Step back in time with us as we relive the poignant and powerful Olympic journey of runner and coach Jeff Galloway amid the energy of Atlanta. Our special episode, recorded with a live studio audience during the Jeff Galloway weekend, takes you through the highs and lows—from his electrifying qualification for the 1972 Olympics to the intense race that tested his limits. Jeff paints a vivid picture of training with the legendary Bill Bowerman, the friendships formed, and the life lessons learned, transporting you to a time of pure athletic pursuit. The thrill of competition is matched by the emotion of Jeff's Olympic race story, where overtraining and illness cast shadows over athletic dreams. The conversation takes a somber turn as we remember the Black September incident and its impact on the athletes and the Games. Yet, in the midst of challenge, Jeff's narrative is punctuated with moments of lightness—family support, the unexpected presence of Bing Crosby, and the cherished Olympic tradition of pin trading that even Steve Prefontaine couldn't escape. As the episode unfolds, the spirit of the Olympics comes alive with tales of international camaraderie and Jeff's personal reflections on the legendary Steve Prefontaine. The legacy of "Pre" continues to inspire runners today, and we honor his memory with stories of his tenacity, empathy, and unyielding passion for the sport. Join us for this unique blend of personal anecdotes, historical insights, and the electric atmosphere of our first live recording—an experience that we invite you to be a part of as we continue to bring more inspiring stories and guests to the forefront.Support the showLet Registered Dietitian Carissa Galloway lead you through a science-backed plan to transform the way you think about your diet.Visit www.GallowayCourse.com and use the code PODCAST at checkout for a great discount!Become a 321 Go! supporter. Season 2, Episode 21 - Under Appreciated at Disney Under Appreciated at Disney Hey everyone, I'm Mike, she's Sophie, and that's Brenda, and we're On the Road with Mickey! This is Season 2, Episode 21 for May 24, 2021, and our feature topic today is Under Appreciated at Disney. Today we are taking a look at the things at Disney that we feel are under-appreciated and need some love and recognition. So, grab a drink, relax, and join us as we talk about all the things that we came up with! Here's our rundown of what we talked about: Cheddar from the Big CheeseBrenda: From Sunday, Jan. 23 through Thursday, Jan. 28, 2022, the Disney Skyliner line between EPCOT International Gateway, Disney's Riviera Resort and Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort will be closed. During this time, Disney bus transportation will be provided for Guests to EPCOT. FriendShip boat service is also available for EPCOT, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney's BoardWalk Resort and Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts.Sophie: Over at Disney's Hollywood Studios Park, Disney has relocated the areas where ride sharing services pickup and dropoff from. But equally intriguing is that they have also installed Minnie Van signs in the same area. You may remember the Minnie Vans that were the polka dotted vehicles that you could hire through the Lyft service. It looks like they are returning, although we don't know when just yet.Mike: Disney has released a new offer for United Kingdom residents! The package includes up to $950 in Disney dining credits for guests staying two weeks at select Disney hotels. Also included are 14-day park tickets for the price of 7-day tickets for arrival dates in 2022. Memory Maker is also included with those tickets. Also, every booking will also receive a $200 Disney Gift Card. Finally, if UK residents book by July 17, 2021 in select Disney hotels, you'll receive a free celebration gift basket, which contains a Limited Edition 50th Anniversary commemorative coin, exclusive Disney merch and treats, and a Mickey insulated cooler bag.Mike: Lastly, from June 7-12, the Magic Kingdom's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closing for a short refurbishment.Connect with us! Yehaa Bob Jackson joined us on the show this week! Episode 20 - Yehaa Bob Jackson! This week, Sophie and I had the incredible privilege and tons of fun having Yehaa Bob Jackson join us On the Road with Mickey! It was so much fun, so as a result we skipped our normal Cheddar from the Big Cheese segment for this week. However, we do want to remind you to enter to win the Darth Vader Scentsy Warmer and $25 Disney Gift Card. That giveaway goes on until May 31st, so there's still time to enter and win! The rundown this week doesn't have as much, but here it is. Also, we are also posting our episodes in video format on the My Dreams of Disney YouTube channel, so go subscribe and watch this one -- it's a real hoot! Feature Topic: Special Guest, Yehaa Bob Jackson!Today we have a very special guest appearance. Many of you know him by name, reputation, or by seeing his show at Port Orleans Riverside, and others perhaps don’t know him at all. As far as we’re concerned, Yehaa Bob Jackson is a hidden treasure at Walt Disney World, and Sophie and I are honored that he’s joining us today on the show! Welcome, Yehaa Bob!How did you get your start in music? How long have you been performing over at Riverside? Is that the only venue you’ve performed at for Disney?Bob, one of the few bright spots during the home quarantine has been seeing you perform on Sunday nights. What caused you to put on these performances each week?As we were preparing for your interview, one thing I learned was that you have a new CD that was released back in February. Why don’t you tell us a little bit about The Journey? When things get back to some semblance of normal, and you are back at the River Roost, what days will you have performances?Outside of performing at Riverside and creating your CDs, is there anywhere else you perform? And we all know the theme song, can you explain why you chose it?This Day in Disney History for May 18Disney Who’s Who CharacterWalt Disney QuoteNext Week: The Disney Moderate ResortsSponsorshipOn the Road with Mickey is sponsored by Pixie Vacations by Mike Ellis and Tech Solutions NC. These Are the Ways to Save Money for a Walt Disney World Trip - WDW Opinion Ep. 44 A Disney World vacation is expensive. That’s not a controversial topic it’s just a fact. Most vacations are expensive no matter where you go. Sure Disney might be on another level but Disney World is on another level when it comes to a vacation experience. But there are a lot of things to pay for when it comes to a Disney trip. Obviously, the transportation and the hotel can be the most expensive but tickets can get up there too. Then you factor in dining, souvenirs and a whole list of other miscellaneous items and it