As Brad Guigar travels to Bad Axe, Michigan, to spend a fun-filled week with his family, Kevin McShane steps in to talk comics with Dave Kellett. In this conversation, David and Kevin discuss various topics related to comics, including their experiences with "Love Is" comics at their weddings, the potential future advancements in comic-making technology, and different marketing strategies for sharing comics. They explore the idea of using VR technology to create a more immersive drawing experience, the enduring appeal of 2D comics, and the importance of building an audience through platforms like mailing lists and social media. Kevin discusses the various social media platforms he uses to share his comics, including Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, Mastodon, Twitter, and Imgur. He explains that Imgur is like a nicer version of Reddit and that he uses it to drive traffic to his website. David is intrigued by Imgur and asks Kevin for a pitch on why he should be posting there. Kevin explains that Imgur started as an image hosting service for Reddit and has a social media aspect to it. They also discuss their motivations for posting on social media and the validation they seek from likes and engagement. They explore the idea of creating books and the number of comics needed for a book. They also discuss the possibility of changing their approach to comics if compensation wasn't a factor. They end the conversation by addressing a question from a listener who creates gardening advice cartoons and wonders if she should reduce the number of panels to cater to social media attention spans. In this final part of the conversation, David and Kevin discuss the different types of content that perform well on social media, including informative, emotional, and aspirational content. They also provide advice on interviewing other creators, emphasizing the importance of research and making the interviewee feel comfortable. The hosts share funny anecdotes about their experiences with interviews and express their pride in not discussing AI in the conversation.THIS WEEK"Love Is" comics at WeddingsThe Future of Comic-Making Technology: VR and AI The Enduring Appeal of 2D ComicsBuilding an Audience: Mailing Lists and Social MediaNavigating Social Media PlatformsBalancing Panel Count for Social Media The Power of Different Content TypesInterviewing Other CreatorsAvoiding AI in Comics Technology DiscussionsFunny Anecdotes from Interview ExperiencesTAKEAWAYSLove Is comics can add a unique and nostalgic touch to weddings and other events. The future of comic-making technology may involve advancements in VR and AI.2D comics have a timeless appeal and can survive alongside other forms of media.Building an audience through platforms like mailing lists and social media is crucial for sharing and promoting comics. Ryan Carver learned a key lesson about marketing his gym to people over age 55: Make it about THEM, not about HIM.Ryan, owner of Leverage Fitness Solutions near Salt Lake City, told me he realized he had to make his content more emotional and follow the “hero's journey” – with the client as the hero and him as the helper. They're Luke Skywalker. He's Obi-Wan Kenobi.I loved it when Ryan told me this – because this is a key point I make to gym owners about marketing: It's not about you!Ryan recently doubled his gym's space and is enjoying strong growth with his business. So, I asked him to come on Optimal Aging and tell other fitness professionals how he communicates and serves thiss often-neglected segment of the population. Ryan's one of the nicest guys in fitness. Hello, friends! Back with part 2 of the rapid fire Q&A. There were so many awesome questions on my original post that I couldn't stop with one episode. Here are the questions I cover: Hi Duff, you've touched on this before but… have you ever come across anyone stuck thinking they have reached their maximum potential in life/not sure where to go from their current spot in life, and is there anything you could offer from a physiological perspective to overcome this? Currently feeling like I will be forever stuck in this moment and moving forward seems nearly impossible. (Sorry in advance if the question doesn't make sense) How does one get over the expectation of being in a relationship? Like you grow up watching relationships and relationships but like...what if it doesn't happen? Should it happen? Also...how can one finally let go of what their parents didn't do while one was growing up... How can you learn to accept compliments and not be awkward? I also talk a bit about my own strategies for combatting the darkness that can come with working in a heavily emotional field. As always, you can send me your questions to duffthepsych@gmail.com. All the way from the U.K. Roberto Sodano a.k.a. Audioglider deliver's Tims 150. There are points in every artists musical journey that highlight a sea change or a shift in consciousness. The first of those moments for Roberto Sodano was the time he saw Kraftwerk as a spotty teen with dodgy 80’s haircut. Their machine funk sound completely captivated him and his love of all things electronic began. Born in Wales to Italian parents, the ’Taffia’ as they were affectionately known, finally relocated to London after stints all over the UK and Central Europe. Growing up in a bleak post-industrial city drove Roberto’s need to escape through all manner of musical discovery: experience borne out in his esoteric musical influences of 80s and 90s shoegaze, from bands such as Ride, MBV and the Cocteau Twins through to synth pioneers including the aforementioned Kraftwerk and a pre-Dare Human League. “Music has always been there for me. It’s a friend that doesn’t judge you, a comfort blanket and a kick up the arse when you need it.” Choosing to make music as much as become a DJ, Roberto released tracks