Guest: Lynne Twist What is fulfillment, and how do we find it and nurture it? Our guest, Lynne Twist, shares how having a purpose larger than yourself is what leads to deep fulfillment. Lynne says when we get “off our self-centered focus, we open to new possibilities” that reward us. We're in a time when many societal structures and ways of thinking and being are giving way to something new and as yet unformed, which can leave us feeling uncertain and without direction. In her new book, Finding Fulfillment in a Purpose Larger than Yourself, Lynne explains why it's so important at this time that we listen deeply to our hearts to find and unfold our larger purpose. Lynne is a recognized global visionary who has dedicated her life to serving the greater good. She has been an advisor to the Desmond Tutu Foundation and is the recipient of the prestigious “Woman of Distinction” award from the United Nations. She helped found the World Hunger Project and the Pachamama Alliance. She sees the time we're in now as a rebirthing process for humanity and a grand opportunity to find a new vision and purpose in serving a greater whole. Lynne and host Deborah Rozman talk about why vision and purpose are essential for personal fulfillment. Their conversation explores the difference between taking a “heart stand” that unifies people rather than a “mind stance” that separates them. Lynne explains how holding a fixed position on issues is what creates judgments and polarization, blocking our ability to see or consider other perspectives. Deborah and Lynne offer hopeful insights and next steps in finding and unfolding a larger purpose. Listening to and following the heart's inclusive guidance is what will ultimately bring people together, leading to solutions that serve the greater good—and that is love. This episode closes with a heart meditation to energize your purpose and vision. “But a life devoted to something larger than yourself is a life worth living. It's a life that is in recognition of life is given to us, it's given to us so that we can give it, we're blessed so that we can bless. We're born, I think, I can't prove this, but I've experienced it to make the contribution that's uniquely ours to make. And when you find that dharma, that discovers who you are, this is a match for what's wanted in the world. Oh my God. It's so thrilling that I wanted to do everything I could to make that available to people, because it's not only wonderful for you, the world needs us now. The world always did. But now the crises are so deep, so profound, so intense, so everywhere. So in every part of society, in every economic class, in every country, in every language, in every culture, that it's all hands on deck. And what a thrilling time to be alive when it's an all hands on deck moment.” so says my guest today, Lynne Twist. Lynne is a world-renowned visionary committed to alleviating poverty, ending world hunger, and supporting social justice and sustainability. Her 40-year career has taken her from working with Mother Teresa in Calcutta, to the refugee camps in Ethiopia and the threatened rainforests of the Amazon, to guiding the philanthropic efforts of some of the world's wealthiest families. Her breadth of experience led her to found the Soul of Money Institute, where she has worked with hundreds of thousands of people all over the world on topics such as fundraising with integrity, practicing conscious philanthropy, and creating a healthy relationship with money. Lynne first translated her compelling stories and life experiences into the bestselling book, The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life and joins us today to discuss her newest book, Living a Committed Life: Finding Freedom and Fulfillment in a Purpose Larger Than Yourself. In the book, and our conversation, Lynne reveals the guiding principles that have enabled her to live as a thought leader and activist, teaching us that a committed life is one worth living: That sometimes the commitment to it alone is enough to ensure it happens. The universe is telling us repeatedly that we are in this together, she says, and in a world that sometimes feels chaotic and devoid of meaning, it's incumbent that we draw together around what it means to be human. Lynne's early professional life led her to a chance encounter of meeting Buckminster Fuller, which changed the trajectory of her life. In this fantastic episode, Lynne shares her understanding of this time of the Divine Feminine and how living a life of commitment has shaped her life, her vision for women, and the future of humanity. Lynne is naming the energy coming through at this time: The Sophia Century and what this means for humanity at this time of evolutionary change. We are the ancestors of an age to come, and all of us that are here at this time have an extraordinary opportunity to make an impact- more than ever before in human history. How women can meet the dominance of the patriarchy, and how we can ignite a new age of feminine leadership. Why Men long to activate more of the feminine leadership model in their lives. How Jack Canfield, friend, and author of Chicken Soup for The Soul, encouraged Lynne