Welcome back to another episode of The Elite Recruiter Podcast! In this episode, we have the privilege of hosting the insightful Kalifa Oliver, as we delve into the crucial topic of upgrading the candidate experience. Join us as we explore the flaws and biases within the recruitment process and discuss the need for a more human-centered approach. Kalifa Oliver takes center stage to shed light on the pitfalls of relying solely on resumes and past experiences when evaluating a candidate's suitability for a role. They elaborate on how people are in a constant state of growth and change, and recruiters must consider this evolution rather than simply analyzing static skills on paper. The guest boldly questions the notion of meritocracy and devises an argument against it, asserting that it ultimately hinders the recruitment process rather than enhancing it. Prepare to be captivated as Kalifa shares deeply personal experiences that challenge conventional wisdom, such as shrinking oneself to avoid intimidation and questioning the status quo when it comes to the composition of rooms. Our discussion takes a thought-provoking turn as we hone in on the insufficiencies of the candidate experience and the impact it has on an organization's reputation. Kalifa recounts both positive and negative encounters they have had during their own job searches, emphasizing how these experiences shaped their perception of the companies involved. Furthermore, they express their frustration with the common oversight of the candidate experience as an essential component of the recruitment process. As we explore the consequences of rushing hiring decisions and treating candidates as mere numbers, Kalifa passionately advocates for humanizing the process, treating recruiters and candidates with respect, and focusing on the importance of effective communication. The interview concludes with a fascinating analysis of the current state of recruiting systems and the vulnerabilities within them. Kalifa highlights the rise of scams and data misuse on platforms such as LinkedIn and Indeed, emphasizing the need for caution and a critical eye when navigating the vast networks of job search platforms. We also delve into the disconnect between talent acquisition and system implementation, shedding light on the frustration experienced by both candidates and recruiters. Moreover, we explore the shifting expectations and desires of new generations entering the workforce, emphasizing the growing importance of work-life balance and control. Join us in this eye-opening episode as we address the flaws in the recruitment process and chart a course towards a more holistic, human-centered approach to upgrading the candidate experience. In this episode, the magical Kalifa Oliver PhD, guides us on a journey to understand how listening, data, storytelling and speaking in your audiences' language (plus an infusion of humor!) is the formula to inching change forward. She explains that it is not data itself that helps people move toward change, but rather building a bridge from data to help people understand how things will be better if they act on that data. In our discussion she walks her talk - sharing rich and informative stories of how combining data, insight and a vision for the future makes taking a step toward change very easy for people. durée : 01:02:00 - Les Nuits de France Culture - Au Salon du livre de mars 2018, Jean-Noël Jeanneney recevait Dominique Kalifa pour évoquer le personnage d'Arsène Lupin et la vie de Maurice Leblanc.

I had one of the best fried fish sandwiches I've had in a long while recently at Shabazz Seafood in Savannah, Ga. Whiting is fried crispy hot to order, and it's sandwich with a stellar reputation in Savannah. But, this take out spot that opened its order window in 1989 hasn't been known much outside the city until recently. That all changed when it was featured this year on Netflix's Fresh, Fried, and Crispy, and that happened because Kalifa Shabazz, who grew up working with her parents after school, found a place for herself in the business and a calling for her new profession when she began doing social media for the restaurant. Mom and Savannah Alderwoman Estella Shabazz and dad Yusuf Shabazz are community leaders, and Kalifa's already thinking about how she can support the community further.

