This was an age when talented young filmmakers such as Scorsese, Coppola, and Spielberg, along with a new breed of actors, including De Niro, Pacino, and Nicholson, became the powerful figures who would make such modern classics as The Godfather, Chinatown, Taxi Driver, & Jaws. Easy Riders, Raging Bulls follows the wild ride that was Hollywood in the '70s — an unabashed celebration of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll (both onscreen and off) and a climate where innovation and experimentation reigned supreme. Based on hundreds of interviews with the directors themselves, producers, stars, agents, writers, studio executives, spouses, and ex-spouses, this is the full, candid story of Hollywood's last golden age.” Pick up a copy hereOWC Thunderbolt Go DockThe OWC Thunderbolt Go Dock is the first of its kind, full-featured Thunderbolt dock with a built-in power supply and 11 ports, for additional ease and connectivity while on the Go. As Dwayne Johnson's cultural appreciation exceeds even his legendary physical might, he breaks free from the confines of the Fast & Furious franchise to team up with Jason Statham and fight the evil robot, Idris Elba. Technically the movie is called ‘Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw'. How they exercised enough restraint to avoid adding “Brought to You By Mountain Dew Code Red” we will never know. Of course, the Fast & Furious movies concern the exploits of a band of action heroes who do crimes, drive fast cars, and talk about how they are a family. The Rock first joined the series back in ‘Fast Five', but word on the street is that he and series producer / main star Vin Diesel get along less than famously, so this spinoff film is a way for the studio execs to have their cake and eat it too: Dwayne Johnson, reliable draw that he is, stays in the Fast & Furious-iverse but doesn't have to do movies with Vin Diesel, preventing the two from clashing over who is bigger, balder and more ethnically ambiguous. Dwayne Johnson plays Hobbs, a great big tough guy federal agent turned outlaw, who teams up with Shaw, played by Jason Statham, a great big tough guy who was always an outlaw, and they run around battling evildoers who are chasing Shaw's sister, played by Vanessa Kirby, because she has ingested some sort of virus, maybe? Or nanotech? It's not critical. Hemal, of course, is extremely loyal to the Fast & Furious movies, largely because the late Paul Walker was so darn handsome. Brian could barely finish this one, so if our hosts disagreeing upsets you, you have been warned.
The Toolman himself, Steve, returns to the show to discuss Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw! The boys talk about how this franchise is definitely still about cars, franchise gossip, and Steve calls out Ken & CJ. #StopTheInvisibleHats #GiveSteveOverlordPowers #ChangeTheColorOfTheHatsAndJacket #PrayersUpForFastX #HelpToolmanSeeWhatTheOverlordsCan Movie discussed: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) If you enjoy the Overtalking Podcast, please RATE and especially REVIEW on iTunes or wherever you listen! Vanessa Kirby joins the show to discuss her haunting portrayal of a young mother who experiences an unfathomable loss in “Pieces of a Woman,” directed by Kornél Mundruczó and written by Kata Wéber. The role marks Kirby’s first lead in a feature film, and her performance was awarded the Best Actress Volpi Cup at this year’s Venice Film Festival.Kirby began her career in the theater, later made her television debut in “The Hours,” delivered scene-stealing work in the action franchises “Mission Impossible” and “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw,” and her critically acclaimed performance as Princess Margaret in “The Crown” made her a BAFTA winner and Emmy nominee. In this interview, she shares the intensive research she undertook to prepare for “Pieces of a Woman,” what she was focused on getting right in her performance, and her experience shooting the film’s astonishing 23 minute opening sequence that was shot in one take. She also reflects on the beginning of her career, the kind of characters she’s been drawn to, and she shares her advice for young actors.

This is episode #38 of the series called "first watch/first listen" where we do little to no research except for watching a movie or listening to an album only once and then talking about it based only on our feeble memory. **SPOILERS** - - - - We gotta hand it to them. Vin Diesel and the team down at Fast & Furious HQ really put together something you could slap on screen, and you know what, I'm proud of them. It takes a lot of guts to write a title like that and good on them, they stuck to their guns and went for it. This week the boys discuss more trailers and news and movies than you can shake a cybernetically enhanced Idris Elba at. They talk about the massive news of the week (perhaps month); that Spider-Man's future in the MCU looks to be uncertain, and how both Disney and Sony are trying to one-up each other. Also, the discuss the recently announced "Matrix 4" film that certainly won't attempt to change history. The boys also talk about the fantastic new trailers for "The Report" featuring Adam Driver and a number of other fantastic trailers, one in particular that scares Andrew(???). All that and more as they jump right into the review of the new film from the Fast & the Furious universe it's "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw." And baby, this is definitely a new film. There are back-to-school sales everywhere now and Hollywood has its own version. It's called "August." There are good movies and not so good movies too. And the TV, cable and streaming services are doing it as well. Luckily we've had a chance to look at a lot of it. We've got this week's raunchy comedy "Good Boys" which Bill Bregoli tells us features sixth-graders, drugs, swearing and, uh, sex toys. There's also "Blinded by the Light" about a Pakistani boy in 1980s England who worships Bruce Springsteen. Not to mention the current box-office champ "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw." Bill McCuddy talks about the finale of "The Loudest Voice in the Room." Neil tells us in no uncertain terms what he thought of the third season of "A Handmaid's Tale." Bill Bregoli talks about the second season of "Derry Girls" as well as the third seeason of "GLOW." And finally, Bill McCuddy talks about show should be cast in the inevitable movie about Jeffrey Epstein. Admit it, you've been thinking the same thing yourself.

