A podcast dedicated to highlighting Tame Impala music & lyrics that resonate with us and why. In this episode, I am joined by Jessamyn Violet of the band Movie Club, who was serendipitously lucky enough to attend Tame Impala's first US tour back in the era of Innerspeaker - her favorite album. A fellow female drummer, we delve into Tame Impala drum sounds and style, and realize together the nuanced beauty of the lyrics of "Yes I'm Changing."
It's a special episode! I got together with some friends and listened to Innerspeaker by Tame Impala. Join me in welcoming Jordan, Patrick and Taylor to show, we're looking forward to doing more of these!

Tame Impala (aka Kevin Parker) is one of the greatest musical minds of the 21st century. From Perth Australia, to stages all over the world, the Tame Impala sound has entranced people from all walks of life. Through their 4 (so far) studio albums Innerspeaker, Lonerism, Currents and The Slow Rush, the sound of Tame Impala continues to grow and evolve.

It might feel like a lifetime ago, but it was just over a year ago in February of 2020 when we got new albums from both Tame Impala and Caribou. For Kevin Parker, The Slow Rush was his fourth full-length record following an extended break after Currents. Caribou fans had a slightly longer wait for Dan Snaith's tenth record, Suddenly. Now both artists have rereleases in 2021. Kevin Parker and company recently celebrated ten years since their debut record, Innerspeaker. There's a new behind-the-scenes short film chronicling the 2010 recording process, a box set, and an upcoming livestream performance later this month, April 21 (more info on tickets here), of the full album from the Wave House. Dan Snaith has also been in the news recently, releasing Suddenly Remixes, featuring reworked tracks by Toro y Moi, Four Tet, Floating Points, and others. This conversation, which originally aired in October of 2020, never has a dull moment and features the pair chatting about how and when they first met, having confidence as an artist, and their "de facto lockdown albums." In this episode, we'll be taking a look at Lonerism, the second studio album by Tame Impala. Tame Impala is the musical mouthpiece of Australian multi instrumentalist and experimental virtuoso Kevin Parker. After the success of his first album ‘Innerspeaker', Parker immediately began writing and recording ‘Lonerism' - a 12 track psychedelic journey into his introverted mind - where you get to see the world through his eyes, and from his perspective. Arguably a favourite among his ever-growing fan base, Lonerism was released in 2012 to global acclaim, and still stands up as one of the best albums of the decade. I have a lot of love for this album, and I'm looking forward to breaking it down with the guys. This is Lonerism, by Tame Impala - Carl Other topics include: a keyboard on the ceiling, a high-five to the back-of-the-neck, a little hypnosis, and our first ever legitimate answerphone message! All that and more, on this episode of Between The Tracks.

11 faixas 31:01
Series regular Janell is back on the program to reminisce about a band that's been important to both her and Ryan for lo these many years as they talk through Tame Impala's 2010 psychedelic masterpiece Innerspeaker. Turns out that Ryan has one dumb trick for an Aussie accent (spoiler: it's not effective), and that foreshadows a white-knuckle round of Alter Ego. Recorded April 21, 2020.
It's hard to remember it now, but back in 2010 Tame Impala were getting excited about the prospect of their first headline American tour. The Perth band had just released their debut album Innerspeaker. We all thought it was pretty good, and it would go on to win the J Award for Australian Album of the Year. This month, September 2020, we've been celebrating great Australian debuts on Double J Radio, so I thought it'd be fun to jump in the time machine, and dig into the Take 5 archives to share my conversation with Tame Impala the year they released their first album. Kev Parker and Jay Watson joined me to share their “songs that would surprise”, and it's such a joy to hear them at this moment, quite unaware of how big they would become. They've stayed true to that down to earth spirit, to this day. But I bet they never imagined they'd be headlining Coachella. One of the other things I love about this Take 5 is that it sounds like a blueprint. A debut album can be such a forecast for an incredible career to follow; it's a statement to the world on who you are, and where you're headed. This collection of songs does the same; we didn't know it yet, but Kev has a huge love of pop music… he would stray more and more towards that in the Tame albums that followed. And, perhaps most beautifully, he picks a song from a producer and musician who would go on to become on of his greatest collaborators and friends. Justin Timberlake - "Rock Your Body" The Presidents of The United States of America - "Peaches" S.O.A.P. - "This Is How We Party" Boris - "Heavy Friends" Mark Ronson and the Business Intl. - "Bang Bang Bang" (feat. Q-Tip and MNDR)

Chino nos trae este disco fundamental de la decada del 2010.

