Marriage is hard – divorce is hard. Obesity is hard – being fit is hard. Being in debt is hard – being financially disciplined is hard. Communication is hard. Not communicating is hard. Choose your hard. Life will never be easy – it will always be “hard” – the way it should be because we should respect what we earn; however, we can choose our “hard”! During Podcast #51 Coach Robb describes his personal experience of choosing his hard and walks through the four attributes associated with what defines “hard” - perception, attitude, intent and approach. For the second half of the show, grab a piece of paper and get ready to jot down the six imperative steps to establishing a blueprint for overcoming and embracing your “hard”. Coach Robb doesn’t guarantee that the physical and mental effort is going to be easier, because nothing good in life comes easy! Instead, he does promise that with a slightly different perspective, a change of attitude, having clarity of intent, and following a definitive strategy, you will enjoy the fruits of your mental and physical labor and the best that life has to offer in all four quadrants of life - personally, professionally, financially, as well as your health, wellness and athletic performance. Yours in sport & health, -Coach Robb, Coaches & Staff

This podcast is an extra special episode of Cooksey and The Coach, Robb joined Cooksey in his Las Vegas studio. Robb and Cooksey live on opposite sides of the country, so having them in a studio is rare, but it made an entertaining show. They talked about Eli Tomac and if he should have let his teammate Adam Cianciarulo win the second moto at Lakewood. They touched on Garrett Marchbanks's new team, and Cooksey was less than pleased with Garrett's agent. They discussed the past weekend at Western Raceway, where Coach Robb held a performance camp and used Cooksey and Johnny Hopper as riding coaches. If you have followed Coach Robb for any period of time, you know that he is a big advocate of the heart rate monitor as a resource for identifying signs of excessive stress before an athlete feels run down (i.e. suppressed appetite, decreased athletic performance, poor sleep, injured, etc.) During this podcast, Coach Robb walks through three areas within the Garmin Dashboard designed to help you evaluate your sleep, exercise activities, and your body’s overall stress levels. These three areas are the foundation for dropping body fat, improving strength & endurance, and keeping you in that sweet spot of incremental improvement. By using the heart rate monitor and the heart rate evaluation tools, you will ensure that your body is not in a mode of over or under training which results in injury, sickness or burnout (mentally and/or physically). As a female looking to improve her health and athletic performance, there is nothing more frustrating than the abundance of information that contradicts itself constantly: fat is good – fat is bad; protein is good – protein is bad; lift heavy weights – don’t lift heavy weights; cardio is good – cardio is bad; stretch – don’t stretch, etc. There is no doubt that the female anatomy and hormones are different than the male counterpart, but how, and in what ways? During this podcast, Coach Robb answers specific questions that were sent in from Snow Bike Girls’ founder Jackie Riess and the Snow Bike Girls community. Although these questions are directed towards riding and racing motorcycles and snowbikes, the information is relevant to females of all sports. Select questions include: How does strength differ between women and men and what does a female need to do to offset the differences? How do I build muscle without looking masculine? How do I address the frustrations of mistakes and failures? Is nutrition different for women? How do I address nutrition on race day when I get nervous and get sick to my stomach? How do I handle being told that as a woman I will never be an athlete? Is muscle configuration different between men and women? How do I approach the challenges of pushing/pulling heavy loads verses speed and agility in my training? Was Psychologist Abraham Maslow wrong when he created his Hierarchy of Needs? When you look at the human race and our desire to reach our fullest potential (financially, professionally, personally and athletically) we have the flow pattern completely upside down – Maslow was correct! When working with individuals around the world, there is one constant word that comes up when desirable goals don’t become a reality – weak. Comments like I wasn’t “tough” enough and I “quit” – most interpret this as being “weak”. It is actually quite the contrary. It’s not you that is “weak”. YOU had the mental toughness to make a commitment to improvement, and ultimately excellence. Most likely, the weakness is in the infrastructure that kept you from staying on track. Grab a piece of paper – jot down these 20 steps to eliminate weaknesses and then go back and prioritize according to where you can get the most out of your efforts. Listener questions included: “How do I create balanced meals?”, “Can athletes perform better on a plant based diet?”; “Can you provide suggestions on how to set up a week of strength training without becoming burnt out and/or injured?”; “Should I train outdoors when the air quality is poor?”; and, “How can I improve nutritional absorption while under stressful situations?”