a star. The Mets sent a batting helmet to display, but the Yankees haven't responded to the request. David Stearns talked about Pete Alonso and Iglesias' future. Gerrit Cole talked about why he opted back into the Yankees. Alex Bregman is going to the Red Sox. Saquon Barkley was on the Howard Stern show. Kadarius Toney was arrested. The Knicks beat the Hawks, and Villanova upset St. John's. The Bengals got rid of Lou Anarumo.
Walker Buehler is on his way to Boston on a 1 year deal - should the Dodgers have tried harded to keep him? We have intel on what the impasse between Teo Hernandez and the Dodgers' may be. Former NFL QB Erik Kramer joins us to talk about his harrowing story and a new NFL Films documentary about his life.
During the past two decades in Major League Baseball, only the Houston Astros have won pennants and appeared in more World Series than the Cardinals and Boston. Two of baseball's most accomplished and celebrated franchises have won four pennants each and faced each other twice in the World Series, both of them won by the BoSox. The ties that bind go beyond shared Octobers these days as both clubs, perennial contenders for most of baseball's current era, are trying to find their footing and return to their postseason expectations. Rob Bradford captured the connection in a brand new Best Podcast in Baseball. "Both franchises are starving to find the certainty," he said. Bradford, the host of the wildly popular podcast Baseball Isn't Boring, joins the next-best baseball podcast to discuss the shared traits of the Cardinals and Red Sox — and the one link that is about to define the Cardinals future. Bradford, the Red Sox reporter at WEEI in Boston, covered Chaim Bloom's tenure atop Boston's baseball operations, and Bradford talks through how the pressures and decisions on Bloom look different in hindsight. With Best Podcast in Baseball host and baseball writer Derrick Goold, Bradford discusses how Bloom's time at Fenway Park gives a glimpse into how he'll do when he takes over baseball ops at Busch Stadium a year from now. Bradford, who co-authored a book with former Cardinals pitcher Joe Kelly, also discusses the origin of their movement and his enthusiastic and entertaining podcast, Baseball Isn't Boring. Which it isn't. And this lively conversation about it aims to show why, right down to a tattoo promise Bradford and Kelly made that has now come due. The Best Podcast in Baseball, sponsored by Closets by Design of St. Louis, is a production of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, StlToday.com, and baseball writer Derrick Goold.

We talked about quarterbacks under pressure this season. Boomer said number 1 is Deshaun Watson because of what the Browns paid for him. Both Daneil Jones and Aaron Rodgers are both under pressure according to Gio. Boomer went through the rest of the list but Gio wasn't feeling it. Brady from California called in and he is incoherent. Jerry is here for an update and starts with the Yankees beating the Rangers as Stanton hit his 25th HR of the season. The Mets took game 1 from the Red Sox. Saquon Barkley talked about the upcoming game in Brazil. In the final segment of the hour, a caller wants the NFL to cancel the game in Brazil because of the free speech limits on its people in regards to the government banning Twitter.
The Toronto Blue Jays wrap up a grueling week with eight games in seven days, returning home after a labour day day-off as the Philadelphia Phillies head into town.We talked about the Danny Jansen game and the scorecard anomaly that it was including the two "debuts" you never knew happened. Plus, Bowden Francis stays hot as he allows one hit in 7.0 against the BoSox. And the Jays finally blew off some Postseason steam against the Minnesota Twins as they put up at 15-spot in Minny. After that, we talked about the future of George Springer and where we fits, (or doesn't fit), in the future plans of the Toronto Blue Jays. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
I need to be reminded, sometimes, just how much I love baseball. Wednesday was that day as we traveled to Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs punk the Twins and then watched the Royals rock the Bosox on the flight home. What a day. At Chiefs camp, Harrison Butker met with the media and he was brilliant, as always. And the Chiefs are set to play the Jags Saturday, we have a preview. Taylor Swift cancels her shows in Austria after two men are arrested for plotting a terror attack. Kamala is dodging the media as her running mate is under fire for stolen valor.
Former ESPN sportscaster Hal Chapman "Trey" Wingo III is just as arrogant as his name for posting comments about the Chiefs and kicker Harrison Butker's new contract. You have to hear what this lib thinks happened here. It's comical. The Red Sox pound out 18 hits to beat the Royals in game one of a wild card playoff spot showdown leaving me with one very heavy thought. A gorgeous swimmer from Uruguay finished 6th in the Butterfly and retired after her race. What she did after that was incredible and what the Olympics did to her is disgraceful. AI has spit out what it thinks the results of the regular season will look like in the NFL. Kamala Harris has picked far left Minnesota governer Tim Walz as her running mate and it's a horrible sign for her. She shouldn't be worried about Minnesota and she shouldn't be afraid to have taken a Jewish running mate in Pennsylvania's Josh Shapiro. This party is a mess. Or maybe Shapiro said no thanks. We'll discuss. Josh Hawley exposes the lead of the Secret Service detail that nearly got Trump killed, an HBCU professor tells the truth about immigration and black jobs and a rocker from KC is in trouble in LA.

