Jenna Ortega, known for her role in Wednesday, is set to star alongside six-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams in Taika Waititi's ambitious adaptation of the sci-fi novel Klara and the Sun. The novel, a New York Times bestseller written by Kazuo Ishiguro, follows the story of Klara, an artificial friend created to prevent teenagers from feeling lonely. Ortega, currently in high demand, had to drop out of Scream 7 due to scheduling conflicts. She is also starring in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice 2 and working on the second season of Netflix's Wednesday, the Addams Family spin-off. Meanwhile, Amy Adams will be seen in Marielle Heller's Nightbitch and Waititi, who recently released Next Goal Wins, has several upcoming projects, including Interior Chinatown, a new Star Wars, and a Time Bandits series. Klara and the Sun explores the theme of loneliness through the eyes of its narrator, an artificial friend. The story delves into the question of what it means to love, featuring a narrator who is optimistic and childlike. Ishiguro, the author, explained that the appeal of the novel lies in the protagonist, Klara, who brings a childlike freshness and openness to the story, remaining optimistic despite learning darker things about the human world.

What's this? You may be forgiven for thinking you were getting yet another episode of Tim and Valerie reminding you of how excruciatingly long you'll have to wait for more of your favorite fantasy show as they mask the despair of their existence with alcohol and bad takes. But if you're into torturing yourself like that, you really should call in an expert on the subject—someone like Wednesday Addams. So, for one week only, your favorite podcast is trading in their swords, potions and magic spells for knives, poisons and evil curses as they discuss the first season of Netflix's Wednesday. And since whiskey is kind of their Thing, they've brought along a special Halloween edition of Smoke Wagon Straight Bourbon. Don't worry. They'll try not to make it TOO painful…

This week (technically a month ago LOL) Hannah's wish was Lizzie's command and, as a result, we are talking about Netflix's Wednesday -- even though it's not at all relevant in the zeitgeist anymore. Digressions include the fixtures of Lizzie's new house, Barbie-branded lemonade, and far too much discussion about Vermont.P.S. Tune in as Arthur's buddy Kailey hangs out on 2CC for a deep dive into Wednesday, the 2022 Netflix series that centers around Wednesday Addams—yes, the very same Wednesday of the morbidly eccentric Addams Family. Plenty of topics are discussed here, including a debate over the Love Triangle trope, the show‘s deliciously ruthless critique of colonialism and whitewashing, a supernatural plot twist in Riverdale that causes Arthur's brain to momentarily glitch out, and the worrisome COVID protocol on the set of Wednesday. Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville), Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega, Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Georgie Farmer, Moosa Mostafa, Naomi J. Ogawa, Christina Ricci, Victor Dorobantu, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Iman Marson, Tommie Earl Jenkins, Fred Armisen, Isaac Ordonez, and George Burcea. Spoilers start at 37:50 Note: Kailey and I recorded this back in December, so it isn't up-to-date in regard to all the speculation over whether or not Season 2 of Wednesday would move over to Prime Video. In any case, this isn't happening, since Netflix has officially renewed the show for another season. A listener finds security in her therapist's office and wonders about the thought that goes into the decor of an office. Our second question (starting at the 16 minute mark) comes from someone longing for her therapist and is curious where this comes from and why she monitors his physical appearance and body language so closely. Finally (at minute 24), a mother plans to stop her kids from playing football but is concerned about the emotional and social fallout in her Texas community. Best of 2022 lists are everywhere. Here is another one! The first episode of the new year sees Shawn and Krista looking back over the year that was. 2022 is a year that won't soon be forgotten. From books and movies to television and events, 2022 was quite a year! Krista's year was quite eventful. She moved out on her own for the first time in 22 years. No roommates. No kids. Just Krista. And then she started a new job. This is apparently the best job she has ever had. Her boss is also the most awesome boss a girl could want. Other than being sick for nearly half the year, Krista had a fairly decent 2022. Shawn made some major moves in the past year. After talking about it for nearly two decades, he finally made the decision to move back to his home town. Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, he has lived in Timmins for nearly 20 years. The decision to move was a gigantic one, but it has been positive beyond expectations. Re-connecting with old friends, and building new friendships are all part of the journey. Shawn started dating a lovely girl he has known since high school. They have even moved in together. Quite an adventurous year! His son Bishop even likes this new girl. They get along so well! Also this year, we have discovered some really great media. The Umbrella Academy and The Last Kingdom did not come out in 2022, but that is when they were discovered. Krista fell in love with Netflix's Wednesday. Shawn read his first book by Terry Pratchett. He also found an amazing flea market type store with multiple vendors called the Vintage Co-op. Your Fright Fights team is back and slashing through the snow with some Christmas horror carnage. You better watch out, because Mike's pick, “The Children” (2008), braves the atrocities of family holidays, but the gang ultimately leaves it in the cold because there's no Christmas in sight. Tyler's pick shows promise with John Water's favorite killer Santa film, “Christmas Evil” (1980). But how will Saint Nick fare against Chris' pick, “Jack Frost” (1997)? The gang pulls out the slab, spreads Christmas fear, and fights for survival. But before the holiday showdown, your co-hosts catch up on some of their latest viewings that spawn its own battle with Halloween Ends (2022). As well as highlighting Hulu's “Hellraiser” (2022) reboot, Netflix's “Wednesday” (2022), Shudder's “Deadstream” (2022), and seeing if Damien Leone's “Terrifier 2” (2022) made Tyler terrified. Sharpen your candy canes, turn down the lights, and get ready to FRIGHT FIGHT!

