Five years since the first 5 Worlds published, comic creator Mark Siegel joins us to discuss the final graphic novel chapter, The Emerald Gate. These stories represent more than the epic quest they depict; they're a creative collision resulting from five artistic talents aligning in harmonious imagination. Like the characters within 5 Worlds, these collaborators were changed by the journey, and we were giddy to chat with Siegel about the impact his characters and their creation had on him and his partners. As we've discussed recently on the show, we've connected deeply with many all-ages and young adult comics, and 5 Worlds is no different. This saga follows three adventurers as they jump planets, racing to unite sentient life across the universe before dark forces consume everything. You will find yourself within its pages. 5 Worlds: The Emerald Gate is now available from Random House Books. It's written by Mark Siegel and Alexis Siegel, and illustrated by Xanthe Bouma, Boya Sun, and Matt Rockefeller.  Be sure to follow Mark Siegle on Twitter and on Instagram. Greg interviews Mark Siegel, the director of Golfasian, one of Asia's largest golf tour operators. Greg opens with the caveat that neither he nor Ed are golfers and leaves it up to Mark to do his best to sell us on a golf holiday in the Land of Smiles.  Greg begins by noting that his first thought of a relaxing holiday would not be to spend 4 hours walking around in the scorching sun, but Mark (in the first of his many insights) responds that if you're back in the freezing winter of Canada you might! Mark then points out that the unique appeal of Thailand is that there are so many other things for tourists to do that even if you do spend 4 hours in the sun, the rest of the day can be spent getting a Thai massage or relaxing by the pool. In further discussions of what makes Thailand so good for golf compared to other destinations, Mark observes that there are over 60 (!) golf courses of all difficulty levels within proximity to Bangkok, and about one-third of them are owned by the military which means they are not run for profit and are incredibly cheap compared to places such as Japan. The guys continue with an in-depth discussion of the positive economic impact of golf courses on surrounding communities, what golf will look like in Thailand over the coming years, and how a golf holiday may actually be considered eco-friendly.  By the end, Greg and Ed are sold. At least in theory. If they don't have to get off their couches. But you, you can go do it for real and tell us all about it! Don't forget that Patrons get the ad-free version of the show as well as swag and other perks. Hello again Racing Ears,In this episode, Rick Knoop was kind enough to let me chat with his friend Peter Miles.  Peter Miles is the son of Ken Miles, who was heavily involved as a test driver, mechanic, and racing driver in the development of the Ford GT40 back in the mid 1960's.  The Ford GT40 won the 1966 Le Mans 24 Hours, beating Ferrari for the first time.  Ken Miles won the 1966 24 Hours of Daytona, the 1966 12 Hours of Sebring, and was famously denied the win at the 1966 Le Mans 24 Hours by a technicality.        The 2019 motion picture "Ford v Ferrari" starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale depicted the story of the friendship between Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles. It was truly an honor to be able to speak with Rick Knoop and Peter Miles. Thanks to Mark Siegel for letting me record his 1966 Ford GT40 Mark II at Thunder Hill  Raceway way back in July of 2016.  Thank you for listening to The Racing Ear Podcast.  #theracingearpodcast #petermiles#kenmiles#rickknoopracing#dannyongais#marksiegelfordgt40

Mark Siegel grew up in Minneapolis loving science fiction and monster movies. He was an avid reader of Famous Monsters of Movieland magazine and the articles sparked his imagination. He earned a degree in Theatre from the University of Minnesota and attended the Ringing Bros. Clown College. His stage and circus experience taught him skills for working with prosthetics and make up. He landed a job at Universal Studios as part of a Verne Langdon monster makeup show for tourists. This eventually led to work as a sculptor and fx artist working on multiple films including Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Dune, Ghostbusters, and many others. He was later hired by ILM where he worked for decades on numerous projects in both traditional and digital formats. Today he is retired and living in the Bay Area. Mark is a great storyteller. He’s had an amazing career spanning many disciplines that all inform his work in fascinating and unexpected ways.

Over a century ago - on the foggy Hudson, our Sailor Twain - a riverboat captain with his own problems is just doing his job, when he finds himself rescuing, and becoming enamored by an injured mermaid. Toss in a fornicating french nobleman, a no notoriously reclusive author, and a cast of weirdly wonderful window dressing characters - SAILOR TWAIN is an emotionally dark and mysterious story that's equal parts Poe, Hemingway and world mythology - illustrated in a moody charcoal finish. SAILOR TWAIN or "the Mermaid of the Hudson", by Mark Siegel, Founder of First Second press, one of my favorite semi-indie comics publishers. The book just has a haunting atmosphere that pulled me in and still haunts me to this day.

