It's no Twilight, but we still need to talk about The Host (2013). No, not the Bong Joon Ho horror — we mean the Stephenie Meyer movie adaptation. That's right, it's time for another Fifth Tuesday, a.k.a. one of our non-spooky bonus episodes, and given that this film features a bonafide intergalactic invasion, we knew it would be the perfect way to close out Alien Month. After four weeks of figuring out all the various ways humanity might put a stop to attacks from outer space, it was time to ask the really important questions: What happens when the aliens win? Also, what if they're sort of sexy? With Saoirse Ronan doing her best bad Southern accent and Diane Kruger serving cunt in a ribbed white tank top, our latest installment of Spooky Tuesday does the work to tackle all the important topics: communism, supernatural love squares, and the true test of any romance.   Resources:https://stepheniemeyer.com/the-books/the-host/the-host-playlist/ https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/aug/07/stephenie-meyer-id-like-to-be-remembered-for-writing-the-host-but-itll-be-twilight

It is very exciting to us when we can step outside of the normal author interviews and bring you something different. Today we have actor Kristoffer Polaha and author Anna Gomez, talking about the book they wrote together, called "Moments Like This." Kristoffer Polaha is best-known for his long starring role in the critically acclaimed series Life Unexpected (The CW). Other TV series credits include Get Shorty with Ray Romano and Chris O'Dowd, the limited series Condor opposite William Hurt and Max Irons, The CW's Ringer (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Valentine, as well as North Shore (FOX). In addition to co-starring with Rainn Wilson in Backstrom (FOX), he had a multi-season role on the acclaimed series Mad Men (AMC) and Castle (ABC). Polaha is also well-known for starring in Hallmark Channel movies such as Dater's Handbook with Meghan Markle, and the Mystery 101 franchise on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. Polaha first received attention for his portrayal of John F. Kennedy, Jr. in the TV movie, America's Prince: The John F. Kennedy Jr. Story, opposite Portia de Rossi. He has appeared in numerous independent features, including Where Hope Grows, Devil's Knot (Colin Firth, Reese Witherspoon), and the Tim Tebow film, Run the Race. Polaha has a featured role opposite Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman 1984 and in Jurassic World: Dominion. In addition to his work as an actor, producer, and director, Polaha is branching into the book world by co-authoring a new series. He is also involved with several charitable organizations, including being an ambassador for World Vision, a board member for HerArtsInAction, and The Polaha Family Circus Foundation. Anna Gomez was born and raised in the city of Makati, Philippines before she met and married her best friend who whisked her away to Chicago over twenty years ago. Anna is a full time career woman who thought she could write a book about her life (The Light in the Wound, Christine Brae 2013) and then run away as far as possible from it. She never imagined that her words would touch the hearts of so many women with the same story to tell. Since then, Anna has released five more books under her pen name, Christine Brae. In December 2019, her agent convinced her to write one more book. Different model, different subject matter. Clean, contemporary, happy endings. Reluctantly, she decided to give it a try. This time, under her real name, Anna Gomez.

In this episode, Laura Wade talks about the poem that has been a friend to her – 'Ashes of Life' by Edna St. Vincent Millay. We are very grateful to Laura for allowing us to share this conversation with you. Laura visited The Poetry Exchange in London. She is in conversation with The Poetry Exchange team members, Michael Shaeffer and Fiona Bennett. Laura Wade is an Olivier award winning playwright and screenwriter. Her National Theatre play HOME, I'M DARLING premiered at Theatr Clwyd in 2018 before playing at the National, where it received rave reviews. HOME, I'M DARLING won the award for Best New Comedy at the 2019 Oliviers. Laura's screenplay THE RIOT CLUB, an adaptation of her acclaimed 2010 stage play POSH, opened in cinemas on September 2014. The film is directed by Lone Scherfig and stars Max Irons, Sam Claflin and Douglas Booth. Laura has also adapted Sarah Waters' TIPPING THE VELVET for the stage and in 2018, Laura adapted Jane Austen's unfinished novel THE WATSONS for the stage for Chichester Festival Theatre. You can find out more about Edna St. Vincent Millay and read more of her poetry at the Poetry Foundation: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poets/edna-st-vincent-millay Ashes of Life is read by Laura at the beginning of the conversation, with the gift reading of the poem by Fiona Bennett. ***** Ashes of Life By Edna St. Vincent Millay Love has gone and left me and the days are all alike; Eat I must, and sleep I will, — and would that night were here! But ah! — to lie awake and hear the slow hours strike! Would that it were day again! — with twilight near! Love has gone and left me and I don't know what to do; This or that or what you will is all the same to me; But all the things that I begin I leave before I'm through, — There's little use in anything as far as I can see. Love has gone and left me, — and the neighbors knock and borrow, And life goes on forever like the gnawing of a mouse, — And to-morrow and to-morrow and to-morrow and to-morrow There's this little street and this little house.

Pero la bestia, incumple el pacto, devorando a un ser humano. La víctima es la hermana mayor de Valerie, una hermosa joven que acaba de saber que sus padres van a casarla con Henry, el heredero de la familia más rica del pueblo.