In recent years, directors Rian Johnson and Kenneth Branagh have revived the murder mystery format in a huge way with their respective franchises beginning with Knives Out and Murder on the Orient Express, respectively. We have discussed how much we all love murder mysteries on the podcast, but WHY do we love them so much? What is it about these puzzle games of murder that drive audiences back for repeat viewings, long after they have already deduced who the culprit is? In honor of Netflix's Wednesday release of "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story", created by Emmy Award winner Ryan Murphy (creator of American Horror Story, one of Ash's all-time faves) and starring one of Ash and Michelle's biggest celeb crushes, Evan Peters, we've decided to re-release our two-parter on Dahmer! This is an oldie but goodie with Ash and former co-host Cam, so if you're a new listener or revisiting the story, enjoy! Also... this is part 2, if you're here without listening to part 1 first, why?? Trust us, the story is much better when you hear it from beginning to end!Today the gals finish talking about the infamous Milwaukee Cannibal, Jeffrey Dahmer!Ash covers Dahmer's second through seventeenth victims. After committing his first murder just three weeks after his high school graduation in 1978, Dahmer kept his murderous tendencies under wraps for the next nine years. He killed his second victim in a hotel room in a reported blackout in 1987 and continued to ramp things up from there. He initially murdered and dismembered victims in grandma's basement, but when young Dahmer got a place of his own, what started off as some casual necrophelia soon turned into cannibalism, and he eventually started going down the infamous human-zombie-sex-slave road. The gals also discuss how Dahmer was finally caught and how his own murder took place!-If you'd just like to support your gals and the show, you can head over to patreon.com/TSFU and join for as little as $5 a month! Jeepers Creepers! In the first part of this special two part episode Cam goes over Dahmer's childhood and adolescence, from his early obsession with dissecting animal and his realization that he was gay, to how he began drinking heavily at a young age and acting out in school as the class prankster. During his senior year, Dahmer is left to live alone for a short time, giving him the perfect opportunity to commit his first murder, just three weeks after high school graduation. Dahmer would spend the next nine years trying to keep his dark fantasies of murder and necrophelia at bay, earning a reputation around the gay bars and bathhouses for drugging and molesting men... and he did just that until he began his murderous reign in 1987.-If you'd just like to support your gals and the show, you can head over to patreon.com/TSFU and join for as little as $5 a month!
