Many evacuees from Fukushima Prefecture cite anxiety about a lack of medical services as a reason for their hesitation to return to their hometowns devastated by a severe nuclear accident following the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami. More than half of the population who lived in Futaba just before the triple disaster are still living outside their hometowns, although evacuation orders have been lifted in many places in the county. In Fukushima, the number of medical institutions has plunged since the disaster. Many of the 132 medical facilities that had operated in the prefecture have suspended operations, leaving only 47 currently in service.

13 years have passed since the catastrophic events of March 11th's Great East Japan earthquake & tsunami, along with the nuclear disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi Plant. Fukushima, as a prefectural community, has demonstrated incredible resiliency in its recovery efforts, but unfortunately there still is a residual stigma attached to the prefecture. One way that Fukushima has been combating that reputation is through some creative initiatives involving education through first-hand experiences. Today, the Krewe sits down with William McMichael, an integral figure in these projects, to discuss how Fukushima University's Fukushima Ambassadors Program & Hope Tourism have helped introduce the world to Fukushima in a different way. ------ About the Krewe ------The Krewe of Japan Podcast is a weekly episodic podcast sponsored by the Japan Society of New Orleans. I'm not alone in finding Japanese museums about earthquakes and tsunamis interesting and impactful; I know my friend Catherine who travelled with me in Tohoku last month is the same. This episode will test out whether it's just the two of us, or if more of you share this feeling - a yearning to understand more about these kinds of disasters, to get to know more about the human stories behind them, and a keen desire to share in the "hope tourism" equation of the scenario. In this episode, I talk about three parts of my recent trip to Japan that fit under this idea of "hope tourism" - and not "dark tourism". As well as visiting the "Kaze no Denwa", we spent many hours at two new museums in northern Japan: the Iwate Tsunami Memorial Museum in Rikuzentakata, Iwate, and the Great East Japan Earthquake and Nuclear Disaster Memorial Museum in Futaba, Fukushima. We both found these visits so impactful, and I'm still mulling over a lot of what I saw and learnt there to this day. In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Chika and Giana re fired up about Blue Spring Ride and more than ready to deconstruct character motivations. Please note that Chika and Giana are reacting solely to the anime, and not the manga and anime. Listen to our disclaimer for more details. Both hosts question why Futaba felt the need to lie to Makita about her feelings for Kou in episode 6. They unleash the hottest fudge in history on Futaba's old friend, Yumi, in episode 7. Lastly, they rejoice in true friendship while also clapping back on infuriating behaviors that are corrosive to self-esteem in episode 8. Get ready for a ride, because Shoujo Sundae does not hold back this week. In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana and Chika discuss episodes three, four, and five of Blue Spring Ride! In episode three, Floats Your Boat teeters precariously between being a glorified Banana Split segment. The sundae girls still can't quite get over Kou's “cheap” comment. In episode four, Giana and Chika applaud Tanaka-sensei for the way he handled an iffy situation, and also express mixed feelings about the “romantic” scenes between Kou and Futaba. In episode five, Giana comes up with some far-fetched symbolism about Sock the cat. Chika makes some interesting predictions regarding the evolving love triangle between Futaba, Kou, and Makita. Recorded in the dark days of 2020, we ranked the cast of every Persona game to produce a list that was almost entirely compromises. I put off editing this because I was going to make it into a video, but instead take it as a bonus episode. No matter what anyone says F is for Futaba and the tier she belongs in.