The FAN Morning Show starts with hosts Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning looking back on the Boston Celtics' 18th NBA Championship. They dive into Boston's impressive postseason run and look at what made them so dominant; was it their depth or having a two superstars at the top? They also weigh in on if they could be poised to be the league's next “dynasty”, along with what's next for Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving after coming up short. In the back half of the hour, the morning duo chat about Blue Jays' latest loss to the Red Sox. They revisit preseason projections that had Boston at the bottom of the division, but yet this BoSox team seems to be better than Toronto in most aspects of the game. They also compare the club's two superstars and wonder if a contract similar to what Rafael Devers signed in Boston would be good enough for all involved (including fans) to keep Vlad Guerrero Jr in Toronto. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
The Mets are on a bit of a roll right now after sweeping the Padres. What will they do at the trade deadline? Gio doesn't think they will add players. At most, they will stand pat. Boomer thinks they could add players if they are in. There is still a long way to go. The trade deadline is six weeks away at the end of July. The Mets are 5-0 since Grimace threw out the first pitch. The Mets are also 9-3 since changing their X logo to the pride flag colors. They have been dubbed, on X, as ‘the gay Mets'. A caller explains what Grimace is in the world of McDonald's. Jerry returns for his final update of the day. He is going to play golf in Arizona because you can always guarantee nice weather. Jerry thinks it's ‘ugly' around here in the summertime. Jerry said you cannot count on good weather here, even in the summer. Jerry starts with the Yankees losing in Boston. The Yankees gave up 9 stolen bases. The Mets swept the Padres as Pete Alonso homered yesterday. Ronel Blanco threw 7 innings of no hit ball and was pulled because he reached 94 pitches. Angel Reese said the refs are not treating her team the same way they are treating Caitlin Clark. The Moment of The Day involves Bryson DeChambeau's ‘salty balls'. In the final segment of the show, Gio was playing around with the A-I that's built into Instagram.
The Mets are on a bit of a roll after sweeping the Padres this weekend. Boomer thinks they could actually be buyers instead of sellers at the trade deadline. Gio wonders what they'll do if they're on the fringe. ‘The Gay Mets are 9-3' is something Gio heard on The Warm Up Show with Al & Jerry. Since June is Pride Month, the Mets changed their logo on X to the pride flag colors. Since that happened, they are 9-3 and it is being discussed on X that way. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with the Yankees losing to the Red Sox in Boston. The Sox stole a franchise high 9 bases. The Mets swept the Padres as Pete Alonso homered yesterday. Mookie Betts was drilled in the hand by a pitch and Yamamoto has been put on the shelf. Bryson DeChambeau won the US Open. In the final segment of the hour, Evan Roberts has been making an effort to dress nicer. A caller thinks Boomer is passive aggressive with his Yankees hatred.
Russell Earl "Bucky" Dent is a retired Major League Baseball player and manager widely remembered by fans for his tenure with the New York Yankees … and his famous tie-breaking home run versus the Boston Red Sox at the end of the 1978 season. The St. Louis Cardinals originally selected Dent in the 1st round of the 1970 amateur draft but he did not sign with the team, allowing the Chicago White Sox to take him the 1st round (6th overall) of the June Secondary later that year. The right-handed shortstop spent four seasons (1973-1976) in Chicago, finishing second in 1974 Rookie of the Year balloting (behind Mike Hargrove). Bucky also appeared on the first of what would be three All-Star Game rosters (1975, 1980, 1981) while with the team. However, Dent had trouble successfully succeeded Luis Aparicio at short, compiling a .239 batting average and 209 RBI, and eventually was traded to the Yankees (1977-1982), where he became part of Bronx Bomber history. Dent hit a three-run homer that gave the Yankees a 3-2 lead in the 1978 AL East division play-off game versus the BoSox … an unlikely event as Dent had hit only 40 home runs in a dozen seasons in the big leagues. Dent batted .417 in that year's World Series, earning MVP honors as New York topped the Los Angeles Dodgers. At the end of his professional career, Bucky spent time with the Texas Rangers (1982-1983) and the Kansas City Royals (1984) before retiring with a .246 batting average and 423 RBI. He compiled a 36-52 record managing the Yankees at the end of the 1989 and beginning of the 1990 seasons.
Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story's season is over as he's having surgery for a fractured shoulder. We talked about some of the Mets homegrown players that have done well and some of the Yankees as well. We also talked about the Rangers/Islanders incident from the other night as they play each other again Saturday. Jerry returns for an update, but first we talked about the Masters website and how good it is and that got us thinking about the best websites out there. Jon Rahm met the media and it got uncomfortable when he was asked about LIV. The Yankees lost to the Marlins and Juan Soto talked about his first homestand as a Yankee. Adam Silver talked about players gambling on games that will get them banned for life. Aaron Rodgers was on a podcast and talked about Trump and Biden being terrible and that's why he's supporting Robert Kennedy Jr. He said the 2-party system doesn't work. He seemed to imply that the Clinton's killed JFK Jr, even though he died in a plane crash. Stephen A. Smith said that he and Molly Qerim are not a couple. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about WFAN's Masters coverage from over the years. A caller wonders if Matt Rempe plays by the code Boomer talks about. We also talked about the quarterbacks in the draft.