to write her new book almost 20 years after the incredible success of The Soul of Money - which is still to this day is considered one of the most visionary and best-selling books. Living a committed life has inspired and informed Lynne's understanding of what makes ordinary people extraordinary. For people living at this time in history, humanity is being called forth to be the stewards and midwives of the world to come as our systems and structures fall apart - education, governance, health, education, and climate are all in crisis, and the "mess of the world" can be overwhelming. Lynne's antidote is to live what she is calling "a committed life" in service to a purpose larger than yourself. Lynn's book is designed to meet the moment of our time and engage people in stepping more fully into our own lives and to reveal our unique gift that is only ours to give. Why the universe loves commitment, and why the universe loves when we endeavor to do something larger than we feel capable of. What happens to us at a cellular level when we hear someone speak about their commitments? How meeting Buckminster Fuller and hearing his story changed the trajectory of Lynne's life and awakened her at the deepest level. How one ordinary individual can change the world. How most people think of commitment is backward. Rather than being a burden, commitment liberates us and gives us freedom and fulfillment in ways we never thought possible. Hear Lynne Talk about some of her darkest times - times she wanted to give up. Why it's so important that we stay in proximity to suffering, and don't turn away from those who are suffering. Lynne Twist is unstoppable in achieving her commitments, but she does so with humility, open-hearted grace, and ruthless enthusiasm. She is boundlessly generous—with her time, inspiration, and even her own home. She does not distinguish between those deserving of her love and attention and those who are not: all are welcome and appreciated for who they are in her land, and She reigns with love, laughter, and dance, and she loves to celebrate the good in the world. Lynne Twist is a global visionary and activist committed to creating an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling, and socially just future. She is the co-founder of the Pachamama Alliance, the founder of the Soul of Money Institute, and the author of the bestselling book The Soul of Money, Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life, and her forthcoming book Living a Committed Life - Finding Freedom and Fulfillment in a Purpose Larger Than Yourself. From working with Mother Teresa in Calcutta to the refugee camps in Ethiopia and the threatened rainforests of the Amazon, as well as guiding the philanthropy of some of the world's wealthiest families, her on-the-ground work has brought her a deep understanding of people's relationship with money and Her breadth of knowledge and experience has led her to profound insights about the social tapestry of the world and the historical landscape of the times we are living in - even coining the phrase for this century as "The Sophia Century" - the century of wisdom. Her compelling stories, life experiences, commitment, and dedication to making a difference astound and inspire me, and her presence and impact on my life have been immeasurable. In full transparency, I've had the honor of being on her digital marketing team for the past few years and have grown immensely in close proximity to her teachings, leadership, and stand for those she serves. In addition to her best-selling, award-winning book "The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life" (W.W. Norton, 2003), which has been translated into nine languages including Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Bulgarian and Portuguese. Lynne has contributed chapters to more than ten books, including: Women of Courage: Inspiring Stories from the Women Who Live Them, by Katherine Martin (New World Library, 1999) Nonprofit Management 101: A Complete and Practical Guide for Leaders and Professionals" by Darian Rodriguez Heyman (Jossey-Bass, 2011) Einstein's Business: Engaging Soul, Imagination, and Excellence in the Workplace" by Dawson Church, Ph.D. (Elite Books, 2007) Birth 2012 and Beyond: Humanity's Great Shift to the Age of Conscious Evolution by Barbara Marx Hubbard (Shift Books, 2012) Lynne has been an advisor to several organizations, including the Desmond Tutu Foundation, Network of Grateful Living, and The Nobel Women's Initiative — an initiative of seven living Nobel Women Peace Laureates who work together to end violence against women and girls. A sought-after speaker, Lynne travels the world giving keynote presentations and workshops for conferences, including the United Nations Beijing Women's Conference, Nobel Women's Conference on Sexual Violence, State of the World Forum Conference, Alliance for a New Humanity Conference with Deepak Chopra, Synthesis Dialogues with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Governor's Conference on California Women, among others. Mom, entrepreneur and passionately present - that is how I might describe Mandy Trapp in a nutshell.  