Ep 92 Description: “Female pleasure is the most natural thing for us. Shame is something that we have learned as a society, but it's not the way we were designed.” —Dr. Jenny Martin Childbirth is often defined by pain, fear, and medical intervention— but what if there was another way? Ancient wisdom traditions understood birth as a sacred, transformative process that could activate deep states of pleasure and connection through a woman's primal brain-heart-womb axis. Pioneers are now rediscovering these possibilities, teaching that our very biology is wired for ecstasy during labor and delivery when supported by safety, trust, and an open mind. This episode explores the profound yet often overlooked capacities of the female body during birth and sexuality with our guest, Dr. Jenny Martin. Dr. Martin is a pioneer in the field of orgasmic birthing and the psychedelic cervix model. Through her teachings, she helps women understand their innate capacity for spiritual experience and pleasure during childbirth by activating their genital-brain and heart-cervix connections. Listen in as Debra and Dr. Martin reveal how a woman's unique genital-brain connection allows her cervix and uterus to directly interface with the brain and central nervous system, simple techniques to help activate the "psychedelic cervix", how endogenous psychedelics in women's bodies can help create an effortless, nurturing passage for both mother and baby, societal myths around female sexuality and spirituality, and science-backed case for our innate human capacity for sacred pleasure and consciousness expansion. Most of us think our hearts are fine. Even the day before a heart attack, people think they're OK!? Unfortunately, many people wait until they are experiencing a cardiac event before they look beyond blood tests cholesterol and the blood pressure reading at a doctor visit. Tune in to learn what tests you can do to take preventative measures in making sure your heart is operating in optimal condition. BTW, this is as much for athletes as it is for the reluctant exerciser! This week Jenn is joined by Chief Nursing Officer of Recovery Plus Health, Jenny Martin. Jenny breaks down many different aspects of heart health in this episode, from the difference between a heart attack and cardiac arrest, to VO2 max, to cardiorespiratory fitness, and more. She also discusses how a CPET test can provide you with a good outlook on your heart health, as well as give you information on how to best manage your fitness and exercise routine for your individual needs. Preventative care is a must when it comes to heart health, and this is one tool to help make your heart health a priority. Tune in to learn more about the CPET test, what it tells you, and where things can be missed when only doing lab tests. The Salad With a Side of Fries podcast is hosted by Jenn Trepeck, discussing wellness and weight loss for real life, clearing up the myths, misinformation, bad science & marketing surrounding our nutrition knowledge and the food industry. Let's dive into wellness and weight loss for real life, including drinking, eating out, and skipping the grocery store. IN THIS EPISODE: ● [6:03] How did Jenny end up in nursing and then shift into cardiopulmonary chronic care? ● [12:33] What is the difference between a cardiovascular event vs. a cholesterol challenge or blockage? ● [15:55] Many people look at athletes as the epitome of health, but then they have a cardiac event - what are we missing? ● [20:23] What is Cardiopulmonary and Cardiopulmonary Fitness?● [23:18] What is the difference between optimal and suboptimal? And why do we want to use these words? ● [26:56] What is Respiratory Exchange Ratio (RER) and why is it important?● [28:24] What is Peak VO2 or VO2 max?● [33:21] What is Heart Rate at Peak and at Anaerobic Threshold? ● [36:02] What is Cardiorespiratory Fitness (CRF)?● [37:58] What is an Inducible Threshold? ● [41:51] What is the CPET test?● [48:05] How do people take the information about their Zones into their personal fitness routine?KEY TAKEAWAYS: ● [29:46] Peak VO2 can be increased with the proper training, proper nutrition, proper hydration, and proper supplementation as your exercise or nutrition is optimized. Each time you can get the number up by one ml, you reduce your chance for all-cause mortality by 10%. ● [33:49] Optimal performance for your heart rate is to keep your peak heart rate in the 80-85% range, which shows that you're not heart rate dependent. We don't want to be heart rate dependent, instead you want to be stroke volume dependent, meaning the strongest part of your heart is pumping oxygen-rich blood to the rest of your body.