. As you go through each day, your mental decisions and actions fall into a mixture of four quadrants: Personal, Professional-Educational, Financial and Heath/Wellness/Performance. During this podcast, Coach Robb discusses the difference between simply surviving from day-to-day and thriving on a daily basis for maximum productivity and happiness. If you were to wake up tomorrow independently wealthy, answer these three questions: What would you eat all day long? What would you do with your time until you went back to bed? Who would you spend your time with all day and night? Like all Coach Robb podcasts, the catalyst behind this subject is the number of emails and phone calls that Coach Robb and his staff receive regarding the struggles of “just getting through a day”. The end results are individuals that are tired, frustrated and not achieving their full potential, often making it harder and harder to get out of bed each day motivated. Whether you are young and uneducated about the specifics of these four quadrants of life, someone in a mid-life situation that is feeling the by-product of poor choices, or in your golden years trying to fix mid-life mistakes, this podcast will help you align your situation with your desired outcome - living life as if you were independently wealthy. Coach Robb walks you through his 7 Habits Necessary to Thrive NOT Survive and discusses how aligning your perspective and actions will put you on the path to a simple, sustainable path to thriving! Listener’s questions include: Why is diaphragmic breathing so relaxing?. Why doesn’t Coach Robb recommend eating the first hour of exercise?; Why are canned black beans included in Coach Robb’s cookbook and snack books?; What should a young student study to do what Coach Robb does?; and, Why os Coach Robb so adamant about training and racing with a heart rate monitor? There is literally an epidemic of burnout, injury and illness regarding the health of individuals and athletes of all ages, mainly due to the lack of knowledge amongst parents and coaches alike. Parents and athletes put their trust into individuals (aka “Coaches”) that claim they know what is right for the athlete (regardless of sport or age) only to find that their athlete is being over trained and threatened if they ask WHY they are training the way they are. During this podcast, Coach Robb addresses a listener’s email regarding an elite tennis coach who actually advocates fast food for his athletes and provides insight into why the statement is not only absurd, but is both unhealthy and dangerous for athletes and non-athletes alike. Coach Robb also discusses the importance of understanding the WHY behind performance frustrations - whether a triathlete, baseball player, runner, motocross racer, or someone wanting to drop body fat once and for all. By drilling down on the source of the frustration and addressing the WHY (instead of simply following a generic training plan), athletes can learn to train with specificity, make performance gains, and avoid injury and/or exhaustion. Note: Per the requests of listeners, Coach Robb will be doing podcasts specific to sports in future shows. If you have a question or frustration specific to your favorite sport/discipline, please email them to Christy at Contact@CoachRobb.com to ensure that he addresses them. Listener questions include: “How do I stop the craving of simple sugar?”; “How do I improve strength to weight ratios specific to Ironman triathlon training?”; “Which is more efficient – standing or sitting while climbing on the bike?”; “What should I do to improve baseball specific speed?”; “Why did I run out of energy while doing the 2-Week Food Challenge and the 3-2-1 Walk Challenge?” Here are the Amazon links to Coach Robb’s books on Kindle and Paperback: Coach Robb’s Smoothie Recipe Book – on Kindle and in Paperback https://www.amazon.com/Coach-Robbs-Smoothie-Recipe-Book-ebook/dp/B07R26DMCZ/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_2?keywords=Coach+Robb%27s+Smoothie+Cookbook&qid=1557491306&s=gateway&sr=8-2-fkmrnull Coach Robb’s Healthy Meals Recipe Book – on Kindle and in Paperback https://www.amazon.com/Coach-Robbs-Healthy-Meals-Recipe/dp/1095573381/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?keywords=Coach+Robb%27s+Smoothie+Cookbook&qid=1557491397&s=gateway&sr=8-1-fkmr0 Coach Robb’s Additional Websites & Resources: CoachRobb.com CoachRobbStore.com NutritionallyGreen.com CompleteRacingSolutions.com CompleteRunningSolutions.com CompleteTriathlonSolutions.com CompleteSwimmingSolutions.com CompleteWeightLossSolutions.com
