ACOMPANHA O PROJETO

The joy of missing out, or JOMO, is the hot, sexy, good feeling, "I'm a badass" antithesis to fear of missing out (FOMO). It's about practicing self-trust, self-confidence, intuition, and following the beat of your own drum. It's knowing that you can't miss out on something you are meant to experience. It's taking pleasure in your own path, and relishing the small moments that life has to offer you each and every day. JOMO is a vibe of following your own bliss. And today we're going to get into how to make the shift to choosing joy and love over fear. In this episode, Sinclair shares about: FOMO, fear of missing out is essentially a lack of belonging JOMO, the joy of missing out, when you trust yourself and lean into your inner power JOMO comes up as a choice of a different mindset on the medicine path Beginning to question your belief system, your values, and your mindset as you expand on the medicine path Example of me not attending the MAPS Psychedelics and Science Conference Getting a gut feeling, feeling resistance in the body is a clue to something not being for you You can feel JOMO in yourself, AND be excited for other people to have their experiences JOMO is a choice and often is accompanied by some FOMO as well, especially as you are learning to choose joy over fear The importance of science as the language of trying to understand God Choosing your path, leaning into the joy of missing out, and putting both feet into the spiritual path, the medicine path, the healing path Trusting your own vibe, your medicine, and your heart Starting to check in with your body, tuning into the subtle language of your body and nervous system Most of our behaviors, beliefs, and what drives our actions are unconscious Paying attention to how it feels in your body and heart Learning how to tune into glimmers, the opposite of triggers Glimmers are little signals of joy that come in the hundreds every day You can choose how you feel and where you put your attention The monkey mind, the inner voice, the Default Mode Network and when it is activated Meditation as a way you can start to become the master of your monkey mind Using psychedelics to turn off the inner critic, to choose love over fear Changing things a little bit at a time, making small changes and being consistent Choosing to trust yourself over whatever is going on outside of you Taking joy and savoring little moments, doing alchemy all day every day Read the full show notes here: https://www.sinclairfleetwood.com/the-joy-of-missing-out/ WORK WITH SINCLAIR: https://sinclairfeetwood.com/work-with-me Listen to the full podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or your favorite podcast platform. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/psychedelicintegrationpod/message

Karey Spransy is a resilience coach who knows what it's like to feel overwhelmed and pushed down by life. Her experiences as a single teen mother, losing two loved ones to suicide, going through two divorces, and battling stage IV-4 colon cancer taught her how to use setbacks as springboards and failures as fuel. For a self-professed extrovert and FOMO junkie, the joy of missing out felt like giving up, so she changed JOMO to the Joy Of Moving On. Through her one-on-one coaching and group programs, she teaches others how to find their JOMO and just Do The Damn Thing. She is unapologetically real and holds nothing back in her storytelling. She uses grace and humor to make you laugh, cry, and cry-laugh about the absurdities of life and feel inspired to find your JOMO. I've really learned to embrace the "joy of missing out" the last few years. JOMO isn't about being isolated and not being a part of social events but instead feeling 100% in control how we choose to spend our time and who we choose to spend it with. It's easy to forget that we only are in charge of our time. Things should only be on our social calendar if we want it to be. I also dive into transforming FOMO into a positive thought & feeling. We hear this term a lot when we discuss excessive screen time: FOMO. FOMO means the Fear of Missing Out. That feeling when you think there is a lot going on, and you have no idea what. It's an uncomfortable feeling. It's a feeling we want to get solved asap. Social media is a place where a lot is going on. Upcoming events? Social media will tell you. Your friend had a fantastic day because she bought a new iPhone? Social media will tell you. An unfortunate event happened in the world? Social media will tell you. Corona updates? Social media will tell you. There is a lot of information published and consumed on social media. A large portion of your daily visual input comes from social media. No wonder people feel weird and uncomfortable when that daily visual input is missing. The thing is: we don't want to feel left out. We want to matter. We want to belong. “And belonging is not possible when you ignore social media” That's what FOMO makes you think. I'm here to reassure you: it's not true. You don't need to participate (constantly) on social media. A bigger problem is: when you do kill that FOMO, there is another FOMO that will hit you sooner or later. That FOMO is 10x before powerful. That's a FOMO you should pay attention to.