I found myself relating to her on so many levels.  I found myself enjoying the story of who she was, who she now is and the effect that has had on her business. Her bio is impressive and she is one who knows the power of the pivot. **   “What I noticed very early into my career, was that whatever was happening in the body was obviously directly connected to what was happening in the mind.” - Mandy Trapp    “What we make of something, is a reflection of everything that is happening within our body and within our mind.” - Mandy Trapp    “It's easiest to create those happy, healthy states for ourselves and to be good and okay with change, when we are not actually being forced to do it.” - Mandy Trapp    “Right now we're being told how divided we are and how different we are from each other. We have way more in common. We have greater opportunities when we can ban together on the commonalities which are love, collective joy and intention. There are so many things that we could be focusing on that we are not focusing on.” - Mandy Trapp  Connect with Mandy Trapp:   https://www.mandytrapp.com/   https://www.facebook.com/groups/598165837553271   https://www.instagram.com/mandytrapp/   https://www.tiktok.com/@themandytrapp? Candice is a self proclaimed master manifestor and personal development junkie who loves to engage in interesting conversations with other influencers and entrepreneurs.  Her favourite conversations are the ones that take courage to engage in.  (Check out her podcast, Create the Ripple Podcast wherever you stream your podcasts for more of that!)   She spends her time living - in a tiny home (250 sq ft), traveling with her daughter - speaking - on her podcast and on stages, and sharing candidly with other women how to find love after betrayal, to trust themselves, to speak up for themselves and set powerful boundaries.    After a narcissistic and abusive romantic partner cheated on her with multiple women and left her (and the country) with significant unexpected bad debt and ruined credit, Candice was forced to rebuild her life, her credit and her trust in herself.   Over the next few years Candice navigated the challenging world of foreclosure court, filing for financial proposals and divorce.  During these times she adopted a minimalist lifestyle, leaned on her personal network and practiced radical personal forgiveness, acceptance and responsibility.  The journey was not without its impact and Candice shares powerfully about dealing with anxiety, depression, shame and learning to let go.   Now debt free, financially stable and in a safe committed relationship, Candice loves her minimalist lifestyle for the beauty and freedom it offers her.  She knows the power of a good thrift store shop and loves her wardrobe!  She has learned the power of saying no, listening to your own heart and speaks openly about subtle abuse as it occurs in relationships.   She's become a voice for listening to your own truth and speaking it powerfully.  She knows how to save money, make money online and in creative ways to balance the books as a single mom and yet live your biggest and best life.     Candice can never resist the urge to take off her boots to walk barefoot into a clear mountain lake or stream. When she is not connecting or writing, she can be found disappearing into the backcountry trails of Canada with her life-love Mark and losing herself exploring waterfalls and mountain trails. Lynne Twist became an activist after she was inspired by Buckminster Fuller’s vision of a global society in which no one was left behind. Since then she’s gone on to write a revolutionary book examining our cultural attitudes towards wealth called The Soul of Money, and she runs an organization called the Pachamama Alliance, which connects leaders in business to the Indigenous leaders that protect the Amazon rainforest. I could go on and on about Lynne’s background-- she’s truly incredible and I love her positive, yet powerful message. So I hope you enjoy my conversation with Lynne about how business needs to change in order to meet the social and environmental challenges we face. Lynn Twist For more than 40 years, Lynne Twist has been a recognized global visionary committed to alleviating poverty, ending world hunger and supporting social justice and environmental sustainability. From working with Mother Teresa in Calcutta to the refugee camps in Ethiopia and the threatened rainforests of the Amazon, as well as guiding the philanthropy of some of the world's wealthiest families, Lynne’s on-the-ground work has brought her a deep understanding of people’s relationship with money. Her breadth of knowledge and experience has led her to profound insights into the social tapestry of the world and the historical landscape of the times we are living in. Her compelling stories and life experiences inspired Lynne to write her best-selling, award-winning book “The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life” (W.W. It gets wider and wider and wider.”That we should consider young people as “our elders in universe time” and appreciate the wisdom they bring.ResourcesMarianne Williamson marianne.comBuckminster Fuller bfi.org/about-fullerConnect with LynneWebsite: soulofmoney.orgTwitter: twitter.com/lynne_twistFacebook: facebook.com/TheSoulOfMoneyInstitute Instagram: instagram.com/soulofmoneyFollow WCPGR on Social MediaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/WhatCouldPossiblyGoRightPodcastTwitter: https://twitter.com/postcarbonInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/postcarboninstitute/Learn more: https://bit.ly/pci-wcpgrseriesDon't forget to SUBSCRIBE so you don't miss an episode of What Could Possibly Go Right?Support the show (https://www.postcarbon.org/support-what-could-possibly-go-right/)

