The Hero is a great film full of top-notch lessons. We follow Lee, an aged Western film star who has been riding the tail-end of his career for some time. With work only coming in the form of commercial voice-overs, Lee does not have much to look forward to. With a dire diagnosis, Lee starts to take inventory of his life, his situation, and what having a future really means. The cast ensemble is amazing. With Sam Elliott leading the charge, Laura Prepon, Kyrsten Ritter, and Nick Offerman join in for an incredible experience. Primary lesson in this episode is show don't tell. So much incredible voiceless acting, with strong direction and constant movement it makes for a great watch and something to aspire to in filmmaking and writing. Joey Lauren Adams was born in North Little Rock, Arkansas, the youngest of three children. Her father was a lumber yard owner. Adams grew up in the Overbrook neighborhood of North Little Rock and graduated from North Little Rock Northeast High School in 1986. She announced her intention to pursue acting after one year as an exchange student in Australia. In 1991, Adams appeared in "Top of the Heap", the 100th episode of Married... with Children, and subsequently starred in its short-lived spinoff. In 1993, Adams landed her first major film role as Simone in Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused. The same year, she appeared in the Saturday Night Live spinoff film Coneheads as one of Connie Conehead's friends. Two years later, Adams appeared in Mallrats, written and directed by Kevin Smith. The two started dating during the film's post-production, and their relationship provided the inspiration for Smith's next film, Chasing Amy. In 1997's Chasing Amy, Adams played the lead role of Alyssa Jones, a lesbian who falls in love with a man, played by Ben Affleck. In addition to her acting work on the film, Adams wrote and performed the song "Alive" for the film's soundtrack. Adams' performance in Chasing Amy earned her both the 1997 Chicago Film Critics Award and Las Vegas Film Critics Society Award for Most Promising Actress, and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress-Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. In 1999, Adams appeared in her first big-budget Hollywood release, playing Adam Sandler's love interest in the successful comedy Big Daddy. She then went on to appear in many smaller films, including Beautiful and In the Shadows. In 2006, Adams released her directorial debut film, Come Early Morning, starring Ashley Judd, Jeffrey Donovan, Diane Ladd, Tim Blake Nelson and Laura Prepon. The film, shot on location in Little Rock, Arkansas, was selected for the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. Adams is also known for her distinctive voice which one film critic referred to as that of a "sex-kitten-on-helium". Regarding her voice, Adams commented: "It's not a normal voice. It doesn't fit into people's preconceptions about what a woman's voice should sound like. My mom doesn't think I have an unusual voice, though. I'm sure it's helped me get some roles. But Chasing Amy I almost didn't get. There was concern the voice would grate on some people, which some critics said it did." Another film critic said that whether viewers loved it or hated it, her voice had "the potential to hypnotize.”