This week on End Credits, why can't we be friends? We will marinate on how opposites attract when it comes to action movies with this week's review, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Along with that, we'll be discussing how another action star is portrayed in another recent release, the fall of a legend, new trailers, and how TIFF has done the impossible and made the genders roughly equal. This Wednesday, August 7, at 2 pm, Adam A. Donaldson and Candice Lepage will discuss: Bruce Alrighty. Since you can't have a Quentin Tarantino movie without controversy, the director seems to have landed in it again with his latest film, Once Upon a Time ...in Hollywood, and its depiction of Bruce Lee. Lee's daughter and his protege don't like, but Tarantino's reverence for the martial arts icon is well known, so has something been lost in translation? The Last Mogul. Robert Evans is a legend from the late-60s/early-70s era in Hollywood, and he was just fired. The man behind The Godfather, Rosemary's Baby, and Chinatown just got his long-term contract with Paramount Pictures cancelled, but is this the sad last chapter for an influential producer, or is this a sign that Paramount's starting a new chapter? Equal Play. More announcements for this year's schedule at the Toronto International Film Festival reveals that the organizers have kept their commitment to gender parity with the fest's featured directors, but it also reveals a compelling number of films featuring stories from Indigenous people and people of colour. We'll look at the latest released titles. Something for Everyone... This week on trailers, there are so many interesting films coming up that we have four picks this week. First, it's Romper Room meets Dawn of the Dead in Little Monsters, then we go to a spooky and strange Lighthouse, and then we de-age all your favourite actors in The Irishman, before going all the way back to World War I with Sam Mendes in 1917. REVIEW: Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019). After eight films, The Fast and the Furious has finally spun-off two of its key characters into their own adventure. Don't expect anything too outside the F&F wheelhouse though as Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham become the latest, mismatched buddy cop duo in Hollywood as they team-up to beat super bad guy Idris Elba. But with all these he-men, is it a woman that ends up stealing the show? End Credits is on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca Wednesday at 2 pm.

Time to take a trip into the analog Hollywood of Quentin Tarantino's dreams! First up on the show is a discussion of ONCE UPON A TIME...IN HOLLYWOOD, the latest from the film provocateur. After that, things get a bit weepier and heartfelt with a chat about THE FAREWELL, the second feature from Lulu Wang. And then we close things out with the loud, long action-bro-fest, HOBBS & SHAW. Happy almost Friday everyone! Sorry this pod came out later than we typically post but your hosts had a busy week. The jokes have been made, the off topics were discussed probably too much, and the Reels have been picked for this week’s review of Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Our copious off topics include Shark Week, The Boys, helicopter physics, and spin-offs. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is not a bad movie but it is nothing special either. It is exactly what it touts itself as in the trailer. An over the top action film with an incredible villain with some family values sprinkled in. The chemistry between Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason “Badass” Statham is fantastic, especially when they start ripping on each other. The sets are well done and the cinematography is great but nothing special. One of the biggest disappointments of the film is the lack of supercars. They had one McLaren 750S driven by Shaw with Hobbs and Hattie squeezed in next to him, ya right. For a franchise known for over the top souped up cars with amazing chases this film does not deliver. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is an entertaining movie but you will not leave the theater in deep discussion about this one. Mike Talent who has seen all of the Fast & Furious franchise gives the movie 3 out of 5 Reels. With a surprise upset especially for Mike Talent, no nickname Matt gives Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw 2.5 out of 5 Reels. The guys are going to try to review 2 movies next week if they can. So many movies so little time! The new release we will be talking about based on a series of childhood Scholastic books is Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. You heard it here folks Matt is actually excited to see a horror movie! For our second film if we get the time will finally be the Tributary review of the Netflix Original Revenger. The Pair race through memory lane to recall the origin of the franchise and compare it to the offering in theaters today. Carrying the torch in this spin-off film, we get a chance to see the comedic chemistry between Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. Does the film, however, breathe new life into a stale franchise that has fans teetering on its future? Or does it take out its own brakes and tanker the rest of this street-car saga off the cliff? Tune in to find out in this week's episode of The Filmlosophers!