Kjell and Sam discuss the singles and b-sides between the Tame Impala EP and the release of Innerspeaker. They also introduce a new "greatest hits" segment.
Starting off their career as psychedelic explorers, the Australian band Tame Impala spent a decade subverting expectations and mutating their sound in fascinating ways, as well as being an inspiration to musicians as diverse as Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Lady Gaga. Guided by the musical prowess of Kevin Parker, the band's 2010 debut album Innerspeaker was a huge, loud guitar rock album dipped in swirling psychedelic colors. The follow-up Lonerism (2012) dialed down the guitars in favor of a more expansive style, after which Parker swerved into a poppier sound that brought in hip-hop (2015's Currents) and disco influences (2020's The Slow Rush) while upping the sugar content of the hooks. It proved to be a winning approach, and by decade's end, Parker was collaborating with some of the biggest artists on Earth (Kanye, Travis Scott) while the band was selling out stadiums and tons of records. After a long rollout that saw the band debuting new songs on Saturday Night Live in May of 2019, and a steady trickle of singles seeing the light of day as Parker continued to tinker with the album, The Slow Rush was released in early 2020, just before the band launched a worldwide tour.
Tom and Neil dive into the discography of everyone's second to third favorite Australian band and everyone's first to second favorite Kevin Parker project, Tame Impala! From the highs of Innerspeaker, Lonerism, Currents, and the Slow Rush to the lows of the period before they were making music, we tackle it all and answer the question on everyone's mind - are Impalas native to Australia? The answer may surprise you! It's no.
Deset let od debutové nahrávky Innerspeaker přichází Australan Kevin Parker, stojící za projektem Tame Impala, se čtvrtým albem The Slow Rush. Od poslední Currents uplynulo dlouhých pět let. Parker si zatím dal od vlastní tvorby pauzu, zpracovával překvapivě nastalou slávu a dařilo se mu spolupracovat, s kým se dalo. A je to znát i na The Slow Rush.

From bedroom side project to headlining Coachella, Kevin Parker's blend of psychedelic, space rock, and jangly Brit pop has made Tame Impala one of the most unique and highly sought-after acts to emerge out of rock music in the last decade. With Lennon-esque vocals and phase-fuzz heavy melodies, Tame Impala is arguably the most notable acts of the psychedelic resurgence of the early 10s, and as his music continues to evolve and crossover into the mainstream, Tame Impala is always taking the genre to new places and new audiences. In this episode, we explore the origins of Kevin Parker in the Perth music scene and we listen to the music of his debut album Innerspeaker.