It's on the market, so if you need a two-story monolith, a fire-warmed groove pit, or a stone shower, it can be yours for the low, low price of just $3.699M! If you're looking for some bad news about the 70s - both the decade of the last century and that era of life - the recent saga of Daryl Hall and John Oates might hit the spot. The septuagenarians have settled their lawsuits against each other, but it doesn't sound like either is thrilled. In the "stuff we completely missed" column, actress Laura Prepon married actor Ben Foster - Mazel! - and the pair have since divorced. Apparently their prenuptial agreement went a long way toward speeding that process, but both took the opportunity to fire a few reputational shots at the other.  It seems that the Beckham family - England's David and Victoria and their now-adult children - is bending like... well, like any dysfunctional celebrity family might. Son Brooklyn and his wife Nicola renewed their vows sans any Beckham family representatives, while the famously social media clan has kept mum about the Instagram blasts celebrating the event.  We covered the brief marriage of Oscar winner Halle Berry and Atlanta Brave David Justice years ago, but apparently David is still having - and expressing on podcasts - thoughts about that era of his life. Danny Masterson, a hardcore Scientologist, recruited many co-stars into the "church", creating some seriously culty vibes on set. Scandals of underage relationships, substance abuse, and bad behavior from Masterson, Ashton Kutcher, and Wilmer Valderrama cast a dark shadow over this seemingly fun show. Masterson's 2023 rape conviction and 30-year prison sentence finally exposed this pig and what was actually happening behind the scenes of one of America's favorite sitcoms.✨Check out our Patreon for the sweetest swag around, 450+ ad free episodes (including 200 that aren't on the regular feed), monthly new bonus episodes (like Ash Learns the Bible and TSFU Presents) and access to all of our old bonus episodes, and SO much more! In this episode we talk about his education and early influences in photography.  His career in fashion and editorial photography.  And he shares some great stories about working with some of the top models in the 1990's as well as some of the incredible art directors and stylists. We also talk a bit about his personal style and aesthetics and much more.  Enjoy! Find Dewey on Instagram @deweynicks And his book, Polaroids of Women on Amazon Dewey Nicks was born in St. Louis, the gateway to the West, as the son of an advertising man. During family vacations to Hollywood as a child, he became intoxicated with its glamour and eccentricity. His love of fine arts finally drew him to California to study photography at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Since 1986, he has been working as a professional fashion and commercial photographer. His talent, combined with a deep well of enthusiasm, has landed his work in magazines such as Vogue, W, and GQ among many others. He has also created classic advertising images for clients including Tommy Hilfiger, Guess, and Polo. In 1995, Nicks added Commercial Direction to his resume. An Ameritrade spot in 1999 garnered him the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival Award for “The World's Funniest Commercial.” That same year he became a Director's Guild nominee for outstanding directorial achievement in television commercials. His reputation as a top fashion photographer and skilled commercial director have made him uniquely qualified to shoot both print and television spots for clients such as Tommy Hilfiger, Hugo Boss, Quiksilver, and Unionbay. In 2000 Greybull Press published Kustom, Nicks' first book of photographs inspired by the very ideals and unique expression that originally attracted him to California. Constantly looking to broaden his horizons, Nicks moved into filmmaking. His documentary short Hell House premiered at Slamdance and had its New York debut at the Museum of Modern Art. In 2002 he directed his first feature film, Slackers starring Jason Schwartzman, James King, Devon Sawa, and Laura Prepon. Versatile and talented, Dewey Nicks will be shaping popular culture for years to come. Grounded by his mid-western roots, Nicks' body of work combines an authentic visual sense with a great knowledge of the arts to convey his pragmatic understanding of the zeitgeist of contemporary America.   Find me on Instagram @toddritondaro Join the Frame and Sequence Substack newsletter for more podcasts and semi regular newsletter exploring photography, cinema, art, and travel.

With "That '90s Show" we once again find ourselves hanging out (down the street) in the Foreman's basement. This time however the show focuses around Leia, the daughter of Eric and Donna when she decides to spend the summer with her grandparents in Point Place, Wisconsin. This show brings back all the familiar faces and locations of That '70s Show while also focusing on creating a new batch of characters to follow. This '70s spinoff succeeds where That '80s Show failed in using the source material to set the framework. But does That '90s Show just use the nostalgia of the original just to bait and switch you into watching something completely different or does it truly capture the essence of the show we all came to know and love. Find out when the boys do a deep dive of the pilot episode, "That '90s Pilot". www.S1E1POD.com Starring: Kurtwood Smith, Debra Jo Rupp, Callie Haverda, Ashley Aufderheide, Mace Coronel, Reyn Doi, Sam Morelos, Maxwell Acee Donovan, Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Ashton Kutcher, & Mila Kunis

Dans cette reco du weekend, petit retour dans le passé avec That 70s Show, mais aussi avec Tout le monde déteste Chris pour finir sur The Middle (à ne pas confondre avec Malcolm in the Middle), avec trois générations différentes de familles américaines de la classe moyenne. That 70s Show 1998, démarre une sitcom américaine qui va devenir rapidement culte.
