The Cognitive Crucible is a forum that presents different perspectives and emerging thought leadership related to the information environment. The opinions expressed by guests are their own, and do not necessarily reflect the views of or endorsement by the Information Professionals Association. During this episode, US Army MAJ Steve Schiovani discusses his Master's thesis from the US Army Command and General Staff College entitled: Lying, in Wait: Competitive Deception in the Indo-Pacific. The United States faces its stated pacing adversary, China, in competition in the Indo-Pacific region. As the Joint Force reorients, deception has re-emerged in updated doctrine as a competitive tool. The updated doctrine encourages the use of deception but provides little unclassified guidance on training or implementation of deception outside of tactical engagements. This thesis analyzes the foundations of strategic deception applied to the context of current US and Chinese competition in the Indo-Pacific region. Deception is modeled as a competitive wargame focused on the Indo-Pacific theater. Fundamental aspects of deception tied to US and Chinese strategic cultural lenses and objectives form the basis for the game's model. Analysis of the wider concept of deception reveals challenges and opportunities for the US in employing strategic deception below the level of armed conflict. This thesis offers an avenue for training deception planning using an experiential learning method. Tired of all the “woo-woo” floating around in the self-help and personal development space? Have you ever listened to these podcasters and rolled your eyes are the grand sweeping statements they make that have very little actionable steps? This podcast is about the nitty gritty journey of becoming a better business person, improving your station in life and generally succeeding in whatever endeavor you are attempting. We speak about the steps it takes, in detail, to achieve the results you want. We will talk about everything from growing up in a rough childhood to building your own business. But be warned this podcast isn’t for the fainthearted. We will dispel many of the self-help tropes and will speak from experience. None of those mindless tropes and broad-sweeping generalities here. This is for people who need to get things done. Facts over feelings and experience over theory is our mantra. Life is not a motivational poster.

Dave Acosta is back! In Episode 8 I interviewed him about his extensive tactical experience. He goes into depth on how to unleash the excellence in your DNA! This episode focuses on his skillset as an Authority on Active shooters and Personal Protection. In this capacity Dave has been recognized nationally and has been featured on various media outlets. Dave and his team also created a program and trained over 6000 teachers to date in effective “Fight Back” techniques, arming teachers with the skillset to respond if an active shooter comes to their school. This Episode’s Warrior Challenge Is a direct quote from Dave in the episode. He said: “We will learn to feel better about ourselves when we overtly commit an action everyday that benefits someone else, especially if it’s a perfect stranger. “ Your challenge is to start finding ways and taking actions to benefit someone else, particularly if they are a stranger. To unleash your inner warrior you must take action! Dave Challenges you to at least 3 times do something that benefits a stranger that you wouldn’t normally have done. Stay accountable by letting me know what you did on the TAMF website or social media sites. In this episode Dave covers: Then tendency to shut down A teacher’s responsibility Its in your DNA to fight back The reason active shooters are successful Cover vs. concealment How to plan an attack/ambush Moments of weakness Empowering action Psychological transitions Active shooter in different settings Mental Preparation to fight back Challenging yourself Valuing others over ourselves Active shooter profile Creating a Family Plan “When people act without hesitation on behalf of others, we win” “We will learn to feel better about ourselves when we overtly commit an action everyday that benefits someone else, especially if it’s a perfect stranger. “ https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-fight-back-nation-podcast/id1459578563 Check out his AWESOME SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS: YouTactical Nation http://www.youtactical.com/ IG @YouTactical_Nation FB YouTactical Fightbacknation@gmail.com Fight Back Nation www.Fightbacknation.org IG @fightbacknation FB FightBackNation YouTactical.US@gmail.com

Only about three miles from where I was when it occurred, I immediately thought of all our law enforcement officers that were involved in that shooting. And it moved my heart #VBStrong. I felt compelled to talk to you about what happened. Most of the victims in this recent shooting worked in the building where the shooting occurred. But there were a couple who just happened to be in there that day. I know there was a contractor that just happened to be in the building and, unfortunately, lost his life because he was applying to get a permit. He just happened to be in there at the wrong time. So, what would I do in this situation? Well I would FIGHT BACK. What does that mean? Well, in the dictionary it is defined as "to attack or try to defeat someone who is attacking or trying to defeat oneself," which I think is something that pertains to this situation. We had the opportunity to speak with Dave Acosta from @FightBackNation. Dave travels across the country teaching businesses and organizations how to prepare for potential life-threatening situations. He educates individuals on what to do if they are caught in a situation like this. Listen now as he shares with us his thoughts on how to fight back. It's time to Overcome and Conquer!