Welcome to Take Your Time, a podcast by Jonathon Dornbush and Tom Marks where the duo will be playing Persona 5 Royal in real time, playing along with P5R's in-game calendar. Join Tom and Jonathon for episode 45 as we dive into the week of Feb. 7 - 13 in the world of P5R, which means we're largely just covering one day. BUT! We've got plenty more to discuss on our Persona 5 recap show. As our Persona 5 Royal podcast and playthrough continues, Jonathon and Tom use this week's Take Your Time to discuss the first of a series of post-P5 Royal content moments, including what's going on with Joker since he's been imprisoned, how the Phantom Thieves are helping him, and much more. We also use the week to give our overall thoughts on the wider Persona 5 Royal additions - how did all the new content hit us, what did we think of Akechi, Yoshizawa, and Maruki's integration into the base Persona 5 storyline, how does the new Royal semester work in the context of the larger story, and much more. Plus, we dig into Futaba's Confidant storyline to continue our rundown of the Persona 5 confidants we haven't discussed yet. Plus, our Persona 5 podcast offers another Pop Quiz question, answers listener questions, and a lot more. Futaba is just trying to be great saleswomen, but her senpai Takeda, is just getting on her nerves! Futaba is barely over 4ft tall and Takeda keeps treating her like kid! Though she claims to only want his respect, her coworkers think that she might be harboring some other feelings for Takeda. Can Futaba get the respect she so craves, or will she forever be the child of the office? This week Falcon and Condor talk about the classic, My Senpai is Annoying You can hop in our discord for more fun discussions and podcast updates! https://discord.gg/yCFd6Y5
Welcome to Take Your Time, a podcast by Jonathon Dornbush and Tom Marks where the duo will be playing Persona 5 Royal in real time, playing along with P5R's in-game calendar. Join Tom and Jonathon for episode 39 as we dive into the week of Dec. 27 - Jan. 2 and get into the brand-new Royal section of the Persona 5 calendar. As our Persona 5 Royal podcast and playthrough continues, Jonathon and Tom of course spend an extremely long time recounting the skipped days of the week that Persona 5 doesn't cover. No, of course we quickly get into things, as we begin examining what the Phantom Thieves get up to in Persona 5 Royal around New Year's Eve, discuss their party plans, and begin our journey into 2022 with two quite strange days of Persona 5 Royal. Jonathon break down all the big P5 reveals and story beats of these days, including the introduction of Royal's new palace proper, how Akechi and Kasumi's respective stories play into the new content, and much more. We look into what's going on with Morgana, Futaba, and the rest of the gang as things start to seem off in the new year, and we dig into some of P5 Royal's biggest twists and turns yet, including some major character revelations, long-seeded story ideas, and even an Easter egg Tom layered into this very show! We also start off the show diving into some of your comments about the last couple weeks of Persona 5's calendar, how you felt about P5's boss battles, story reveals, and much more. Hi!In this episode, I talk about a manga-adapted low-budget Japanese TV show 'Lifebelt' (Ukiwa), which is directed by Kazama Hiroki (风间太树)and stars Kadowaki Mugi(门脇麦).I knew Kazama san from Cherry Magic, and became fond of how he uses cinematography to tell the delicate exchanges of emotions between individuals, often in a workplace setting, and how he utilizes elements of fantasy to investigate longing between unlikely lovers. First I compare his works with that of Lucy Forbes and Benedict Spence, whose works include The End of The F***ing World. I point out Kazama and Lucy&Benedict are able to transform a seemingly cheesy story plot into something profoundly moving. Their takes on humor and awkwardness are spot-on. Their cinematography enhances the style of the production. Lifebelt follows Maiko, a newly-wed house wife, who discovers her husband Nakayama is cheating on her shortly after the couple moves to Nakayama's company's HD in Tokyo. In sadness, Maiko forms a bond with her neighbor/colleague to her husband Mr Futaba, whose wife is also cheating on him. The two neighbors, through their tiny everyday interactions, find themselves in a zone where they are closer than friends, but not quite lovers. Lifebelt asks: what keeps/drives people together? The show is charming, stylish, fun and enlightening with beautiful scenes and solid performances.

We discuss the week following the end of Futaba's palace deadline, as the gang wants to help Futaba be better at interaction with people. These lessons take up the bulk of the week, with each day offering a new scenario for the Phantom Thieves to discover Futaba... is pretty good at being a person. We also discuss what we do in all our free evenings, including Confidant rank ups, some hangouts with the Velvet Room twins, and much more. Plus, we offer another Persona Pseudonym and Pop Quiz question, and more. Be sure to write in with your thoughts to dornology@gmail.com, or tweet at Jonathon (@jmdornbush) and Tom (@tomrmarks).

