Additionally, she has spent half of her career working at the Walt Disney Company in various sales and marketing roles.Philosophically, Lisa approaches sales as a discipline and believes that good salespeople don't just sell - they add value. She is passionate about working with teams that are open to new ways of addressing growth challenges and are committed to driving results through collaborative, forward-thinking approaches.Check out the latest episode of our Conversational Selling podcast to learn more about Lisa.In this episode, Nancy and Lisa discuss the following:The importance of focusing on the big picture in sales strategiesSales as a discipline: consistency and adding valueResearch-driven approach to identifying prospect pain pointsSales preparation as a key to success in salesLisa's journey from selling popcorn at Disney to consultingTransitioning from corporate roles to entrepreneurship during the pandemicSales as relationship-building through meaningful conversationsIntentionality in prospecting calls: planning and adaptabilityLifelong learning and ongoing training in sales effectivenessCrafting high-power questions to make sales calls more engagingKey Takeaways: I think in most organizations people do their day-to-day tasks and they're not thinking about how this connects to the larger picture.I rely on extensive research, and this is not just a quick Google search five minutes before the meeting. My strengths naturally align with sales.Whoever's asking the questions is in control. "I do believe sales is a discipline in the sense that to have results, you need to show up consistently. And I like to use a gym as a reference, right? You don't roll up to the gym one day and decide to lift 250 pounds. You must sort of show up every day or every four days a week, right, over a consistent amount of time for you to build that strength and to build that muscle, right? So that requires discipline. Just like sales, you can't roll up to a client meeting without having done your research, without understanding what the client's problem is. How can my specific service or product help with that problem? And I believe to be good at sales, you need to develop that as a discipline, right? You have to do that hard work, week in and week out to see the results because you never know which call or which prospect or which meeting is going to be fruitful, right? You must plant all the seeds, but you don't know which ones will be fruitful in the end." – LISA"I like to really try to leave no stone unturned and uncover where there might be opportunities. So, I'll give you an example. Let's say I'm pitching a Fortune 100 company, and they just had their annual meeting. I might take the time to review the video of the annual meeting and really understand what is the CEO talking about, right? What is the senior-most leadership team talking about and does that relate to my product or service, right? […] And then try to relate that to my product or service. Another tip that I've done that actually scored me a fantastic meeting with a large organization was I looked at various job openings at a company and mapped based on the roles that they were hiring that they could use my product at the time, right, and scored a meeting with the senior level leadership team. So, it's almost, again, with the lens of adding value, I think your research must go deeper than just rudimentary. It does really need to dig deeper so that you can best understand the client, where they're coming from, what's the conversation going on in their organizations." – LISA"There's this sort of idea that in the past, we went to school and then our school chapter was completed, then we went to work, right? And that was sort of the progression of adult life. You went to school, then you went to work, and then that was sort of where your learning started and ended. Nowadays, there's so much opportunity for people to learn, and not just about a function or, you know, a specific industry. There is an opportunity to learn across different industries and across functions. And I think that ultimately makes you a better salesperson, right? Like if again, if you could connect dots that other people aren't connecting for clients, that's the gold right there." – LISAConnect with Lisa Scotto:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lspommerening/LMS Growth Consulting: https://lmsgrowthconsulting.com/Sales Glow Up: YouTube LinkTry Our Proven, 3-Step System, Guaranteeing Accountability and Transparency that Drives RESULTS by clicking on this link: https://oneofakindsales.com/call-center-in-a-box/ Connect with Nancy Calabrese: Twitter:https://twitter.com/oneofakindsalesFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/One-Of-A-Kind-Sales-304978633264832/Website:https://oneofakindsales.comPhone: 908-879-2911 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ncalabrese/Email: leads@oneofakindsales.com

Denise talks to KC Crain, President of the privately held media giant, Crain Communications. Navigating the global transformation of the media industry and building a technology company around media is something he's proud of, with good reason. The family business produces news across publications, lead generation, research and data products, digital platforms, custom publishing, and events, reaching 78 million readers globally; the company's portfolio consists of 24 brands. Crain sites two tough situations he's faced that have helped him to grow. The first was an absolute failure to launch a new business. The second was starting over. He's learned the art of communication, in an environment that provides opportunities to hone his skills, exercising the courage to be honest. “Confidence,” he says, “is learned.” Crain has a passion for learning, investing his time and effort into diving deeply into his subject matter. It makes sense. With increasing knowledge and expertise comes increasing confidence. His advice to those who are thinking of joining a family business is as wise and humorous as it gets, “Go work somewhere else for a while.” He credits his ability to follow in his father and grandfather's footsteps to understanding that no one person has all the answers. You can learn from anyone on the team, older or younger, at any time. Be open-minded and open to change. As a husband and father of five children, he's taken his mom's words to heart—I don't care what happens with the family company, I care what happens at Thanksgiving. Like many Detroiters, Crain has fond memories of the city's sports wins, and the energy its teams bring to the city. But having been in Detroit for over 50 years, Crain has enjoyed seeing the Riverfront and Central Business District come to life. Denise enthusiastically agrees with her guest, “I think we've got one of THE most generous cities in America.” *** KC Crain is President and CEO for Crain Communications, Inc. His previous roles include COO, EVP and Director of Corporate Operations, VP and Group Publisher. He started as a reporter for Automotive News. Crain is board chair for the Detroit Children's Fund and sits on the boards of the Young Presidents Organization, and the College for Creative Studies. He is dedicated to Detroit's economic development with investments and partnerships in real estate and restaurant ventures. Crain earned a BA in Communications from Denison University. He and his wife, Ashley, live in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, with their five children. Denise Ilitch, an owner of Ilitch Family Companies and President of Ilitch Enterprises, has been a part of Detroit's business and philanthropic community for over 40 years. As a mother, lawyer, entrepreneur, devoted community servant and tireless advocate for women and children, she learned early, from her father, that everyone is worthy of contributing to the world. Her passion for affordable, accessible, quality education stems from her own experience as a first-generation student, earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, where she currently serves on the Board of Regents. Born out of a college class project in 2017, Front Office Sports is entering its fifth year with an eye on growth. Earlier this year in February, FOS got a round of funding from Crain Communications, which bought a 20% stake in the company on a $25 million valuation. Founder and CEO Adam White said that the company is on a path to profitability this year between the investment and the success it's seen in revenue streams like its year-old learning business. In total, FOS is projected to earn eight-figures of revenue this year. On the latest episode of the Digiday Podcast, White talked about using the influx of revenue and investment to grow the FOS team, which is now at 40 full-time employees, including the recent hire of Lisa Granatstein as its chief content officer from Adweek where she served in the same role. Earning 99% of its revenue from advertising still, Granatstein will be responsible for finding more sponsorship opportunities on editorial projects, as well as growing the Pro subscription product that's still in its beta phase.

