POPULARITY
I'm not going to lie - most of this episode is on Michael Bay's Ambulance. In part because there's a major disagreement between the two hosts, and in part because the Mamie Van Doren western Born Reckless is so damn boring.

Dad Movies is back after a brief hiatus with Michael Bay's low budget masterpiece Ambulance. This week we're joined by tattoo artist, Ambulance fan, and all-around joy Emily Effler. We talk Michael Bay movies, gore, and the joy of seeing filmmakers explore outside of their comfort zone. Give it a listen and review if you like it.
In this episode, Mike and Rich tackle a bit of a mixed bag which nevertheless contains at least one gem! We kick off with THE MODERN WAY, an anthem for the 80's when Mods and Rockers had resurrected thanks to the likes of Quadrophenia being a cult VHS hit... Next is WHEN DARKNESS FALLS,a brit horror written by one of our old colleagues, Tom Jolliffe! However our friendship won't stop us from giving the film an honest going over! MARTYRS LANE is the latest SHUDDER film to be released by Acorn films. I'm on record for saying that I'd gladly sling in any of their curated films without any fore-knowledge, given their success to date. Will I be eating my words? Finally there is GATLOPP: HELL OF A GAME. Dismiss this film at your peril. Check out our thoughts on it in the episode! Our Short Shot is the French horror/action/thriller, GABRIEL, in which a troubled boy becomes a cop only to find himself battling inner demons. Click the link to watch the whole film. Did you know that Michael Bay's Ambulance is actually a remake? This week's DTV Throwback is the Danish original, AMBULANCEN, in which two armed robbers are forced to steal an ambulance in order to escape their botched bank job! This can be currently found on Netflix! Follow the Short Shots TWITTER page, where we will be linking to a short film every day! Don't forget to also check out our main show, the DTV DIGEST on TWITTER and FACEBOOK!

Kevin and Chris discuss their many thoughts on the new Elvis biopic, Kenobi's finale nailing it for fans, Michael Bay's Ambulance not being bad, The Old Man delivering as it flies under the radar & much more...
Clint and Ken dive right into Whatchoo Watchin (featuring The Bob's Burgers Movie and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) in an episode packed to the brim with further Kenobi impressions (8:05) and reviews of Michael Bay's Ambulance (24:30), Phil Tippet's 30-years-in-the-making Mad God (33:35), comicbook movie meme fodder Morbius (49:25), and CineTron pick Come True (1:01:40)
Out this week on Blu-ray is Michael Bay's "Ambulance." It is almost the perfect distillation of what we consider to be a Michael Bay film -- it is one big action chase sequence. At the same time though, we are considered about the future of the car chase film... or are we?
Jenn and Rich watched Michael Bay's Ambulance this week. Longtime listeners will know of Rich's disdain for Michael Bay's movies, but how does this one hold up? Give a listen to see what we thought! Lorne was a guest on Film.Music.Media for the first time 11 years ago, and he was the very first All Access video interview over 7 years ago. We've had many great conversations over the past decade, so it's a true pleasure to have Lorne back for a new All Access. For this conversation we discuss what has changed in the entertainment industry over the past decade, and what it means for younger people starting their careers now versus back then. We also discuss how integral music editors are on films and television, and why Lorne wholly believes that every aspect of filmmaking is a team effort including scoring. We dive into Top Gun: Maverick and how Lorne worked with Harold Faltermeyer, Lady Gaga and Hans Zimmer on the music for the film. He shares how they had to adapt during the pandemic, and the key to making a team effort be cohesive to serve the story. Lorne also talks about how much of a fan he was of 90's action films especially those from producer Jerry Bruckheimer. We talk about our shared love for 90's action, and how Lorne is now working with people like Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer on different projects. We also talk about Lorne's scores to Bad Boys For Life, and how he made sure Mark Mancina's theme was front and center. Lorne also talks about working on Michael Bay's Ambulance. As always, it's a pleasure to have Mr. Balfe as a guest and this conversation is a fantastic insight and reflection on some of his current projects. A Film.Music.Media Interview | Produced & Presented by Kaya Savas

Tucker is joined by Tessa Strain and Geoff Lapid to talk about Michael Bay's Ambulance, which may not have performed as well as some hoped at the box office, but performed extremely well in Tucker's heart--and that's the only metric that matters! We're also blessed with some hot takes on cold violence, with the Los Angeles duo explaining why, in fact, Tucker was right to stay home from the Northman and replay Conan in his minds eye instead.

Cinema lives on... in an app called ScreenPix. If your definition of cinema is the same was ours: anything starring Eric Roberts. In the 1990 version of THE AMBULANCE (thank you to any of you who stumbled on a clickthrough after watching Michael Bay's AMBULANCE presumably on Peacock) Mr. Roberts works for Stan Lee when not investigating the disappearance of strange women he chases down the street. But don't misconstrue the intentions of The Best Roberts... he just wants to draw these lovely ladies and save them from a murder mobile commanded by a soap opera star. Classic Eric Roberts. And Waterworld - sink or swim?

Everyone is yelling, everything is exploding, and nothing makes any sense in Michael Bay's breakneck heist actioner, Ambulance. And that's exactly why it's delightful. It was a jam packed weekend for movies, with Dom watching not one, but two movies this weekend, both returning films from his favorite directors, Michael Bay's Ambulance and the Daniels' Everything Everywhere All at Once! Dom is joined by Luk Reviews to finish off their Bayhem video they did on Thursday to talk about Michael Bay's new film, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Eiza González and follows two adoptive siblings turned bank robbers who hijack an ambulance and take two first responders hostage. Then, Dom talks about the new film from the Daniels who directed Swiss Army Man back in 2016, who's new film follows a Chinese-American woman, being audited by the IRS, who discovers that she has the power to exist in parallel universes and must help prevent the destruction of them all. The film stars Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huay Quan, Stephanie Hsu, Jenny Slate, Jamie Lee Curtis & James Hong, and is an absolute joy to watch. This week on the BFG Week In Review podcast, editor Neal Pollack and film critic Stephen Garrett sound the alarm about Michael Bay's ‘Ambulance.' Actually, Stephen liked this big, dumb loud action flick pretty well and the segment includes the added bonus of hearing our contributors try to pronounce the word “ambulance” in Castilian Spanish.Sharyn Vane is back on the show to talk about “book challenges” and “soft censorship,” two terms that we wish we didn't have to put into quotes. Regardless, mid-list authors, particularly young-adult novelists, are facing all kinds of resistance from school districts and conservative political groups as they try to get their work out to their audience. BFG will cover this issue as long as it's going on, so probably forever.Meanwhile, Scott Gold and Neal spent plenty of time the last couple of weeks watching ‘Moon Knight'on Disney+ and reading old Moon Knight comics, and a supremely nerdy conversation about a pretty good superhero show results. Come for the praise of Ethan Hawke, stay for a mockery of Oscar Isaac's Cockney accent.Enjoy!

In the high-concept mould of Speed and Unstoppable, Michael Bay's Ambulance gives us an ambulance, hijacked by bank robbers, that isn't allowed to stop moving. It's a real throwback to the era of genuine stunts, cars flipping over on fire, helicopters flying under bridges, and charismatic villains - with much less charm than you'd like, insultingly mechanical use of archetypes to manipulate your feelings, and low expectations of its audience. We discuss how well or badly it balances its actors, tells its story, uses its milieu to offer a portrait of the society in which it's set, and more. Recorded on 27th March 2022.