Summer is winding down and that means we’re finally (hopefully) reaching the last of the big, dumb blockbusters here at Breakfast All Day. And “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” has got to be the biggest and dumbest of all, so naturally Matt, Alonso and Christy have some thoughts. We also talk about the excellent indie drama “Luce,” the nap-inducing “The Mountain” starring Jeff Goldblum and “Honeyland,” the documentary about Macedonian bee farmers you never knew you needed in your life. (It’s one of the year’s best films.) We’ve also recorded a spoiler talk for “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood,” since so many of you asked for it. And over at our Patreon, we discuss a bunch of new trailers, including “The Lighthouse” and “The Irishman.” Come hang with us during the dog days.
Jaw-dropping action, cool one-liners and the industrial-strength charisma of #DwayneJohnson (https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=%23DwayneJohnson) and #JasonStatham (https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=%23JasonStatham) . Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw proves that these ingredients are enough to make a reasonably entertaining movie. Watch the movie review by #AnupamaChopra (https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=%23AnupamaChopra) to know more.
On this week's ScreenPicks Movie Podcast, we review two new movies. First, we look at Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, starring Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba, and Vanessa Kirby. It's a spinoff of the famous franchise. Then we review Love, Antosha, a documentary about the late Anton Yelchin.
On this edition of the Cinema Clash: a spin-off embraces its cheesiness and delivers a fun ride, FAST & FURIOUS PRESENTS: HOBBS & SHAW; plus, two intriguing documentaries about icons in their respective fields – MIKE WALLACE IS HERE and DAVID CROSBY: REMEMBER MY NAME.
Hap Erstein reviews "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw," "The Farewell" and his Art House Pick of the Week, "The Other Story."
Booksmart and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, two movies that defy segues and punctuation. We could try and sell you on how the two films treat of gender from their respective positions of indie movie critical darling and monster global franchise about cars...and spies? But let's not. Look we've been drinking some wine you guys.
Stress balls, yay! Also, this week we’re talking SWORD OF TRUST (3:30), a laid back-ish comedy directed by Lynn Shelton, written by Shelton and Mike O’Brien, and starring Marc Maron as a pawn shop owner who happens upon a potentially big money maker. Then it’s the big fuggin’ movie of the week, FAST & FURIOUS PRESENTS: HOBBS & SHAW (18:30). Testosterone? You bet. Larfs? Sure. And, of course, kicks in the balls aplenty. Strap in.
Well we did it, two pods in one week! Fair warning up front it’s a long one but a good one. Today Mike Talent and Matt discuss Quentin Tarantino’s 9th film according to him, Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood. Extra topics include what is feature length, QT’s top 3 films, LaLa and Heather walk out, and sneaking booze into a movie theater. The hosts are really divided on this film. They both are massive QT fans. He is an incredible story teller not only in his writing but also his shooting of a film. Mike really loved Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood from start to finish. He particularly enjoyed the amazing sets and driving scenes with all the nostalgic incredible automobiles. Matt on the other hand thought it dragged at the beginning and an hour could easily be cut from this film. They both wanted more of certain scenes and story lines and less of others. Matt also thinks Margo Robbie got robbed. She did an incredible job as Sharon Tate but the character was not in the film enough. Mike gives an above average rating of 4 out of 5 Reels. Matt gracious gives QT’s 9th film 3 out of 5 Reels. Next week the guys talk about the over the topic action film Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Matt has not seen any of the Fast & Furious franchise films since Tokyo Drift so this might be an interesting review. If the hosts have the time they will also get around to doing a Tributary review of the Netflix Original Revenger. Thanks for tuning in and supporting the show. Please support our sister podcasts The Bluemilk Podcast and The Mile High Show also based in beautiful Prescott, Arizona. They are way better podcasts than ours. Seriously. Get your motor running, this week we heed our need for speed with THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS! Just as the Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson starring spin-off, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, revs its engine in cinemas, we look under the hood of the original starring Paul Walker as (shhh!) an undercover cop trying to infiltrate a drag racing group of thieves headed by Vin Diesel. This is episode #28 of the series called "first watch/first listen" where we do little to no research except for watching a movie or listening to an album only once and then talking about it based only on our feeble memory. **SPOILERS** - - - - You know what's worse than your favourite company taking to Twitter to try and swindle you into buying their product with clever references and memes about how corporate Twitter is becoming a post-apocalyptic wasteland whose only purpose is to get you to buy their shit but then they're only doing that exact thing? This is episode #20 of the series called "first watch/first listen" where we do little to no research except for watching a movie or listening to an album only once and then talking about it based only on our feeble memory. **SPOILERS** - - - - Once again your petitions didn't work. If you want them off the air and to cease and deists you will have to do it by force! They will not stop bringing another podcast into the world! And this week, god damnit, they watched "Velvet Buzzsaw," the new film by Dan Gilroy. Also on this weeks episode they riff about about new "Dune" reboot and Pat reads Andrew a tweet he found particularly amusing.
