The Media Roundtable is back! This week we're recapping a whirlwind of a time from the 3rd International Podcast Show in London. If you missed out, we're here to ease your FOMO (and hopefully inspire you to make the trip next year). Steven Abraham (President, Oxford Road) hosts fellow Oxford Road jetsetters Miranda Romano, (SVP of Media Services, Oxford Road) and Giles Martin (EVP of Strategy and Measurement, Oxford Road). Plus our old friends Amelia Coomber (Head of Marketing and Growth, Podscribe) and keynote speaker James Cridland (Editor of Podnews and Podcast Business Journal) are here to share their highlights. The team is talking: US & International markets, the future of international audio, lessons for stateside events, navigating nuances, and more. Let's dig in.
In 2022 Felix Coomber began a four year course studying international social science at the university of Tsukuba in Japan. Felix started gymnastics at the age of five and has won multiple individual medals nationally in recent years. He is the first British gymnast to train full time in Japan and now represents the university team. In 2002 at the Salt Lake City winter Olympic Games Felix's Mum won an Olympic bronze medal in the Skeleton bobsleigh for TeamGB. He recently competed at the English championships and plans to compete again at the British championships in a few weeks time. And this is his story.
Amelia talks about the Podscribe Performance Benchmarks for Q4 2023. They're here, free - https://podscribe.com/ppb-q4-2023

Dr Lisa Cameron was the SNP MP for East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow from 2015 until a week ago when she decided to join the Conservative Party. She has described the move as equivalent to leaving an abusive marriage. In her first radio interview since her defection, she joins Emma Barnett to discuss what led to her making this decision. Listeners who have been through IVF treatment will be familiar the extra – and often very expensive – add-on services that many clinics recommend. The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), the fertility regulator, has now launched a ratings system to let patients see which add-ons are backed-up by evidence. Strikingly, not one of them has been given the highest "green" rating. Professor Tim Child chairs the HFEA's Scientific and Clinical Advances Advisory Committee. Jessica Hepburn spent over £70,000 on unsuccessful fertility procedures and now campaigns about the fertility industry. They joined Emma to discuss. Three Little Birds is a new ITV series written by Lenny Henry which follows three women who emigrate from Jamaica to England in the 1950s - post-Windrush. The series is inspired by the stories of Lenny Henry's family who, although had positive experiences of being helped as new arrivals, also shared accounts of physical and racial abuse when they reached the UK. Saffron Coomber who plays ‘Chantrelle' and director Yero Timi Biu talk about the show. Julia Fox is an actor, artist and fashion icon, as famous for her breakout role in the film Uncut Gems as she is for her spectacular avant-garde fashion choices. She became tabloid fodder after a brief relationship with Kanye West. Her memoir Down the Drain describes a troubled childhood of sex, drugs and abusive relationships in Italy and New York. She tells Emma how her high-fashion image allows her to escape the male gaze. Presenter: Emma Barnett Producer: Lisa Jenkinson Studio Manager: Steve Greenwood.
Despite being known as a B2C telecom giant turned dying star, Nokia's focus has been on developing B2B network technology for the past decade. For Nokia's first major rebrand in 45 years, it was crucial to be seen as the digital innovator they are, not the mobile phone company they were. In this episode, we talk to Lee Coomber, Creative Director at Lippincott, to learn how his design team righted the misperceptions of an enterprise legacy brand. To see the change of brand for yourself, visit achangeofbrand.com or follow us on Instagram @changeofbrand.Produced by Matchstic (matchstic.com / @matchstichouse), hosted by Blake Howard, co-hosted by Tracy Clark, edited and scored by Landon Oseitutu, fact-checked by Jill Jeffries, written in part and produced by Brianna Belcher, and artwork by Rachel Jackson.
A sponsored podcast from Rivertrace Rivertrace, the UK-based water quality monitoring specialist, has evolved as the maritime industry developed away from analogue systems to digital technology. Digital monitoring has become not only an accepted but also an essential part of modern shipping. In this podcast, the company's owner and executive chairman Mike Coomber shares his thoughts on monitoring, fuels, new technologies, automation, and crewing. He concludes that the only way to achieve decarbonisation goals is to make better use of human resources and assets operated onboard. He agrees the future will see a range of fuels, with ship owners and operators choosing the best fuel for the trade their vessels are on. However, he cautions that initial decisions are likely to change as the industry moves closer to decarbonisation goals. Meanwhile seafarers trained in an analogue age must be trained for the digital ship, and for these new fuels. He advocates bringing back an apprenticeship scheme, so seafarers can earn as they learn. From the perspective of a developer of maritime technology, the world of fuels is not quite as clear as it might look through regulators' or charterers' eyes. Mr Coomber offers an alternative view that challenges as well as affirms.