● [36:59] Knowing your numbers gives you control over your situation. The best way to find out what you can do safely is to get the data, to know your numbers and know where you are so that you know where you want to go. If you don't know where you're starting, how do you know where you are headed? How do you know what your heart health goals should be? ● [46:20] Not everyone has the same heart rate zones, so the CPET test can help you uncover what your heart rate zones are so you can exercise and function at your optimal health number.QUOTES: [13:02] “You are not healthy the day before a heart attack.” - Jenn Trepeck“Hearts come in electrical and plumbing. When one of those goes wrong, that's when bad things happen. When we look at cholesterol levels, we're only looking at the plumbing." – Jenny Martin[14:47] “The original stress test, treadmill stress testing you get done in the cardiologist office, what they don't do is they don't do a ventilation, perfusion ratio. They don't look at the gasses, they don't look at the lung aspect of things, and so they actually don't identify non-obstructive heart disease at all. You could have a heart cath, you could go in and have a wire run up through your arteries, and they can say ‘there's nothing obstructive here, so everything is fine', and you can have a heart attack the next day.” - Jenny Martin[21:29] “Sleep apnea has a very high rate of coexistence and causation for heart failure, and that's very untalked about and it has everything to do with if we can't get oxygen the heart just stops.” - Jenny Martin"Optimal means that things are working at a level in which it supports other systems. So, optimizing health we want to have all the systems, heart and lungs, working with each other to support every other system in our body.” - Jenny Martin[47:11] “I know my zone 2, you know your zone 2, and they're not the same, but if we were to use the calculations that are just kind of out there for everybody to try to use, they would be very close, because it's not taking into consideration anything else. Our health history, our cardiac function, our pulmonary function, what our body needs, what our bodies need to be able to perform at the workload that we're asking them to, that's going to differ per person as well.” - Jenny MartinRESOURCES:Become A Member of Salad with a Side of FriesJenn's Free Menu PlanA Salad With a Side of FriesA Salad With A Side Of Fries MerchA Salad With a Side of Fries InstagramGUEST RESOURCESRecoveryPlus.Health WebsiteEmail: info@recoveryplus.health Phone number: 800-242-6221Jenny Marin's LinkedInJenny Martin's InstagramRecoveryPlus.Health's TikTokRecoveryPlus.Health's InstagramGUEST BIO:Jenny Martin MSN, APRN, FNP-C and Chief Nursing Officer of Recovery Plus Health has years of nursing experience specializing in cardiology, pulmonary, and chronic care management. Mason is joined by Dr Jenny Martin for the second instalment of their conversation exploring the connection between sexuality, altered states of consciousness, and endogenous psychedelics. In today's segment Dr Jenny takes us further into the cervix and its role in female pleasure, highlighting that women, by design, are innately wired to experience mystical states of consciousness through sex. Dr Jenny take us on a wild ride into subtle realms that the body exists in and is a part of, traversing both the science and traditional lore on topics such as quantum and torsion physics, dark matter, piezoelectricity, Kirilian photography, the body's electromagnetic field, HeartMath and more. Exploring how the intelligence behind all of these theories and schools of thought can aid us in understanding our inherent capabilities and how to utilise and potentiate the capacity of our human form, both earthy and otherwise. Mason shares his knowledge in the area of Taoism, translating many of these concepts through the expression of Five Element Theory and the Taoist organ wheel, marrying the East vs West approach in a relatable and digestible way. Dr Jenny explains polyvagal theory through the lens of female pleasure, outlining the various elements of perception and stored trauma that can inhibit an individual's ability to experience bodily welfare regardless of the environmental safety that they may physically find themselves in. Furthering our understanding of the mind/body connection and the subtle energetics that are always at play, when engaging in sex, partnered or otherwise. There is just so much terrain covered in this episode, with many threads to explore and tunnels to delve deep into, we are continuously invited to consider what and who we are beyond the confines of the literature we are strategically fed or allowed exposure to, and the societal structures and norms continually imposed on us. Take a moment, take a breath and let your psyche spiral around the mysteries and magic of your innate metaphysical nature. Dr Jenny & Mason discuss: - Healing trauma through sexual practice. - Consciousness, physics and the multidimensional nature of the human body. - HeartMath and reaching altered states through sex. - Polyvagal theory, fear and female pleasure. - Social media and the colloqualisation of trauma. - Relationship as a gateway to spiritual development. - The intersection between sex, pleasure, and reproduction from a biological and spiritual perspective. Today on the show Mason is joined by Dr Jenny Martin to share a thought-provoking conversation around sexuality, the body's ability to manufacture DMT and other endogenous psychedelics, religion's influence on our relationship to sex, pleasure and wellbeing, and so much more! With a doctorate in psychology and a vast field of knowledge in the areas of female sexuality, consciousness, neuroscience, neuroplasticity, mind-body medicine, and the heart/brain connection, Dr. Jenny knows, from the inside out, just how powerful our body's apparatus can be, especially when we know how to use it! A passionate advocate for feminine pleasure and achieving flow states, joy and total transformation through the art (and science) of sacred