Guest Introduction: This is Exploring the Seasons of Life podcast episode 24. I’m Cindy MacMillan and today’s guest is Carolynn Bottino.  Welcome to Exploring the Seasons of Life, a podcast for women with a big heart on a spiritual journey. Each week, join Cindy MacMillan as she interviews coaches, spiritual explorers and celebrants from all walks of life about beginnings, endings and the messy bits in-between. Self-love, well-being, and mindset are at the heart of our conversations because once you change the inside, the outside will begin to change as well.   If you are joining us for the first time, I am so happy you are here and thanks for listening. Today’s guest is Carolynn Bottino.  After working with more than 100 bookkeeping clients, Carolynn was inspired to empower to people to find joy in their relationship with money. Her approach is practical and holistic, with no judgement, helping clients find abundance and transform the way they think about and interact with money. Carolynn is an author, speaker, and the founder of the Money Empowerment Project. She is passionate about helping women business owners and soulpreneurs become BFFs with their money. Her international best-selling book The Land of Plenty: A Soulpreneur’s Guide to Finding Joy, Possibility and Abundance through Money Empowerment has been featured on the Spirited Woman’s top 12 book pick list for 2020. Here’s a glimpse of our conversation: (02:12) So I would say for me the seasons of life, it's just the natural flow of what happens for us. So we're always growing and we're always evolving. And by staying aware of where we are in that journey, I feel like it really gives us the power to shift and change and transform in a way that we're able to create what it is that we want in our life most. And so to me, the seasons of life is just a reminder that every moment in our life is important, but it might give us different perspective depending on which side of that season we're on. (06:27) A lot of the questions I was asking myself, what do I like to do? What are my skill sets? How can I be of service? If I need to make money and fill this financial gap now that I was fired, what should I do to fill that gap? And out of that was born All The Details Consulting, which is my event planning and bookkeeping business. And, yeah, it was this amazing experience of having the rug pulled out from under me and really kind of rising to the occasion. And that's where it all started. (08:25) And so some common beliefs that people have are, I have to work really hard or I'm not very good with money or a lot of people in the spiritual world are, I just want to help people. I shouldn't accept money for this spiritual work. And, you know, all of those are very limiting beliefs that keep us from our full potential and so much of our ability to receive money and receive everything that the universe wants to send our way can be blocked by those limiting beliefs. (25:17) Definitely. I would say money is energy. And I also say that money is infinite because as we exchange it, it just regenerates and multiplies just as I was explaining that circle of, you know, the people that I interacted with, it regenerates every time. And so as we spend, it regenerates and it multiplies. (27:26) I was actually thinking about this question earlier, and there's so many, I have some resources in the back of my book, but the one that really is jumping out at this very moment is The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life by Lynne Twist. It is probably my favorite money book of all time. And it is not just about money. It's really about this exchange between people as well. You can find Carolynn Bottino at: Website | Facebook Thank you for listening to this week's episode of Exploring the Seasons of Life and my conversation with Carolynn Bottino.  