Behind every achievement in life, there has to be a commitment to the work and sweat equity necessary to complete each milestone associated with accomplishment. However, knowing when to rest, when to push moderately and when to give 100% is the million dollar question that has to be asked and answered on a daily basis to avoid crossing over that fine line into mental and physical fatigue and ultimately tapping out of the journey to reaching your fullest potential. During this podcast, Coach Robb outlines how the body and the brain go round after round fighting to achieve the delicate balance of health and performance. We know that performance milestones are necessary to achieve anything great, but when is too much? And when do we have to be responsible enough to say this is adversely affecting my health? On the flip side, how do we know when it is time to really push the tissue? Grab a couple pieces of paper and jot down some notes as Coach Robb walks you through the three stages of physical adaptation, three stages of mental achievement, and how to evaluate the fine line between achievement and self sacrifice. Coach Robb wraps up the podcast by illustrating to you the long term benefits and/or costs associated with what you are doing TODAY! Listen, take some notes and start turning your daily efforts into long term success in a manner that is both healthy and sustainable. Listener’s questions include: What can be done to improve deep sleep duration for optimized recovery? How do you keep yourself from getting sick? Why does a smoothie work better on my stomach than solid food? Why are running time trials slower in a humid environment? and why is there conflicting information about ice and/or heat, along with anti-inflammatories? When it comes to getting through a week, nothing is more exhausting than being mentally spent. There are numerous articles and videos out there addressing how to offset muscular fatigue, but during podcast #35, Coach Robb takes a look at the big 10-pound muscle on top of your shoulders – your brain – and helps you get a clear understanding why mental fatigue sneaks up on you when you least expect it! During the first half of the podcast, Coach Robb drills down on the question “What is the last thing you wrote down and created a strategy to achieve in the last thirty days?”. After answering this question, he challenges listeners to identify what rewards were attached to the achievement. Over the last 35 years of working with individuals and athletes, Coach Robb has never had an individual answer this question with a definitive answer. When it comes to the physical signs of fatigue such as tired muscles, cramping, slower speeds, less strength, etc. we know what to do – eat and sleep to recover. But, when it comes to mental fatigue, many of us are stumped. The symptoms are obvious – feelings of being lazy, frustrated, aggravated or even depressed, but the steps to turning around the symptoms are not quite so easy. Coach Robb looks at three critical components of mental frustration: not having a quantified and/or detailed achievement; never feeling like your results are “good enough”; and, constantly feeling dissatisfied (i.e. thinking it’s cool to be pissed all the time – “that sucked”) because you keep moving the target identified as “good enough”. During the second half of the podcast, Coach Robb does a deep dive into the four quadrants of life that we all balance on a daily basis (sometimes not even realizing it) – Personal (food, sleep, sexual intimacy), Professional/School, Financial, and Health, Wellness & Performance. Though we get on the daily hamster wheel, we rarely stop to answer questions like What does my perfect day look like? What is my definition of perfect result? and, What is my reward for accomplishing my desired result? The result is the vicious cycle of never being satisfied (or achieving a quantified achievement) which begins to wear the brain out – literally. By the end of the podcast you will understand the difference between physical and mental rejuvenation and what you can do to offset the negative effects of mental exhaustion. You will also be equipped to take an intangible feeling or emotion and create a tangible achievement. This is something your brain can resonate with and feels rewarded when implemented correctly. Listener