under a range of pseudonyms before finally settling on his current nom-de-plume ‘Audioglider’. His big break came with the licensing of two tracks under the new project name - Whiskers and Zusammenallein - for Nick Warren’s Global Underground CD, GU30 Paris. “These were my first official releases as Audioglider, it’s all been downhill from there!” he quips, as he’s now held in high regard by an army of fans and industry insiders alike. A master of both uptempo club tracks and more winsome downtempo fayre, he cites influences as wide ranging as Ulrich Schnauss, Massive Attack and School of Seven Bells for his more cerebral back catalogue additions which includes three albums for Tripswitch’s Section Records - Accidental Beauty, Subaquamarine and Kollision (with Xspance). Referencing his influences can be heard as echoes on everything that Roberto does, while at the same time, they glisten in their own unique light. Translucent in sound. “I don’t stick to a formula so I can explore and develop my musical identity without boundaries.” One of the most telling sea change events for Roberto was playing his first gig at a disused warehouse in East Berlin. “It was my very first go on 1210s and I blagged the gig after meeting some Germans at MoS.” he says, “I got a crash course at Zoom Records one afternoon from Billy Nasty and then flew to Berlin next day!” Gigs at Ministry of Sound and beyond bookmarked the 90s and early 00s, a vibrant time for dance music and for the development of progressive house. Even now Roberto’s ambitions are as strong as ever. with a flurry of releases and remixes in 2018 on labels such as Mirabilis, Transpecta, ManMadeMusic, Pangea, Modern Agenda, Emotional Content, Section Records, and more and scheduled into first half of 2019 including an exciting new album with longtime collaborator and friend, Xspance with an exciting live show. With his recently launched new show Interstellar on Frisky Radio, crashing into their top ten this week, and his stunning set at Modern Agenda's label showcase at ADE 2018, the future is looking bright in 2019 for Audioglider and his sonic doodling. Defining Emotional Health The Help Guide (2016) states that emotionally healthy people are those who can control their emotions and behaviour, who show resilience in troubling situations and can build strong, lasting relationships (The Help Guide, 2016). Emotional health is not merely the dearth of mental health. Just as the absence of depression does not mean that someone is happy or emotionally healthy. It is also important to note that like any desired state emotional health requires dedication and effort. A healthy emotional state doesn’t just happen (The Help Guide, 2016). What is Emotional Intelligence??? And how does that play with JEDI’s? Emotional Intelligence (EQ or EI) is a term created by two researchers – Peter Salavoy and John Mayer – and popularized by Dan Goleman in his 1996 book of the same name. We define EI as the ability to: Recognize, understand and manage our own emotions Recognize, understand and influence the emotions of others ReLearn: Prof. DEAN = Understanding good and bad emotional health. This part five of a five-part series on the four main presentation styles. Last week, we covered the Authoritative Presentation Style which has the opposite strengths and weaknesses of this style. In the prior two weeks, we covered the Energetic Presentation Styleand the Analytical Presentation Style (Technical Presentations). This week, we will cover the strengths and weaknesses of the Empathetic Presentation Style. (Psychologists call this style of presenter a Sanguine.) This is the style of presenter that is more “indirect” and “emotional”. Just as a review, by indirect, we mean that this style of presenter will often be more cautious and slower to act. By emotion, we mean that this style will focus more on the feelings of others than facts and data. You will find this style of presentation more frequently in certain industries such as the teaching, philanthropic organizations, and service industries. For full podcast notes, visit Empathetic Presentation Style Great for Teaching and Emotional ContentSHOW NOTES: https://www.fearlesspresentations.com/empathetic-presentation-style-great-for-teaching-and-emotional-content/

16 years ago the world was transformed. I was 13. In many worldviews that age signifies the beginning of the transition from child to adult. Certain events have an immediate, massive historical impact at all levels. Tonight we will remember perhaps the most significant event of my lifetime as measured by the collective emotion of memory. Walking around New York City today I was struck by conflicting senses of solemnity and normalcy. It led me to ask a couple questions that we will discuss tonight. What determines the emotional content and strength of a memory? How do our worldviews inform our approach to painful memories in particular?WordPress: https://amateursociety.wordpress.com/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/OntheObjectiveSpreaker: https://www.spreaker.com/show/theamateursocietySteemit: https://steemit.com/@amateursocietyGab: https://gab.ai/AmateurSocietyFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/amateursociety/Twitter: https://twitter.com/ontheobjective

In the final episode of a 4 part conversation with Erika Lenz, Scrum Master, former poet, evolutionary biologist, and tutor, we discuss what makes Erika unique, comfort with the creative process, the prevalence of mental illness in the arts, grounding others in difficult situations, the power of divergent thinking, building bridges, social dancing, choreography, and floorcraft, helping others to pivot in order to change the behavior of a team, the benefits of adding emotional content in tech environments, the benefits in valuing everyone, and kinesthetic intelligence.