In episode 63, Christina Crook joins us for a conversation about how to savor the experience of disconnecting from technology. Christina is the founder of JOMO: The Joy of Missing Out, where she helps people find balance in the digital world and connect with others again – outside of technology. In this episode, Christina starts by telling us the story of her digital detox, where she disconnected completely from technology for 31 days. This is where her story begins. Since then, she’s learned that restricting technology use actually enhances her experience of freedom in her life, helps relationships bloom, and ultimately brings more joy into life itself. Missing out? Who wants to miss out? Perhaps the better questions to ask are: What are you missing out on by being fully distracted, seduced by the ding and siren song bell of an incoming text, tweet, IM or post? What does it mean to live in the present, the here and now without incessantly scrolling through the carefully curated lives of your infinite followers — many of whom you must admit we have no personal relationship with? We grapple with this addictive digital discourse that we all face, contemplate the example we’re providing for those around us, the need for guardrails, and how the concept of boredom and white space is virtually nonexistent — just look around at everyone with their heads buried in their devices. FOMO is a byproduct of the digital times we live in. But if we’re intentional, we can get back the precious time we hand over to social apps and push notifications that keep us from true social engagement and/or downtime to fuel our curiosity and creativity. If FOMO is a real thing for you (we can attest that we’re guilty of succumbing to it from time to time), then it’s time to change this narrative and embrace JOMO — and spread that kind of joy instead of auto-feeding the fear.
JOMO is The antithesis to FOMO! I like to think about JOMO as being the ultimate act of self care. How many of you say yes to commitments, social gatherings and activities that at your core you really do not want to? Why do so many of us overcommit ourselves to the point of exhaustion to where we have nothing left to give to ourselves? If you need more JOMO in your life...this episode is for you! On tonight's episode of Saturday Night Liv, I have my friend Emily joining me to talk about FOMO vs. JOMO (the fear of missing out vs. the joy of missing out). Are you the kind of person who feels depressed when you realize all of your friends are at a party without you, or do you feel joy inside knowing you are safe and warm all snuggled up in your bed all alone? Can you guess which one I am? Hope you enjoy!

Courtney’s Wild Idea: To battle her autoimmune diagnosis by embracing minimalism, being less busy, having more JOMO, and sharing her journey and tips with the world. If you have social media or are connected to our current tech-savvy world, there’s a good chance you’ve experienced some FOMO (fear of missing out). Or maybe you’ve experienced a sense of feeling overwhelmed, being too busy, or had this deep desire to simplify your life and be happy with where you are and what you have right now? If those questions spark something inside you, you will love today’s guest. After years in a fast-paced career as an ad executive, Courtney Carver was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), an autoimmune disease that forced her to rethink her whole life. Stress caused major flare-ups for her, so she went about eliminating as many sources of stress as she could. This led to a passion for minimalism, the creation of Project 333, and her book Soulful Simplicity, which has become a huge hit and really touched me when I read it. I don’t talk about it much, but in the last few years I’ve struggled with an autoimmune condition Vitiligo that only affects me aesthetically. It seems to also be exacerbated by stress, and I’ve tried a lot of remedies to combat it. You can hear me talk a bit more about it in this episode, and you’ll also hear about how Courtney’s book and her message of living with less can give you so much more. I loved talking to her about how to minimize your life, how to be less busy, her love of hiking, and how to embrace JOMO (the joy of missing out) instead of suffering from FOMO. Listen to this episode if: You’ve ever suffered from FOMO and you want more JOMO. You want to minimize your life. You dislike the busy-ness epidemic. You have an autoimmune disease. You feel stressed out by technology and social media. For full show notes, including guest links and books mentioned during the episode, visit: http://wildideasworthliving.com/87
We all know about FOMO, the FEAR of missing out, but have you heard about JOMO? The JOY of missing out? I just learned about it myself and talking all... The post #37: The Joy of Missing Out (JOMO) appeared first on Get Lively Now.
Christina Crook of #JOMO: The Joy of Missing Out, Finding Balance in a Wired World. Christina and Vicki talk about the intersection of technology, relationships and joy based on Christina’s experience of a 30-day technology fast, chronicled in her book. They explore the personal richness that emerges when we unplug from devices and connect to self and nature.
Most of us have heard of (and experienced) FOMO at some point. FOMO is the Fear of Missing Out and it strikes at the heart of modern life. We do things, attend things or buy things in order to avoid it, but there will always be things we miss out on. So why do we struggle with it so much? A couple of weeks ago a friend of the show (Mr Andy McLean - you may know him from such programs as Episode 124 of The Slow Home Podcast) sent Brooke and Ben a photo of a Leunig poem about JOMO, and they thought it would be a great topic to chat about on today’s poggie. JOMO is the Joy of Missing Out and the antidote to FOMO. It’s the utter delight that is saying no and doing less and choosing to not compete in the Busy Olympics. JOMO is a breath of fresh air when it feels like we’re choking on the idea that in order to be successful we need to be constantly in motion, striving and chasing the life that will make others envious. JOMO comes from a place of abundance (everything, right now, is enough) while FOMO comes from a place of scarcity (I’m scared that this will never be enough) and Brooke and Ben talk about the many different ways to apply it in life. JOMO can apply to our stuff, busy-ness, excess, social media, comparisons, keeping up with the Joneses… In all of those areas of life we can joyfully choose to see that we have enough, after which saying no becomes a relief. Head over to http://www.slowyourhome.com/180 for the full Leunig poem and the complete blog post.