In Boston, the news said nobody seems to care about the Red Sox and their upcoming opening day.
We started the hour with a caller who agrees with Boomer regarding pitchers ERAs. Boomer thinks that since nobody throws 9 innings anymore, we need to adjust how we determine ERA. Boomer also talked about a parlay he's putting in and it involves his friend Phil Simms' alma mater, Morehead State. We got back into calls on Ohtani, his interpreter and the gambling situation. Jerry said maybe Ohtani isn't betting and the bookie gave the interpreter that much credit because he works for Ohtani. C-Lo returned for an update but first we took a call from ‘Carmine on Mulberry Street'. C-Lo said ESPN keeps updating its story with more details on Ohtani, his interpreter and bookies. Chris Russo was upset with Opening Day of baseball being on at 6am in Seoul. He said it's a ‘crime'. C-Lo has a Buzz or No Buzz: Aaron Judge & Giancarlo Stanton's performance last night. In Boston, the news said nobody seems to care about the Red Sox and their upcoming opening day. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer liked a joke on twitter involving Shohei Ohtani and Pete Rose.
From 'Breaking Boston' (subscribe here): The Red Sox season is mercifully coming to an end as the Sox drop a Thursday night showing of a little music about sending the birdies to the postseason and making all of Baltimore hum some 'Hairspray' this morning. Andy and Fitzy recap a pathetic season put together by Boston's club that was capped off by an all-time low week for Red Sox Nation. Hour 3 We start with a caller who wonders why the Jets left Aaron Rodgers exposed on the play he got injured on. Boomer said he held on to the ball too long, and that's what led to the sack. A caller reminds us that Zach Wilson hasn't made it through a season without getting hurt. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the Eagles beating the Vikings. Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown were arguing on the sideline even though they were winning the entire time. Al has some new Zach Wilson songs. Saquon Barkley said the Giants can't act like the sky is falling after one loss. Aaron Judge hit a grand slam last night in Boston. In the final segment of the hour, Gio MC'd a serious event last night and he almost did an ‘Anita Cox' joke. A soldier who was burned over 70% of his body became a stand-up comedian and performed at the event.
The last game of the so-called most important series of the season for the Blue Jays went about as well as the first three; another loss to complete the sweep at the hands of the Texas Rangers. The Blue Jays' American League East struggles continue at the hands of the Baltimore Orioles, dropping the series finale on Thursday. Next, Blake welcomes FanGraphs writer and "ZiPsetician" Dan Szymborski to dive deeper into some numbers around the league and how the Jays stack up (30:41). July 31 2004 - The long-anticipated trade of Nomar Garciaparra is finally accomplished as the Red Sox shortstop is traded to the Cubs in a four-team deal which includes the Twins and Expos. Chicago first acquires shortstop Orlando Cabrera from the Expos for shortstop Alex Gonzalez, relief pitcher Francis Beltran and minor leaguer Brendan Harris. July 31, 1990, Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan of the Texas Rangers wins the 300th game of his career. The podcast recording rotisserie moves back to Rocky's place (Eagle's Nest) for the next fiscal quarter, as the Bums kick of Bear-Packer week with a balanced dose of slander and hate mongering at the expense of cheddar nation, Paddy begrudingly previews his globally renowned “I did not know that” segment focused on the Bear-Packer rivalry (stupid numbers); silver-lining with the Bears Week 5 win against the beleaguered Las Vegas Raiders, other NFL Week 5 highlights are pondered, before talk bends to Scumbag of the Week, Jon “Chuckie” Gruden's and his chapped, racist, misogynistic ass (PRO-TIP: Treat all of your sent emails like everyone in the world can read them) and associated collateral damage to follow including owners, before closing chapter uno with an overview of MLB post-season action with the White Sox whimpering out in the first round (go BoSoX and fuck the cheating Astros), and finally, with the Bums take it to anti-vaxxer Kyrie Irving. Chapter Two opens with a Bums beer review — pulled the Eagles Nest refrigerator catacombs — a collaboration between Chicago's Old Irving Brewing and Hexe Coffee Co., Dark Incantation (ABV 8%), brewed with a blend of 8 grains, piloncillo (Mexican raw whole cane sugar), and Ecuadorian coffee; chatter moves to the Bums fall wedding anniversary train and related weekend junket in Lake Geneva, WI, where lots of general non-sense ensues, so don't miss a beat— tune-in to Episode 0036 for a boozy travelogue. Recorded, October 13, 2021 at B.O.M. northwest headquarters ‘The Eagle's Nest' in Chicago, IL USA.