Timestamps / Chapters00:00 - Introduction8:43 - S3E18 - The CitadelWith help from R2-D2 and a squad of captured battle droids, an elite team of Jedi and clone troopers led by Obi-Wan and Anakin attempt to free a captive Jedi general, Even Piell, from an impenetrable prison. Despite orders to the contrary, Ahsoka Tano tags along, though she proves indispensable when the infiltration mission begins to evolve. Piell and his fleet officer, Captain Tarkin, are liberated from their cells, but now the fugitives must escape the Citadel itself.18:53 - S3E19 - CounterattackWith freed prisoners in their possession and the brutal warden attempting desperately to thwart them, Obi-Wan and Anakin search for a way out of the Citadel and back to Coruscant. The prison, however, has more traps, perils and pitfalls in store for them than they had imagined and they must work past their differences if they are to escape. Their bid to board their shuttle fails when heavy weapons fire destroys the escape craft. Trooper Echo dies in the blast. The escapees then flee to the caves and call for rescue from the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.25:15 - S3E20 - Citadel RescueAfter their ship and only way off the planet is destroyed, Anakin and Obi-Wan must lead the escaped prisoners across Lola Sayu's perilous landscape as Plo Koon commands a task force of four cruisers and their fighters through the Separatist defenses in a daring rescue. Even Piell is ravaged by anooba tracking beasts, but before he dies, he passes on his Nexus Routes coordinates to Ahsoka. When the survivors return to Coruscant, Ahsoka knows half the intel, and refuses to disclose it to anyone but the Jedi Council, while Tarkin refuses to hand over his half to anyone other than the Chancellor.37:37 - S3E21 - Padawan LostAhsoka and a group of abducted younglings find themselves trapped on a Trandoshan moon, prey in an elaborate and cruel hunt. The forlorn younglings have lost all hope, despite the best efforts of their spirited leader, Kalifa. Ahsoka rallies them to defend themselves and strike back against the Trandoshan, an effort with deadly consequences.45:54 - S3E22 - Wookie HuntAs Ahsoka and her youngling allies struggle to evade the Trandoshan hunters, their efforts receive an unexpected boost when a new captive -- Chewbacca the Wookiee -- arrives. Chewie scrounges parts from a wrecked Trandoshan slave ship, assembling a communicator to send out a distress signal. Help arrives in the towering, shaggy form of Wookiee warriors led by General Tarfful. Freed from captivity, Ahsoka returns to the Jedi Temple and is reunited with Anakin Skywalker.Theme song by Tizzy Phttps://soundcloud.com/tudor-petcuFollow our socials. https://www.tiktok.com/@canonballspodcast https://twitter.com/CanonBallsPod https://www.instagram.com/canonballspodcast/Follow us on Twitch to watch live and see our gaming content. https://twitch.tv/carcassboys Listen to the podcast on Sportify and iTunes.https://open.spotify.com/show/1bbZJvaFAApTCCHRTiorLO?si=ZW7usy9dQcu5gm-4DsO2rg https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/canon-balls-podcast/id1512691415 Like and subscribe on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC53OdYxjHJW95g2p08tkVnQ/Become a patron!https://www.patreon.com/user?u=34280702&fan_landing=true

My guest today is Khadija Kalifa, who is best known for being a finalist on Lord Sugar's reality TV show The Apprentice in 2018. After that life-changing experience, she became a serial entrepreneur, blogger, motivational speaker, business mentor and consultant. Setting up an award-winning brand ‘Keeping it real with Khadija', she has helped over 30 businesses to scale with consultancy and mentorship support, trained entrepreneurs in marketing and podcasting and was voted a top 10 motivational speaker in 2019. And all these achievements whilst being a devoted mother to three little girls, with the youngest being only a couple of months old. We recorded this interview with Khadija in the midst of the first lockdown and with Khadija being pregnant with her third daughter, so we did it over Zoom. And since then, Khadija has opened a soft play café Full of Beans Bourne just outside of Peterborough where she lives. On this episode we peek behind the closed doors of Khadija's home life, her relationships with her close ones, her wins and also the challenges that she has faced and is still dealing with. KEY TAKEAWAYS I like to choose my own things and follow the Kardashians style with quirky architectural pieces. My routine is built around my children and school. I could leverage the school run but I feel more connected and more hands-on as a mum if I do it. Being a part of the ‘The Apprentice' gave me lots of confidence in myself and my ability in business. Since launching ‘Keep It Real with Khadija' I've generated over a hundred thousand in revenue through mentoring and consulting. I'm just a normal person but being on the program has given me credibility and opened a lot of doors for me. My mindset is about understanding that everyone has problems but it's about getting on