Mark Siegel, MD, is a Professor of Medicine and the Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Siegel graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined Yale as a Pulmonary & Critical Care fellow and has been a full time Yale faculty member since then. His major clinical focus is in the ICU and has participated in several multicenter clinical research trials investigating new treatments for sepsis and ARDS. He serves on the Editorial Boards of Critical Care Medicine, Chest, the Annals of the American Thoracic Society, and the American Journal of Medicine and is a recipient of several awards including Teacher of the Year at Yale University and the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award. Dr. Mark Siegel has simple, yet powerful advice for new physicians: Whatever we do, and wherever we end up, resolve to love it. Today, we learn what it means to fully recognize the gift we have as physicians. Taking care of patients during critical times of their lives is a massive responsibility--and a massive privilege as well. Dr. Siegel encourages us to recognize the honor of having patients put their faith and trust in us, knowing that their well-being depends on our care. As we go forward in our journey, keeping our patients at the center of our motivation is what will lead to more meaning and joy in our careers. Pearls of Wisdom: 1. Whatever you do, and whatever field you end up in, resolve to love what you do. 2. Appreciate the gift of being a physician: Remember it is a special privilege to be with patients during these critical times of their lives. 3. Look for mentors with generosity of spirit. And remember that the relationship is bi-directional. They are making a commitment to us, so we need to honor that and reciprocate. 4. Residence is tough, but self-care is not selfish. Prioritize wellness throughout your career. Get enough to eat, get enough sleep, and remember the basic tenets of personal health.

On Tuesday's Mark Levin Show, Americans must choose between liberty and tyranny. The Democrats do not embrace movements for the people, they are for the government. We the People must never accede to the terms of our economic and political surrender and servitude. Americans must never abandon their children and grandchildren to a dark and bleak future. Never accept a fate that is alien to the legacy we’ve inherited from America's ancestors. Never accept social engineering by politicians and bureaucrats who treat us like lab rats, rather than self-sufficient human beings. Those who choose tyranny will vote for Joe Biden and the Democrat Party. The rest of America choosing liberty will vote for Donald Trump. Then, Biden has been sucking at the government teat for 47 years. Trump gave up his life of luxury to serve in Washington, meanwhile, Biden gave up nothing to make a living on the taxpayer's dime. Later, The New York Times printed that the experts believe the pandemic will end sooner than expected and the President's efforts have been working with remarkable efficiency. Americans ought to be proud of what America has done. Trump has brought this country through the most dangerous pandemic in 100 years by embracing science, while critics were maligning him and trying to remove him from office. Trump didn't kill 200,000 Americans he saved millions because of his decisive action and Operation warp speed. Afterward, Dr. Mark Siegel, author of the new book COVID: The Politics of Fear and the Power of Science, joins the show to stress the dangers of lockdowns and how it undermines people's liberties. In fact, CDC data now indicates that 79% of COVID infections occurred in mask-wearers. Meg White is a Booking Agent at ICM Partners. Her journey at ICM began after an internship at Roadrunner Records, working with and cold calling College Radio Stations. At ICM she has worked as an assistant under three very different personalities, from which she has learned many amazing lessons. She has worked as an assistant first for Scott Morris, to Marsha Vlasic, and finally to Mark Siegel, before becoming an agent herself. She’s a rising star in the music industry, and is becoming more and more of an influential agent in the business. In this conversation, she shares some of her stories of her journey, advice for artists on creating their tour strategy, best practices of reaching out to promoters to book your own shows, and how to develop a relationship with booking agents. She’s known as the “Red Headed Assassin,” and she kills with kindness.    To learn more about ICM Partners, visit: http://www.icmtalent.com/ Keep in touch:chris.goyzueta@gmail.com www.makingitwithchrisg.com https://www.instagram.com/chrisgoyzueta/ https://www.facebook.com/makingitwithchrisg  Credits: Host: Chris G. 539 Premium: Our guest this week is Mark Siegel of Golf Asia, a golf travel agency that designs golf tours throughout Asia. This time we talk about the Nikanti Golf Club which is an hour outside of Bangkok, Thailand. Nikanti is the first course I'm aware of that has a layout of 18 holes that are designed as 3x6 vs 2x9. We often complain that golf takes too long, but wouldn't it be great if you could choose to play just 6, 12, or the full 18 holes?Their website says that "Nikanti Golf Club challenges the ordinary and sets a new standard in style and substance in golf in Thailand."Ever wonder how all that detailed yardage information finds their way to your GPS unit and mobile apps? I came across a guy who works for BestApproach.com while he was mapping out a course in my neighborhood. So I grabbed my phone and shot a short interview with him about exactly what he was doing. Enjoy!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkxGp3G8FnI

First aired 12/17/12Episode featured the new graphic novel, Sailor Twain or The Mermaid in the Hudson by Mark Siegel. Set on a steamboat on the Hudson River in 1887, this new book uses painstakingly detailed drawings to tell a suspenseful and heartbreaking story. Mark Siegel, the book's author and illustrator, joined Clare Sheridan for a lively discussion. Prior to publishing this NY Times Best Seller in book form, Mr. Siegel chose to serialize this story in installments, using the web -- a type of publishing that was popular in the 19th Century for authors such as Charles Dickens and Herman Melville. We learned from Mr. Siegel about his book, why and how he serialized it and much more. For more information about Sailor Twain or The Mermaid in the Hudson, visit sailortwain.com/"Crossroads of Rockland History" airs on the third Monday of each month at 10:10 am on WRCR radio 1300AM.Join us as we explore, celebrate and learn about our local history with different topics and guest speakers every month.www.RocklandHistory.org