Join Tom and Jonathon for episode 20 as we wrap up the Futaba's palace section of the game for the week of August 16 - 22. We discuss how we spent the rest of our free time in this arc of Persona 5 Royal, as we've both completed Futaba's Palace and are just waiting for the deadline to come. We dive into how we surprisingly spent some days doing exactly the same thing, Tom's latest Mementos trip, and how Jonathon is still discovering so many new things about a game he loves. Then, we discuss the events of the palace deadline, including whether Futaba stops Medjed, the resulting fallout, and what teases are introduced for our next chapter. Then we discuss the full Yoshida Confidant storyline, including our feelings on his story and how it connects to Joker, our criteria for ranking Confidants going forward, and more! Welcome to Take Your Time, a podcast by Jonathon Dornbush and Tom Marks where the duo will be playing Persona 5 Royal in real time, playing along with P5R's in-game calendar. Join Tom, Jonathon, and special guest Barrett Courtney from Kinda Funny for episode 19 as we continue the fourth palace's section of the game for the week of August 9 - 15. We discuss the full extent of Futaba's Palace, including the layout, Will Seeds, boss battle, and more. Barrett joins us to discuss his love of the palace, why we think it works so well on a gameplay level, and how strongly it ties into Futaba's storyline. We explore the new revelations about the cognitive world, Futaba's relationship with her palace, and the truth of her backstory as we explore the palace Pyramid floor by floor. Breaking down what does and doesn't work mechanically, we also discuss how we feel this palace works on a difficulty level, whether its puzzles are better than past palaces, and how it feels to be rattled. Of course, we don't ignore the rest of the week, so we discuss what we did in our free time throughout this span of the game, and Barrett even clues us in on how his week was back when he last played P5R. Plus, we offer another Persona Pseudonym and Pop Quiz question, and more. Be sure to write in with your thoughts to dornology@gmail.com, or tweet at Jonathon (@jmdornbush) and Tom (@tomrmarks).

Join Tom and Jonathon for episode 18 as we continue the free time portion of the fourth palace. Tom and Jonathon are holding palace discussion for next week, but still have plenty to discuss as we offer some updates on what we do in our free time for the week of August 2 - 8. We discuss how we spent our free time during this continued Futaba's palace era, including some of our Confidant rank changes, differences in events that were offered based on our current spots in the story, and more. We look at some of the oddities of school-set scenes happening during summer break, what that breaks limits, and a look at Tom's nail biter of a quest to max out a Confidant chain with Ryuji. And speaking of, we spend the end of the episode discussing the full Ryuji confidant line, including our favorite story beats and how it ties into the larger story. (If you'd like to skip the Ryuji section once we begin spoiler warnings, skip to 01:05:48.) Plus, we address some listener and viewer questions, offer another Persona Pseudonym and Pop Quiz question, and more. Join Tom and Jonathon for episode 16 as we head learn more about our 4th palace! Tom and Jonathon discuss a surprising and revelatory week for the Phantom Thieves, as the plot with Medjed increases, and a mysterious figure named Alibaba invades our texts. With little free time this week, we spent the majority of our focus on Sojiro and his personal life, the new character named Futaba, what Medjed is demanding now, and the Fox medical drama House. It'll make sense in content, somewhat. But, hey, we've got our fourth palace quest officially, with the revelation of our next palace's setting, its leader, and much more, alongside some more discussions with Akechi. Amanchu! The Con Artists: Rolling Review #5 Summer 2016 The intro music is: "Million Clouds" by Maaya Sakamoto The outro music is: "Futari Shoujo" by Tekopikari (Ai Kayano & Eri Suzuki) Amanchu! is WHOOP about 2 girls who end up in the WHOOP WHOOP diving club together. Futaba is super shy and diving helps her WHOOP WHOOP come out of her shell. Hikari WHOOP RADIATES LIKE THE SUN. The twins WHOOP WHOOP are a joke that served only to make all of us very angry (female violence towards men is not funny Japan..), and the teacher should be WHOOOOOP arrested for letting it happen. At least it looked pretty. Did you find that "WHOOP"ing to be annoying?! So did we! I'm going to turn into a Muppet now! Want to know what Amanchu! is really about? Read our Rolling Reviews on Amanchu! here: https://theconartistsblog.com/rolling-review/ Disclaimer: The Con Artists own nothing but our opinions and this podcast.