with it and moving forward with an open mind. Having to grow up quickly means I'm achieving more now than some other people do in a lifetime. I'm open about everything that happened to me because I want others to understand that if they are going through something similar, it's normal. I have learnt that you can channel anxiety and any worries in a constructive way. Pete talks to BBC’s The Apprentice finalist, Khadija Kalifa, who has, since leaving the show in 2018, gone on to become one of the nation’s most sought-after business coaches, due to her no-nonsense approach and wealth of experience. Khadija talks about the importance of self-development, the axiom that causes her to seize each day, the importance of optimism, and her empowering definition of what it means to have “fire in the belly”. KEY TAKEAWAYS For Khadija, the want and need for more to life, is the fuel that keeps her growing and moving on. All good entrepreneurs have an unquenchable desire to keep succeeding. You only have one life. If you are presented with opportunities, then you need to try to make the best of them. Count your blessings and realise that you’re not here forever. Seize the day. Success in her youth had a converse effect on Khadija. Even though she worked hard and achieved much, she was often looked down upon because of her age. it’s a common, and somewhat unfortunate occurrence. People often mistake optimism with naivety. But the ability to see past the negative, to look for the positive in all things, is a rare and valuable asset. Having fire in your belly and doing nothing with it is futile. You need to get up, get out there, and let that fire burn bright. Khadija used her energy to hustle, and to make her mark on the world. Children made Khadija realise that there are definitely things to feel blessed about. It has given her a different perspective on materialism, frustration, and life in general. Money means stability for Khadija and her family. Money is equal to the security and happiness of those closest to her. This is the reason that drives her forward. Following The Apprentice, Khadija was given the opportunity to evaluate her life and her business. The opportunities that came her way in the wake of her appearance allowed her to see that her cleaning business was not her destiny. Personal relationships are an incredibly important part of business, as they are a vital component in your happiness, and subsequent desire to achieve. Khadija has had to face monstrous egos and an incredible level of chauvinism during her journey. The key is to stay humble, and to use that negative force as a means to drive yourself harder. Procrastination prevents things from getting done. It’s far more expedient to get things done as soon as possible. Ask questions. Take action. Stop making excuses. Enjoy the journey. We must make sure that we stop to enjoy the life we’re living. It’s good for not just ourselves, but the ones we love. BEST MOMENTS ‘A bit of meat to the bone (even though I’m a pescatarian…)’ ‘I’m working hard because I like to play hard’ ‘I think I thought I knew everything’ ’Nothing you can do will ever stop me from living my best life’ ‘I feel like this wasn’t the life I was destined to be in’ ’There’s surviving and then there’s thriving’ ’Stay humble’ ‘I want to make shit happen’ ’There’s so much to be grateful for in life' VALUABLE RESOURCES https://www.keepitrealwithkhadija.com Keep It Real With Khadija Podcast - https://omny.fm/shows/keep-it-real-with-khadija/playlists/podcast ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Chatting With the Hosts starts at 2:26 We talk the stunningly beautiful Tale of Princess Kaguya, the film Lupin the III and the Castle of Caligrosto, the intense feelings inspired by Anohana and the Flower We Saw that Day, and Joel talks a bit about Black Clover again. The main episode begins at 12:44 This episode mainly focuses on Kalifa and Nami, and we discuss new powers on both sides of the battlefield! We discuss whether the power of soap and the power of being slippery are at all related, and we celebrate Nami coming into her own weather witch powers! Also featured is Chopper's Monster Point and a discussion of where it will pop up in the future, as well as the philosophy of justice. Eventually we use it to hate on Spandam some more
Chatting with the hosts starts at 2:04 We talk Hazbin Hotel, and are absolutely in love with Alastor the Radio Demon. Joel has continued to watch Black Clover and loves 2 new characters: Mereoleona Vermillion and Zora Ideale. We also discussing plans to be more focused and get more running done! Regular episode resumes at 20:39 The Succinct Summary Rap is at 21:22 - 22:31 Franky gets a lot of focus this episode, given his was the main fight and also because his fuel affects his personality, apparently?? Chopper uses the forbidden technique despite his sensei's warnings, and we suspect Kalifa is trying to woo Nami. Plus, Usopp becomes a sword, and we wonder who really should have been handcuffed together for maximum hilarity. Also, who (besides Spandam) is the stupidest member of CP9?