I continue to be so grateful for your support and feedback, and I truly love hearing from you! Corey details the “CDE”, the fundamental framework for authentic negotiating:  C for clarity D for detachment E for equilibrium Corey covers questions to ask yourself for gaining clarity: What is it that you do in your life to get centered and reconnected? If you’re taking the next right action, trust that you’re moving in the right direction and trust that it will be revealed to you what the next right action is. Corey defines and explains the Pygmalion effect (also known as the Rosenthal effect) and how this had a profound impact in his own life. When working through a paradigm, expect “terror barriers”. I heard Lynne Twist speak for the first time approximately eight years ago and have been a huge fan of her work ever since. Her ability to capture the essence of what matters most in life is deeply moving and inspiring. In fact, what I distinctly remember from that day is that every cell in my body was resonating with energy that coursed through my body and made what felt like an indelible impression on my soul. When I returned home, I dove more deeply into her work. I discovered that while tiny in physical presence, she has always been mighty in vision and capability. For more than forty years she has been a recognized global visionary dedicated to alleviating poverty, ending world hunger, and supporting social justice and environmental sustainability. Her breadth of knowledge and experience has led her to profound insights about the social tapestry of the world and the historical landscape of the times we are living in, especially now as we continue our journey into what she calls “The Sophia Century," which is defined as the time in our history when the feminine archetype returns, awakening women and men to transform the world. Lynne Twist is a global pro activist, speaker, and author of the best-selling book, The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life. She is the co-founder of the Pachamama Alliance, a social profit organization that is an alliance between indigenous people of the Amazon Rainforest and conscious, committed people in the modern world, for the sustainability of life. Lynne has shared her passion on stage with some of today's top thought leaders, including Oprah Winfrey, The Dalai Lama, Jane Goodall, and Desmond Tutu. Sara Vetter is the Business Development Director of the Soul of Money Institute (SOMI) and is a coach, consultant, workshop leader, keynote speaker, and strategist. She is also the Major Gift Fundraiser for the Pachamama Alliance. Sara has had experience in advertising, marketing, and sales with the Disney Channel and several magazines including LA Magazine. She has been coaching, consulting, and leading workshops with Lynne Twist for more than seven years. Sara is an experienced SOMI facilitator of workshops, fundraisers, journeys, and retreats. She also leads several of the Pachamama Alliance Transformational Educational programs. Sara has held a leadership role with the Nobel Women's Initiative, co-led delegations to Dharamsala, India, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Liberia. As the major gift fundraiser for the Pachamama Alliance, Sara has led and participated in more than nineteen delegations and immersion trips to the Amazon Rainforest. She has raised millions of dollars for the Pachamama Alliance and the Nobel Women's Initiative and is a consummate fundraiser. What if this is not the darkness of the tomb, but the darkness of the womb?' Watch Valarie Kaur's speech, link below. Show Notes: This is a time of deep rupture, but also tremendous wisdom. The 20th Century was dominated by war or the fear of war. We are experiencing a breakdown of governance and the rule of law globally that has been dominating and surpassing for centuries. We are experiencing a revealing (revelation) of the many systems of colonization, white supremacy, racism, and the systematic abuse of other human beings. The Soul of Money Institute has been working in the realms of economy and ecology with the goal of guiding our human family back into remembering our connection to mother nature and in building sustainability. The masculine energy of economy and feminine energy of ecology need to work together in harmony and find a way to integrate and work together. We need both the innovation and the production of the masculine energy but we need that energy to be tempered with the nurturing and the flow of the feminine - such as the elements of fire and water. The pandemic is a portal into the change we need to reflect, reveal, regenerate, renew, recreate. This is a magical time where we invite the feminine back into our awareness. This is also a time to trust nature and witness the regenerative power of our environment and see it as proof of what's possible. The Kichwa People use the word Pachamama which means the earth, the sky, the universe, and all time. Lynne had an awakening experience through a shamanic ceremony and a vision and communication that connected her to an indigenous tribe called the Achuar people. The Soul of Money and The Pachamama Alliance have both been an integral part of connecting to the wisdom of the indigenous people and bringing it to the modern world so that we can transform our ways. The Remarkable Women's Journey is a program offered by The Soul of Money Institute through a six-month journey and part of that is traveling into the Amazon Rain Forest learning how they can be of service to the world in a bigger way. If you are a woman, your role is way more vital than you have known before. Your job at this time in history is to own that and tune into what is calling you forward and to do it with full permission and passion. You are wanted, needed, and you are important to the future of the planet, not as a burden, but as an honor. This time in our history is happening for us, not to us.