In today's episode, our guest will talk about shifting the mindset to align it to purpose. She will also give tips and insights on how to be your best self by tapping into the physical. Listen in! Social Media Website: https://Jeaniecoomber.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/986666321719033/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jeanie_coomber/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/jeanie_coomber LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeanie-coomber-90973b4/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbMZ2HyNNyPoeCSqKClBC_w I think it's important to start with the word warrior, and as a coach for the last 16 years, I have worked with leaders literally around the world in various industries. [3:34] I have always done this one-to-one work listening to what's going on within this person that makes them unique and powerful in the world. [3:46] I gravitated to the word warrior when I was considering expanding my footprint. [3:39] When a warrior is a brave and experienced soldier, they demonstrate bravery and courage and optimism, and a willingness to step forward into things. [4:09] This embodied what I would see in the conversations that I was having with leaders around the world. [4:23] I took a big chance on myself, brought in some great experts, and decided to expand my footprint to provide a platform to get into dialogue with men and women in the workplace and to talk about things beyond professional attributes. [4:51] What makes us unique and brings us magic when we are at our best are the things outside of our professional attributes, such as our intuition, our soul, and our ability to assess situations and people. [5:20] I decided to create a platform that provides for us to talk about all things, and that was really the impetus behind expanding what I was doing in the world and providing a platform to do that. [5:34] I launched my brand last February, thinking I was going to have all the time in the world to make this shift from executive coaching. [6:14] March hit, and I lost about 40% of my business very quickly because no one was hiring an executive coach, and all my travel got canceled. [6:43] I felt this calling to get into service to the business community, so I grabbed my phone and started serving up as much as I could through Facebook Live, which was the quickest, most efficient way to get content and conversation out there. [6:51] What I got in return was tremendous community, and I learned so much about myself because I was going through it like everybody else. [7:12] Through the conversation, the brand took flight, and I was able to bring forward a lot of the concepts and the things that I had thought to bring forward in a practical and robust way. [7:24] Now it is more of a sophisticated platform, but the concept in the original intention is the same. [7:48] It's intended to be in service to the business community. We're talking about things that are more than our professional attributes and not being afraid of all of those things that make you unique and powerful in the world. [7:58] I still do executive coaching and what I have noticed is that we have expanded our capacity in the world, and we have a lot more to us than we realize. [9:51] What I think will happen is there's going to be really deliberate conscious shifts in how we show it in our lives. [11:02] All of the lessons, insights and wisdom that we've gained in the last year and half needs to be a part of the narrative. [14:54] In my opinion, there is a massive change happening, and organizations are looking at people and talent through a very different lens like never before. [15:41] I am also really excited about Gen Z coming into the workplace, what they're going to bring and how they will elevate. [16:06] Commercial Break. [17:08] The most common theme that I've seen that ignites the worrier within is when I asked the question, "when you are most effective, and you are at your best, what does it look and feel like?" [18:49] When you think about your most effective version of yourself, that is your steady and anchor. [19:32] There are a couple of ways that you can get there and some of my favorite techniques are tapping into your physical and not just relying upon your intellectual horsepower. [19:41] Your power center is right around your diaphragm which is right below your rib cage, and when you breathe, it triggers the parasympathetic system just by physically touching that part of your body. [20:15] Another one of my favorite things is putting your finger on the forehead right between the eyebrows, bringing your chin to your chest, uncrossing your legs, and making sure those feet are firmly on the ground and you sit and breathe. [21:39] Your forehead right between your eyebrows is where your prefrontal cortex is and is usually where your best self is. [22:05] Just by pointing to it also allows you to bring all of your energy back to your executive thinking mind, interrupt all of the noise, and bring forth a great version of yourself. [22:13] Another way to amplify If ever you get nervous or someone's coming at you, always uncross your feet and get your body in an expansive position. [24:25] If you want to ignite a warrior within, most of it comes from your mindset. [25:54] Being afraid, constricting, or having insecurities is all normal and all people go through it, and I learned that naming wherever you are normalizes it. [27:01] Take that question around your most effective self, put pen to paper when you're most effective, and put language behind it. It will help you to inform what your next move is. [28:46] If you have something that's always playing in the background, just by putting pen to paper, it will help bring some of that up. That is information that will help you step more and more into the best version of yourself. [29:21] ….