Register your interest in Serviced Accommodation Discovery Day here, and a member of our team will get back to you to confirm your place at your preferred date. ‘Cleaners are one of the most important parts in our business, they are our eyes and ears as the people who are first into a property when guests leave' In this hybrid episode, Khadija is interviewing Kevin about SA... And Kevin is interviewing Khadija about her cleaning business! They discuss what's important when you are starting out in Serviced Accommodation and the important role cleaning staff play in the operation of any Serviced Accommodation Business. This is a great podcast which offers an opportunity to see things from more than one perspective, listen in and enjoy. KEY TAKEAWAYS What if you are thinking of getting into SA? A lot of people do SA in the wrong way taking on extensive risk through the acquisition of a SA property, which is a challenge when further down the line they decide SA is not for them. People should get trained in SA before they get into SA because there are a lot of moving parts to consider. The DEALS model is an effective pathway for serviced accommodation D – due diligence E - explore A – acquisition a SA L – logistics S – Scrutinise People invest huge amounts of their money without understanding what they are doing You need to get some training and a mentor. Learn from a mentor's mistakes rather than making those mistakes yourself. Rent to SA is a great way of getting into serviced accommodation it is a model that requires much less investment. Working with cleaning companies as a SA provider Whatever you think you will need the cleaning company to do should be discussed in detail I have a fixed rate I don't want to pay differing amounts based on the level of untidiness I prefer not to negotiate so working with a cleaning company who have experience of SA is helpful because they are able to establish an average time for a clean and know what working in the SA sector entails. Our cleaners are one of the most important parts in our business, they are our eyes and ears as the people who are first into a property when guests leave. If you are constantly giving your cleaning company a problem you are not going to keep them. You need to pick a good cleaning company and then work well with that company BEST MOMENTS ‘The worst thing that can happen with rent to SA is that you give it back' ‘Build up your passive income when you are still in a job then you can live the life you want to live as an entrepreneur' ‘I spent 24 years in the army as an entrepreneur, if you have an entrepreneurial spirit you have to find a way to be an entrepreneur' ‘I'm fully aware that sometimes guests leave a property looking nice and sometimes it's like a war zone' VALUABLE RESOURCES Keeping it Real with Khadija Podcast The Serviced Accommodation Property Podcast https://propertysoldier.co.uk/ ABOUT THE HOST Your host Kevin Poneskis enjoys public speaking, travelling, exercising and keeping fit. One of the best ways to consume content nowadays is through podcasts. Not only does it save time, but it also helps you grasp ideas easier since you hear the emotions in the conversations. In this collaborative episode, Catherine is joined by the Keep It Real with Khadija Podcast host, who is none other than Khadija, to talk about the world of podcasting – from pre-planning to producing to publishing. They talk about how to scout guests, how to select the best VA, why people choose podcasts over radio, how to make a business thrive, and many more. There is also some unwritten podcasting etiquettes between podcasters which you might need to know. Then after the insightful discussion, Catherine plays Khadija’s Yes or No game at the end so listen in! KEY TAKEAWAYS As podcasters, where do Khadija and Catherine get their awesome guests? Khadija, for one, used the VIVA Club (link below) to find the most reliable virtual assistant she will work with. Guests are then selected by them, the hosts, for the VA’s to contact them. For Catherine, it also helps that she connects to most of the guests through social media platforms to get a chance to engage with them and tell them how your podcast can help them show how relevant they are. Stay in touch with your guests (and other podcasters who also invited the guest). Plan out when the content (i.e. audio/video) will be published and make sure it won’t cross with the launch of his other podcast guesting’s. You don’t want to anger other podcasters while getting the maximum engagement for your episode as much as possible. In addition, your guests might also know someone who can also offer a fresh perspective related to your podcast. Why do people prefer podcasts over radio nowadays? People love authenticity, the smooth informal flow of conversations. It’s easier to trust people who can be themselves easily. You can’t too much pressure on yourself in growing your business. For most, the first business they’ve manage was more of a big business course—learning what to do and not to do, correcting mistakes, and so on. Catherine quit being an employee in 2013, after working more than 50+ hours on average a week, over 3 jobs. In 2011/12 Catherine discovered the power of investing in property, and tried many different property investment strategies over the years, finally settling on Serviced Accommodation in 2015, which has now grown from one unit in her home town of Chelmsford, Essex to over 50 across the UK, helping investors, landlords and developers create a better return on their money or property. Chatting with the Hosts starts at 2:27 We discuss: the Black Clover anime, Paul Kreuger's Steel Crow Saga, and Kat's first step on her Inuyasha journey. Regular episode resumes at 17:36 Luffy has evolved one step further in this episode. We also celebrate the greatness of Sodom, Gamorrah, Sogeking, and Franky being a feral biter! Plus, we get plenty of stuff to speculate, such as what devil fruit powers Kaku and Kalifa will get, what's inside Devil Fruits, and if Zoro is manifesting a new power!