According to the Collins Dictionary website (because I don't have a physical dictionary handy), “evolution” is “a process of gradual development in a particular situation or thing over a period of time.” There could not be a more apt title for the name of the debut album by Newcastle band, Tamam Shud. For episode 115 of Love That Album podcast, I am once again joined by music journalist and author of The Encyclopedia of Australian Rock and Pop, Ian Mcfarlane, to talk about psychedelic prog-rock (and some suggest surf) band Tamam Shud and their debut album Evolution. They'd formed several years prior as The 4 Strangers, then changing their name to The Sunsets. The general consensus was that they made surf music, though singer songwriter Lindsay Bjerre has never placed much stock in that description. What is indisputable is that they provided the soundtrack for surf movies directed by Paul Witzig. When the late sixties counter-culture turned its musical ears to the sounds from the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Cream, and Jefferson Airplane, The Sunsets changed their sound and name and evolved to Tamam Shud (and they continued to evolve beyond that point as well). They were a highly charged and exciting band. Ian and I discuss the history of the band and it's place in Australian rock history, as well as the album itself. Evolution was recorded in only a couple of hours It took almost as long to record the podcast! We also talk about how the band changed its sound drastically just a couple of years later with its contributions to the soundtrack to Morning Of The Earth, regarded as one of the greatest surf films of the era. But wait....there's more. Ian has been a regular writer of liner notes for the wonderful Australian archival label, Aztec Records. We spend time discussing some recent re-releases on the label, as well as a hugely important box set of sixties pop material from the independent label Go! Records. Gotta tell you folks, I considered myself schooled after this episode in Australian music history. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I did recording it. If you've been following the Facebook page, notes or are regularly subscribed to the podcast, you'd know that Eric Reanimator is taking a break from the show, so my great friend David Blom has elected to do a couple of Album I Love segments. This show around, he talks about the debut EP from Kevin Parker (aka Tame Impala). I always thought Innerspeaker was debut album, but there was an EP that came before that, and Dave brings his thoughts about why you need to have it in your life. Thanks for the segment, Dave. You can download the show from iTunes (search for “Love That Album podcast”) or from the website at http://lovethatalbum.blogspot.com. You can (and should) order a copy of Ian's brilliant encyclopedia from https://www.thirdstonepress.com.au/ The site also features an archive of Ian's liner notes for a number of the Aztec releases....all hugely informative. My thanks for his support of the podcast. You can send me feedback at rrrkitchen@yahoo.com.au (written or mp3 voicemail) or join the Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/groups/lovethatalbum. If you’d consider writing an iTunes review or recommending the show to a friend, we’d be immensely grateful. If you enjoy what you hear, please tell a friend or ten to tune in.
Way back in 2010, a little band from Perth had just released their debut album Innerspeaker. It would get attention worldwide, and win the J Award for Australian Album of the Year. Two months shy of that gong, Kevin Parker and Jay Watson came in to Take 5 with Zan and share five songs that we might be surprised to find in their record collection. Kev's love of pop music is well known today, but at the time these choices got quite the reaction when they came in to co-host, and giggle, with Zan. Justin Timberlake - "Rock Your Body" The Presidents of The United States of America - "Peaches" S.O.A.P. - "This Is How We Party" Boris - "Heavy Friends" Mark Ronson and the Business Intl. - "Bang Bang Bang" (feat. FeedBack w. Wes Nyle. EP32. Tame Impala. 11.07.12I’m back and I hope you’re all doing well. Thanks for sticking with me during my move and the podcast dry spell. The truth is I’ve hardly had any time to think about recording with the move. I have, however had several ideas floating around in my head. For instance I am thinking of changing the name of this podcast to Digital Spray Paint. And I am going to make the format a bit different, offering more variety, in the ways of interviews with bands, alongside phone conversations with my radio alumni, and comedian friends. With that said I am going to give you one more traditional FeedBack podcast the way it’s been since I started this little project. Also listen for a series I’m calling the 12 tracks of Christmas, that will IV drip songs throughout the month of December for your listening pleasure, as we get ready to start the new podcast format that will beguine soon after the new year. Thanks for listening now here’s the Podcast. A phone conversation with my friend recently had me thinking about how much great music comes out of Australia. With the obvious bands out of the way I posted a FaceBook comment and received several comments from you guys as well, listing a ton of iconic rock, that hails from the land down under. I’m not 100% certain of what it is they do differently there but I can say that Australia has yet to produce a rock band that disappoints me. Tame Impala is a band that popped up about two years ago with their debut record Innerspeaker, and shares an ambiance similar to America’s Interpol. The band was originally known as The Dee Dee Drums and is a c ollaboration of other indie groups fronted by Kevin Parker who also plays drums in Pond: A band that compares to other Australian notables like the Vines and Wolfmother. It’s also comprised of Tame Impala members Jay Watson and Nick Allbrook. Kevin’s drumming would show up again in his work with Mink Mussel Creek a group that was comprised of his friends in the Australian underground music scene as well as members of Tame Impala. The group started recording in 2008 but because of setbacks weren’t able to officially release their record, however in this technology age there is a way to find anything online, and the recordings were eventually released. Which is good for me because otherwise I wouldn’t have a song segue right here. There’s more to Parker than rhythm, he also shows intuition towards recording and effect pedal usage, with nearly 20 pedals in his arsenal while on stage. In an interview with UnderCover TV he elaborated on his take towards using pedals in a new way that helps create a sound that newer musicians are wishing they thought of. This past October Tame Impala released their latest full length titled Lonerism an album that embodies the atmospherical, environmentally, synth blanketed rock that fans have grown to crave. A mention of this new album by one of my FaceBook followers has me leaving you with two tracks from these guys.
