On episode 103 we welcome Yuki Chorney (00:13:04) to the On The Runs Podcast. Yuki, a passionate runner and costume enthusiast, shares her running journey and experiences in this episode. She started running races in 1996 and has since completed in 500 races, including marathons and ultra marathons. Yuki's love for running was influenced by her parents, who were avid runners themselves. She recalls her first big race, the Apple Fest half marathon, where her father planted the seed for her to qualify for the Boston Marathon. Yuki's dedication and training paid off, and she qualified for Boston in her first marathon. She shares her experiences of running races with her husband, Eric, and the challenges she faced along the way. Yuki shares her experiences running the Boston Marathon with her dad and her passion for creating elaborate costumes for races. She started running with her dad in the 1998 Boston Marathon and was inspired by the atmosphere and the challenge of the race. She took a break from marathons when she had children but eventually got back into running and started dressing up in costumes. Her costume design started with Girls on the Run, where she wanted to make running fun for the kids. She gradually started wearing costumes for other races as well, putting in a lot of time and effort to create elaborate and functional designs. Yuki's costumes often involve rhinestones and glitter, which can be time-consuming and messy to work with. She also spends a lot of time on makeup and face gems to complete her looks. Despite the challenges, Yuki's costumes have become a signature part of her running identity. Yuki also discusses her participation in ultra marathons and the unique experiences she has had in those races. Yuki reflects on the attention she has received from the media and how she embraces it as a way to bring joy and inspiration to others. Yuki shares a hilarious and embarrassing story about a Code Brown moment during a marathon. She also talks about her favorite Boston Marathon experience in 2014 and the incredible atmosphere of unity and resilience. Yuki dosn't reveal her costume idea for the upcoming Boston Marathon, but she shares an insider story of creating the costume and the mishap she had with her wristlets on last years costume. This is a can't miss episode with Yuki Chorney.During the Tros, Knute and Erika discuss their recent activities, including running, skiing, and watching the eclipse. They also tease that on Thursday's episode they will reveal the name of their podcast mascot. This is the first of four episodes where we have invited special guests and students from summer courses I teach at Canisius College. Students in these classes are graduate teacher candidates on the verge of student-teaching and/or newly inducted teachers in health and physical education. Today, we have asked special guests and students ahead of time to review articles regarding physical literacy so we can discuss how this construct specifically connects to physical education and local school communities as a whole. Dr. Chorney is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Education, Department of Secondary Education, at the University of Alberta. He is well respected as an outstanding, informed teacher educator at the provincial and national level and in 2014 was awarded the Rutherford Award of Excellence in undergraduate teaching, the University of Alberta's most prestigious teaching award.

The Grammys ceremony is happening on Sunday. After delays due to Covid and last week's epic fail at the Oscars, you might think the Grammy Awards will be conflict-free. Well then, you'd be wrong! My guest today is an artist named Linda Chorney. She's now a two-time Grammy nominee, but they didn't make it easy for her. Linda is an indy... an independent artist without any label affiliation. As such, she's a unicorn in the Grammy world. But her album "Emotional Jukebox" was nominated 10 years ago for Americana Album of the Year... She was attacked and threatened over it and, after it was all over, made a movie and wrote a book about what happened. Despite her experience a decade ago, she submitted her pandemic-written song, "Bored" for consideration this year and, at first, it appeared that lightning wouldn't strike twice. Until it did! Linda Chorney joins me today to talk about the whole experience, and show that the Oscars got nothing over the Grammys... And yes, she'll perform for us too!

Brandon, Manitoba is a relatively quiet town, I know because I lived there for five years of my life. I moved there in 2002 and only a few mere months after that Brandon would have a case that would shake them to their core. A grizzly missing persons case that would eventually turn into a murder case. I was there when the case was closed and all of the details would come to light. It was the talk of the town and there was plenty to talk about. Hello and welcome to episode 19 of Gone, But Never Forgotten, the murder of Erin Chorney. On this episode of Crusaders Pregame, hosts Zach Marks and Dawson Petryshen look back on the weekend split against the Brooks Bandits and Drumheller Dragons, and preview the third matchup in as many weeks against the Lloydminster Bobcats. Looking to bounce back from a 4-1 loss to the very same Bobcats, the Crusaders went into Brooks to take on the Bandits. With a three goal first period, goals coming from Dario Beljo, Aiden Fink and Hunter Wallace, the Bandits rode that wave to a 6-0 win. The very next night, the Cru headed to Drumheller, and had a much better result. Ashton McNelly opened the scoring with a nifty drop pass from Zac Maxwell, Myles Hilman tied things up 50 seconds into the second, but goals from Cale Ashcroft and Bruce MacGregor plus an empty netter from Bode Hagan sealed a 4-1 victory of their own. Marek Pocherewny was outstanding, making 32 saves. Dawson also had a chance to speak with forward Carter Chorney ahead of the weekend, to discuss his game since joing the team and how they need to get back on top of Lloydminster. Tune in to HockeyTV for all the action tonight at the Centennial Civic Centre in Lloydminster, or head over to Average Joes to catch the game, puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.

On this episode of Crusaders Pregame, hosts Zach Marks and Dawson Petryshen discuss Sherwood Park's struggles against the Spruce Grove Saints, and look at how they can bounce back against the slumping Drayton Valley Thunder. It was a very close contest on Friday and a low-scoring one at that. After a scoreless first, Cody Pisarczyk opened the gates, and Bruce MacGregor tied it at one late in the frame with his first goal in nearly 600 days. The third saw two Saints goals, and a flurry of Crusader chances, but Spruce Grove was able to hang on for the 3-1 decision. Gus Bylin made his fourth consecutive start, turning aside 22 shots in the loss. Dawson also had a chance to chat with new Sherwood Park acquisition Carter Chorney ahead of the Thunder matchup, about how he's fit himself into the lineup, especially on such short notice. Tune in to HockeyTV for all of the action tonight, at 7:30 p.m.

Today on the Inspired by HISstory segment is David Chorney. David is the owner of Financial Concepts Unlimited, an emerging abstract artist, and community participant. He considers being a community participant to not only mean contributing to the good of his local community but also to the world in a larger sense. With that, he created The WKOPDIWTB (What Kind Of Person Do I Want To Be?) Project. At the foundation of the project is a wristband and an associated website, with the wristband acting as a stylish reminder to live up to being the person you really desire to be. David’s philosophy is if the wristband helps one person make one better choice, it can help the world be a tiny bit better place to live. And if the wristband can help many people make better choices, it can, eventually, have a huge impact. For the March edition of Live From The Fort , Michael Chorney & Hollar General performs live from Studio One at the VPR headquarters in Colchester.
Grammy Nominee Chorney made history as the first truly independent artist to get nominated for a Grammy without a label, manager or publicist, for BEST AMERICANA ALBUM "EMOTIONAL JUKEBOX" for the 54th GRAMMY AWARDS. Her nomination was met with some controversy by the gatekeepers. She embraced it, and wrote her first book. Next she's going for an Oscar to piss them off, too! Highlights in her career thus far are singing for Nelson Mandela, in front of a crowd of 250,000 humans. And of course playing in Sports bars where no one is listening. She just released her first book, "Who the F*#% Is Linda Chorney?!", and is going for the Pulitzer. Sounds quite self-absorbed, wouldn't you say? Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting, but sometimes, putting it to music does.
An interview with one of Vermont's finest musician composers. Plus? He sings.
