Over a 20 year period (2005-2025), the number of 18 to 29 year old's in America who identify as "Christian" has declined from 68% to 44%. We are losing our children to the culture.2 Timothy 3 defines a culture by what it loves, and those loves lead to an abandonment of God. But the Apostle Paul also offers a strategy for spiritually training our children so that they are protected from being swept into the culture and away from God.

Greetings friends~As we be together in this political moment, I wanted to offer some of the dharma teachings and practices that I have been leaning into. One of which is sharing poetry, so first a poem. For When People Ask by Rosemerry Wahtola TrommerI want a word that meansokay and not okay, more than that: a word that meansdevastated and stunned with joy.I want the word that saysI feel it all all at once. The heart is not like a songbirdsinging only one note at a time, more like a Tuvan throat singerable to sing both a droneand simultaneouslytwo or three harmonics high above it—a sound, the Tuvans say, that gives the impressionof wind swirling among rocks. The heart understands swirl, how the churning of opposite feelingsweaves through us like an insistent breezeleads us wordlessly deeper into ourselves, blesses us with paradoxso we might walk more openlyinto this world so rife with devastation, this world so ripe with joy.Honor the wisdom of your body. Our bodies are wise, they feel and respond to the information coming in through our environment. In the single unified field of embodied awareness, all response is welcome. All response is more information. To honor the body's wisdom is to make space to feel what you are feeling, to drop into the body and allow the sensations, feelings and emotions that are present to be experienced and processed through the body's awareness.I want to name that we are experiencing abuse of power on a national level and attempts to undo basic practices of equity and care for folks with already marginalized identities and our earth. This may activate trauma responses or nervous system alerts in our bodies, responses of fear, freeze, rage, fight, anger, grief and overwhelm or feelings and sensations that are hard to feel/name. What practices help you tend to your body and nervous system, to feel and listen to your emotions?Bayo Akomalfe quoting a Yoruba saying says: The times are urgent, slow downMeditation and mindfulness help us presence what we are actually feeling and transmute emotional reactions into wisdom, compassion and right action. This is a process of recognizing what we are telling ourselves, what thoughts, memories and worries are being triggered—and coming back to our direct experience—here— in this living present. The four foundations of mindfulness is one way of touching into the different realms of our experience, they are:Feel your bodyFeel you feelingsBecome aware of mental activity (remember we don't have to believe our thoughts)Rest in Awareness itselfArt, exercise, body movement practices, eating good food, taking in beauty, breathing deeply, being around others with regulated nervous systems like (meditation, yoga, art spaces, therapy, natural world) are other important ways to care for, nourish our bodies.Insight Practice—The dharma teachings remind us that right here, in our present experience, in the imminence of this—there is a refuge that can't be taken away. All the koans point us back here.We ask—who is it that is aware? What is this? Not merely as an existential inquiry, but as a way to remember ourselves back to the truth of who we are.In times of crisis, angst, hopelessness and fear our true nature is right here. Aware, open, deeply grounded, whole.Zen awakening reminds us that we can know this freedom in any situation.Sometimes when things are stripped away, when we are truly facing uncertainty or crisis, we are more available to this level of the teachings—what remains when even your sense of security is called into question?what remains when everything is taken away?Reflection on Impermanence—Hakuin Zenji likened impermanence to a black fire. We don't see it coming, so we are surprised when conditioned things change. Before the Buddha died he reminded his disciples that all compounded things are subject to vanish. Our bodies, our relationships, our work, our societies—are subject to change. Whatever is happening now, will change. In Buddhism we are invited to contemplate impermanence as a regular part of our practice life. When we do this, we see or remember that everything we love or depend on is of the nature to change. All beings are a life-cycle, they were born, they will die. It can be powerful to view each being like this, to see their birth and death within whatever their present expression is. Civilizations, societies also have a birth and a death. There is this teaching from Ajahn Cha, who apparently had this favorite cup that he always insisted on using when he gave formal talks. He would admire the beauty of the cup publicly. Once a student asked him about the teaching of non-attachment and impermanence in relationship to his cup. Ajahn Cha said, it is because I know that this cup will break someday that I love it so much.Impermanence can help us connect to what truly matters, to our love for this dynamic and wild life, and all the elements it contains.Four Divine Abodes—Loving kindness, compassion, joy, equanimity—these are qualities we can cultivate and dwell in—a clear and stable mind, a heart grounded in love, compassion and joy. Its actually quite subversive to practice the four boundless qualities of the heart-mind. To remember that we are interconnected, and that it is not our responsibility alone to save the world. When you don't know what to do, practice Loving kindness for yourself, for others, for the planet, for our world. For all beings who are experiencing fear. For all beings who are caught in greed, hatred and delusionHatreds never cease through hatred in this world; through love alone they cease. This is an eternal law.