Kevin joins forces with Business & Lifestyle Coach, Mumpreneur & BBC Apprentice Finalist, Khadija Kalifa to discuss their journeys to success. Kevin and Khadija dive into their humble beginnings and share learnings from how they got started in business and in property. Learn key lessons on how to start, grow and scale your property business and why starting out with nothing and getting creative and lead to huge opportunity. KEY TAKEAWAYS You need to just get out there and immerse yourself in the property world. Make sure you attend events, read books and listen to podcasts in order to educate yourself. Starting out in property is just like starting out a new job, you need to listen, learn and watch what's going on and follow those that have done it before you. Most importantly, you need to get out there and meet people, find joint venture partners and opportunities for property investing. Don't listen to BREXIT no one knows what's going to happen there is a lot of uncertainty, but one thing is certain, people are always going to need properties and houses to live in. The population of the UK is growing every year and each year we do not have enough housing accommodation. In order to be successful, you need to surround yourself with mentors, coaches, peers and like-minded people. Fill your room with a power team of people that can help push you forward. Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you. You can't learn everything so leverage others knowledge and expertise. In this very special episode, the conversation is flipped the other way around! David finds himself being interviewed about deal packaging and property by none other than Khadija Kalifa, one of the most successful contestants on BBC’s The Apprentice, and a valued member of the Progressive Property team, who met with David to dig into his more personal side, but also to discuss his journey, his take on success, and what deal packaging can do for you… KEY TAKEAWAYS The average fee for any deal packager in the UK is £5,200. Lining up a few of these deals in a row can net you a superb income. Deal packagers need to work using lots of different strategies, such as buy-to-lets, HMOs etc. But the more you work at it, the bigger your network grows, and the more successful your company will be. You can increase your yields by layering on your knowledge, your different strategies. By using HMO or SA strategies on your investments, you can raise your yield percentage, which is always attractive to investors, who can earn way more from being a part of your strategy than from traditional savings interest rates. If you’re going to be a property person, you need to make firm alliances with people you can trust, and who can make your business tick along reliably. There’s no substitute for a power team. You need to enjoy your journey, whatever that may be. David always applies humour to his public speaking, but also looks on the brighter side in every part of his life. If people like you, it won’t only help you in business, but also in life. One of the most valuable lessons that David has learned is that it’s okay to think about business in a more collaborative way. For most of his business life, it was ingrained into him that you do not share anything that will benefit your competitors. But upon joining Progressive Property, David has learned about the value in networking, sharing and becoming part of a team that works tirelessly to help each other. Khadija and David both believe firmly that life should be lived to its full extent. It’s not enough to settle. Staying hungry and always planning for the next challenge opens up a world of possibilities in life, whether that is travel, security or being able to give your family the best version of life. But it takes work. You need to be prepared to put in the hours. BEST MOMENTS ‘I might be 64 but inside I’m 24!’ ‘Deal packaging is the fastest way on the planet to get money into your property business’ ‘Property is a joy’ ‘All my material needs are covered by property’ ‘You’re exactly the way you are at home, but bigger’ ‘I’ve made more friends here over the past three years than I’ve made in the last thirty’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Property Sourcing Profits Podcast Khadija Kalifa – Instagram Khadija Kalifa – Twitter ABOUT THE HOST David is a property expert with over 25 years’ experience and his own portfolio of 26 units. His current rent roll is in excess of £10k per month. He is also a partner in a Deal Sourcing and Packaging business in the North West of England and has sourced over 250 properties for investors since 2004. In recent years he has, by necessity, had to develop an expertise in LHA strategies. This area is increasingly becoming a niche for him, and he enjoys empowering other landlords by sharing the knowledge he has gained. The ultimate purpose when sourcing properties in this sector for investors is to minimise risk while maximising profit. He has had to find answers to the challenges of Tenant Find, Management, ensuring rents are paid and the transition to Universal Credit. These are strategies he uses in his own business and also on behalf of investors. His investor clients regularly achieve annual gross yields of over 20% with high occupancy rates and voids resolved, sometimes within hours. CONTACT METHOD LinkedIn Facebook