Social media isn’t going anywhere. It is part of our society and while the platforms may change, evolve, and expand, online sharing has become part of the culture. In our business and in our personal lives we need to think about what and who we want to represent on our own social platforms from Facebook to LinkedIn, Instagram to TikTok. There’s so much to think about for our own personal branding. There’s also the other side of social. The darker side, where comparison can make us feel inferior, trolls can threaten our well-being and one wrong turn can stay with you...for a very long time. What happens when social media threatens your mental health and yet, it’s your business? In this week’s episode, we’re talking with Tracy Goodheart. Tracy shares her personal story and detrimental relationship with social media, her shift in the way she showed up on social to enhance her mental health instead of destroying it, and best practices for YOU as you build your personal brand online.Subscribe: Apple Podcasts I Spotify I Google Podcast I SticherEPISODE RESOURCESTracy Samantha Goodheart is the founder of Socially Authentic, a personal marketing company that helps entrepreneurs, executives, and creatives market themselves with ease. Dana has always left a legacy behind. She believes strongly in leaving things better than she found them, and her record shows it. While working at SIA as Senior VP of Strategy and Solutions, Dana co-launched the industry’s first-ever buyside conference, research council, advisory practice, and speaker bureau. This resulted in a complete organizational structure change to scale and ultimately sell the founder's company, along with the CEO and Chief Analyst, to Crain Communications. During her time as Global Vice President at TAPFIN, Dana designed, collaborated, and led the Global Managed Services (BPO) Center of Excellence for TAPFIN. By working with 66 country experts across sales, finance, legal, tax, operations, back office, and implementations, her team delivered standardized methods across Fortune Company clients while honoring nuances within each region, country, and province. Dana also directed a team of market intel and thought leader experts, mining proprietary data and correlating it with externally available market and economic data, to create and launch the first-ever company Contingent Workforce Index. Today, this is not only a Global Index but the basis for a new revenue model. Dana left TAPFIN to join ICon Professional Services (now TalentWave), where she served as COO and President of Alliances and Advisory Services. As COO, she led growth initiatives that resulted in the final transaction to a substantial private equity exit for the owner/founder of ICon within 18 months, doubling the company’s revenues by developing and executing against a three-horizon plan ahead of timeline by ten months. As President, she was an architect of change and led the industry’s first alliance and advisory practice. She was responsible for the team of experts who jumpstarted TalentWave’s growth engine with the vision of revolutionizing the way companies and freelancers take the first step to becoming compliant. The aforementioned successes and her 20+ years of experience led her to be recognized as a Silicon Valley Business Journal’s 2015 Woman of Influence, a judge for the 2016 and 2017 Stevie Awards in the Individual/Female Executive Award categories, and a member of SIA’s Global Power 150 for the Women in Staffing category in 2018. She has also spoken at a variety of international keynotes and expert panels within the talent ecosystem for such notable companies as Fieldglass, PeopleFluent, Allegis, and TAPFIN. She has also presented at industry events such as SIA’s CW Solution, SIA’s Executive Forum, and the TechServe Alliance Annual Conference. Not satisfied to only talk about her opinions and thoughts, she has published pieces in SI Review, CW 3.0, HRO, Compliance Week, The Fordyce Letter, and Institute Supply Management Magazine, among many others. Helping companies anticipate “what’s next” is a specialty of hers.Today, Dana has started her own consulting and advisory firm, Phoenix5, embarking on the next phase of her career as an advisor, coach, speaker, and mentor, evangelizing a new mindset: Stop Settling®. Phoenix5 transforms individuals and organizations holistically in an accelerated way with maximum return. Stop Settling builds on that vision by offering a sustainable alternative to the work-life balance myth through a simple composite StrataGEM® charting that frees companies and professionals from giving in and giving up on sustainable success. With that in mind, Dana has begun coaching and advising an elite and like-minded team of Fortune, Staffing, and Digital Platform leaders, while collaborating with thought leaders and innovators of all kinds, to revolutionize the way we work and lead the voice of the new talent movement. She is a Founder and Global Staffing Evangelist for SOAR and also serves as a member of the advisory boards for Opolis, Reboot Accel, VNDLY, Shiftgig, and LNQ Systems.https://phoenix5th.com/