—the BuddhaDharma Protectors—Ask for help from the Bodhisattvas, Jizo Bodhisattva has this vow to enter any hell realm and guide beings to liberation. Ask Jizo to protect those who are most vulnerable, including parts of yourself!Vows—Stay connected to your vows. I find in times of stress, uncertainty, fear or confusion if I turn towards the bodhisattva vows, my personal vows clarify and deepen. Many of us may not have vows that we have articulated for this life, but may have a felt sense of calling, direction or orientation. Leaning into what matters, and drawing strength from this kind of north star orientation is essential for our hearts.Sangha—Thich Nhat Hanh said that the next Buddha is the Sangha. It has long been known that awakening and spiritual maturation happen in community, side by side with each other. We are stronger together. We just are.The more that we can rest into spiritual practice not being about achieving some kind of personal fulfillment, the more rich and meaningful spiritual practice becomes. I would say the same thing about living, if we are living for ourselves as a community of beings—life has a richness to it. Let's let our sense of community extend to include the entire world—the entire cosmos.Take refuge in community, and let yourself stay open to discovering more community in your life!Creativity—Make Art, Share Poetry, Sing, Dance, Illustrate, tell stories, make food for those you love, make time for creative expressionArt-making is an embodied practice.Art is healing, it opens us up to the different parts of ourselves and connects us to the collective.Art is a way to process and practice being imperfect. When we create, we are in touch with creation on an embodied level, love is being expressed through our being in all its various shades and colors.Art allows breakthroughs, something that has never been is given life.As systems crumble before our eyes, something new will be born, will rise from the ashes. Our creativity is part of that process. Trust that.In a Dangerous Time by Rosemerry Wahtola TrommerI think of the bonesof the unsung rib cage, the way they protectthe heart. How bone, too, is living, how it constantlyrenews and remakes itself.I think of how ribs engagewith other ribsto expand, to contract, and because they dotheir solid work, they allow the heart to float. This is what I want to do:to be a rib in this bodyof our country,to make a safe space for love. There is so much nowthat needs protection.I want to be that flexible, that committed to what's vital, that unwilling to yield.I'm Amy Kisei. Cold Open (into silence)You love Dune? Like me?Frank Herbert is dead... wrong.Fear is NOT the mind-killer. Denial is.[Music ]IntroYou're listening to AutisticAF Out Loud. One voice. Raw. Real. Fiercely Neurodivergent. Since 1953.Season 5, Episode 5. Attacks on neurodivergence, facing our fears, finding our strength. Today we're talking threats, resistance, and the power of a hundred million voices. Just one autistic elder's truth. I'm Johnny Profane.Content Note: political violence, eugenics, genocide, institutionalized discrimination, systemic oppression + experiences & opinions of one autistic voice... in my 70s.[Music]You love Dune? Like me?Frank Herbert is dead... wrong.Fear is NOT the mind-killer. Denial is.I must honor my fear.Fear is my guardian. My junkyard dog. My screaming siren.Fear is the warning of annihilation. It must be heeded.I will embrace my fear. Then share its wisdom.I will let it flow through me. Become purpose & strength. And when we have acted? I will remember… its lessons.Where the Beast of Fear once stood, we will now stand. We will abide. Stronger for having feared… then acted… Together.Trust me. I know a lot about fear. I'm autistic. ADHD, too. In my 70s.Living in dangerous times in America. And we got a lot more to fear… than fear itself.[Music]Hey... you know how this works. If this resonates, now might be a good time to like, share… maybe text a link to a friend. Really helps get the word out.Trump administration identifies Autism & ADHD as "dire threats to the American people."Some folks called this headline hyperbole. Click-bait exaggeration. To my face. With hostility. Calling out what they see as “fear-mongering.”One fellow autist on LinkedIn really tore me a new one along those lines. Tried to anyways. I got a bit strong on her ass… So she blocked me. Exercising her denial. But this is how it starts. The White House labeled us a "dire threat." Not as evil actors, but based on our condition… our existence itself. Autism as a "dire threat." Not a difference. Then throwing out a gratuitous observation... “77% of young adults do not qualify for the military based in larger part on their health scores.” (Full Whitehouse.gov post.)As if that is how America now measures the value of our lives. As cannon fodder. As if there aren't now… and haven't been throughout history… Neurodivergent warriors.Demonizing all the disabled. All the Different. As if we are the ones destroying America.I'm struggling. I'm terrified...Even knowing that cruel terror is their purpose. Didn't help watching Man in the High Castle lately. The scene where ashes are falling because they're cremating the old and defective...I'm toast.About 1:43 in the YouTube linked in text.