I recently listened to a Short Story Long Podcast where Chris Drama Pfaff interviewed Byron Katie. I was so blown away by Katie’s perspective and what she calls, “the work”, that I’ve been binge watching her interviews and audiobook... “Loving What Is”. Katie sheds light on the fact that suffering is optional. In other words, our stress, anxiety and depression is based on what we believe to be true... even if it not! What she calls “the work,” is a series of 4 questions and a turn around that helps people get to the root of what “is” instead of believe a made-up story that we’ve created from this air. On this episode I share a real life situation in my relationship where I apply Katie's questions to get to the root of my frustration. Spoiler alert: my frustration has nothing to do with my wife and everything to do with my instinct to blame her for my problems. One of the reasons I find Katie's work so attractive is, it feels very similar to the twelve steps. You're basically work steps 4-10 in just a few questions. Start with writing down your resentments, figure out your part then amend your behavior. The goal with both processes is to take ultimate responsibility for your own thoughts, feelings, attitudes and behavior. I can't tell you enough how powerful this work can be for your life. Take a listen and see what you think for yourself. Here are a few of my favorites 1. Byron Katie - Short Story Long Podcast 2. For those in recovery: Byron Katie - Under The Skin with Russell Brand 3. Byron Katie - Prison of the Mind video on YouTube. 4 Book/Audiobook - Loving What Is by Byron Katie. I'd love to hear from you. Let me know what you think. k.preston.moore@gmail.com
This guy isn’t busy at all (sarcasm alert): The CEO of Los Angeles-based Five Four Group works tirelessly building a slew of fashion brands (including Menlo Club, Young & Reckless, Grand Athletic Club, New Republic). He also chimes in regularly on his own podcast, DEETOUR, as well as a thrice-weekly news show with his business partners — Chris ‘Drama’ Pfaff and his brother Anand — called Group Chat. But back in 2007, life looked really different. Struggling to keep his business afloat during the financial crisis, Murthy decided to do some self-work and sign up for a triathlon. That race happened at a critical point for him, and come 2014, Murthy and his team were launching more and more brands and he was really coming into his own. In episode 73, we talk about what he says is the single best thing he's done in his career — create a run club to coincide with his athletic wear brand — and how that has changed him as a business person. The serial entrepreneur offers up must-hear advice for anyone struggling to find their way, and we share a bunch of laughs along the way. Today's episode is with Chris “Drama” Pfaff. In 2009 at age 22, with no background in business or fashion, he launched a t-shirt and streetwear line, Young & Reckless, which has grown into a nationwide brand, with distribution in more than 3,000 Macy's, Dillard's and PacSun stores, celebrity endorsements from Puff Daddy and Justin Bieber, 43 employees, and $31 million in revenue last year. ."I fell off my skateboard and fractured my skull. I had a brain hemorrhage and I was in a coma for four days. There were no long-term effects but I was like, I don't think this is what I should do. Then I thought I'd move to LA, get a studio apartment and work in a skate shop. That was my dream come true” In this episode we discuss: 1. Drama's upbringing 2. How he built his brand into what it is today3. His traumatic accident and that lead to him being in a coma for four days4. His opinion on entrepreneurship today5. Chris ‘Drama’ Pfaff grew up with his feet glued to a skateboard in the heartland of Akron, OH, while his head dreamed of coming to California, the true skater’s Mecca. He rode his board, and the success of his cousin Rob Dydek -- a pro skateboarder and TV star from Rob & Big and Rob & Big’s Fantasy Factory – all the way from Akron to L.A. and didn’t rest on his laurels when he got here.Once ensconced in Los Angeles, Chris was able to capitalize on his contacts, and an old-fashioned work ethic, to fulfill his lifelong dream of starting his own clothing line – which became the extremely popular street-wear brand we know as Young & Reckless.Jordan and Drama discuss the mistakes they have made in business, and in life, and share what they’ve learned from them that has taken them to where they are today. If you are someone who is looking to be successful in any aspect of life, you should pay close attention to this podcast and learn the secrets of two masters. “Don’t be a creature of circumstance, become a creator of circumstance,” the Wolf tells us. A decade ago, Drama got his first taste of entrepreneurship when his professional skateboarding second-cousin, Rob Dyrdek, brought him out from his hometown in Ohio to Los Angeles to be his assistant. What came next, was a role as a personality on Rob’s reality TV show Rob & Big. Airing on MTV, it lasted three seasons until Rob’s new show Fantasy Factory replaced it. On the new show, Drama played a more boosted character role that would eventually give him the platform to one day create something of his own.

I listened to one of my favorite podcasts, Short Story Long with Chris Drama Pfaff and he interviewed a guy named Dr Joe Despinza. Dr Joe has written numerous books like You Are The Placebo and Becoming Supernatural. He has an interesting background and his quest all started when he healed a terrible back injury with thinking and visualization... even though 4 specialists said the only option was surgery. The thing that stuck out to me the most during the interview was when he said, if you don’t plan your future you are destined to continue to cement your past (I’m paraphrasing). He hammers home the significance of consistently connecting your thoughts with the feelings associated with the results you want as if they’ve happened for you already. Lately, I’ve been hyper aware of how much crap I talk to myself and others... ALL in my head! It’s usually always negative and I end up creating some of the exact situations I say I don’t want. I also address how my impatience and entitlement get in the way of my own joy and satisfaction in life. I hope you enjoy the perspective and look up Dr Joe Despinza on the Short Story Long Podcast with Chris Drama Pfaff.

Chris “Drama” Pfaff in an entrepreneur and brand operator who has been “causing drama” since his days in Akron, Ohio, growing up passionately in love with skateboarding. And while his talent didn’t let him go pro, he knew he wanted to be involved in the industry in whatever way possible. After turning eighteen, he planned to move to Los Angeles (the skateboarding capital of the world), but that was delayed after he survived a catastrophic accident that left him in a coma for four days. Finally, he was able to move to LA to become the assistant to his cousin, pro skater and reality TV star Rob Dyrdek. In 2009, Chris turned his experiences and opportunity as a reality TV star to create and market his clothing line, Young & Reckless: a stylish streetwear-inspired brand for young people that anyone can get at an affordable price. Young & Reckless is sold in more than 3,000 stores including PacSun, Macy’s, and its own online store. On this episode we talk about his journey from skateboading to reality TV to entrepreneurship. Check this out. Continually creating content and executing innovative ideas, in 2016, Chris began creating new platforms for himself and his brand with his podcast, Short Story Long. http://www.YoungandReckless.com