How To Access The Power of Leadership

Leadership as a keyword has over 4.4 billion search results on Google. The corporate leadership training industry is big too. Organizations in the US alone spend upwards of $14 billion annually on training their employees to be leaders and leadership development is ranked as one of the top three things senior executives (and business leaders) are most interested in. Yet, somehow, most of these leadership programs fail to deliver on their promise: access to being a leader. Why on earth would that be the case? In a remarkable conversation with Lynne Twist -- a pro-activist and acclaimed author who raised hundreds of millions for philanthropic causes (standing in the vision of a world that works for everyone, with no one and nothing left out) -- who had the opportunity to work alongside iconic world leaders like Mother Teresa, Buckminster Fuller, Maya Angelou and the Dalai Lama (to name a few), points to something very important on the access of leadership. Here's the tip of the iceberg in terms of our conversation together on this episode: "When you make that kind of commitment, when you take a stand with your life, what comes through you is a level of effectiveness, inspiration, and I’ll call it guidance that one doesn’t even know is possible. You stop living your life, your little life starring you, and you live your stand. When you take a stand, you let go of any position you have. You take a stand that gives you incredible access. Archimedes said, “Give me a place to stand and I’ll move the world.” You can and you do." - Lynne Twist Tune in to learn about: The root access to true leadership Dealing with both ends of the spectrum: deep pain and extreme joy What it's like to stand for something bigger than yourself (a world that works for everyone, with no one and nothing left out) The Hunger Project and its global initiatives The Pachamama Alliance — a social profit (nonprofit) organization whose mission is to empower indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest About the book The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life   Connect with Lynne Twist: Linkedin Twitter Website TED Talk Lynne Twist's biography: For more than 40 years, Lynne Twist has been a recognized global visionary committed to alleviating poverty, ending world hunger and supporting social justice and environmental sustainability. Her breadth of knowledge and experience has led her to profound insights about the social tapestry of the world and the historical landscape of the times we are living in. Her compelling stories and life experiences inspired Lynne to write her best-selling, award-winning book “The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life” (W.W. Story: Yesterday at the retreat, women coming in from around the world, women going into the workforce, men’ can compartmentalize work vs. personal lives, women’s minds are much more holistic.   We all want to transform our relationship around money. All transformation begins in mind. Transformation is the x-factor of the mathematical equation. Your identity is the x-factor of your spiritual awakening. It is the ultimate transformational ignitor. The moment you consider yourself to be anything other than the all you set the universal law into motion. The self-contemplating the self is the greatest ‘to do’ list item there is! Tuesday =MARS Tuesday is ruled by the planet of action and energy, Mars and is a great day for getting things done.   If Monday is all about setting the emotional tone, Tuesday is all about putting that tone into action.   Tuesday is the perfect day to launch forward with projects, make decisions and get ahead, especially when it comes to your career. The energy of the day will also help you to start making progress in all areas of your life and is excellent for getting in tune with your passions.   In order to best use the energy of Tuesday, get clear about what you want and then go out there and make it happen. Mars energy gives us the drive and passion to follow through on our goals, dreams and desires.   