“What was that? An Exhibition? We need emotional content. Now try again!” What did Bruce Lee mean by “Emotional Content?” He was describing the feeling of being totally present in your body and connected to your own life force. A spiritual life force that is the energy of creation. This force helps you become a human being from moment to moment. When you are creating emotional content, you are creating in awareness, openness and receptivity to everything around you. You are in a state of relating to your surroundings. You are not in isolation—you are connected. “Don’t think, FEEL.” Don’t pull yourself out of a real moment by thinking and intellectualizing. Stay in the moment and be totally present for the total experience. Emotional content is also about the creation of art. Art is the communication of authentic feelings. We are all artists of our own lives. Bruce Lee believed that art is the work of enlightenment. And the origin of enlightenment comes from understating your own heart and living whole-heartedly. Action step for this week: release yourself to spontaneous action when you’re inspired by your own spiritual life force. #AAHA (Awesome Asians and Hapas) This week’s shoutout goes to Olympic fencing champion Alexander Massialas. Alexander is part of the US men’s fencing team that won the bronze medal in Rio and he also won an individual silver medal in foil fencing. Alexander is a Hapa, born to a Greek father and Taiwanese mother. Thanks for representing the US with such excellence and athletic mastery. Alexander, you are awesome! #BruceLeeMoment (Bruce Lee’s philosophy in action IRL) This week’s #BruceLeeMoment comes from one of our listeners David Hunt: I wanted to share a Bruce Lee moment that I experienced that actually encouraged me to embed it into my university's graduation speech :) The Story At the time, I resided in Philadelphia and traveled back home to Charlotte, North Carolina for winter vacation. The day was nothing less than relaxing - I caught up with old friends, tried some new food, and walked through the mall all in solitude. A few hours into my excursions and my cell phone died. Uh oh - no calls and more importantly no uber to the family dinner that was fast approaching. The weather was unusually warm so I decided to walk the five miles and take a chance that I'd show up for dinner on time. Along my walk I came across a stream. In some areas the water was swirling around, others it was still, and yet other places the water was moving extremely rapidly over twigs or rocks. I thought to myself if I took an empty glass and collected some of that water, it is the same exact substance although separate. And if I poured it back in, it would merge seamlessly. In a cathartic moment of clarity, I began to question - why can't we do that, why can't us humans interact on such a collaborative level? Placing appropriate attention on our similarities while still acknowledging our differences. Water exists as vapor, liquid, and ice. Humans come in different races, ethnicities, align with different religions and so forth. Yet water always retains its...being of water flowing through vastly different environments adapting itself and always merging with its different forms in some capacity. That's when it hit me - I viewed water as love, this egoless aesthetic of oneness. And not oneness in the sense that we don't have uniqueness but oneness in the sense of how we can interact with each other peacefully. In that moment, it became my mission to be love. When love wakes up in the morning, I want it to say, "I want to be like David." Cheers. Wishing you all a wonderful day and thank you so much for all that you do. I listened to my first Bruce Lee podcast yesterday on Honesty and thought I'd share this moment with you since you all inspired me. With Palpable Vibes, David V.
