In the summer of 2000, celebrated animation UK animation studio Aardman Animations released their first feature-length film in cinemas around the world. Chicken Run was a phenomenal success, becoming the highest-grossing stop-motion animation movie of all time. We're going back 23 years to look at the game based on that very movie. Yep. We're talking Chicken Run.On this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we look at the Oliver Twins and their journey from bedroom developers to Blitz Games (the studio behind this particular movie tie-in). We also talk about the Game Boy Color version because why not, and how Chicken Run is the game that beat Colm's research methods. In our review you'll hear some chat on Metal Gear Solid But For Kids, the efficacy of confusing dogs with brussel sprouts, Harry Gregson-Williams, thieving from other games, the very odd choices made around the exceptionally awkward camera, losing quest-pivotal items when you're caughts, happy running around vibes, love for '00s style mini-games, disdain for '00s style mini-games, International Track & Field, the Bunty Eggs-Press, SPALL FACT, the realisation of Tweedy's Farm, an awful retelling of a great story, whether or not people might've played the game without seeing the movie, the little hits of joy when you play sequences that are only briefly mentioned in the film, Enter The Matrix, loading screens and the lovely-looking main menu. After all that, the lads take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then they give their final verdicts on whether Chicken Run is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those who would like to play along at home, we'll be discussing, reviewing and dissecting every single game we've reviewed this year on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom. Because the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom is going to be our Game of the Year 2023 episode, otherwise known as the inaugural edition of the Boomies!IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS

Season Four Episode 1This episode is a sequel! It's a follow up to last year's "Contagious Laugh-ers" compilation. Including: Ryan Sickler, Your Mom's House studios, Nadiv (former YMH producer, in memorium), Tom Segura, Joey Diaz, the NBA-On-TNT crew and UK Comedian Jamie Hutchinson (Havin' a quick wank). Sickler and company join Artie Lange, Dom DeLuise, Burt Reynolds and Ricky Gervais in the Contagious Laughter Hall of Fame. The 2022 Red Bull Imagination competition went even bigger compared to the previous years! Tyler Bereman and co built upon the past 2 years courses to produce something special and the crowning glory was Tyler sacking up and sending this huge 180 feet transfer jump which blew everyone's minds! This episode is taken from the Companion video which I joined on for the Two Wheels to Freedom channel with Clint Esposito. So we get to repurpose the audio clip for you guys here who are listening on podcasts while you're building your own jumps in a dozer or wherever you are. Again, it makes more sense to probably watch this on YouTube so you can catch it here: https://youtu.be/viNwjNyGICw What was your favourite part of the comp? Pod45 is the discursive cultural criticism podcast from Post45: Contemporaries. This episode is the first of two discussions responding to our recent Ali Smith Now cluster, which takes the publication of Smith's latest novel Companion Piece as an opportunity to reflect on her unique oeuvre. Contemporaries editorial team members Gloria Fisk and Francisco Robles sit down for a conversation with cluster editors Debra Rae Cohen and Cara L. Lewis, alongside Deidre Lynch and Amy Elkins, who collaborated on a piece for the cluster. The novel form, technologies of reading, connection and disconnection, collaboration and collegiality, aesthetics and politics, nature and art(ifice), irony and enchantment, joy and love and rapture: our panel bagatelle it as they see it on all these subjects and more. Part two of Ali Smith Now will follow next week. You can read the Ali Smith Now cluster at Post45: Contemporaries now: https://post45.org/sections/contemporaries-essays/ali-smith-now/

Ali Smith's new book Companion Piece has just been published, but we're actually reviewing an older book of hers: There But For The. We talk about the structure of this novel-in-stories and how it differs in form from Egan's A Visit from the Goon Squad. We also talk about why this very good novel may not have widespread appeal and how voice and race comes into play in a book not overtly about race. For this series, we will read and discuss three novels-in-stories: Jennifer Egan's A Visit from the Goon Squad Mar 25 - Apr 8, Ali Smith's There But For The Apr 15- 29, and Anthony Marra's The Tsar of Love and Techno May 6 - 20. All books respond to the world we live in but in this fascinating episode we speak to three incredible authors who have all written books which speak to something absolutely of this time and very often beyond it. How much has the pandemic changed the way we view the world and each other, what about the impact of technology, and what does the future hold? As promised, Chad and I get DIRECTLY to the shits in this part of the interview. We talk about the concept behind his perfectly titled: There's Always a Girl Story and how that came about. We talk about the always interesting topic of dating as a single dad and the ever important question of, "What about bringing your child around your potential partner???". We actually do a lot of talking about relationship dynamics in general and what each of us thinks makes a relationship tick and what it takes to keep one going. Chad is also kind enough to share a snippet of one of the songs off of his album which I personally can't wait to hear all of. The concept and projects he has planned around it are brilliant in my opinion. Find Chad on all Instagram @imchadmilner. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/singledadreboot/message