sexuality, Dr. Jenny takes us on a journey through history, sharing how prevalent these practices have been for millennia within Christianity and many ancient cultures and schools of thought around the globe. Highlighting that the energetics of the masculine/feminine principle are intrinsic to life and our nature as human beings. Jenny speaks to the somewhat controversial concept that the original practice of Christianity was explored through the lens of sexuality, allowing us to entertain the notion that perhaps sexiness is next to godliness after all! In all seriousness though, what may be useful to consider in this particular context is the deeper meaning of the colloquial phrase, “cleanliness is next to godliness” If we delve a little deeper into the meaning of this concept what we're left with is the translation that keeping one's expression of life "clean" or more accurately, ordered, affords us a sense of ease through the application of balanced or measured action. We could also explore what cleanliness or order means in relationship to sexuality and through the lens of the masculine/feminine principle, which is what, at a foundational level, is being spoken of when exploring the potential to use sexual practice as a means to illicit the production of neurotransmitters and endogenous psychedelic substrates such as DMT and oxytocin. Compounds that enable us to cultivate harmony and health within the body and mind. How do we keep our expression of sexual energy “tidy” not in the inhibited or frigid sense but functionally, applied in the same manner as the master, with reverence and respect for its power and potential capability? Through the Taoist lens, sexual energy is synonymous with life force energy, so we can confidently hypothesis that the more we can optimise and utilise this currency of energy through application and practice, the more life or aliveness we can experience, hold and entertain. Dr Jenny and Mason only touched the tip of the iceberg in this explorative chat, join us for part two, coming soon. Dr Jenny & Mason discuss: - Endogenous psychedelics. - Religion's influence on our relationship to sex, pleasure and well-being. - Sex as a way of invoking the divine. - The goddess archetype and the importance of integration when exploring sacred sexuality. - Near-death experiences and endogenous DMT. Female orgasm & the vagus nerve. As a fairly new yoga teacher, Jenny has found a new home in the yoga community of Kansas City. Jenny admittedly went to college to get her Mrs. degree so she could have what she thought were the trappings of success. As a swimmer, she also struggled with anorexia. She eventually went abroad and traveled in Italy. After graduation, she went to work on a cruise ship. She wanted the affirmation of the accolades that you get from portraying a successful life on social media. Eventually, she went to South Korea to teach English, and it was the hardest year of her life. She calls it “the year she didn’t die”. It took her a long time to recover from that year abroad. Writing Jenny wrote a book of poetry called, Emotionally Bankrupt, It was a release from a really bad relationship. Jenny finally buckled down this year and she wrote the book that she always knew was in her! It’s coming soon, so follow her for more details on Jenny Eats the World. Yoga Life Jenny rallied her community around her vision to begin having yoga events. Jenny knows that she’s lost friends over her quest for having bigger events and putting her work out into the world. When friends accuse her of just wanting fame, Jenny says, “yes, I do” want people to know who I am because what I have to say is important and it can save lives. So why wouldn’t she want as many people as possible to know about it. The Message She wants people to understand that true success starts internally and you are acceptable at any shape and form. Your health comes first and self-love has to be at the forefront of your own health. Jenny wants to be blunt and open to everyone, and she’s always battling her throat chakra, she’s constantly saying the exact opposite of what she means. Jenny has had her own journey with sugar, eating disorders and self-loathing. So she’s struggling to find her own boundaries so that she can live a healthy life. She wants everyone to realize that they are so much more than the reflection in the mirror. There’s a lot of inner work that has to be done for you to accept the person you see in the mirror, and you can do that work with a pen and paper and a free meditation on Spotify.

Dr Jenny Martin (pictured) teaches effective communication skills to science students at both undergraduate and Masters levels at the University of Melbourne, subsequently she has a unique understanding of why it is so difficult to help others understand the science of the climate crisis. She has been to Antarctica with Homeward Bound; she has seen the climate crisis free from the filters of the modern world; she has wept at what she saw and returned from that all-female expedition, a changed woman. What do we do about the climate crisis? We engage, we learn, we tell stories and we act!

You may have heard her on 90.1 KKFI or seen her around Kansas City doing book readings to promote her new poetry book, Emotionally Bankrupt…a book in response to resignation, addiction, heartbreak and growth shared in the light of poetry.