{video clip in text}This terror? Not just my personal problem. We neurodivergents ain't a small marginalized group. The numbers tell a bigger story:* About 30 million Americans have direct family ties to an autistic person* Roughly another 30 million have cousins or close relatives who are autistic* 60 million. That's 1 in 6 Americans with close autistic connectionsBut we're just getting started. Add in ADHD, even accounting for overlap between conditions, the numbers become staggering:* 69 million Americans have immediate family members affected* 75 million have extended family affected* Nearly 1 in 4 American families impactedWithout considering the millions of families affected by other disabilities. All these figures are back of the envelope. Conservative estimates from current prevalence rates. No formal research exists yet on these numbers. But the truth is clear…We're talking 1 in 4 American families?Let that sink in.When do we stop seeing these numbers as statistics? And start seeing the faces of neighbors. Your friends. Your loved ones? When are we ready to stand together?Even if they don't round us all up right away…They're already killing education programs. For Autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, speech, hearing, vision, physical disabilities…Personally I'm secretly pleased to see torturous ABA-based programs unfunded. Applied Behavioral Analysis forces change on helpless autistic children. Screw that noise. But caring parents across the nation? They want support for their kids. They're showing up at Town Halls. Getting loud about these recent cuts. Expressing fear and anger. Hurting kids cuts deep. And wide.Worse yet? Over 80% of us autistics are unemployed or underemployed. Think about it. That means killing our Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, Food Stamps, Housing, etc. That's institutionalized Economic violence. A soft means of killing us off. And Soft Genocide is the deadliest kind. It goes unnoticed. Unmourned. But, hey, it's not only lost benefits I'm worried about.Underlying many of Trump's policies?Turn over a rock on most? You'll find the sinister grin of “Eugenics” staring up at you. That debunked, unscientific program to improve human “breeding stock.” By terminating the reproduction of “Undesirables.”By any means necessary. Isolation, deportation, starvation, illness, violence, death. Just like Nazi Germany, against all disabilities. Libertarian Survival of the Fittest. At its finest.Ayn Rand would be so proud. “Meritocracy” my ass…Denial begins with dismissal. Violence begins with hate speech.Notice the subtle, insidious damage done here. Labeling neurodivergence and other differences as "dire threats." That may be the most dangerous aspect of this White House publication.Like they weaponized Disability, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) through propaganda. It's how it starts. The slow slide to genocide. We've seen this before. The marginalization of minorities."Do you want a BLIND person at the FAA?“Would you trust a PARALYZED person holding your life in their hands?""Do you see a WOMAN on the front lines… defending you? A transgender?”"How about an IMMIGRANT raping your daughter?”Mockery becomes hate speech.Becomes mass hatred.Becomes normalized violence. It's right there in the authoritarian… even Fascist… playbook. Now? It's The American Way.First, we're other. Then, we're less than human.A burden.A danger. Finally…A targetFor violence. And hate crimes against Americans with disabilities have risen 29.5% over the last five years. As American political discourse has darkened.See what I mean? Can we turn our horror into action? The very point of these propaganda tactics is terror.Threatening humans' income, medical care, housing… lives? That's terrorism. How can we possibly fight our fear becoming terror? This may encourage you. The sheer number of American families. Who are seeing their loved ones threatened.A 100 million... or more... affected American disabled families? I believe we can raise a decent reaction. If we act together.I've proven over and over again in my life I'm no leader. Executive functioning? Hell, I struggle to find topic sentences. Decisions over local action, political organization, resistance demonstrations? Beyond me.So I'm not about to create some Neurodivergent Justice League or anything. But one thing that someone like me can do? That is positive? Put a human face on suffering. Without spinning toxic positivity. You may disagree. I understand. Nevertheless?I have value. And this warning has merit. It can gather a crowd. Maybe more capable folks who can run with it.YET… There are 4 things we can do right now to effect change:* Share this warning. With friends. With government representatives. Make it visible. Make it heard.