On Fresh is the Word, we like to deliver wisdom through great stories from the minds of bright creatives of pop culture. Through those stories, we like to dissect the journey of our guests and present actionable lessons and advice for our listeners no matter what career or avenue of artistry they pursue. This episode is also a two-parter, both recorded at this years C2E2 convention in Chicago. First, we have the return of the "hardest working man in comics", self-publishing creator from Columbus, Ohio, Victor Dandridge Jr., and then I talk with comic book artist known recently for his work on the Elvira comics on Dynamite Entertainment and Twelve Devil's Dancing, Dave Acosta. During my chat with Dandridge, we talked about his recent Kickstarter campaign for his U Cre-8 Comics brand that was able to raise funds to bring innovative programming and pop cultural engagement to the classroom for 3000 students in Central Ohio, how comics uplift the community and create a purpose for young creators, the next phase of his Vantage:Inhouse Productions publishing imprint, and about being a mentor, and much more. And after that, during my talk with Acosta, we talk about working on the Elvira comics and what makes the Elvira character so timeless, along with the Twelve Devil's Dancing comic he did with writer Erica Schultz (who was on Episode #124), and how he accesses his artistic style on each project. Dave Acosta is a mental fitness coach, motivational speaker and corporate culture expert and trainer. He has been a featured keynote speaker at corporate events and is highly sought after for his Elite Leadership presentations and camps. He works with individual athletes, business professionals, coaching staffs and corporate organizations. Dave is recognized for his ability to help elite individuals and corporations embrace new perspectives, which lead to a paradigm shift. His innovative approach and passionate delivery have an immediate effect on participants. One of the most common phrases used by clients to describe his presentation is “life-changing”. For over 20 years Dave has worked side by side with some of the world's most elite performers. He began his law enforcement career in Las Vegas where he spent 9 years working in specialized units, including six years as the point man on the North Las Vegas SWAT Team. He later became an international tactical instructor and team leader for high-risk protection teams in Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa and Latin America. He has conducted hundreds of real-world tactical missions and his company continues to provide protection and tactical training to clients around the globe. Dave works overseas with hand-picked operators and instructors that include former Navy Seals, Special Forces, and Marine Recon, operators. Over the last 20 years, Dave has focused on studying what makes these men so different from others. He uncovered four common characteristics that every elite performer possesses. These apply to all elite performers, whether they are competing in athletics, the corporate environment or the battlefield. The characteristics of success are the same regardless of the environment. The basic qualities that make a Navy Seal “elite” are the same qualities found in a pro-bowl NFL player, an Olympian, an extremely successful entrepreneur or a champion triathlete. Dave Acosta is a mental fitness coach and speaker on elite leadership. A former point-man on the Las Vegas SWAT, he works globally with elite military and security forces. Dave studies what makes the elite -- elite. In this show, we discuss the formula Dave created that includes four common denominators that every elite performer possesses. Here's what we cover in this show with Dave. When people ask Dave what he does, how does he like to reply? The front of Dave's website says, “Your Defining Moment." Why that statement? Do we need to be more aware of our surroundings today? What is Dave telling his kids when they are out and about? When asked to consult the Navy SEALS in Iraq, how did he handle his mindset amongst elite performers in a combat situation? Teamwork for SEALS was different from anything Dave had seen….why? SEALS know that if they cut a corner, someone else will play the price. Who pays? Never cut corners…what does that mean in the forces? Dave has a unique quality, he reinforces his students trust in themselves. How does he go about doing that? Dave believes in three things: recognise, assess and react - he explains that to us. Dave is a mental fitness coach; a corporate worker is not fit if they are mentally unfit. Where should they start to get mentally fit? How do elite performers sustain their high level of performance? Is purposeful suffering a form of stress inoculation? In Iraq, Dave learned, "I'm capable." He said to himself, "I'm capable." What made Dave believe that? What has Dave eliminated from his work to make is more efficient or productive? Quitting and giving up are two different things - why?