Keeping It Real With Khadija! As part of the entrepreneurial series, Nick is in conversation with Khadija Kalifa entrepreneur and former contestant on ‘The Apprentice’ They discuss the journey Khadija has been on, what it is really like to be an entrepreneur and finding what you love then making it your vision. This fascinating podcast is a must for anyone who wants to really know what it’s like if you are ‘keeping it real’ listen in to find out more. KEY TAKEAWAYS My cleaning business was circumstantial, a necessity due to factors in my life at the time. From an early age, I knew that if I wanted something I had to work hard for it. I have a belief system, a mindset that drives me to be successful. It is important to me and I see it as my responsibility to make sure everybody in my family is looked after. Some people like to have a life of certainty, everything is more or less what you expect it to be until it’s not. Those are the people who try to keep it as level as possible but that’s not realistic. As an entrepreneur, there are always ups and downs but you have to take control of your future. We all have the same needs but require the balance between those needs to be different according to our individual characters. The psychology is important, you need to understand who you are and who you need around you to move your business forward successfully. You cannot do it on your own you need others around you to take on the other necessary roles within the business. Since being on ‘The Apprentice I have utilised opportunities for public speaking, networking and podcasts. It was like a business boot camp. I came out having learnt a huge amount about business and gained confidence in my own abilities. If I can help others learn from my mistakes then I am able to offer them something positive. People need to decide on a set of standards. When you start with that you can then retrofit those standards back to your business. If you don’t do that you won’t have the vision in place to move forward. Your mission to build an empire requires you to have a vision where others are working within it. If you are doing what you love, doing it becomes your passion. The empire then becomes part of the clarity, not the destination. Most people want to help people in the way that they can help. If you find what you are really special at then everything changes and there is no work anymore. BEST MOMENTS ‘I’ve always been a hustler’ ‘You’ve got to have a balance’ ‘If someone’s being stupid, I tell them they are being stupid’ ‘The entrepreneurial journey is within everyone but it’s a trigger that is switched in some of us’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Scale Up Your Business Podcast ABOUT THE HOST My name is Nick Bradley. Welcome back to the Presenting, Pitching & Public Speaking Podcast. In this episode, Toni speaks with BBC 2018 Apprentice star and self-made Mumpreneur Khadija Kalifa. Their conversation takes a look at how Khadija has used presenting, pitching and public speaking in her career, from running a family business to being a superstar on the 2018 series of the Apprentice. Key Takeaways What Made You Apply To The Apprentice? I watched it for years and thought I can do better. I love business, love sales, and meeting people. I didn’t think I would get on but being in the final six is amazing. I applied the year before but missed the email, so getting this far this season is a great feeling. Do You Care About What Other People Say About You? I don’t care about what other people say about me if they are going to be hateful. I used to care a lot about what other people say but the more I networked and met with like-minded people I cared less and less. My sister would get affected the most but I think there has been a turning point where the positivity outweighs the negative recently. Did You Have To Do A Pitch When You First Applied To The Apprentice? Your first round of interviews is your elevator pitch in the application process. I got a lot of positive feedback from that. There are lots of different interviews through the process and being ‘real’ was really essential in the process. How Does The New Found Fame Feel? I love people, so meeting everyone is great. So many people came up to me asking for a selfie but not yet an autograph. I’m grateful for the new found fame because I think people really want to change their lives and I want to help them do that through business. I’m grateful for the new found platform. How Difficult Was It Being Away From Your Kids? It was really difficult. Being in the Apprentice is difficult because of the annoying other people in the show but also because you are away from your kids for up to two months. It’s annoying in business you have to be one thing or another: parent or businesswoman. I want to make it easier to fit being a parent and a business person together. Do You Think The Apprentice Is A True Representation Of You? Yeah because I have a good heart but I am feisty. All entrepreneurs have an element of aggression or assertiveness about them. It’s not an insult because I think it’s passionate. Do You Believe That The Skills You’ve Learnt In Presenting