* Join the conversation below in comments. Your story matters. Your voice counts.* Connect with organizations already fighting this fight. They need our numbers. And maybe most important…* Create a mutual support network. Might be neighbors who check in with each other. Or more… shared travel, shopping together, mutual defense. A small community of choice.Fear is not the enemy…Fear is the Dance of Shiva, baby. When that Hindu god becomes the “Destroyer of Worlds" in the famous Oppenheimer quote. His flashing feet destroying the illusion of denial.Invoking a new creation.Feel your fear.Ride it.DO somethingWith its strength.Together, maybe… just may be...We can destroy ignorance. Make something… new.We must honor our fear. Then act. Together.OutroIn coming weeks, we'll challenge the medical model of autism, with an episode called, "CBT...? Never Worked for Autistic Me." Why? Part of a series on how neurodivergent individuals can build sustainable, authentic lives - with or without professional intervention.AutisticAF Out Loud podcast is supported solely by listeners like you. NRE, New Relationship Energy, or what most people call the "Honeymoon Period" is one of the most happy times in a relationship. It is also the single most dangerous time in a relationship because that's when people usually make all the wrong decisions. I'll discuss how NRE works and how to keep a cool head when it hits you, which it will.

Chances are you either have first hand experience of the 1970s and 1980s, or you have a perception of those decades fuelled by media portrayal. What made the 70s and 80s so unique? A Note from James:You know, it's election season, and guess what? Everybody is annoyed right now. Do you know why? It's not that their opinions are annoying, I could care less, but everybody wants to know your opinions on everything. And you know what? It's a dangerous time right now. You could have opinions about who should be president, you could have opinions about Israel, you could have opinions about Ukraine, and you see people had opinions and like, okay, my friend has this opinion, I have a different opinion. That's not true anymore. Now people hate you for your opinions, whether you're on the left or the right or whatever. And even worse, nobody ever believes that you're just not interested, that you're neutral. Like I've written for the past 15 years what I think of the presidency. Heck, I've written, I'm even running for president and People say you can't be neutral or not have an opinion on Joe Biden and Donald Trump. If you go to FEC.gov, I decided I could completely not have an opinion if I ran for president myself, so I filled out all the paperwork and I'm running for president. Officially, not seriously, really, but still to the point where if anyone asked my opinion, I could just say, I don't like either of them because I'm running against them.So anyway, it's very hard to have difficult conversations, which is why I'm so glad my friend Peter Boghossian wrote a book, How to Have Impossible Conversations. And this is valuable stuff to listen to during election time. Here he is.Episode Description:Facts Don't Matter! Over the past year, people are either on one side or another, and they're so into their own beliefs, it's almost impossible to have a reasonable and proper conversation with either side! Do you remember all the impossible conversations that you had with your family or friends? It's always unproductive and doesn't lead anywhere! In this episode, I have Peter Boghossian - an American philosopher, pedagogist, and author - on the podcast to talk about the techniques of talking to people that he described in his book, How to Have Impossible Conversations: A Very Practical Guide. ------------What do YOU think of the show? Drake Jensen is a different kind of country. An early pioneer and a man whose music helped me at a pivotal time in my life. Drake sings with an open heart and that still gives some in this world some heartburn. And that suits him just fine. Drake and I first met back in 2011 when I reached out to him to thank him for his music and for being the courageous pioneer and trailblazer who was the first out, gay country artist with a Top 40 hit. That was on terrestrial radio, so that was an even bigger deal back then. In a campaign of gratitude after the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell I made sure to thank Drake for the soundtrack he was creating for many servicemembers who could relate to his songs. Drake has never been one to conform, to any style, trend, box, or label. And in the arch of his career so far, he's proven himself to be a unique voice, an admirable activist and wise elder. From his rural upbringing in Nova Scotia to the sometime unwelcoming and celebrated stages of Nashville, his story is one that inspires countless unsung heroes, writers, producers, artists and performers to keep going. This producer and creative included. I really enjoyed this conversation and reunion with Drake and cannot wait to hear his newest material due out soon. Keep an eye and ear out for his latest single, "Lovers in a Dangerous Time."

