A gap in the tertiary system is being filled once more. In 2023, Te Pukenga shut down MAINZ Music School, leaving a void for those wishing to study music. Alumni of the former school include award-winning musicians, artists, and producers like Joel Little, Gin Wigmore, and Tory Kingi. But as one door closes, another opens, and former staff are getting a new school up and running under the name ‘Let's Go Music'. Co-Director Mark Baynes told Mike Hosking the programme is designed for career musicians – the certification being a first step into the industry. Tragically, this interview was recorded 2 weeks to the day before Neal died. Neal Casal was the lead guitarist for the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, released 12 solo LPs, played as a sideman for Robert Randolph, Todd Snider, James Iha, Gin Wigmore, Duncan Sheik, Tift Wegmore, Ryan Adams… and was also a member of Hard Working Americans (Todd Snider & Dave Schools) and Circles Around The Sun Deep convo here about the sacrifices Neal made to get his solo career going, how & why he cranked out 6 records in 5 years… his attraction to the blues, surfing, photography, his favorite guitar effects, connecting people, best decision he ever made (definitely NOT what you might think), and of course, NYC pizza: Subscribe https://www.everyonelovesguitar.com/subscribe/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/EveryoneLovesGuitar/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/everyonelovesguitar/

Getting close to Hallows Eve here on the Howe Sound System. This week's show has some Halloween overtones with Kid Koala opening the show scratchin' up some familiar Charlie Brown. We get into the Good Time Girl groove with Cobra Killer, then Gin Wigmore carries us into Psychobilly territory with Kill Of The Night. Italy's Tying TIffany wrecks it up with Drownin' and the Bondage Fairies bring the 8 bit distorted goodness on their track Morphine. Crystal Castles take us a little closer to where we usually tread on the HSS with Untrust Us, and we hear a unique one from The Uncluded, which is a collaboration between Aesop Rock and Kimya Dawson. The Butthole Surfers really bring the weirdness with Kuntz and the subs start to get a workout as the show heads dubsteppy. Loefah brings a remix of the Vex'd track 3rd Choice and we get a newish mix of Dark Steering from Squarepusher. Distance brings Menace and the show ends with one from Reso titled Check 1,2 that is so new it's still warm.