questions include: What should I eat during my races to avoid getting physically sick?; What do I do about a know in my rib cage that keeps me from breathing deeply?; What do I do to avoid getting up 2-3 times a night to urinate along with struggling to fall back asleep when I am finished?; What is the ideal sleep cycle? and, What do I do when my schedule keeps me from completing today’s workout – discard or move to tomorrow? Sex and Sleep Changes Everything! This podcast episode is a result of numerous emails that have come in since the beginning of the year from excited (no pun intended) new clients who have enjoyed deeper levels of sleep and associated benefits (less anxiety, lower body fat, improved athletic performance, more energy, etc.) after Coach Robb recommended that they get sex back into their normal routine (the more frequent the better)! Show DisclosureIf you have young ears that can hear this podcast, please be aware that we are going to be talking about sex in numerous ways and we don’t want to offend anyone. We are asking that you listen to this podcast with a mature mindset and recognize that our conversation about sexual behavior and how it translates into better health, wellness and performance (both in and out of the bedroom) will be uncensored. Initially, Coach Robb gives a physiological explanation of the sex drive and how it isn’t something that you can turn on and off but rather is a by product of your brain and hormonal system communicating with each other (when healthy) to create a consistent sex drive. Though the act of sexual relations (specifically orgasms) can be enjoyable, Coach Robb explains the health benefits associated with having orgasms and why having them two times a week can actually improve your immune system. If you have been dealing with reduced sex drive, fatigue, moodiness, low strength and endurance levels, night sweats, insomnia, etc. for a long period of time, you may now be in a mode of exhaustion where your coping system in your body relevant to stress - the adrenals, are being either over worked or under fueled. The chronic overload and/or under fueling of the adrenals results in an adrenal system that is burnt out and not able to execute its job of excreting the hormones necessary for dealing with stress, improving energy and decreasing unwanted body fat. Coach Robb provides five key actions that you can implement immediately to turn adrenal fatigue disorders and symptoms around naturally and without purchasing anything. These five actions will help establish a foundation that Coach Robb refers to as the square of life: personal, professional, financial and athletic. Whether you are looking to improve your overall health or wanting to improve your athletic performance, when you successfully incorporate all five actions in a consistent manner your body will begin to sleep better, recover stronger, have more energy and less incidents of illness and injuries while building lean muscle mass and dropping unwanted body fat in a consistent, sustainable manner without any regressions or setbacks. Listener’s questions included: Why are heart rate numbers so much different between training and racing; should a young soccer player use performance enhancing drugs; how do acceleration intervals help improve my sprint speed; how to incorporate moto specific protocols to open practice; why my knees hurt in racing but not in training (running specific); how to improve sleep quality and ease of falling asleep at the end of a long day. In Podcast #23 Coach Robb sheds insight into how the Ketogenic Diet (a.k.a. Keto Diet) originated and how this suggested way of eating has some immediate benefits, but also long-term consequences. He also discusses the similarities of the Keto Diet and past “popular diets and systems” that focus on one element of nutrition, take it out of context, and market that element as a brand new idea that is revolutionizing the way humans should eat to shed body fat and improve performance. As they say, everything old becomes new again, and after hearing Coach Robb take a deep dive on the Keto Diet, you will see how there is a much simpler and sustainable way to eat to drop those unwanted pounds of body fat without sacrificing your foundation of health and wellness. During the second half of the podcast, Coach Robb explains what intermittent fasting is and how the body adjusts and adapts to short periods of complete fasting (eating no calories at all). In addition to the pros and cons of intermittent fasting, he explains that if you implement fasting, of any duration, at the wrong time, the consequences could be quite substantial. If you have read about fasting and wondered if this process is good for you, grab a piece of paper and jot down some notes.