Steered Straight's program reaches out to children, teens and young adults with a message of reality about life-choices and the importance of consequential thinking so that they understand that there are consequences to their actions. The reality of the message comes from Michael himself, who was entwined in the life of drugs and traveled a troubling road to get to his future. Throughout the country, Michael now leads a team of talented speakers who present a realistic and powerful prevention message. His “no holds back” message resonates well with student assemblies, faculty and parents. Stay In Your Lane Media, the media arm of Steered Straight, was founded by Michael in 2012, and has produced four award winning documentaries, Kids Are Dying, An American Epidemic, Marijuana X and Road to Recovery. His fifth documentary, “Higher Power is currently in post-production. He captures stories of Hope and Recovery and has produced over one hundred video stories on the Recovery Army Website. Every state in America has experienced Michael DeLeon – one of the most passionate prevention speakers you will ever encounter. He is a member of many associations, committees and boards, but more importantly, he will take the time to answer questions from any youth and talk with anyone in his audience. Why? As Michael says, “I don't want to just affect one kid; I want to affect them all.” HELP SUPPORT OUR FIGHT AGAINST ADDICTION. Congressman Bob Good repudiates treatment of the IRS Whistleblowers that blew the whistle on Joe and Hunter Biden tax case. Good comments that “we're living in very dangerous, concerning times on many levels, but one of which is this kind of goes back to NPR. It used to be that the media took very seriously their responsibility to hold government power accountable, even Democrat power, and to try to get to the truth, the old Woodward and Bernstein days, if you will, to try to get to the truth and expose corruption in government. They, the media, used to also take its' responsibility to protect free speech and defend and fight for free speech. The left used to stand for that, no longer. Now we live in the age of censorship of information like we've never seen before, this administration belatedly explicitly colluding with, pressuring Big Tech to censure viewpoints, whether its political viewpoints, whether it's health information, whether it's election information, or campaign information, and this suppression of information, this collusion to rig elections by controlling the truth, or they can't control the truth, but controlling access to the truth, parroting what they know to be false information and elevating that and yet suppressing the truth. Very dangerous times. And it's it's amazing that Republicans and conservatives are even competitive in this environment politically, when all the levers of power are being worked against us in a way like we've never seen before. Particularly in violation of track, frankly, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and those sorts of things that are so fundamental.” Additional interviews with Alan Dershowitz on why New York's criminal conviction of former President Donald Trump will be overturned and former DEI Derek Maltz, Sr on China's latest efforts to exploit the open Southern Border.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Several years ago, I was driving through an area the weekend after a tragic mass shooting had occurred there. I listened on the radio to the people who lived nearby as they responded to being put in a goldfish bowl for the whole country to watch. I couldn’t help but reflect along with them about how unfair the whole thing was.Every special interest group had their spokesman on television telling us all why this tragedy had taken place. It was guns, of course. Someone noted that crime in the cities was going down while crime in rural areas was going up. He blamed the availability of guns for the problem. The poor fellow obviously has never lived in the rural south. I grew up in northern Arkansas, and I can tell you that guns are not a new arrival there. As a boy, I don’t think I knew a family—especially a rural family—that didn’t have guns and that didn’t teach their kids to hunt. We grew up playing war around the barns, pretending to shoot one another, and faking a fall out of the loft into a stack of hay below. None of us ever killed anyone. As far as I can tell, none of us even thought about it. Some other TV talking head blamed drugs. Another blamed the schools, another blamed the movies, and yet another blamed television violence. It’s true enough that everything that happens is the world is caused by something. But the causes are often so complex that specific prediction is impossible. However, general prediction is not at all impossible. There was no way to predict that those two boys would do what they did. But you can be certain that some boys (or girls) will kill again. It may be Elmira, New York. It may be Fairfax, Virginia. It may be your hometown. I can’t predict where it will happen, but I can predict that it will happen. And so can you. What we can’t be quite so sure is why it will happen. That’s what I want to talk about.
In this episode of 'The Book of Joe Podcast', Joe Maddon and Tom Verducci explain why this is the most dangerous time of the year. After seeing the Yankees dealing with elbow issues with Gerrit Cole, Tom thinks we're due for a yearly discussion on pitching health. Teams need to be concerned how much wear is on an arm when they reach the Major Leagues. Joe reveals the pitching regimen he'd like to see followed by young players. We explore why innings pitched are down but injuries are up. Plus, Joe recalls his first car and why it cost only $25.