Yourself Well Have Helped Your Career? Definitely, I had my first paid speaking gig recently and I wanted to be authentic so I didn’t have a powerpoint or notes. Eventually, someone is going to like me for who I am. I’m not trying to be very corporate, I’m just a mom who is hustling. What I love about speaking is the feeling you get when students come and speak to you after the speech. Do You Get Nervous? Yeah, you can still hear it in everyone’s voice. You have to channel your nerves in the right way. Surely even Beyonce gets nervous before she performs and you have to go onto stage with a fierce alter ego. Get Into The Mindset Of An Employee. I realised that the employees were never going to see the business in the same way as I do. It’s not their business. When your an employee you don’t care about the big picture as much. It can take a while to realise this. In Five Years Time, I would like to be happy, have a nice house. Money is one of the biggest factors of people being down. Running this business has been a financial strain, so having a support system is really important. Best Moments ‘I love business, love sales, and meeting people.’ ‘Focus on your own destiny and your own success.’ ‘People are going to judge you anyway.’ ‘I want to see to get the best out of people.’ ‘Trying to make business more open to being a Parent.’ ‘If you need help get the help.’ ‘It’s all about passion.’ ‘Hustle until your haters ask if your hiring.’ ‘If you’re not nervous you're not going to give the best performance.’ ‘People don’t connect with you unless you show your care.’ ‘You need to remember what it was like for you as an employee.’ ‘You don’t always have to keep your errors or insecurities to yourself. Speak to people.’’ ABOUT THE HOST Toni Gargan is a Double World Record-holding Public Speaker, Mentor, Entrepreneur, and Professional Property Investor. Welcome back to Leveraged Lifestyle, in this episode Catherine chats with 2018 Apprentice star, and Mumpreneur, Khadija Kalifa. Catherine and Khadija talk about her business story, setting up a cleaning business from scratch to being a contestant on the Apprentice. Khadija talks honestly about how she’s overcome some of the challenges she has faced in her life and we hear what it’s really like to be on the Apprentice. Key Takeaways Manifestation, Vision and Action. Having a vision in business is essential, you can’t be successful without it. Manifestation, however, happens when there is focused action following that vision. Vision followed by action leads to manifestation, and with those three elements nothing is impossible. Understand Your Reason Why. Listen to most entrepreneurs for long enough and they will all have a deep, and meaningful reason why they are in business. Khadija shared her reason for being in business was her children and trying to give them the best possible life in the future. Understanding your reason why can act as a really important buffer when things aren’t going so well and make you more resilient in the future. Don’t Be Embarrassed. If you need to stop something because that is the right thing to do for you then don’t be embarrassed to do so. Khadija spoke about closing one business because it didn’t fit with wanting to spend time with her kids. Don’t shy away from a decision if it’s the right thing to do for you. What Was The Aim In Applying To The Apprentice? Khadija shared her reasons for applying to be on the apprentice; to become Lord Sugar's business partner. It offered Khadija credibility to talk about issues that are important to her and her children like education. Styles Of Leadership. Khadija spoke of having learnt from past mistakes in developing her own style of leadership. From being really strict, to begin with, and then lurching to being overly laissez-faire. Her leadership style is now a combination of friendliness but when there is poor performance she will take action to correct it quickly. The Apprentice. Everyone sees the reality TV element of the apprentice. The humour and the editing all make for great TV. What viewers don’t see often is the contestants crying at the end of the day, being away from their families with little contact for an extended period of time and missing their children. Mumpreneur As A Term. We all love our kids. Why in business do we pretend that we don’t have them? Mumpreneur came from a place of Khadija showing that being an entrepreneur and being a mom are two huge jobs and everyone should know that you're doing them both successfully. Best Moments ‘You’re either earning or you’re learning.’ ‘From the outset, I had the ambition to do more.’ ‘If you live it, see, and breath it, it will happen.’ ‘You need to know your reason why.’ ‘You have to learn to get the balance between work and home.’ ‘What’s your priority here?’ ‘Keep hustling, and grafting but don’t beat yourself up. Take a break.’ ‘I am a leader, on all the personality tests that how I come out.’ ‘I will do what I need to do, to help my children.’ About the Host (and Guest) Catherine Turner, your host of Leveraged Lifestyle Catherine has been investing in Property since 2012, with her main strategy now Serviced Accommodation which she, and now her team, have grown from 1 to 18 properties in less than 24 months.