The 99th Episode of The People's Podcast follows up on last month's controversial #EbonySTILLOwes topic (spoiler alert: They STILL Owe). Jay talks about the fallout from the episode, explains in more detail why he did it, talks about how the companion piece ended up on Medium (Link Below) and further expands on how Ebony is still jerking people around. Then we shift gears and talk about the need for better leadership in not only media, but in business in general. Why there is a big difference between being "In Charge" and being a "Leader," going at my industry for its fear of being real about Racism...Plus he has a word to the wise for those of you headed to Miami for #NABJ19. The lessons continue as we're back at Calypso's school for Early Baby - a chance to relive our own more marathon-like labour ward experiences (wish we'd gone to Dr Bluey!), and revel in the fact that even Steiner school kids fight sometimes (phew!) Also, is #bravery trending right now? Mary's seeing it on tshirts everywhere, but wants it distributed equally between the boys and the girls - just like this episode does! (Also, a bonus DIY for guerrilla parenting for equality a la Clementine Ford.) And what does Brene Brown have to do with it? Kate can make it all fit together! Then, how exactly do you get kids to listen long enough to understand different viewpoints? And can storytelling help? (Although Mary wants to hear the sausage dog/dragon's point of view - like this Sesame Street clip that extends to dragon feelings!) Finally, we can't work out from re-watching the episode if Indi's "for real life" early baby is her little sister or her little niece - so if Joe Brumm could clarify that in his next public letter, much appreciated! ++ Gotta Be Done is ex-journos and Melbourne mums Kate McMahon and Mary Bolling, as we deep-dive on every Bluey episode, with plenty of detours into mama life, childhood memories, and everything else we're bingeing, too! This is a little companion piece for our Boromir Episode. This is a poem made up on the spot by Aragorn and Legolas shortly after Boromir's death. Its a real tear jerker, Enjoy guys!
Another return visit to our sister-podcast the SpielbergPod with a discussion from 2015 on Steven Spielberg's epic film, 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind'. And if you wonder why we don't mention the film 'Arrival' (which would've made a dynamite Companion Piece) it wasn't out at the point of Kieran and I recording this episode. Bloody good film though.

This week we bring you episode 78--really! Pay no attention to Deb's introduction. Erika isn't the only one who makes mistakes! Join Deb, Erika, Liz, and Lynne as we talk about companion teams. First, we have to define that term and differentiate it from "TARDIS team". Then we can get into the meat of the discussion--which companions work really really well together? Who can't you think of without their counterpart? Let us know your favorite companion teams in the comments! ^E Also covered [links on our site]: Liz's inner-8-year-old melts at the Companion Piece review in Doctor Who Magazine! In this episode me and my friend Kieran discuss the Steven Spielberg film 'Duel' and, in our podcast extra, we talk about what Jurassic Park would be like directed by Tim Burton. Along the way we discuss Tom Cruise running (the first of many Mission Impossible 3 references), Stephen King's Christine, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Rock (the actor, not the film), film reboots, screen ratios and confuse the owner of a dinosaur theme park owner with a diminutive Top Gear presenter. Oh, and that podcast I gave a shoutout to was The Autuercast, presented by the fantastic West Anthony and Rudie Obias. Every day Peter Capaldi proves himself more and more of a Doctor Who fanboy, and his latest japes at the Doctor Who experience are but the first bit of good news this week, including free comic books, new Big Finish, Dominic Glynn remixes, and more! But the showcase of the episode is an interview with Verity! podcaster and author Liz Myles, who has co-edited a book of essays called “Companion Piece” all about the good Doctor’s friends and assistants. We also have a bonus interview from Warren at Vancouver Fan Expo with Jamie Gervais, digital artist and all around good egg. Enjoy! Check out the show notes at http://www.radiofreeskaro.com
This week we focus on one companion--the winner of our Verity! companions poll! Join Deb, Erika, Liz, and Lynne, as we talk about Ace! Our personal feelings about Ace as a companion are mixed, but we all agree (mostly) on her importance as a companion. It's pretty easy to draw a line between Ace and Rose, and we do just that! We also chat a lot about Ace: as compared to other women on screen at the time, as a character to identify with (or not), and as a tuxedo-wearer. What are your feelings about Ace? Do you love her attitude? Or does she put you off as a viewer? Or something in between? Ok, it's finally time to talk about "proper" companions (whatever that means). Join Deb, Erika, Katrina, and Liz as we talk about the companions that started (and re-started) it all. We're focusing on Susan, Grace, and Rose--the ladies who ushered in each "era" of Doctor Who. We find more parallels than you might expect (certainly more than some of us expected!). What do you think of these "first" companions? Let us know in the comments! ^E Also covered: Kat can't wait to see the Torchwood guests at Gallifrey One! loves this beautiful painting: Tardis in the Woods! And with that, it's over--for another six weeks, anyway. Series 8 has come to a close, and its final episode has rather a lot to chew over. Join Deb, Erika, and Katrina as we delve into some of those elements: Missy/The Master, Clara as the Doctor, the evolution of lying, the self-realization of the Doctor... There are so many elements, however, that some of them will be left for next week, when we have many Verities to talk about the whole shebang--it's our Series 8 wrap-up! What did you think of the series finale? Was it a perfect culmination of a fantastic series? A fitting culmination for a lousy series? Or something in between?