DAILY UNIVERSAL LAW: Today we align with the LAW OF POLARITY: The Law of Polarity is set into motion by Spirit (Your Higher-Self) contemplating its own identity. The moment you consider something to be, it sets Universal Laws into motion. Beliefs within the soul activate and direct energy. Also, intention, attention, initiation, and selection set the mechanics into motion   DAILY SPIRITUAL PRACTICE: Remember who you are   DAILY CHALLENGE: Question everything   LIVE YOUR TRUTH, DR. Lynne Twist on How to Understand the Soul of Money I first met Lynne Twist in Hawaii when she whizzed in to give a presentation at the Mind Valley Seminar happening there. I was so moved and inspired with her story, that I spent the next couple years persistently tracking her down until we finally managed to schedule THIS interview. It's so interesting to me that Lynne's interview, Lara's interview, Carol's and Mary's ALL have so much more to do with the "Attitude" and "soul" of money, than they do actual financial managment. While I think both are important, I do believe the human spirit is senior to the physical/material world, and that your attitudes and ideas about money and abundance have a lot to do with what you're willing to allow yourself to experience in life. If you're looking to upgrade your spiritual and financial software, this call is a very special one with a very special woman. I noticed that Lynne was recently on Oprah, too, and you can find another clip with Oprah here. Ari Weinzweig is the co-founder of Zingerman’s Community, a chain of delis with purpose. Ari and his business partner, Paul Saginaw, opened their first deli in 1982 with a $20,000 bank loan. Today, Ari and Paul have over 700 employees and their business grosses around $60 million in annual sales. Named one of the world’s top ten CEOs by Inc. Magazine, Ari has a world of knowledge on how to lead a purposeful business no matter what industry you’re in. Ari had no dreams or desires of owning a business. In fact, he had pretty negative beliefs about business, growing up. After he graduated college, he got a job as a dishwasher to try and ‘figure things out.’ This is where Ari met his now business partner,  Paul Saginaw, who was the general manager at the restaurant. After 40 years later, Ari says that they — still — like each other and are good friends. An important lesson Ari learned from Paul was that business is merely a tool. It’s not the tool itself that’s the issue, it’s how it’s used. This concept completely changed Ari’s belief about business. It sounds odd, but Ari never really thought about the impact of beliefs in business on a fundamental level until about 5 years ago, despite already incorporating (almost subconsciously) strong beliefs into his businesses. Everything people ever do is based on beliefs. Every action they take is based on their set of beliefs. So, it makes sense why also bringing beliefs into a business, and making them clear, helps the business thrive on new levels.   Interview Links: Zingermanscommunity.com Zingermanstraining.com The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life, by Lynne Twist Transformed!: The Science of Spectacular Living, by Bob Wright and Judith Wright Humanisteq Website Scaling Up Website Gazelles Website Bill on YouTube

Lynne Twist is the author of The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life. Money, and the lack of it, is a very important subject for entrepreneurs, but Lynne is here to tell you that your limited beliefs on money are actually hurting you, not helping you. Today, Lynne discusses how you can become liberated from money, instead of being chained by it. From Bucky Fully to Mother Teresa, these are just some of the inspirational people and mentors Lynne was able to work shoulder to shoulder with. When Lynne was younger, she used to call people who were financially lacking, ‘poor,’ but now that she’s seen the world, she would never use that title to describe them. What’s poor is just their circumstances, not the people themselves. The most underprivileged and underserved have show Lynne pillars of strength, courage, and resilience. On the flip side, while working on The Hunger Project and raising money from the rich, Lynne noticed that the rich, too, have their problems. Everything from addiction, to abandonment issues. The ‘rich,’ something Lynne no longer calls them, are human too. Too much money can cause us to lose our identity. So, by working with these two very different contrasts, Lynne discovered something important: On top of needing to feed ourselves, we also have a hunger for meaning. Both groups have distorted images of money, and its worth.   Interview Links: Soulofmoney.org THP.org Humanisteq Website Scaling Up Website Gazelles Website Bill on YouTube     Did you enjoy today's episode?