……………… Thank you to our January sponsor! East Brother Beer in Richmond, California, makes its living by nailing classic styles, including an oatmeal stout in the core range. Naturally they also brew IPA—Gold or Red, take your pick—but their top two sellers are Bo Pils and Red Lager. Their seasonal lager series includes a maibock, Baltic porter, pre-Prohibition lager, and festbier—no wonder head brewer Paul Liszewski's customized California license plate says “LAGER.” While its sneakily hop-forward yet balanced Bo Pils is beloved by local drinkers, it also gets respect from peers—including a Great American Beer Festival silver medal in 2019. Chris Coomber and Rob Lightner founded East Brother in 2016; Liszewski joined up in 2017. He says that Bo Pils is still essentially the homebrew recipe that Coomber perfected in his own kitchen—any changes since then have mainly been process tweaks and fine-tuning. (For more about brewing that beer, see Liszewski's Brewer's Perspective (https://beerandbrewing.com/brewers-perspective-brewing-bo-pils-with-east-brother/).) In this episode, Liszewski digs further into the brewery's lager program and its approach to brewing consistent crowd-pleasers. Among other topics, he goes deep on Bo Pils—which accounts for about 40 percent of the brewery's production—as well as Pre-Prohibition Lager, whose classic recipe includes six-row craft malt from Admiral Maltings in Alameda, California, in conjunction with flaked maize. As with the Bo Pils, they didn't forget the hops—it gets a helthy portion of Cluster to the tune of 38 IBUs. Tune in for lager talk and much more. *This episode is brought to you by: * G&D Chillers (https://gdchillers.com): Born in the Pacific Northwest from a lot of hard work and singular goal, G&D has become the best damn chiller company in the world. In this episode of the Balance Boldly Podcast seating with Naketa Ren Thigpen let's welcome Jeanie & Ross Coomber, they are amazing human beings, the absolute definition of a power couple as I have defined it. Power couples, although they can be celebrities and high profile, that is not the core characteristic that I define them by. I describe a power couple as two people with strong what I call IPA that's being influential in their chosen industry or expertise, their philanthropic, not just financially but energetically, they're not afraid to roll up their sleeves and dive in. And let's put this in the parentheses. The final part of that IPA is they have to be strong advocates for causes that impact disproportionately affected groups of people. That's super important because power couples give back. And they're not just giving from little extras, they're giving from a space of sacrifice and time, energy, and resources, which is super important. They also love each other. They are in it to win with their forever love. They believe not only in the potential of themselves, but the potential that they have together when they unite as a power couple. What you will learnThat working as a team not only in business but also in your relationship matters.Communication and being honest with each other take your relationship to the next level.Finance is one of the number one reasons marriage never makes it through.Making time for intimacy and being aware of each other needs.Intimacy is also those little moments of taking care of each other not only physically but emotionally.Recreational intimacy is another huge part of intimacy.Going to a therapist if needed can save your marriage. This and more on this amazing power couple conversation. If you are willing and ready, let's shake the shame and spread healing & hope to women ready to get more of what they want. It's a sprawling subject charged with emotion and sometimes agenda, it's also very confusing & often hard to get a point of view or opinion you trust. This is by no means a subject that i'm decided on or finished with, i'm still exploring & now I need to encompass what is the right choice for my family both ethically and nutritionally. I hope you find this episode helpful and can take away some points for yourself.

Stress is a pervasive element in all of our lives. This month we discussed the book “Less Stress Life-How I went from Crazed to Calm and You Can Too” by Jamie Sussel Turner. This book offers some great tips for managing stress and offers a point of view on places where stress is present in less obvious ways like “circumstantial friendships”. Lynn and I discuss some of the key concepts we enjoyed in the book, how to be a “stress detective”, or a “good enoughist” and asking yourself the question “what would it take to feel less stress today” when you feel stress coming over you. This is a resource you can keep by the bed or the desk and can be a resource whenever you need perspective!

But in the dark, private theatre of her mind are memories - of love motels lit by neon red hearts, discos in abandoned hospitals and a boy called Angelo. And inside her, a baby is growing.