adds up quickly. Just like I preach about having a strategy when it comes to your park days and vacation itself I also think it’s important to have a strategy when it comes to a Disney vacation budget. Keeping your eye on it before and during the trip can relieve you of a lot of headache and stress once you return home. Top Things to Do Outside the Theme Parks at Disney World - WDW Opinion Ep. 43 I’m sure I sound like a broken record at this point but I’ll start this segment off by saying one of my favorite phrases. Disney World really is a World unto itself. There’s so much to do outside of the parks there even. Often our trips get bogged down running from one attraction to the next and we spend the majority of our time within the walls of one of the theme parks. But there’s so much to see, do and experience outside of the parks. Some you probably have heard of before while others might be a new experience for you. But either way, this segment is dedicated to all the best things to do around Disney property that don’t require theme park admission. Plus, we discuss new food items coming to Artist Point and Be Our Guest, we catch a first glimpse of the Epcot Skyliner Gondola Station and the newly re-imagined Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland and we start spreading some theme park rumors. Stories discussed in News to Opinion New Food Offerings coming to Artist Point and Be Our Guest Disney Releases Full Look at Renovated Sleeping Beauty Castle; Reopening May 24th at Disneyland Win a $50 Disney Gift Card For the Month of May, we’ll be running a little contest and one luckily winner will get a $50 Disney Gift Card to use in the parks, online or at your local Disney store. What Disney's Movie Schedule Means for the Parks - WDW Opinion Ep. 42 Sometimes as Hank and I geek out about the latest in plastic bracelet technology or as we salivate over theme park operating hours it’s easy for us to forget that Disney really is a film company. That’s right for every robot bear they’ve created they have a dozen movies to show for it. And while this is a theme park-centric podcast it’s important to go back to Disney’s roots from time to time. After all, film really is the reason they are so successful today. Their film success is also why their theme parks are so successful too. It’s all about storytelling but it’s also about Disney’s ability to create incredible film characters that then can fit so perfectly into a theme park. Their theme parks are a gateway for you to enter into your favorite films. Just a few days ago Disney released their upcoming film slate for the next eight or so years. There’s still plenty of gaps, unknowns and yet to be announced projects but one thing is certain. Disney is in no way, shape or form slowing down when it comes to content creation. Whether it be Disney animation, Disney live action, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and Lucasfilm or anything coming from the newly acquired Fox, Disney has some huge releases that will be created in the years to come. Intellectual Property or IP continues to find its way into the parks now more than ever. But with the new slate of Disney owned films, how will that affect the parks. What characters, franchises and stories will make their way into the parks and how will it reshape current entities already there. It’s time to daydream because in this segment will be giving our 2 cents, whatever that’s worth, on what we think will change in the parks based on upcoming films. It should be a rather interesting discussion. Plus, Disney is giving resort guests more options when selecting thier Magic Bands and this Fall brings a huge new perk to resort guests in the form or more Extra Magic Hours Stories discussed in News to Opinion New MagicBand Upgrade Options Coming Soon at Walt Disney World Resort New Extra, Extra Magic Hours Daily at Walt Disney World Resort Theme Parks Includes Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios All the Disney-Fox movie release dates through 2027 See the schedule we discussed in the main segment here. All Star Movies Resort Review - WDW Opinion Ep. 41 There are so many places to stay on Disney property. When you go there a lot it’s always fun to pick a new place to stay. Where you stay really helps to determine what type of trip you have. You’re staying at the poly? Then you’ll probably be headed to the Magic Kingdom a lot. Maybe you’re at the Yacht Club so you can walk into Epcot. Perhaps you have a room at Port Orleans Riverside so you can hop on a boat to Disney Springs every night. Whatever it is, it will surely be a different trip depending upon where you stay. Of course the categories of Deluxe, Moderate and Value play a big part in that as well. Recently I got the chance to stay at All Star Movies in one of the newly renovated rooms. While it has a Value price tag the lines between resort levels are beginning to blur. In this segment will say what we liked about the resort, what we didn’t like and give our overall rating. Now, unfortunately, Hank wasn't able to join me on this trip but a good friend of the podcast Austin was. We want to hear his thoughts to so we are happy to welcome back to the show Austin Lee. Plus, Toy Story Land is getting a new restaurant, a new logo has been reviled for Hollywood Studios, Avengers End Game is killing it at the box office and I’ll be sharing details of a new contest we are having where you could win an awesome prize. Mousetalgia reports on "Disney's Mid-Century Modern - to the World's Fair and Beyond," a panel discussion held at the Walt Disney Family Museum with Garner Holt's Bill Butler, historian Alan Hess, and historian Bill Cotter, the preeminent expert on the World's Fairs. The panelists discussed the influence of modern design on Disney's mid-century productions, including Disneyland and the 1964-65 World's Fair. Clean lines, contemporary material and modern sensibilities influenced both Disney's artists and the creative works they developed, and we discuss many of Walt Disney's modern projects, including his first Burbank campus, his television productions, Disneyland's Space Bar automat, the Disneyland Hotel, and the House of the Future. Bill Cotter also discussed the '64-'65 World's Fair, and Walt's cutting-edge design for the New York attractions. Then, Mousetalgia debuts a new feature: "Giving You a Hand with the Land," our touring advice segment in which we have callers present their unique trip-planning situations, and then we answer their questions and help plan the trip for those circumstances. Today, Michele joins the show to make plans for a reunion with a best friend sans their families to celebrate a 40th birthday. Plus - if you had to experience a single attraction 365 days in a row... which would you choose? Bonus: you could win a $50 Disney Gift Card - listen for details!
